Re: Poll: Monster Hunter Rise Is Out Today On Switch, Are You Getting It?

turntSNACO

Started playing. Game should be great, but makes a bad first impression. Shame they couldn't hit 720p undocked; it looks blurry even on a Switch Lite. And somehow we still have tiny, hard-to-read text on Lite even after it's been out for ages. And after MHW it's surprising to see them go back to 3DS-era pacing that infodumps 40 different mechanics through written tutorial before you've even had a chance to swing a weapon.

I'm sure I'll get used to the resolution and catch up on all the mechanics, but boy is it a rough start.

Re: Reminder: Persona 5 Strikers Launches Today On Nintendo Switch

turntSNACO

@Yosher I wish more people had your attitude. Totally understandable to not want to play a sequel if the publisher hasn't given access to the original on the platform you own. Too many folks act like Strikers existing on Switch/PC is a slap in the face. Instead of, you know, a game they can choose not to buy.

Re: Dead By Daylight Is Getting A Colourblind Mode Following Provocative Comments By One Of Its Designers

@Yanina Yeah...it's tricky with this type of issue. It's certainly understandable the guy would get annoyed after being flooded with the same question or request. But being tenacious to the point of annoyance also seems to be one of the more successful avenues for social change.

The nice thing is that it worked out that way here. It would have been nice if he hadn't been dismissive, and I'm sure the studio would've preferred less bad press. But this is what it took for the story to get big enough for them to take action, so I guess the system kind of works?

@Vsaxo27 You definitely don't just have to just accept it, but it still might be worth trying to understand why it's widely seen as provocative by others. Which is basically because he told people with a disability to shut up and stop asking for a feature that A) they need in order to play the game effectively, and B) could be implemented by the studio if they cared enough not to exclude them.

@Yanina Sure, but accessibility features and home screen icons are not in the same category. Imagine a person using a wheelchair asking their employer to install a ramp so they can get into their office. You could say "nobody would care if it was about changing the color the office is painted", but hopefully you wouldn't. Issues of access are more > aesthetic preferences

@tkdboy1889 Ok so here's the flak...I find it pretty problematic to say something like this isn't "owed" to people based with disabilities. In the US, the ADA mandates accessibility features such as ramps and rails in places of public accommodation. That's a mutual agreement that we owe it to people with disabilities to do what we can to provide access.

There's no law as clear that pertains specifically to gaming (though web accessibility is generally thought to fall under the ADA), but I really hope we can collectively get into the mindset that accessibility features are important. Saying "we'll do it if we feel like it" is very belittling IMO, because he's acting like it's unreasonable for people to expect basic accommodations. Public pressure like this can be the tool to make things better.

Re: Image & Form's New Game Required Power The Switch Didn't Have, So It Did A Deal With Xbox

@playstation_king They talked to MS, MS showed immediate interest. Maybe they talked to Sony and Sony showed less interest. Maybe they didn't bother because early conversations with MS led them to believe they wouldn't need to. Dude probably wouldn't go out of his way to say "Sony didn't care about our game" or whatever.

As for them losing money...it's a good rule of thumb to assume that people won't make decisions that are against their own interests. Either the down payment they get for game pass is bigger than what they projected to earn on PS, or they decided to prioritize the guaranteed money over the potential earnings. We know none of the numbers here - I&F does.

Re: Image & Form's New Game Required Power The Switch Didn't Have, So It Did A Deal With Xbox

@playstation_king Read more closely. He said they went decided to go to the powerful console makers and that they had "a bit of discussion back and forth". That's the part where Microsoft promises to pay them for game pass and console exclusivity. There's no BS; the whole story is right there.

Sony won the last generation handily because they just had more & better exclusives. I can't fault MS for trying to compete. At least they're being more open than Sony by making all their console exclusives available on PC.

Re: Swery Says He Will 'Fight With The Producer' To Work On Deadly Premonition 2's Awful Frame Rate

turntSNACO

@korosanbo It probably depends on the size and health of the studio. If a studio is counting on revenue coming in at a certain point to keep things going, it must be really hard to say "nah, we can wait another couple months before earning any money". Obviously studios like Naughty Dog and CD Projeckt Red are going to be more stable and know they're making millions whenever the game drops, so there's more incentive to take time to get it exactly right on day 1. Just a guess - I'm sure there's tons of good reasons why different studios handle things differently.

Re: Mini Review: Poopdie - Chapter One - Like Poop, Butts And PewDiePie? Then You're In Luck!

turntSNACO

@Random-User I appreciate the response. FWIW, I really don't detest the guy. I was a fan a decade ago when he was an up-and-comer playing Amnesia: The Dark Descent mods. He's done some dumb stuff since then, but I don't hate him for it. I'm neither a fan nor trying to get him cancelled, so my opinion on him now doesn't really matter.

I wrote what I did because I think it's understandable that Pewdie being featured would be a con for some people, and I because I found it ironic that some folks were so offended about the "Pewdiepie is a con" joke in the review on behalf of someone who famously trafficked in some truly offensive attempts at humor.

Basically, I find it frustrating when people are more angry about an offhand remark in a video game review than they are at racism. If Pewdie has grown in the last few years, that's awesome. If you're a fan, it's not my goal try and convince you that you shouldn't be. I watch Game Grumps, and God knows they've said some problematic stuff in the past.

Re: Review: Borderlands Legendary Collection - A Triple-Helping Of Classic FPS Action

turntSNACO

@Ooccoo_Jr The game is really only as grindy as you want it to be. In BL2, for example, each boss has a unique legendary gun with a low chance of dropping. You could fight them over and over to get every drop (and some people do), but this is in no way necessary.

Think of the "looter" element as this - enemies drop guns and you can buy guns, so you're frequently finding better equipment as you play. Sometimes you'll have something cool and overpowered for a few levels, sometimes not. Fun either way.

Re: Review: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition - An Incredible Action-RPG Stands Strong On Switch

turntSNACO

@gamer89 I'm not going to sit here and argue about the relative quality of a port that neither of us have played.

I will suggest that you treat each reviewer like the individual human being they are, instead of demanding an explanation for why some other reviewer gave a higher score to another game with performance issues. You're acting like NintendoLife is some AI that should run every game through a perfect algorithm that weighs them all evenly. Every reviewer weighs things differently - accept that and you'll be happier.

Re: Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth Will Have A Whopping 27 Pieces Of DLC At Launch

turntSNACO

@Realnoize Haha forgive the tone. I was just surprised how many people were pushing the day one thing. I agree that it's annoying how many editions come out and it sucks when important pieces of the game are held back to be sold separately.

That said, I don't think the guilt by association thing is fair either. Whenever something like this is announced, the go-to response (not yours so much, but you see it a lot in the comments) is to call the devs greedy scum and the game incomplete, regardless of whether either is true. That rush to judgment is what I find frustrating - just because the shady practice exists doesn't mean it applies to all games with dlc.
