Whether it would sell or not, Itoi has a job, and it isn't making games. Just because it might be profitable doesn't mean he has to want to spend a ton of time and energy doing it.
The "Impossible" response was made on Twitter when someone asked how they could "make" him do a Mother 4. It was part of a tongue in cheek advice column he was doing temporarily. His answer should be taken in context. It wouldn't be impossible to make the game; it would be impossible to make him make the game.
That is how I saw it translated, anyway, for whatever little that is worth.

Actually, his answer kind of sounds like he didn't understand the question. He seemed to be saying, "VC games never have music changes, so of course.". The whole "not that I am aware of" response indicates he either doesn't know or is pretending not to. The long held theory is that NOA wanted to change the music to avoid potential lawsuits, but NCL would not let. But now it is out in Japan with the OST. With the cat out of the bag, it is possible NOA just decided: well, the door to lawsuits is already open. Or: Now we know for sure they won't permit music changes. I mean, obviously if there are issues he can't say so or that could be used against them.
Just theories to waste time on until the release. It is a curiosity and nothing more. I couldn't be happier with the game having the original soundtrack (well, changing Pokey to Porky would be a good sign for Mother 3 plans...).

If he used the outline for every story every made, then every story has the same outline, in which case, no story has ever been notable but the first. And it couldn't plagiarize the plot and still be original. It was popular for a lot of reasons. Special effects, atmosphere, music, world-building, plot, etc.
I never thought much of Lucas Arts, but I do hope Disney lets them finish their current projects. I hate seeing that happen to anyone. If the employees reorganize as an independent studio, Disney could always license the projects back to them.

Gameplay-wise, I don't see what the PS4 brings to the table that's new. The social stuff, ok, sure, it's neat, not a system seller. The graphics and processing power are handy but I would prefer a cheaper system to a powerful system. So as far as I'm concerned PS4 adds some kind of streaming (which would be cool for demos), and input features that are already done better on other systems.
I have at one point owned a PS3 and sometimes regret selling it a tiny bit, so I am not anti-Playstation by any means. I just don't see any cause for excitement as a user or any cause for concern for Nintendo.

Adam commented on Masahiro Sakurai: Stories in Video Games Can b...:
Dodger, what he is saying is it doesn't make sense for a character you control to die through no fault of your own. At this point, you are throwing game play out the window and ignoring the fact that one of your heroes has been unstoppable all game.
Imagine if in your favorite TV show one of the main characters was played by a great actor and portrayed the character one way, but midseason he is replaced by someone who isn't up to snuff, comes across as a weakling, and is subsequently killed off. You would lose all sense of continuity for reasons beyond the scope of the show.
In a game, you are the actor until the cut scenes, at which point, no matter how good or bad you have done, the game's writer changes how you are portrayed entirely and can have you killed off in ways that don't fit your performance with that character.
I can't think of any time this has happened outside of RPGs where you control several characters, but I can see what he means though it has never occurred for me.
I liked how the story worked in both Brawl and Kid Icarus and am not a fan of overwrought stories in games for similar reasons, if not exactly the same.

Adam commented on Pikmin 3 Will Allow For GamePad-Only Play:
MrWalkieTalkie, it is a bit confusing in the translation, but they are not saying you can only play with this controller and no other. They are saying that, if you want to, you can play with only that screen (and turn off the TV or change the channel). In the article they still refer to the Wii remote being used, so that control scheme is still available, unless I misunderstood you or the article.

SZM, did they bring back marrying your characters in this one? I really wanted to see how that worked in the fan translation of the SFC one, but I couldn't get past the second map (the maps were huge, in my defense, and the translation not complete, if I recall).

A lot of people don't like Earthbound, but I think this one has a broader appeal while still being a Mother game. I can't wait to acquire the legendary Neat Sword.
The art style is neat, and I am interested to see how pairing units will affect the game play. The story seems a little more interesting than normal with undead involved and Marth possibly returning. And yay, more videos and voice acting. The cut scenes in Ike's games were very well done but few and far between.
I haven't been following this, so I may be surprised and excited about stuff everyone else has known for awhile. I am just glad Fire Emblem is finally back. My Unit stands ready.

Adam commented on Nintendo Explains Why Nintendo Land Doesn't In...:
I am responding to the article which asks if we would have liked to see online in the game. I explain my reasons and address those who reapond.
But encouraging people to play their games more is a completely sensible goal. That theory doesn't make much sense. What next, power down automatically every hour to make sure we pace ourselves? I don't see that as their reason, or at least I would hope not, personally.
#37
Adam commented on Nintendo Explains Why Nintendo Land Doesn't In...:
Some people even play games online with their family in cases where they've moved away for work or college, and it would be perfect because the game pad makes voice chat easy and between games you can do a video call to be as close to the same room experience as possible with people you wish you could be with.
#38
Adam commented on Nintendo Explains Why Nintendo Land Doesn't In...:
Windows 8 is not comparable. I don't see where you are going with it. If Nintendo Land had online play, it would still have local. The exact same product would exist but with additional functionality. Nothing is lost.
Nothing is devalued. If you want to spend time with your family, go for it. Online play won't stop you. It isn't up to Nintendo to decide people need to spend more time with their families and less online. You are reading online comments right now instead of spending time with your family. There can be time for both, and you can decide that.
It would be an OPTIONAL feature. It does not in any way affect the rest of the game. There is no reason whatsoever to think it would be bad to include something you are not required to use but that many other people want.

