All the Batman games were cool but you could change Batman with X hero (Strider on Ninja Gaiden). Due to the technical limitations you couldn't really feel that you were playing as the Batman. This was resolved only recently with the Arkham series. Even on the PS2 most Batman games were generic action titles although some were fun to play.

@kobashi100 Sorry I was talking more about "Gaming" android devices like xperia play, archos gamepad etc. Most of them cost 100-150 euros.

@BensonUii So you have never played homebrew games on PC, android or PSP? What is different trying it on a 3DS? There is nothing wrong with homebrew. Piracy is totally illegal though.

I always want to see what the homebrew community has to offer. Some years ago I got my second PSPgo for this reason. They were some excellent emulators and games. I still play with it time to time.

However now times have changed. You can easily use android devices for emulation and homebrew and this is far more convenient of risk of bricking you device, Nintendo blocking the exploit etc. Also you can also media players, internet and social media on an android device.

I may try this to see if there are some cool homebrew especially if it somehow helps to remove the stupid relic of the past called region lock.

belmont commented on Sony: PS Vita Is Better Than 3DS And The Wii B...:

@Bolt_Strike Last week with Tales of Hearts.

@Tobias95 I have more games than you on my Vita, including Plus games of course.

The "Vita has no games"is not true and it is Sony's fault that everyone believes this due to bad marketing. If someone likes games made in Japan, jrpg games, fighting games, indies he will love the system. Clearly Vita is not for everyone, maybe not even for an average game though.

belmont commented on Sony: PS Vita Is Better Than 3DS And The Wii B...:

Sometimes I think I am the only one in the world that loves my Vita and think it of my favourite gaming system. I love the countless rpg games and fighting games that it has and I can play my favourite psp (another personal favourite) and psone games on it. Also it has the best screen and controls I have seen. Of course I would love a new Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Final Fantasy or Castlevania, like what happened in psp, but I can bear without them.

I love my 3ds as well, I like Layton, Ace Attorney and Pokemon but it feels way outdated compared to the screen and web capabilities of the Vita. It may be that Ninty franchises don't appeal to me as they used to but that's a different story.

As for the second comment I enjoy the Wii U way less than the original Wii and my PS4. When I mostly play VC games something is clearly wrong.

Soar seems like time consuming and frustrating from what I understand from the review.

Anyway I also would like to know if the game is super easy, if the Frontier is included and if the extra plot that was advertised is somewhat interesting.

Another point is if the game works with Bank at launch, as promised.

OK seems that I am the only one who sees no point in all this amiibo thing.
They are somewhat expensive (in Europe anyway) and it would be better to spend money for more game titles instead of buying amiibo.
Maybe I will just get one or two down the line for collecting reasons to go with other Videogames figures I have but I don't think I will ever use them in a Videogame.

SMB controls are somewhat clumsy but it is easy to learn them. Some think happened with lots of 2D platforms back in the day. Latest Mario games have smoother controls. However, even though The Dragon's Trap is one of my favourite games ever, it is not that the controls were perfect (in the Game Gear version anyway).

belmont commented on I'll Take Zelda And Mario Over Sharing Call Of...:

@JusticeColde Good luck playing Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid and more jap games, especially jrpg games if you are only a PC or Steam user. That's the basic reason why a lot of people prefer consoles.

As for Reggie what he says doesn't make sense. I don't know about XBox1 but PS4 has some interesting exclusive games like the Lost of Us, Drive Club, Killzone, Knack, PT and more psn titles. Also we have plenty Mario and Zelda. Seems like annual releases like other major games (cod etc).

As for the Wii U it is a cool system but when I only buy VC games on it something clearly is wrong.

belmont commented on The Next Batman Game Is Arkham Knight, And No,...:

@Superiorspider I didn't think I would like the Superior series however it has me hooked. It is time though that Peter should come back since Superior started become somewhat boring and I am glad they are returning to Amazing. Also @turtlelink stated a FACT!

@SparkOfSpirit @Senario There are two problems with gaming PC's. Firstly you need to buy stuff for them every year or so with a cost maybe more that PS4. Secondly you can't play Final Fantasy 15 or randon j-rpg or j game on it.

@Hy8ogen I have a Vita, it is slowly becoming my favourite gaming platform and, including PSP and PS1 classics, I may have more than 100 games. Most with the Vita feel the same and buy a lot of games. Vita has low hardware but big software sales that are off the usual charts since they are mostly digital.

@Dark-Link73 I have thought too what you stated but after reading an article from an unknown developer that claimed that porting PS3 games to Wii U was not so easy I sort of changed my mind. Seems that Wii U has a similar architecture to PS3 but is somewhat more GPU based while PS3 is way more CPU based.

