Of the ones I've played on that list, my list would be pretty much flipped except in the case of Code of Princess and Mutant Mudds, so...
1. Mutant Mudds
2. Code of Princess
3. Super Street Fighter IV 3D
4. Liberation Maiden
5. Resident Evil Revelations
6. Mighty Switch Force!
I agree with @RR529 that Dead or Alive Dimensions is better than Street Fighter. Overall though, it does look like there are some third party games I could get into on the 3DS. I have VVVVVV, but have yet to play it.
8 levels per dollar? That's a steal considering the experience being offered. I'm looking forward to the 20 new Ghost Levels, and how the flow of the game turns out now that there are checkpoints.
The 3D Super Mario game will set the tone of Nintendo experiences on the system, and I hope it's as memorable as Galaxy while returning to the wider exploration experiences of Super Mario 64/DS. That said, I may be looking forward to The Wonderful 101 more, as it has a greater chance to wow since it's new and carries little expectation.
Super Mario 3D Land is the first 3DS title that made me really think the 3DS had a chance to compete against the Nintendo DS's library, which is brilliant. It's not my favorite though, that would be Mutant Mudds, the only 3DS exclusive to really stick with me game-wise. 60 levels of pure charm, pick up and play action and engaging difficulty, Mudds is the only 3DS game I've put more than 50 hours into. I'm not entirely sure where my list would go after that, because I've not been returning to these games much. New Super Mario Brothers 2 and Mario Kart 7 are, right now, the most likely for my #2 and #3 spots respectively.
I'd rather have a new Metroid than anything else. Had this been a discussion for last year's E3, I would've included Raven Blade, but it's come to the point where I really want the next Metroid experience.
So because it lacks 60 frames per second, it's not the definitive version in spite of getting rid of the questionable waggle controls, adding new levels and being more accessible to a wider range of players? I'm definitely going to get this version even though I do have the Wii version, as this, to me, is clearly the definitive of the two.
With the news of checkpoints and spruced up visuals, I may consider getting this edition of the game as well. Still want to finish the Granny levels though, I got around 17-16 more to go.
Wii U's not next gen material, no major title announced to support it. Wii U is next gen material, no major game announced to support it. Nintendo just can't win with most of these third party developers.
Considering how much expansion they've given the series through their Prime games, I would like to see where they would go to next with the Metroid Series. If not that, I want to see how they handle a new IP of their own instead of having their creativity regulated towards already established franchises.
I'm definitely getting this next month as I've been convinced that this will be superior to the Wii version of the game thanks to the absence of the shake controls. An easy mode makes the deal even sweeter, though I didn't really have much of a problem with the original difficulty that wasn't a result of control frustration.
I definitely don't consider the gamepad a revolution nor do I consider it an evolution. It has yet to improve two screen gaming, DS will likely always remain the king, and it has yet to really deliver anything better than the Wii in terms of motion gaming. It's more so a product of revolution than a revolution itself, as it really hasn't taken off and is failing to capture the same magic as the DS and Wii.
Nintendo is cursed with their own success. With the DS, 3DS and Wii U all focusing on the dual screen concept, I feel like Nintendo is being less original in their direction unlike the previous generation where we had a focus on touch/two screen gaming (DS) and motion gaming (Wii). Combining the best of both worlds isn't a pro here, as this is already represented by a fan owning a DS and Wii. The Wii U desperately needs core first party software.
Is Shovel Knight releasing publicly or is it just for those who have donated to the project? I'm a little surprised that the new 3D Mario isn't on this list, and will be even more surprised if it actually doesn't release this year. TBDs need to get their dates.
@rayword45 Nano Assualt EX was never a game on my radar, so I didn't consider it, but you're right it does look better. Has the new Jett Rocket been seen in action? This does look better than both Pushmo and Dillon to me, and while it does look like a DS game, "looking like a DS game" makes it one of the better looking eShop titles. So sure, it's not the best looking, it's one of the best looking.
As an eShop game, this is the best looking game in terms of graphical output. Not sure where people are getting the idea that this looks ugly or unimpressive. I guess it's just a dislike for the developer.
@Waann
Those people would be wrong. If NST was solely focused on the multiplayer for Metroid Prime Hunters, they would have just settled with a generic Chozo world with Metroids and a Space Pirate invasion for the single player. Instead, they bothered to create a new race for the series, coupled with their own (former) territories, and a plot that didn't use Metroids, Chozo and Space Pirates as crutches. What's sad is that the lazy route would have gotten the game, and them, more praise.
