I will play Sunshine first since I've never played it before

Probably Sunshine because it's the only one that wasn't previously accessible to me

I did recently play through Galaxy at the start of lockdown (thoroughly enjoyed it). Obviously had I know at the time this was getting released I'd have probably held off, I'm not in such a hurry to play it again so soon.

No doubt I'll get to it once I've finished with Sunshine & 64

I am pretty sure I won't touch the other two untill the moment I will get the 120 stars in 64...

In release date order obviously.

Sunshine is the one that intrigues me the most because it's the only one I have no actual experience playing myself (bar watching videos), so I'm definitely playing that first.

I’ll go with Super Mario 64 first and then go to Sunshine and finish with Galaxy.

Never really played Sunshine, so that will be my first, had the game on the cube but never really played it.

I'm playing Sunshine first because I haven't played it in years and I want to give it a fair chance again. When I played it I hated its guts. But it was mostly because I felt some things were just so irritating that it killed the fun. The controls felt a bit floaty and oh god the game over sound with that god forsaken horn.

Limited release game of games I have already played and own. I think i'll keep it in the cellophane.

Mario 64 and then Sunshine!

I'm going in reverse order, galaxy, sunshine and 64

I never owned a Wii and only bought Galaxy 2 for my Wii U, so Galaxy will probably be my first one. I owned Sunshine back in the day but traded it in unfinished. I just didn't like it, which was strange considering how much I loved 64. But I'm definitely willing to give Sunshine another shot.

The best is Galaxy of course, Sunshine is pretty good, 64 is....meh.

64 is okay in short bursts, I think it's pretty underwhelming unless you were there when it first released. There are games from that time that aged way better.

I played and finished Mario 64 earlier this year, and was almost ready to start sunshine, but was holding off incase the remake would come true and it did. So let's go sunshine!

I will play Galaxy 2 first. Oh no, wait, I forgot this was an half-assed collection.

I'll be going in order. Never really, truly played any of them. I dabbled a bit in 64 and Sunshine, but never to completion, not even close. And Galaxy I barely touched.

It's the only game in the collection that I've played, but it was such a long time ago and I have strong nostalgic feelings for it.

Sunshine. It's the first one I had out of the three, as we had no tv at home. It's also been the longest time since I last played it, and I hope they made the right improvements to make it as good as I remember without the sometimes very frustrating camera that I also remember...

Wanted to play mario galaxy all year long now but haven’t had acces to my wiiU for a few months and was playing on my ps4/ps3 when I finally got it back. 3D all stars is a good excuse to finally play it again.

I already own and completed all 3 of them in their original first print run, and for this collection I hoped to get Galaxy 2 in HD as well! That one's truly missing for me to be really sold.

If I snag a copy, I'll complete them chronologically. 120 Stars in Super Mario 64 shouldn't take more than a couple hours anyway.

I already have the Patreon version of Mario 64 on my Switch. And don't really like Sunshine.

Sunshine. I would play them in order normally but I've kind of played Mario 64 to death so am mostly buying it for Sunshine and Galaxy.

@Gerald @Zeldafan79 Galaxy 1 and 2 should really be seen as one massive game anyway, in my opinion. It would also raise the value of this collection to a 10 out of 10 for the retail (not scalper) price.

Sunshine first and then Galaxy. No real interest in 64 since I beat the N64 version and the far superior DS version 100% already. Never played Sunshine or Galaxy even though I had a Gamecube & Wii during their eras. I don't know exactly why but for whatever reason during those days I skipped them.

Amazing to see how many people will be starting with Sunshine.

@Shambo That's exactly how I thought it would happen. I was predicting Galaxy 1 & 2 would be a stand alone release called something like "Super Mario Galaxies" as one big game. Maybe throw in a new level or something to properly bridge the games after Galaxy 1's completion.

For me Mario 64 is the greatest video game of all time and I cannot wait to replay it in upscaled glory.

Did restart the original on N64 last year but stopped because I had a feeling a switch release was on the cards

In order, for sure. Haven't decided how far I'll go through Super Mario 64. I'll probably dabble in it and then play Sunshine in HD, because THAT'S the big draw for me.

64 for sure, it won't take me too long as I've re-completed it loads of times over the years. Then onto Sunshine which I abandoned in disappointment years ago, hopefully this time I'll be able to get over the more limited moveset.

I'm going in order. Kind of dreading the clue coins in Sunshine, though. I want to 100% every game, which is easy outside of Sunshine. Those blue coins are major pain with no way to track them, they're the reason why I've only 100%'d that game once.

