Update:
Publisher Watermelon has now confirmed that the Nintendo listing for 23rd October was inaccurate; as a positive it's stated on Facebook that a release date will be confirmed in the coming week.
Original Article:
After a series of delays, former Kickstarter campaign Pier Solar and the Great Architects — essentially an enhanced re-release of WaterMelon’s 16-bit Mega Drive / Genesis title released in 2010 — looks as if it will finally be making its way to the North American Wii U eShop next week, on 23rd October according to Nintendo's game page.
Priced at US$14.99, Pier Solar is an RPG that tells the story of a young botanist who is on a quest to save his father from a strange illness. Along with his two best friends, the three seek out a rare herb to cure the illness. Little do they know, it is the beginning of a big adventure that unravels many mysteries.
Pier Solar promises more than 50 hours of gameplay, built-in achievements, the ability to switch between HD and 16-bit gameplay, added content including side quests and mini-games, multiplayer for up to 4 people, and unique Wii U GamePad features.
If you want to know more about Pier Solar and the Great Architects, take a look at the trailer below, or check out our interview with WaterMelon. Let us know in the comments if this title is on your radar.
Thanks to Ryan Millar for the tip.

So many games to buy next week.
Argh, come on, WaterMelon! You're european developers - give us a european release date, as well!
Hmm, this game sounds impressive.
This is actually one of my most anticipated games for the WiiU, I hope they announce a european release date soon ^^
Yeah, definitely looking forward to this.
Finally they announce a release date! Man, a day before Bayonetta 2? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!???????
Liking everything about this game so far except the 4 directional walking, thats a little too old school for me. Though maybe its only so noticable w/ the multiple on screen characters making it look like Centipede, most of these games even today still only have 1.
I'm a bit RPG'ed out at the moment but the fact that the developer is actually promoting and utilizing the gamepad encourages me to buy the game to show them support. I will wait for the general reception on reviews and miiverse, but the trailer is impressive.
@shigulicious I'm with you! The time sink is usually too much for me and I never finish them anyways. Plus I really want to give Citizens of Earth a try as at least that looks fresh.
I'll pick this up at some point as it does look good! I want to support any good titles on the shop I can even if it's on sale.
Come to Europe!
Only $15 for a full RPG? Nice, but it'll have to wait until next month. I have 4 games coming out in 4 weeks I gotta get...
I might get this, gonna wait to see some reviews though.
@Liam_Doolan, just FYI, it appears the date may not be correct, unless I'm misunderstanding:

I haven't had the desire to play an RPG in years, but I think I will get this. Looks simple enough for me to enjoy, and I'm always glad to see a big indie project hitting the eShop. 2D4life
I read a review somewhere saying that its a solid rpg but quite repetitive.
Gonna get this eventually. Too many games too little time.
@Spoony_Tech
Looks pretty good. 50 hours: Wow! Need an European release date! Will buy it for sure: The only question is WHEN TO PLAY all the wonderful Wii U library?? Backlog is getting bigger and bigger and won't be smaller with Bayonetta 2,SSB U, Shovel Knight and and and... Happy gaming times!
Quite interested, not too convinced about the characters look (cutscenes, not gameplay, 0:55-1:02 in the video), will wait for an EU release date and a review before deciding.
My wallet is bleeding! So, next week we'll have Shantae, Bayonetta 2 and this? What else Nintendo? Oh yes, Castlevania on the VC.
Ill buy it for slow times in between games im waiting for to come out. Looks decent
At first I wasn't interested in this game but, I think I'm coming around finally.
Looks awesome, I really like the gamepad implementation.
@Benji4U You sound familiar!
@Spoony_Tech
Lol! Are you sure...?!
@Jahir
How could I forget Shantae!
$15.95 is gonna be coming out of my funds on the 23rd
Damn you eShop!!!! another game to buy haha. I already need to the The Fall, Teslagrad, Guacamelee, and Master Reboot. ARRRRRG!!!
Solid!! I've been looking forward to this one for a while!
It's about damn time, I hadn't got my Genesis reprints that I pre-ordered last year yet but if this HD version is finally coming out then that'll probably do it for me til then. Still going to wait for the reprint though, I am more interest in anything physical than digital.
just great...been wanting this game all year, an it comes the week of bayonetta,along with all the other prolific DLC and games this year. #gamerproblems
I was sooooooooooooo excited this morning when I first read this article! Now I am back to being disappointed. Oh well, it's not like I have nothing to play on my WiiU at the moment!
@Kaze_Memaryu Are they? I do know one of the main developers is Brazilian, and I had the impression they were actually based in the US (Iowa, if I'm not mistaken).
Either way, I've been eagerly anticipating this one - but maybe it's for the best that it isn't actually coming next week. My backlog is starting to look scary, and this month still has quite a few must-buy games for me.
For the record, this was deconfirmed before the original Nintendo Life article was written. Almost a full day before.
Here I thought that Pier Solar would release the first Thursday (or Tuesday) in November and I've believed that since indie releases started ramping up in frequency late August.
Seems a very likely launch date.
Though, it's just for the Wii U owners as everyone else has had this for weeks now.
On push square it got a very meh review. http://www.pushsquare.com/reviews/ps4/pier_solar_and_the_great_architects
you guys are going to be disappointed in this game. they just need to bring on "project y"
@ricklongo At least that's what I think. According to their homepage, the company is based in Iowa, but I'm pretty sure they're actually a german team, or at least started as one... sadly, it's kinda hard to find info on it right now.
@Subie98 Depends on your definition of meh. After reading the article, it's rather obvious they missed the point of the game in quite a few ways.
And even then, it's exactly what I'm hoping for: an intriguing, yet very classic RPG, almost to a fault. That's precisely what most RPG's in the 90's were like, and that's exactly what they were going for.
So many games. So little time. I'm totally getting this, but it will have to wait. There's Castlevania Arias of I forgot the name, Demon Crests, Bayonetta 2, Pokemon Omega Sapphire, Smash, I'm playing those Castlevania GBA games now and I just started the second one today. I will be binging on Castlevania GBAs till I beat them. Tales of grace for Vita ( yeah RPGs love them) in November. I still need the DCL for Hyrule Warriors and SMK8 and I'm going to school full time for my masters yeah I'm busy" If they only spread them out better during the year.
Still want to get this but Fantasy Life takes top priority right now!
I just saw this on the Ouya Marketplace. I'ts interesting to see that Ouya got precedence over Nintendo in this situation, not that I'm complaining.
Just another reason to love my Ouya I guess
@Hikingguy I also pre-ordered the next reprint of the game for the Genesis/Mega Drive. The production of the carts has just been delayed for a while, perhaps in part due to the HD version. There have been updates since I preordered including an update that went out recently. They're working on getting the carts made right now.
It might be the first Friday of November.
This is acxtually cheaper than the new shantae. Wow
Hopefully they give us the actual release date soon. Whoever messed up should be fired!
@JarredBuzzo I wonder if the "mess up" is that Nintendo jumped the gun.
I dont play games of this genre but if i did.......
Its about time it got a date for release. Its about time..
Looks like Pier Solar has slipped to Nov. 6th