@3Dash There's no way I'll be turning off the dialogue since it's the only means of acquiring the story for the game, which is the aspect that will have me try new chapters in the future. If Uprising was more geared towards environmentally storytelling, I would consider it, but no story at all would be worse than the dialogue clashing with the rest of the game and my control issues. I have tried that option of no dialogue and the game wasn't right.
@3Dash I know how to stop the sliding in-game with a tap of the screen. If I didn't know that I would be much harsher towards Uprising. Regardless of having an input to stop sliding, I feel the sliding should not have existed at all. A game with similar controls to Uprising is Metroid Prime Hunters, but with a major difference, no sliding. The difference between them is a game I have yet to complete and a game I've come to appreciate for over 125+ completions.
I will say that I have really enjoyed the first chapter, mostly due to its length. Right now, to reach the end of the game I would have to force myself through 20 min. chapters. They lost sight of replayability when they decided to lengthen chapters and cram as much dialogue as possible into them.
I've been to the options in KI:U, and the option to get rid of sliding entirely isn't an option rather how quickly that sliding effect while turning ends. For me, Kid Icarus Uprising was a mess outside of its controls, as it came off as a competition between character dialogue, music and action. I believe the last chapter I did was the one where I save Palentuna from the Chaos Kin. I have yet to feel any sense of immersion in the game, and have not beat it obviously.
New Super Mario Brothers is one of my favorite games of all time, and I appreciate that it is really easy, as I love the experience of blazing through that game. I feel to this day it is the best of the New series, as its so easy to learn and perfect levels to create amazing runs. Story-wise, I found it to be really cool too, what with Bowser being an undead king from the end of the first castle to his chamber in his castle.
Originally, I had Metroid Other M as my number 2 Metroid game after really getting into it, but as of today it has dropped though still in my Top 5. I feel that its story is a dedication to fans that have stuck with the entire franchise, not just the games but also material that has been released associated with the games. The Metroid manga being a major piece. The fan service of content made 30+ playthroughs easy.
This has been my most anticipated game to get post-The Last Story, but I sorta gave up on it when I experienced Nintendo Land. It's my most anticipated game for 2013 now that its release has finally been confirmed. Can't wait to preorder this and eventually experience the game. Hopefully, I'll have The Last Story done beforehand.
The game does look cleaned up from the original, but I'm unsure about getting this game since I have the original. That said, ATV Wild Ride is a great racing experience.
@rayword45 I don't believe the controls are as a tight as they could be. The fact that it uses a flick mechanic to turn is ridiculous.
@3Dash I think you misunderstood me. I can play KI:U easily. What I'm saying is that the controls aren't smooth. Lock-on should not be saving this game everytime I decide to turn, which creates a slip slide effect to an extent no matter what option I would go with. My experiences with the controls aren't the only reason why I feel it shouldn't be discussed as overall GOTY with Xenoblade though, so if somehow control complaints aren't valid, there are more reasons why I've been disappointed with Uprising.
@3Dash If KI:U had smooth controls for its land segments and multiplayer, something it should have gotten first, I would likely understand where you and others are coming from. It doesn't have smooth controls though, and so I definitely cannot put it into the same GOTY discussion as Xenoblade Chronicles.
@Prof_Clayton
Only Xenoblade deserves GOTY status. Kid Icarus Uprising shouldn't even be discussed with it, unless you're simply stating it as the handheld GOTY.
@MrWalkieTalkie I just said 2 because it has been at 1 file for this long. 3 is a much better option though for sure. I just want to replay a Pokemon game without feeling like I have to erase my data to do so. I don't see myself ever erasing my progress in a Pokemon game, so another file would be nice.
@raymond45 I think I stopped at Chapter 20. I know I've completed Chapter 18. I also realize the slip slide is manageable; however, it's not manageable enough to me to make for a smooth experience.
@raymond45
I personally love Metroid Prime Hunters, and believe Uprising is a bit overrrated. The controls aren't the same. Hunters provides far more accuracy in comparison, where as Uprising's flick turning creates a slip slide experience that thankfully has a lock-on in place to prevent it from ruining the ground segments entirely. I will say this, Uprising is amazing in the air, but that's arguably a third of the game (considering multiplayer is all on land). I think they're being generous giving the game a 3rd rank.
As for New Super Mario Brothers 2, I feel it's a lot less original than Uprising. Being more original doesn't matter much to me if the experience has controls dampening it, and NSMB2 doesn't have that issue. While I would argue that KI:U's air segments are as, if not more, engaging than the initial levels in NSMB2, the ground segments drag down that game. Rather than being engaged, I'm questioning whether I should keep continuing. I still have yet to complete Uprising and have owned it since March.