Sunshine. Even though I own it for Gamecube, I never completed it. I honestly don't remember much of the game. I love Galaxy, but I beat that fairly recently, and I just don't think 64 holds up well.

If they haven't changed Sunshine to allow choice of inverted/normal axis movement then I won't even be opening mine. I have all the originals and have only really bought this as a collector's piece.

Sunshine for me had it on the GameCube but never got round to finishing it don’t wanna play galaxy first as I consider it to be the best on this collection so gonna leave it until last

Mario N64 was/is my favourite game so I'm saving it to play nearer Christmas. Not sure why it has that association thought.

What?! 64?! It's not even the 2nd best on that list, why are people looking forward to play the same exact game that Nintendo has re-released at least four times on previous consoles, when they could play something that's only had one release and is no doubt the better game anyway.

64 first. One of my favorite games ever. Great level design with a truly magical feel. Remember playing this for the first time. I nearly exploded.

Sunshine for me, as that's the one that's gone longest without being played. Can't wait, loved it when it came out. Still got Galaxy and 64 which I can play on my Wii U, but not had a GameCube for about 14-15 years. Been missing this and Double Dash a lot.

Mario 64 of course, with the new generation coming its reminded me that this was probably the last next gen game that genuinely was revolutionary compared with what we already had. I remember watching it on Gamesmaster on channel 4 and no other game mattered until I could play it, an amazing game

@JMR_Alden I don't understand all this modern day hate for Sunshine, the game is great and was well loved back then. Its arguably the weakest of the 3d Mario's but that is a stellar list and is still better then pretty much every none Mario 3d platformer

Sunshine is also the game which confirmed the shenanigans that Peach and Bowser get up to when she's "kidnapped"

Galaxy. I'm right in the middle of my Mario marathon, and I've already done 64 and Sunshine for it. I'm coming right up on Galaxy so it's good timing for me to play it on here instead of on Wii. Just gotta finish Partners in Time, NSMB, and Super Paper Mario first.

@Marios-love-child I also replayed Galaxy recently like back in June or so before I had decided to actually do a marathon of all the Mario platformers and RPGs. Gotta do it again now, but I'm glad I can do it on Switch and in HD this time around.

I took a break from gaming from 1999 to 2015, so I need to catch up with Sunshine and Galaxy in that order, with good old Mario 64 breaks in between

@carlos82 From memory, the opposite is true. Sunshine wasn't really appreciated when it came out (I mean, it was the first 3D Mario since 64). Now the tides have turned and people seem to have a lot of respect for it in retrospect.

I’ve only played Galaxy for a short time, and it was my sister’s copy. But I’ll go with Sunshine first. Out of the 3 games that game really stood out for me. And I just cannot wait to see it in full widescreen glory on my 60”.

Except for having played them very recently, it's hard for me to imagine playing in any other order than release order.

It's too fun to feel the improvements and changes over time in the series, and it gives you a more accurate sense of why the games were received by gamers the way they were at the time. However, that's very hard to really get. Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time (and even Metroid Prime) were so influential to generations of games afterward, that their contributions are hard to feel like when they were first played.

Probably the best way is to play other 3D games from before them. Tank control was the go-to method for third person 3D games. Just how giant and open Ocarina of Time felt is really hard to simulate now with open world games being so prevalent.

Galaxy is one of my favourite games of all time, so I’m looking forward to playing through it again to show the kids.

In all seriousness, the theme of Super Mario Bros. is a bit insane. I can see it not grabbing some people. But it's fun. For most of the games it has remained true to the playful joy of gaming.

For me, that's why it endures... though it was the inventive action plus secrets plus flexible jumping and movement that pulled me in as much as the super weird environment and adventurous feeling in the original Super Mario Bros. from waaaay back when it was first hitting arcades. Saved up and bought the NES for that game alone (because it looked exactly like it did in the arcade!)

Release order. I may or may not beat Mario 64. It hasn't been that long since the last time I did. Sunshine is the only game out of the three that I haven't beaten. The other two I've completed. I played Sunshine until I got to the last stage, tried it once or twice and never touched the game again. Not sure why I dropped it there.

Play in order but won’t go for 100% as I have done them all countless time. I’ll just enjoy the resolution and speed run my way through.

Sunshine. I didn’t care for it back in the day. Never finished it. At some point in the game, the high wire balancing acts and the camera effectively killed my joy. The only Mario game I haven’t finished.

@CasNicks I forgot about the controls. It’s part of what made the high wire platforming so frustrating! Having to start aaaaallllllll the way back at the bottom was so frustrating! I remember being particularly annoyed with the theme park section, too.