@element187 I don't think it is that easy. Even X1 is not capable of playing some PS4 games on 1080. Wii U has different architecture and massive 3D open world games need, except for graphics, other things like better AI and more that next-gen consoles are more capable of producing, see Killzone for example. This may be the way FF15 become a next-gen title.

As for Batman I will surely get this game sometime. I liked all the previous games on the series and I am a huge comics fan.

belmont commented on Platinum: Nintendo Has Been The "White Knight"...:

@MadAdam81 @element187 @Xilef To be honest I don't really care about Bayonetta 2 since, if the games turns up good, I will get it on my Wii U, that is basically untouched recently. I think we will enjoy this game. However the commercial failure smells from a mile away. Wii U has a relatively small install base and those "mature" titles tend not to sell that good on Nintendo consoles. Ninja Gaiden 3 was published by Nintendo yet sometime later a more "complete" version was released on PS3. Also Microsoft paid for the development and published Mass Effect, yet it somehow ended up on PS3 some years later. There are more examples of exclusives been lost.

belmont commented on Platinum: Nintendo Has Been The "White Knight"...:

I may gat it depending on the reviews but I will afraid that almost no one will buy it like what happened with Wonderful 101 and more "mature" titles like RE Revelations and Mirror of Fate. In the end they may also be some Director's Cut version on PS4 in 2 or 3 years.

belmont commented on Dedicated Video Game Platforms To Remain Ninte...:

@ledreppe I really look forward to a unified platform too. Sony has somewhat already done it with the cross-buy and cross-play/save with the Vita. It surely is good to buy a PS1 Classic or a retail title and be able to play with no additional cost to both home and portable consoles.

In the end I wondered why someone, especially Nintendo with its successful handhelds, has not tried a unified platform yet.

However I just want more games from Nintendo since they have lots of studios working for them. Also something somewhat more modern would be good. Useless gimmicks and this QOL does not interest me that much.

Till this day the best adaption of Console Wars is Hypedimension Neptunia.

As usual for Europe SEGA was more popular here back in the 90's. I actually preferred SEGA due to the arcade ports and stupid policies of Nintendo on games like Mortal Kombat. Also j-RPG games (personal favorite genre) were pretty much non existent in Europe back then. I played the crap out of both Game Boy and Game Gear though.

For the sequel they need to fix two things. Firstly the bad looking chibi styled graphics that look like pixelated mess that they keep them for some strange reason since 4 heroes of light. Also they should not censor the plot in the localization. I enjoy jrpg games but the possibility of censorship holds me back and I have not bought the game yet.

I enjoyed this game on my Vita. The only bad think that is super frustrating is that this game has the worst map ever for a metroidvania game. Seems that they fixed it. Too bad it is not cross-buy. We can assume that no one bought the Vita/3DS version.

This game is way better than what the reviews state IMO and higly recommended for any DC comics or Batman fan.

Castlevania 64 is a good game but not as good as other games in the series. I fall in those bottomless pits countless times and I had to restart. For some strange reason you should have the Memory Pack to save a useless extra cost. Also the camera is not good.

belmont commented on UK Retailer Argos Drops Wii U Premium to £179.99:

@element187 PS3 and 360 are not hd twins especially if you play games from Japan and for the same reason PS4 and X1 will not be twins as well. Maybe a PC that costs 1200+ euros is better than PS4 but it is way expensive and in one year you will have to downgrade the games to play them. The 30fps problem that PS4 has in some games is because the developers are not still that familiar with it. That's why there have been updates that upscale them. The Wii U had similar problems its release.

I have both a Wii U and a 3DS and I live in south Europe. If Ninty somehow did what you suggest I would never buy any of them as most of us here. You would have to import a console from the UK, pay taxes and risk it because it may die. You would have to buy from the e-shop only since the consoles are region locked and lose all your games if the console dies and have to send it back to the UK etc. So for smaller countries it is not worth it.

@Kirk I agree. The price always matters. There would be no way I would ever order a PS4 if it was more than 400 euros.

belmont commented on Talking Point: Is The Castlevania Series Finis...:

A very interesting article. The real question is "Is Castlevania finished ?" though.

The problem is not that a new Castlevania title may not be on a Nintendo console but if there will be a new one at all after lords of shadow 2. IGA and Mercury are both done with the series anyway. As for LOS2 nobody would buy it on the Wii U. And after SOTN PlayStation seemed a better fit to the series anyway. Too bad the GBA and DS titles were not very successful. I enjoyed all of them. They had fantastic music.