I have yet to play Paper Mario Sticker Star, but from what I've seen on youtube and of my little brother playing, it seems to be a number 1 game.
I completely agree on the Wii selection. Xenoblade Chronicles, of games released in 2012, is my GOTY.
Nintendo Land should have topped New Super Mario Brothers U. I doubt that game could even top Metroid Blast from Nintendo Land. I have yet to play NSMBU though, so I can't jump it too quick.
"Many levels require absolute accuracy and total concentration, forcing you to time each jump to perfection, memorise patterns and display lightning-fast reflexes."
While I love the Nerve-Wrack Pack in NSMB2, I could not find myself getting very into an experience that is like that all the time. Same could be said about the Crown level in Super Mario 3D Land. High difficulty levels in the recent Mario games have been very enjoyable as they break away from the easy standard present in most of the game. Making high difficulty the standard zaps the appeal right out of it, and it ends up failing to stand out.
The game that WayForward has done that gives me similar vibes to Metroid isn't mentioned. Aliens Infestation, for me, supplied what I would have wanted, in combat and atmosphere, from a Metroid sidescroller on the Nintendo DS. I would trust them to do a new Metroid, as long as it is a sidescroller with no impact on the series' timeline and with no confirmed canon placement. Metroid would be better off not limiting itself to the timeline, and I think WayForward's best opportunity would be on the Wii U shop.
I rank both Dementium and Dementium II very highly, possibly Top 10 for both. The major aspect going for both games are their atmospheric levels, which really are nothing short of incredible. The atmosphere is built up by nearly every design choice, from the first person perspective down to rooms in complete disorder. Both games are amazing, and certainly are outstanding titles for getting into Halloween. I'd probably give Dementium a 9 and Dementium II a 9.5 or 10.
I'm curious about the new wave of NSMB2 DLC packs coming within the next week for the end of October...unless they've been delayed this would be the ND to cover the packs.
If not number 1, Xenoblade should have been seventh on that list. I COULD see how the game would fall to 6) Metroid Prime Trilogy, 5) Skyward Sword, 4) Mario Kart Wii, 3) Twilight Princess and the Galaxies (1's better than 2). Actually 13 would've been okay, as Xenoblade below Wii Sports is just troubling. I guess Wii Sports is getting the nostalgic treatment though where it gets an edge over a higher quality game.
I can't go to 20, so here's my top 10:
1. Xenoblade Chronicles
2. Super Mario Galaxy
3. Metroid Other M
4. Donkey Kong Country Returns
5. Mario Kart Wii
6. Metroid Prime 3 Corruption (Retro didn't create the "trilogy that started it all" that's Metroids 1-3 including Super Metroid which bests the entire Prime Trilogy)
7. Super Smash Brothers Brawl
8. Kirby's Epic Yarn
9. Wii Sports
10. New Super Mario Brothers Wii
I have not played either Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess to completion, and so they're not rated. Same can be said about The Last Story.
Searched Denpa Men to find the demo, and after playing it, what an awesome game we're set to be getting next week. I really like what I've played so far, and can see myself investing a lot of time into the full version coming next week.
I understood the reason why Black & White 2 would be coming to the DS from the beginning. Releasing a game onto a system that has the bigger userbase means more potential success for the title. Game Freak deserves that success, and it gives Pokemon fans a release to be happy with while they work out a 3DS Pokemon experience which will likely have the longest development time for any Pokemon title to date.
I'm not okay with this. Having games at $60 means less of a library, as I get more picky the more expensive games are, which comes back to haunt the initial investment for the system. In the case of the Wii U, it will be the most expensive investment to start with. These games better be stacked. The Wii has taken until this year to really convince me that its $50 a pop is appropriate beyond three games.
I should pre-order this off of Amazon. I want to know if the game will fill in the roles of other players though with bots as Kid Icarus Uprising does? That will make or break this aspect of the game for me.
I enjoy seeing the older fans minimize the opinion of Sunshine being one's favorite by claiming nostalgia. I guess Sunshine is the younger fans' analogue to the older fans' Super Mario World or Super Mario Brothers 3.
Super Mario Sunshine is always in the argument for my favorite 3D Mario title, though so are the others with the exception of Galaxy 2. IT IS the 3D Mario game with the highest level of atmosphere, personality and originality. Outside of the Super Mario 64 installments, Sunshine is also the only really exploration friendly 3D Mario game and certainly is the most immersive perhaps of the whole franchise. Turbo FLUDD is easily my favorite 3D Mario powerup as well. Should get a sequel on the 3DS.
I only voted for best RPG and handheld due to lack of preferred entries in the other categories. I voted Xenoblade Chronicles and Super Mario 3D Land respectively.
@VincentV If you haven't played it, why even bother making a comment? I'm addressing her being a wimp. If I were to ask, could you even give an example when she's actually complaining?

