Thanks Bulbasaurus. The review sounded positive enough for me to pick this up, but that detail is pretty significant and makes me not want the game at all since I was mostly going to play online and probably random.
It's certainly not technically impossible. Obviously other shooters do it. Maybe it would have been worse — I would say undoubtedly — but it would have worked for those who can't get used to touch. They tried to offer button aiming, so what is the excuse for dual analog? Why are crappy button controls technically possible despite speed issues when another circle pad from CPP isn't? I'm glad touch is in, and I have mostly gotten used to it, but wish dual was an option. If the circle pad were set to high sensitivity, the frantic pace would not be that much of an issue. As it is, I find staves completely unplayable due to the controls, and don't ask me what's going on with melee combat, though that's less a controls issue.
A lot of users are trying to shout down anyone with criticisms because apparently if they don't have issues then everyone else is stupid, a jerk, or "doing it wrong," but the fact is a lot of people have issues with the game, and control options would not have hurt anyone here. I've gotten used to the controls mostly (it helps that Babel Club doesn't exactly require a sniper's precision), but I still find vertical aiming difficult and when I need to turn around, it is up to the fates where I end up facing.
One of the benefits of dual analog would have been the potential for easier access to our spells through button mapping. As it is, I refuse to use more than four spells (and would prefer three but find I need all four of my current ones right now) because sorting through them is too clumsy.
I don't understand his comparison to Smash Bros. Dual analog would make this game easier to learn. Command-based specials would make Smash harder to learn. KIU's controls take hours of getting used to while Smash Bros's take a few seconds at most.
I am surprised more fighters haven't caught on and abandoned commands, really. It just favors memorization, not skill. If every fighter is going to end up with 30+ characters, each with 15+ moves when you count supers and all that other nonsense, commands are just adding to a learning curve and placing an artificial barrier between experienced players and newcomers that has nothing to do with skill.
Nintendo's WiiWare restrictions are stupid. Developers who read the rules, develop for WiiWare anyway, and then complain about the rules are significantly stupider.
Still hoping for Kirby's Air Ride 2. He made a sequel to Kid Icarus bazillions of years later, so now my most unreasonable hopes are given slight validation. Can't wait for his reboots of Balloon Fight and Ice Climbers, too.
Oh no. Nintendo has been contaminated with Sega. Now they will have to fire everyone and start afresh to avoid letting the Sega taint spread throughout the company. Pretty soon Mario will have an attitude and the Wii U will have ten different hardware expansions.
Didn't expect this one to come here at all. This worked out perfectly. The voice acting is terrible but kind of funny. Hopefully you can turn it off for when the amusement factor wears off.
Ngmocwhat? Never heard of them. This is like listening to an ant worry about a lion. Something about it just doesn't fit. No matter what this guy has done, Iwata has greater experience and success, and his opinion, whether on the mark or not, is not only irrelevant but bizarre.
I don't follow the gist of the Kotaku argument, but I don't see the problem with someone both advertising a game and giving it a perfect review. A perfect review is an advertisement itself. Appearing in ads for the game seems perfectly acceptable to me.
Not that it matters since Nintendo Life reviews are obviously the only reviews that matter. ...oh, hey there NL, didn't see you there. I was just complimenting you completely sincerely without noticing you were right there.
Glad this is available, but it doesn't make much sense that you can't see this in-game to begin with, and I'm curious why they would do this for phones and not as a 3DS channel/app/ware/thing. Anyway, not a complaint, just a curiosity. It's free and on a platform I have, so all cool.
The black and white goes with the slight horror vibe you get as you are constantly unsure when you will happen upon another Metroid... and of course you always hear that creepy music that lets you know right when you're low on energy.
@warioswoods Midna was great. I thought Twilight Princess was the best of the 3D games. but I didn't like Ocarina of Time much in either of its forms, so this isn't huge praise. I do wish in retrospect that I had played the Cube version because wagattack was tiresome.
Thanks for the review, NL. Like so many other Nintendo fans, I wasn't sure that this game was really for me.
The only way I could see taking advantage of its unique features without making single-player totally different from multi-player would be if they can do 5 or 6 players, but is the Wii U capable of doing 4P split screen AND sending out another split screen to the controller?
They could always go back to Double Dash to avoid having too many screens. The person with the tablet could be in charge of an inventory of items on his screen, or perhaps just use it for aiming his items backwards. Maybe when you switch seats the tablet player could continue to drive on his screen instead of the TV, and the Wii remote player could point his items at the TV. There are possibilities here, and any excuse to make it more like Double Dash than MKW is a good one.
He mentioned the 3DS then said it would be a continuation of their efforts on that platform. I don't see how that could imply it will be like the DS games. Sounds like it'll be more like Ocarina.
But they already said it's not Majora and not a remake, so no, it isn't confirmed at all.
