Re: Balatro Surpasses 500,000 Sales In First 10 Days

umbreon_sylveon

Love this video game! It is the perfect game for grab-and-go play or endless hours on the couch! I am so glad I have it for my upcoming flight. I will be playing it the entire 6-hour flight.

It is extremely rewarding to come up with a game-breaking strategy on the fly. It's all about adapting to what tools it gives you and honing in on that strategy. It's a true delight. It truly stands among the greats like Slay the Spire and Cobalt Core. 10/10. It's also a game of great value. I've put 200 hours into Slay the Spire over the past 3 years. I can easily do the same for Balatro. 200/$15 gives me a $.075/hr price. That is value! For another example: Breath of the wild (2x playthroughs) = appx 200 hours/$60 = $.30/hr price. Which is also good! Forgive me and my justifications and love of numbers.

@aaronsullivan Ive played about 3 hours now. It's extremely fun! The gameplay loop is similar to Slay the Spire. I love the combination of looking at your cards but also the battlefield and positioning yourself and your weapons. I am also pleased with the trading of the party members. You choose 3 party members, each supplying you with their starting cards and their deck options. One may supply defense, another robotic turrets, and yet another focusing on movement and evasion. Really fun!

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's GBA Library With Two RPG Classics Next Week

umbreon_sylveon

Hot damn. The overlords at Nintendo have listened to us and have blessed us with what we want: all of these remasters and ports! What a happy year already. Paper Mario Thousand Year Door and golden sun. Incredible start to 2024. These are games that are pivotal to replay for me. These games are what got me into JRPGS and RPS outside of Pokémon. I quickly followed it up with tales of symphonia and got me ready for the powerhouse that was PP TYD.

Thank you Nintendo, and I really mean it. More please! I’ve got disposable income.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Party Games

umbreon_sylveon

My boyfriend and I regularly play Mario Party online with family members. 2v2 in Super Mario Party is outrageously fun.

I had a blast playing Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime and Towerfall at a bachelor party a few years ago. Jackbox games are always a crowd-pleaser as well.

I desperately want a new Mario Party though. I was hoping for more DLC for Mario Party Superstars, but the old games being on the N64 online expansion pass fits the bill quite nicely. Please give us a new MP with lots of maps and lots of fun!

Re: Nintendo Is Most-Nominated Publisher At The Game Awards 2023

umbreon_sylveon

Hogwarts Legacy being denied even 1 nomination is a joke. At minimum, it should have been nominated for score/music seeing as it was nominated for a Grammy. It also has the second highest sales for 2023 (Tears of the Kingdom is at #1) and Hogwarts Legacy hasn't even been released yet for Switch.

We all know why.

Re: Hands On: Born Of Bread Is A Cut Above Other Paper Mario-Like RPGs

umbreon_sylveon

@blindsquarel Here's where I got the data. The source did not include Color Splash. https://www.vgchartz.com/game/226196/paper-mario/

The ONLY reason why people like me are so vocal and argumentative about the series and its direction is that while the games are liked by part of the fanbase, they are not well received by others. Big N has left my side in the dust. They are continuing to push out these games that divide the fanbase, yet don't appease both sides by creating one for each side. All of the anger and resentment goes away as soon as they make one for us. TTYD remake is a step in the right direction for sure. Notice how the internet reacted when that was announced. Nintendo really is seemingly going in the right direction by giving us TOK AND also remaking Legend of the 7 Stars and TTYD.

Re: Hands On: Born Of Bread Is A Cut Above Other Paper Mario-Like RPGs

umbreon_sylveon

I want us all to buy TTYD remake in droves so that big N can return to the OG formula. Unfortunately, the newest games have outsold the OG games:

Paper Mario - 1.37 million.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door - 1.91 million.
Super Paper Mario - 4.23 million.
Paper Mario: Sticker Star - 2.49 million.
Paper Mario: Color Splash.
Paper Mario: The Origami King - 3.47 million.

Let's make TTYD remake the highest selling game in the "franchise"

Re: Anniversary: Tales Of Symphonia Became A GameCube JRPG Favourite 20 Years Ago

umbreon_sylveon

I've played quite a few games in the series, but it all started with Symphonia on the gamecube. One of the best and most memorable games I've ever played. I still consider it in my top 5 games ever played. Every game since has been a slight downgrade in some fashion ever since.

I've played the following: Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, Xillia, Zesteria, Berseria, and Arise. I couldn't even finish Vesperia, as I got tired of it.

Re: Review: The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood - A Bewitching Narrative Deckbuilder

umbreon_sylveon

@Polvasti This is exactly why I said my piece. I'm openly criticizing the feminist anti-man bashing and political pandering of this game so that people can have a well-rounded view of what the game is like before purchasing.

Seeing "sisterhood" in the title did not automatically ring "feminism" in my mind, and there are probably others that would feel the same. I'm simply letting others know that this game has a misandrist message.

As to my other point, if a game was calling out the problems of "Bidenomics", there would immediately be a wave of angry people in the comments.

Once again, I'm pointing out that this game has a heavy political/sexist agenda. People may LOVE that and this game would be right up their alley. There are many people that could see my thoughts and think, "Nah, this game isn't for me".

The reviewer clearly didn't want to point any of this out, which is reasonable (much better than the utter bias found on Kotaku or IGN), and I am wanting to point out the political nature and sexism found in the game.

Re: Review: The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood - A Bewitching Narrative Deckbuilder

umbreon_sylveon

My thoughts:

Interesting concept. It was a visual novel where your tarot card readings change the direction of the story, which could mean multiple play throughs to see different stories.

The good: fun to dive into the lore and learn the rules of the magical cosmos. Interesting characters. Great visuals.

The bad: not happy about the man bashing. I’m sorry but my litmus test is to do the reverse and see if that would be offensive. I doubt people would be praising this game if it was blaming women for the problems of our society. It was pretty pompous in this regard. Also, they had to throw in a “make American great again” = fascism joke. I wonder if this game would have been received well if they made a joke instead about “build back better”?

Great game, but the creators think that they are arbiters of reality and wish they could read tarot cards to change the conservatives into blue haired feminists with subservient male slaves.

Final review : 7/10. Great idea and great storytelling, but polarizing.

Re: Talking Point: Is Tears Of The Kingdom The Scariest Zelda Game Ever?

umbreon_sylveon

Great article for a Sunday. ToTK is definitely the “scariest” game of the series to me. First Zelda game to make me just go “nope!” In a very long time. OoT has the redeads and the dead hand (the kakariko well?! 😱). Majoras mask has the Gibdo mask story line and the alien abduction. Skyward Sword has the ancient cistern depths. All great moments we all remember, but ToK has so many scary moments. From the panic you get from the gloom hands, to the first spotting of a Gleeoks or a Frox, there are many times I was just scared to begin a fight. Excellent game and some major nightmare fuel for sure.

Re: Soapbox: 1080° Snowboarding Is The Coolest Nintendo Ever Got

umbreon_sylveon

Never played the 1080 franchise. I played SSX tricky on the GameCube a lot though! Love the snowboard genre. I played so much that it convinced me to go snowboarding with friends in high school. It’s now a favorite sport of mine! I in fact just came back from Park City, Utah on a snow trip. So thankful that Nintendo made these games to inspire many to get outside and try it IRL. Whether shredding the gnar IRL or digitally, it’s so fun.
