With The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD's release getting ever closer, and with some rather delightful special edition copies and hardware bundles confirmed, Nintendo is clearly confident that the current and potential future Wii U userbase will be keen to experience the revamped GameCube title again or, in some cases, for the first time.
With the hype generator slowly cranking up, Nintendo UK has now released a rather attractive new story trailer, though as with many Zelda titles the overriding tale is relatively simple, albeit with some twists along the way. This video outlines the basics but mainly takes the chance to show the game in action, introducing some different environments, bosses and mechanics from previous trailers.
Check it out below and let us know what you think.

Cool.
Am i the only one who disliked the first dungeon?
Gorgeous!
Looks good to me, I'm sold!
Nice.
Shame the limited edition is exclusive to Game - they are charging £60 ($92!). Probably will get it from the eshop unless a better deal from shopto or amazon.
Even without orchestrated music, the sound is still better in this version
I cant wait until it comes out Wow!!!!
@Warruz As in Forsaken Fortress or Dragon Roost Cavern? If you mean Forsaken Fortress then I agree. That whole stealth thing was so slow and frustrating when I just wanted to dive into the game. But I loved Dragon Roost Cavern.
Looks pretty good.
I'm hoping a lot of people pick up the Wii U bundle w/ digital download, the game package just to get Ganondorf statue, and then trade the game back in b/c they don't need 2 copies. Then I can pick the game up used and cheap w/ a BF B1G1 promotion.
I know Nintendo doesn't get any money out of used game sales, but I also know I just bought my Wii U for $349 3 weeks ago b/c Iwata said no price cut this year.
I really enjoyed playing this game when i got a gamecube in summer 04. I would play for hours in one sitting. So much fun.
Finally, the Legend of Zelda has come BACK to using buttons to swing Link's sword!!!!! RAAAAAAWRRR~!!!!
@bezerker99 Amen .
@thesilverbrick Yeah the fortress
It looks gorgeous indeed.
Wow its taken me a while to like this im sold on this trailer
I'm so happy!!! I haven't played this in almost 7 years, it's going to feel so fresh...I JUST CAN'T WAIT!
pretty bad trailer.
Show a trailer of the most frustrating part of the game! lol It does look splendid in HD.
AHHH The Wind Waker the best Zelda and most under rated Zelda game all because of the graphics (which i loved by the way)
Looking forward to this especially since I missed out on it with the Gamecube.
Despite being a port, I think this is the first Wii U game that actually has a lot of potential to move some systems. There are a lot of kids that aren't old enough to have enjoyed it the first time around, and to them this is just a brand new gorgeous Zelda game. I know I'd buy a Wii U to play this if I hadn't already bought one and played WW when it was released. That trailer is beyond amazing.
I'm calling it right now but this Zelda bundle will be a system seller and give the Wii U a huge boost.
If ever a game deserved a perfect 10 this is the one!
Now I wonder who has the review for this?!
@thesilverbrick The point of Forsaken Fortress and why I enjoy it so much is for the second visit when you go there and these enemies that you were terrified of before are now getting slaughtered.
the first trip on its own is a little out of place until you realize wait this stealth is meant to make me feel weak so that the growth of links power is clear when he returns.
@Guitardude7 I don't know why everyone seems to think this, but it was not built from the ground up. They used the game's old files and added new lighting and shading and such. They put a lot of care into improving it, but it really is a port. A "remastering," if you will. Exactly how a Bluray edition of a movie is also not a remake.
@galetyler I definitely agree that the return trip to the Forsaken Fortress is awesome. I just didn't like how your first stop after leaving Outset Island is a stealth mission with no equipment. I felt like it kind of stalled the game.
@Guitardude7 From Wikipedia:
"A high-definition remastering, titled The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, will be released for Wii U on September 20, 2013 digitally and October 4, 2013 on disc."
Also, logic. How would it be worth the time and money to literally build a game from the ground up with all new code, redesigning every single aspect when you've already got the source code for the original? It would take just as long as making an all new game. And look at the footage--it's identical, apart from the new polish. Literally "remaking" the game wouldn't make sense.
one of my favorite games and i'll pick up this "remake" when I eventually get the Wii U.
That being said, I feel like I'm less and less impressed by the "HD remake" aspect of it. They completely abused and over did the glowing light during the day time, it's almost annoying to look at. I think it could've been more affective if used much more selectively. Everything else, looks sharper for sure, but they didn't really re-do anything. I think it gives a better sense of depth than the original, looking more like a cel-shaded game and less like a cartoon. Some of the lighting is nice on the characters. Other than that everything else looks the same.
I'm also disappointed in the "Hero Mode" instead of getting a "master quest" style mode. Granted, that would've been a lot of work, and Nintendo wanted to get the game out to please Zelda fans.