I did not have a Wii so I didn't get to play Galaxy. I did not have a Nintendo 64, but I played the DS version. Loved it. After Sunshine I will go for Galaxy. Mario 64 is last on my list.

I’ll play them in order of their release because I’ve never played very far into any of them. I got to Bob-omb Battlefield in 64, never heard played Sunshine and got stuck early into Galaxy.

SM64, because I am super excited to share it with my five year old daughter. The other games are still a little too hard for her. 64 is also probably the single greatest feat in gaming history, which deserves to go first.

For myself, I'm excited to finally play Galaxy. I never got it on Wii back in the day, and I've always regretted missing out.

I'm also interested to revisit Sunshine. I never finished it because I lost interest halfway through. I've always wondered if that was frustration at not getting more SM64, or if the game was truly just not that exciting. I will finally get to find out!

Starting with 64 since it came out first. I did beat it last year but I can never get enough. I've been seeing mixed responses about Sunshine so it'll be nice to see for myself. Also looking forward to playing Galaxy again since I've only played it once and never finished it completely before selling it.

Nope, I'm right there with you! I highly doubt it'll happen but it would be amazing if Galaxy 2 was unlocked after beating Galaxy. I'm kinda hoping that Luigi is secretly playable in Mario 64 after the recent gigaleak proved that he was supposed to be in the game. I won't be disappointed if there's nothing, though, as this is Nintendo.

I'm playing Galaxy first, then I'm doing all 120 Mario 64 stars in a day with some mates on a weekend trip (covid dependent...) and then I'm saving Sunshine for Christmas as it's the one I've not played for the longest period and most looking forward to (despite its faults!)

I only played 64 DS before, at the beginning of this year; so 64 will be last. I'm most excited to play Galaxy as I've always wanted to do so but never got around to buying a Nintendo console before Switch. (PS. That's why I desperately need a Galaxy 2 port as well) Then I'll jump to Sunshine to see what the all the fuss is about

Sunshine, I need to know if they fixed the camera controls, where moving the camera left and right should function like it does in later games, it was reversed in the original with no option to change it. That made the game unplayable for me.

I’ll probably play sunshine first because I never played it. I have considered going chronologically as well though, but I think if I do that I will likely need a break from Mario after 64 and I do really want to try out Sunshine.

I rented 64 a couple of times as a kid in the 90s, but didn’t really “get” 3D platforming until after that. I did play the DS version a couple years ago and enjoyed it aside from the controls. Didn’t complete it because the controls got too annoying as the difficulty increased. So I am excited to try 64 with proper controls.

Oh and I played Galaxy 2 recently and loved it, but that means I can wait a bit on playing Galaxy.

While I've never played sunshine except for the first few levels I will do 64 first. It's my fav Mario besides galaxy and I haven't played in a while. I remember the F.L.U.D.D. controls being whacky and don't want to jump into that mess too quick.

Super Mario 64, I only get 3D All-Stars because of Mario 64. I had Sunshine on GameCube back then. Has never been a game that really convinced me. Look and feel, this holiday island setting, just terrible.
I loved Galaxy, but since I only have a Switch Lite I won't play it. At least not if the touchscreen is the only alternative to pointer control of the Wii. And that's what it looks like. An external controller / joycon on the Switch Lite is not a viable solution.

64, Sunshine, Galaxy because Galaxy is the only Mario game I've ever finished, so I'll leave it til last. I'm really only buying it for Sunshine because it was always my favourite and the best until Galaxy. 64 I've never cared for but I'll give it another go.

My biggest issue with Sunshine, over the other 2, is that Sunshine doesn't have a good way to track what shines you've already gotten. (Though I haven't played in at least 15 years so I could be wrong)

I'll probably play Sunshine first, simply because the controls on GameCube aren't the greatest and from what I've been reading/hearing they're greatly improved on the Switch. Then I'll play Mario 64, then Galaxy.

I bought the digital game, and it's already downloading, I thought it was until next friday, not complaning hehe. Anyone else has it?

I also hope that they are available separately in the not to distant future, since Sunshine is the only one that I am interested in. Still have Galaxy on Wii. Enjoyed 64 back in the day, but too many other games to play.

I would say two options, but these polls only show one vote only. Oh well, my second vote would've been Super Mario Galaxy after Super Mario Sunshine.

Obviously everyone won't do this, but many will play them in order. 64, Sunshine, then Galaxy. I'll probably do the same. I haven't played any of them in about 13 years. Last time I played any were within a year of their original releases, except 64 which I played again when the DS version released.

@JeanPaul It's just pre-loading. Every game on the eShop that sells a pre-order also offers pre-loading, so it's downloaded and ready to go as soon as the game is live.