The LOS series were not really needed. I very much enjoy them but I preferred older games like Aria of Sorrow (personal favourite) and Lament. PS2 Castlevania games are much better than what the article states. The nature of Castlevania is not to be a God of War clone, it may be closer to Silent Hill as far as 3d titles are concerned.

As for Mirror of Fate I sometimes regret buying it. I spend 50 euros on it and only 5 months later there is a superior HD version on PS3 for 13 euros. And they said they will release it before the 3DS version was even released, I just did not expect it so soon.

belmont commented on Review: Wii Sports Club: Golf (Wii U eShop):

@ThomasBW84 Sometimes I would want the rating to go away and have, instead of a number, a summary of the review and a comparison of its key points to those of similar games or a prediction of the games that may enjoy it. You can't compare retail games to mini games but it is clear that there is market for both nowadays.

@LastLife Tetris is the first game that comes to mind that is like what you describe. However as someone grows older may move to games that take themselves more "seriously".

@LDXD @JaxonH @divinelite Hey guys sorry for joining in but I agree with all of you. It is good to see some praise for both the Wii U and the Vita. Both platforms deserve it and I hate reading all this doom scenarios on the net. Although I didn't have to get games for my Wii U yet I have more than 200 games for the Vita if I count PSP and PS1 games and highly enjoy the device although it has some flaws (like where is Final Fantasy and when do they plan localizing more Japan games).

@RedFireTiger Just remembered there is a Demo at the e-shop. Try it, I think you liked it.

@khululy Lol you may be right the only pure action 3D games I have played are God of War and Lords of Shadow.

belmont commented on Review: Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate (3DS):

@hosokawasamurai Have you played any of those games? Metal Gear HD is identical to the PS3 version and it was Konami's decision to omit Peace Walker since Vita does a good job in upscaling the PSP version (according to Hideo anyway, I don't really agree). Injustice is a great game that runs on 60fps and looks good on Vita. It is sort of downscaled from the PS3 version visually but plays flawlessly and identically. Only drawback is the bad cutscene video compression. These kind of games is why I got a Vita.

As for Batman Blackgate... I really like this game. The only bad thing is the very confusing map with lots of turns that don't make sense. Also the game is a sequel to Origins but does not spoil it. Keep in Mind that there are three different endings with minor differences that may please DC fans. The order that you fight the bosses determines the ending. The boss fights are very fun. The Visuals are very good, the cutscenes are GREAT and the combat is identical to Origins and there is no troublesome combat or unresponsive controls. I am speaking about the Vita version but the 3DS version seems identical only a bit downscaled visually. The game is highly recommended to Batman fans.

@RedFireTiger If you want a game like the NES Castlevania then Mirror of Fate may not be for you since it does not play like Castlevania but like a strange 2D version of God of War. I ended up liking the game but still think that the series should stop be God of War clones.

belmont commented on Platinum Games Producer Hates "Pedantic Port-B...:

@Einherjar I will look into Planescape Torment. I will borrow it from a friend to check it and buy it if I like it. I second Xenogears, one of my favourite game. Too bad it was never released in EU and had to use means I don't like to play it. EU fans have asked Square a million of times for PSN release but they were ignored. I don't have a 360. In fact the only game I have tried on MS consoles is Pro! I could ask someone to lend me the console for Lost Odyssey though. Too bad the PS3 version was canceled. Thank you for the suggestions :-)

@element187 If I am not mistaken none of those game you mention were developed in house from Nintendo with the exception of the first Metroid games. They were exclusives developed by hired secpnd parties or third parties. All those, in my opinion, are solid games, with the exception of eternal darkness that is more possible to laugh than getting scared. We were talking for actual Ninty developing a mature game in house. I agree that shooting down other people is not "mature", just violent. I cannot play those fps games. From the games you mentioned only God of War touches serious themes like family, life, death and betrayal. I so much wanted to play SMT4 but, as usual, it is not available in EU. However I don't get why the tedious, endless and useless sailing in Wind Weaker in which you lose time doing nothing is more fun that travelling in the Last of Us. The only bad thing I find in the Last of Us is that you have to merciless kill a lot of unaffected people with no real reason. And it definitely took me a lot more than 12 hours. And as perfect as a Mario game will be it will sure bore some to play a game without a story. Obviously though the games on other systems are not 95% shooters, especially on Sony platforms.

belmont commented on Platinum Games Producer Hates "Pedantic Port-B...:

@JaxonH @Einherjar I very much enjoy this conversation my friends, even though we have went off topic! Both sides have their points anyway and in the end it is down to personal taste. I may check the PC games Eihnerjan PC suggested. In fact I don't have a good computer and I have never played a game in PC! As you can guess my personal favourites are j-rpg games that can provide a setting and a story as I described. And I understand that, especially turned based ones, can be a little bit shallow on the gameplay but I don't care if I enjoy the ride and the game has an epic feel to it.