I-U commented on Feature: Nintendo Life's Top 20 Wii Games:

I have thought for a month or so now that Gamecube games were going to be on the Wii U shop near day one. I did not know that they weren't accounced.

Searched Denpa Men to find the demo, and after playing it, what an awesome game we're set to be getting next week. I really like what I've played so far, and can see myself investing a lot of time into the full version coming next week.

I-U commented on Ever Wonder Why Pokémon Black And White 2 Isn...:
I understood the reason why Black & White 2 would be coming to the DS from the beginning. Releasing a game onto a system that has the bigger userbase means more potential success for the title. Game Freak deserves that success, and it gives Pokemon fans a release to be happy with while they work out a 3DS Pokemon experience which will likely have the longest development time for any Pokemon title to date.

I-U commented on Talking Point: Are Wii U Games Going To Be Too...:
I'm not okay with this. Having games at $60 means less of a library, as I get more picky the more expensive games are, which comes back to haunt the initial investment for the system. In the case of the Wii U, it will be the most expensive investment to start with. These games better be stacked. The Wii has taken until this year to really convince me that its $50 a pop is appropriate beyond three games.

I should pre-order this off of Amazon. I want to know if the game will fill in the roles of other players though with bots as Kid Icarus Uprising does? That will make or break this aspect of the game for me.

I-U commented on Feature: In Defence of Super Mario Sunshine:
I enjoy seeing the older fans minimize the opinion of Sunshine being one's favorite by claiming nostalgia. I guess Sunshine is the younger fans' analogue to the older fans' Super Mario World or Super Mario Brothers 3.

I-U commented on Feature: In Defence of Super Mario Sunshine:

If you haven't played it, why even bother making a comment? I'm addressing her being a wimp. If I were to ask, could you even give an example when she's actually complaining?