I’ll play Galaxy first as a I think it is the greatest 3D Mario. Mario 64 I’ve played through maybe 3-5 times. Sunshine I tried to go back and play in the Wii era with backwards compatibility and just couldn’t stand it. I’d start with sunshine, but if I hate it again I might not get my Galaxy fix.

Someone suggested galaxy2 as an unlockable. That would be so awesome, I’d play through sunshine for that lol

@zool What's the principal, exactly? Games shouldn't have limited stock for physical copies? Because all games do and not all pre-orders are honored. They shouldn't have sold you the pre-order at that store if they didn't know how much stock they have. That's not Nintendo's fault.

@Skeletor1979 I don't really understand why people think touch controls will be bad. It will definitely be better than using a ***** Wii Remote or waggling a joycon. If anything, it'll trivialize the galaxies where you have to rubber band around with the pull stars.

Probably Galaxy since that's my favorite of the 3, but I also love SM 64, so I don't really know. Will decide when I actually have the game.

I have never played these games so I don't know which one I would play not a big fan of 3d Mario, Mario odyssey was good for the small amount of time I enjoyed it. My favorite Mario is super Mario bros 3. But I would probably play 64.

Sunshine feels like the game to play right now.

I will go 64 first and try to get 120 stars but I reckon my real number will be under 100. Than sunshine and than galaxy. Also in galaxy can you only get green stars if you have all stars or are green stars doable upon completion or before?. If the answer is you have to get all the stars first than i won't be getting any greens bah.

I’m just really sad they didn’t give Mario 64 widescreen.

I like the idea of playing them in order and seeing how the series grew.

I'm probably going to play them in order of release date.

Man, to think we have a console that you can play not only the 3D Mario Trilogy, but also the Crash Trilogy, Spyro Trilogy, Doom and Witcher 3 and portable to boot.

I just recently replayed 64, and I was quite frustrated with it, so I'll probably do Sunshine first.

Going with Sunshine first. Only one I haven't played.

@Excalibur_120 I'd have loved a reality where the weather forecast was just "wearing overalls in space" so you went with the third game.

Sunshine. Ive played through Galaxy 3 times already and 64 3 times (including the DS games and VC). Relative to Sunshine, played those quite recently as well. May even have visited the odd world or level now and again for laughs on top of that!

Sunshine played only once way back in the GC era. I also struggled with it the most out of the 3D Mario games!

Galaxy is my fav out of those though. Galaxy 2 my all time fav.

Galaxy. The sweeping score, the lush visuals, the endearing story, the boss battles... I just love this game to (Star?) bits and bobs.

I own them all and only play Mario 64 and its hacks. The other two have too much dialogue and story for a Mario game

Since I think ill skip this collection since I already own them and it doesnt seem like it adds much for me to double dip. Im currently playing them in order through other means.
I was gonna play Mario 64 DS with a analog control mod but the game physics is apparently drastically different from the original that i cant enjoy myself even with 360 analog controls.

So im playing 64 pc port with 60fps, high resolution, analog camera, widescreen, hd textures, faithful box art renders inspired 3d models, playable Luigi and Wario, and Odyssey physics because why not (without cappy). Playing sunshine again but with the Mario Sunshine mod called Sunburn that adds tons of improvements thats too long to list, included a hd texture pack with high resolution, 60fps, and widescreen. Then ill finally play Galaxy 1&2 with high resolution, hd textures, and gyro for cursor aiming.

@Deltath I just don't want to smear my screen with fingerprints. I hate that, so I avoid all games with touchscreen support. Even on the 3DS, I only used the stylus, never my fingers.

oooh, decisions decisions. Only just occurred to me I never actually played SM64 as I always watched my brother playing it.
Galaxy came out during my brief spell of not playing games. I have fond memories of SunShine though, so probably that one.

None, completeld them all before, if they had changed or added anything (given me any reason to play them again) I would have done.
This is an utterly lack luster package and an embarrassment for an anniversary release in 2020. Take a look at the Halo Master Chief collection for how things like this should be done.
They even had extra content from mario 64 DS not used.
64 should be wide-screen 1080p at a minimum but would be ideal to have a subtle remaster to it similar in the style of Ocarina of time 3D.
Add a two player mode to 64, it's been done before, it's great.
Sunshine and galaxy are fine visually but they should have added online leader boards and challenges, time trials etc. This is 3 lazy ports of old games for £50! These games are already all playable on Wii as well. Come on Nintendo. Very very poor.

Gotta be honest, I'm kind of bored of '64 at this point. If it were a proper remaster I'd be more into it, but this sounds exactly the same as the WiiU VC version. The other two are much more exciting.