belmont

belmont commented on Platinum Games Producer Hates "Pedantic Port-B...:

@Einherjar Point taken :-) I totally get you point. I haven't player elder scrolls since friends told me it is buggy on PS3 but I clearly understand your point. In the end of the day (provided the game is not broken) I would choose and epic scaled mature story over totally solid gameplay and I like the cinematic or anime cutscenes. I forgot about Majora's Mask, it clearly has mature themes and a gloomy dark world and I enjoyed it. In Link's Awakening I kept playing because I so much wanted to explore and see the true nature of the island while I gave up A Link To the Past and Wing Weaker because they were sort of "save a princess" and "kill a big guy that wants to destroy the world for no reason" and returned to beat them way later. However you are right that more gameplay oriented games are needed, it is just most of them will not be of my liking :-)

@matirishhh This is why I love Metal Gear. Very serious and mature story and you can beat it with Zero kills. When I got this trophy I felt like I really achieved something.

belmont commented on Platinum Games Producer Hates "Pedantic Port-B...:

@Einherjar In fact Metroid is the IP I had in mind. It has already a somewhat darker tone and you actually care about the plot in some of the games with Fusion the first coming to mind. Zelda could offer a more serious game but I sort of got tired with it with the boring stories of more recent games. However a game that somewhat belongs to what I consider "serous plot with mature themes" is Link's awakening, a game I love. I still remember this epic adventure and the debate over the story. Something like this could do the trick. I don't know if it was really planned from the developers. Obviously you cannot make a "mature" Mario game (excluding one or two of the rpg games) due to its pick up and play nature. It may be because I have gotten older but those games don't appeal to me as they used to. I want to "fell" the adventure in my games and this is simpler in huge worlds in rpg or adventure games.

In the end of the day Ninty has the recourses and experience to create a "mature" game. It is obvious that they don't want because they want the "child and family image" preserved (that's why they killed letterbox) something that it is sooo wrong. They wait for second and third party developers to offer those games however Bayonetta 2 is not one of them in my opinion.

@ShadowFox254 I wasn't sure if the 360 version is buggy but I don't have a 360 anyway. I am mostly SEG ... e Sony and Nintendo gamer .

belmont

#44

belmont commented on Platinum Games Producer Hates "Pedantic Port-B...:

@element187 Exactly. That's why I was talking about "Bayonetta 2.5" or "Bayonetta 2 Directors Cut". There are examples when Microsoft or Sony paid third parties for games that essentially were released in rival platforms. Mass Effect 1 is the first that comes to mind. Personally I don't care what happenes with Bayonetta 2 but the topic is interesting.

@Einherjar To me a "mature" game uses plot elements to tell a story that cannot target children because it will be suggestive to them or they simply could not understand it properly. Silent Hill and Xenogears are some classic titles that fit in the above idea. I would like for Ninty (and any developer really) to try to "mature" some IP or create new in the above sense. I personally like playing games in the above sense.

I have to agree with @TheGZeus . Just exchanging short phrases with random people you don't know or you will never get to know is no social networking. Anyway I never saw the point in the existence of StreetPass. No one has a 3DS here or they are afraid to take it out. Even if I could get hits I would never use it.
After all those years 3DS lacks basic social features like a proper e-mail client, twitter and facebook interaction. The Miiverse addressed some of those issues but it is still a bit restrictive.

belmont commented on Super Mario 3D World Drops Down UK Charts in S...:

@element187 I sort of disagree. All 2D Mario games I have (and I have a lot) seem almost the same to me with minimal changes in useless power ups. The same goes for other series too. Zelda is essentially the same game with just other dungeon layouts. This is why I sort of got bored of them. I don't care about fps games but friends told me that this applies to them.

However minimal change is not always a bad think. Why change something if it works, people like it and sells? In the end it comes to the genre you enjoy most. The same can be said for traditional j-rpgs. I still love and play them and a lot of them sort of play in the same way.

belmont commented on Xbox One UK Sales Set to Pass Wii U's Lifetime...:

I have a Wii U and I will never buy an X1 but I really don't understand what's the deal with the X1. If someone wants to spend 500+ euros to play fps (or FIFA) games that he/she enjoys it is perfectly fine. Also it is fine if someone wants to spend 350+ euros (at launch) to play Mario. I don't play fps games but if someone likes them he or she is not "bad gamer" or "enter random bad word" by default. And by default whoever plays Mario is not "the ideal best core gamer".

Also PS4 and X1 are not PC twins. There are many key differences in first and second party titles like Uncharted etc. that you can't find on the other one or PCs.