MiiVerse is neat but has nothing to do with this. I can already message my friends and send them doodles. MiiVerse moves existing functions to a different context. I like it, but it is something to enjoy passively and by chance while playing alone. It isn't an activity or a way to share time. Not hating on Miiverse, it is a great concept, but it is apples and oranges. I wouldn't compare the time I spent texting someone to the time we spent playing a game online.
And sure I can know it would be fun online. I have played hundreds of games and large number of online games. I know what I like, and this is right up my alley. I understand some people don't see it as a good online game, but everyone has her own tastes.

Adam commented on Nintendo Explains Why Nintendo Land Doesn't In...:
People keep saying it is a design choice and that it would not be fun online, but many who have played it are saying they would like to play it online. A design choice that leaves many fans disappointed is a poor design choice. Adding online would not prevent others from playing it local. That is the beauty of choice, you get to do what you want to do.
I really enjoy simple voice-enabled games as a means of connecting with people. Once when I had a PS3, a user from this site started a voice chat with me and we both switched our TVs over to the Wii and played Wii Sports Resort while talking. I thereafter referred to this as good times.
If you are responding to this article, you understand the drive to connect with people online. It should not be a huge leap in reasoning to see why others would like to connect with their fellow gamers by gaming. I would say it is a pretty obvious next step.
To someone earlier who wrote a huge tl;dr post in response to my comparing NSMBU and LBP: I did not compare NSMBU and LBP.

Adam commented on Nintendo Explains Why Nintendo Land Doesn't In...:
Yea, Hyperstar. I have friends who have moved away, friends who are starting a family, friends who have difficult work schedules, and friends I know only from this site. I primarily play games as something to do with these people. When I have company, we do other things than stare at a TV.
Clearly some commenters don't have the same problems, but it isn't hard to imagine the appeal of online play for others. They are talking online to us, after all, and I don't see any nay sayers saying that they talk only offline because who needs online communication.

Adam commented on Nintendo Explains Why Nintendo Land Doesn't In...:
Every console has the game pad, even if you aren't using it. Place it nearby and you can chat through it while holding a Wii remote. Even if two people are playing online through the same console, you can share the mic like the Wii did or get headsets like every other console does. This is not a problem that every other online platform hasn't faced already and solved easily.
#43
Adam commented on Nintendo Explains Why Nintendo Land Doesn't In...:
Even if there was online, you could still play offline without being sweared at by little kids, and HarmoKnight could still be "stuck in the 90s" while playing his brand new HD console.
Each system only needs one mic, so it doesn't matter if Wii remotes don't have mics. The Wii just used one mic, too, so clearly this is a non-argument. You can always use headsets, anyway.
Determining the game pad player would not require much consideration. If multiple players select the game pad option (or no one does in a game where it is required) the game can randomly select who uses it, problem solved.

Adam commented on Nintendo Explains Why Nintendo Land Doesn't In...:
Mudjo, people play all sorts of games online all the time. It isn't a hassle. You click a friend name and you are in. And if you don't like a random match up, quit and play with someone else. Most people who play games play right. I had no problems of this sort with Little Big Planet.
As to Nintendo's excuse for Nintendo Land, it is an excuse. What do they think, when I have company over they are going to leave and meet me online instead of playing together? Online and local play can in fact exist on the same disc, and people will play both, local when friends and family are around, online when they are away.
Miiverse is such a great way to connect with friends, why would they see that and not see that playing online is, too, especially with voice chat? By their own logic, Miiverse should not exist because talking in person within the same room is more enjoyable, but no one would buy that, and I am not sure who they think is buying this (the explanation, not the game).

Better yet, why not wish for a new F-Zero with more Star Fox characters? In Command, at least one ending has some of them go on to join the F-Zero league. I could see tossing in Dark Samus, too, though I would prefer the real Samus to stick to one universe.
Not that it really matters. I would totally play Smash Kart. I just don't see the need and I think the characters would mostly seem out of place in a go kart.
#46
Adam commented on Sumo Digital: Mario Kart Should Incorporate Ot...:
Putting aside the fact that Sega's racer is nothing compared to Mario Kartand they shouldn't be giving Nintendo advice in the first place...
The Mushroom Kingdom has the right amount of whimsy for a go kart racing game. Samus and Link would be ridiculous. Captain Falcon already has a racing game. Fox would be a bit out of place as well.
A few would be okay guest stars - Kirby, Ice Climbers, Olimar - and I wouldn't mind it, but there is no point. The characters are just a collection of stats with a face, not individualized with special abilities or anything. Mario characters draw on limitless nostalgia, unlike any of the supporting cast of Sonic, or really most Sega characters in general.
Even if it was just for access to other environments for tracks, Hyrule, Zebes, Coneria, etc... They just don't fit. They are too serious to envision as a setting for go kart racing. Mushroom Kingdom has a bazillion games to draw creative environments from, and they have room to just make up some.