I'd love to see a DLC of a master quest eventually!! One can hope...
Already had this (and A Link Between Worlds) pre-ordered since it first went up on Amazon.co.uk. Lucky for me, since the price has gone up by £5 in the last couple of days. I'll be looking forward to not sleeping much on the weekend it's released.
The updated graphics really do the original so much justice, it is just about perfect. An extra dungeon wouldn't have gone amiss, but it's well worth the money just as it is.
THE COLORS!
It looks really beautiful! Great trailer!
And in Australia we once again get no limited edition or figurine, thanks nintendo!
@Guitardude7 I wish it were built from the ground up. The models are all the same - they added new filters/lighting.
Is it just me or does it look... blocky? A lot of the stills looked really smooth and gorgeous, but this looks all pixely and such.
Shame the music isn't orchestrated.
Oh well. Still ecstatic with my pre-order.
This looks awesome. I can't wait to check it out. Lots of games I want over the next couple of months.. and no money. What to do.
Looks nice, and I will definitely pick it up, but it's true that it's just the same game with better graphics. Which makes me think that the rest of the team (Aonuma included) must have been working in the new Zelda all this time, so hopefully the new one could be ready to be launched by the end of the next year, along with X, Fire Emblem x SMT, and Smash Bros!
Yeah, I should stop dreaming...
This trailer surely reminded me why I never liked this game.
Man the UK gets all the cool videos.
One year ago, before the release of Wii U, I was looking for a Gamecube controller and a Wind Waker copy in order to play it once again on Wii since the last time I played in 2004. But the work and studies in front make it almost impossible to re-play it (being an adult sucks) Then when I finally got the chance to start playing it, literally one week later this HD remake was announced... And I almost started crying of happiness! So I stopped playing the original and even if the game was going to be out until fall I was confident that the wait would be worth it, and now, after watching this trailer I'm totally convinced that it was worth it! Replaying my favorite game of all time in HD and with all the new additions, it's just so nice, man :') Just a few weeks more and it would be here, guys!
@belmont Good for you I guess? I mean, your statement is kind of pointless... Why reply to a topic on a game you don't like? It doesn't make much sense...
Strangely enough, this will be my first playthrough of Windwaker. I bought the Gamecube version for my collection, but I've been waiting for the Wii U release to start playing. Glad I waited. I have fond memories as a teenager walking into my brother's room and seeing him play Windwaker. And sometimes just watching him play for hours. Metroid Prime also- I would watch him play for 8 hours a day sometimes... the game was that fun, even just to watch.
The outdated midi soundtrack still bugs me :/ The soundtrack has too much potential if given new life
Shame they did not try to work in the two cut dungeons (I know ideas from them were reused in later Zelda games, but still), I would've bought it in an instant.
As now it looks really pretty, but as someone who's played Wind Waker hundreds of times on Gamecube I'll happily stick to that.
yeah same while it looks amazing and im curious to play the fact that they didnt try to at least add those missing dungeons even if they were made different since that was reused just sucks if they did add those dungeons it would of been a sure preorder for me but i got other games to get maybe i will get this later used or something
This remake is looking pretty gorgeous. I have already played Windwaker many times but I still intend to buy this game. Now I just need to decide if I want the Windwaker Wii U bundle since the price cut has peaked my interest.
@Guitardude7
its a port dude. do you have a souce confirming it was built from the ground up? ill wait...
I preordered the Limited Edition with the Ganondorf figure. Does anyone know anything about the possibility of a gold-foil box? Is it a preorder bonus? Available in Europe?
I still have the Gamecube Limited Edition (PAL).
Worth it for the 60hz Ocarina of Time and Master Quest.
Not bothered about Windwaker though. Don't think it is that good.
ILOVEITLOVEITILOVEIT This game is gonna be awesome! Can't wait!
I have to admit, i didn't see any single PS4 or Xbox One game with such a good use of color palettes.
I've seen a general trend of grey and brown.
Even in last gen i've seen like 2 or 3 games on PS3 and same 360 that used much colors, talking exclusives maybe Yakuza 4 and Lost Odyssey did the best range of colors on both consoles.
Yes, i'm not counting multiplatform. If i did Borderlands 2 would be the one to rule them all, right after WW.
@Guitardude7
how can you ever provide a proper rebuttal? your claim was completely false from the start. i just wanted to point that out. have a good day bud
Im actually a lil mad with nintendo for making a WW bundle since i already have it for gcn and dont need it for wii u right now. I want so many other games first
Yeah the white bloom is not good looking, need to tone that the f down
Its been 10 years... I CAN'T WAIT!!!! Hope there is an OoT HD 1080p remake too.
Pre-ordered mine on Friday!