@Balta666 Expect at least 150 stars. Super Mario 64 DS added quite a bit of content and would hope all of that is included at least.

Seems I’m with the majority here as I’ll be playing them in chronological order. I didn’t own an N64 long enough to play thru SM64, and never picked up Sunshine or Galaxy (though I loved Galaxy 2), so I’m really looking forward to this compilation!

I'm playing 64, Galaxy then Sunshine.

When I first played Galaxy Mario felt very slow moving because in Sunshine he's very quick and agile, this made me dislike Galaxy to start with but I really enjoy it now. This is why I'm leaving Sunshine until last.

@Skeletor1979 I'm actually rather fastidious when it comes to a smudge free screen, so I understand that, though I do it anyway when the game calls for it. FYI, they sell Switch styluses. I got one with Mario Maker 2.

@Balta666 Yup. DS version also had you playing as Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi with a ton of mini games you could unlock too. I'll be very disappointed if we don't get these upgrades at least. It was a far superior version of the game.

Probably Super Mario 64 first, as it's the one game from the collection I haven't played yet.

The nostalgia business is in full swing. Tbh, I understand the appeal of those 3 classics, but I am completely surprised to witness so many people willing to throw money away on old games. I bet the Switch 2 or next console will have a collection with Galaxy 2 and people will double dip. I am just stunned by how easy it is for Nintendo to make money on very very old products.

@Cinaclov I feel the same. I played through SM64 so many times since its release. Pretty bored of the DS version too. Im buying this mostly for Sunshine since Ive had a desire to play it again for the longest time. The last time I played it had to be over a decade ago.

I voted Sunshine to give it some love, but had no idea it was gonna be so popular XD When I found out about those rumors wayyy back in march, I did a celebration and played all mainline Marios throughout the year, including all 3 of these games in their original form

I'm gonna at least start them all in order from 64 to Sunshine to Galaxy. But after that Ill just be playing them however I want until I fully complete them in order. Sunshine's blue coins are still gonna be a bitch

Super Mario 64 has aged terrible - I won’t be touching it. Sunshine at some point, but SMG is my definitely favorite - I have nostalgic memories of it being my first Wii game when I first acquired a Wii in 2007 (they were hard to find at the time). Remember waking up on those cold November and December mornings in 2007 to play it. Can’t wait.

64 I never got into for some reason... Sunshine was just OK... But then Galaxy came out and I couldn't believe how good it was. I'll probably refresh with 64 since I really never played it all the way through, which is crazy.

Sunshine! Other two games I finished. Never finished Sunshine. Even borrowed my own gamecube back from my son (who is 18 now and does not live me me anymore) with Sunshine. But old gfx withheld me from playing the game.
Now: a second chance: old game, new gfx!!! Looking forward to it..

Makes sense to start at the start, but it's been the longest since I've played Sunshine, so I miss it more. Going back to Delfino!

I'm playing Mario 64 first. And then I'll play Sunshine and then Galaxy (so chronological order). And I'm planning on 100%ing each in this order.

Never owned a GameCube, so I will start with sunshine. However, I would have preferred a proper remake of one of the three game instead of that port collection.

Have to start with Mario 64. The world's introduction to 3D Mario games. Interested in playing Sunshine as well though, as I never owned a Game Cube. I seem to skip every second generation of Nintendo home consoles. I had the NES (when it was originally released in the 1980s), followed by the N64 and then the Wii.. and now a Switch, of course.

Mario 64 holds the most memories of the three for me though. When it first arrived, it was like nothing I had ever seen (or played) before.. I had only ever played the original Super Mario Bros. (1 / 2 / 3) on my NES, so Super Mario 64 seemed like a whole new world..

I haven’t played any of these games because (little thing known about me) i was kinda raised as a sony kid, I mostly played PlayStation games growing up so I never got to play these games, it was only till early 2010s when I developed a love for Nintendo games. overall I’m excited for all of these but i’ll play them in their release order

I remember playing Super Mario Galaxy when I was 5 or 6, so I chose Galaxy, even though I never played Sunshine.

I plan to play SMG1 first because it is a interesting game and the SOUNDTRACK...beautiful yet vast.

64. First played it at a Sears store on a display kiosk in 1996, and that sold me on Nintendo 64!

Just beat Mario 64 for the first time in my life in anticipation for this game. Curious to see how the controls from N64 match up to the Switch handling. Also still waiting on Galaxy button control footage. Hoping it controls really well, though I'm sure it does because its Nintendo and Mario, they wouldn't mess that up
