First you start a business relationship with Koei Tecmo...😆
I have a lot of respect for Atlus but they've definitely been pretty DLC crazed ever since they started doing it.
I would probably buy one of the extra battle themes, not a huge fan of the regular ones they have in the game.
It’s a shame that didn’t all get integrated into the base game but I expect it will sell well enough given the state of new releases for the 3DS
Honestly, it looks pretty similar to Persona 5’s DLC except without costumes. I didn’t buy a single piece of DLC and absolutely loved it so it’s not like they’re intrusive.
Most of these feel like they should be unlockable in game.
Any game with DLC at launch is a scam.
DLC on day 1 is not add-on, it's not an afterthought, it's something they set aside for you to pay even after paying full price for the game.
Whatever happened to releasing a complete video game?
Not really a fan of day one DLC like this. :/
First they decided to disregard the mountain of people who were hoping for a real Persona game on Switch, then they decide to milk people for extra money on this last 3DS release with content that could have easily been in the game at launch.
Why? Because they know they can get away with it.
Most Atlus 3ds games have dlc. It can all be ignored.
I'm fine with a bit of DLC, but this may be too far, especially considering the price.
Wow, it seems people don't know about the DLC of Persona Q... It's only buying Persona that are exclusively DLC, and can't be unlocked. And you can just summon your first one for free... Which means, it's like pay-to-win. Of course, I'm only interested in the BGM. Even if I have to pay for those, I will! I'm glad that they are still free for the first month like in Japan case, only first-wave
These DLC are not needed at all. The game is good enough to play on it own, and they already existed for Japanese version. It's only Day 1 for us because the 3DS won't get any support later on, so they have to give us now
And the DLC costs more than the game itself for a few inconsequential items that would, in the good old days, be unlockable in-game.
And idiots will continue to support these scummy practices.
It's all a numbers game. They realise the game will only sell a relatively small amount when even Nintendo's 3DS efforts over the last year selling relatively poorly... They are hoping to compensate for this with the DLC..... Even with just a small uptake of the DLC will help ensure this makes them a profit...
It's all cosmetic (Navis, BGM) or making the game easier (Personas, Accessories), there is no need to buy any of it. The BGM, which is 9 themes in total, is free for the first month as well.
I bought one Navi for Persona Q and some battle themes for 5, they added to my experience, but you don't need them for the game.
The sub personas particularly make your party OP at the start, removing any challenge, so not something you should really want to use.
HAHAHA no thanks. Day 1 DLC, what a joke.
First the "Joker from Persona 5" ordeal with Smash when they don't even plan on bringing that game to Switch and instead that mosuo game, and now this. They're certainly going out of their way to make me dislike Persona a ton. GTFO with this bull, Atlus. No way I'm gonna buy this game now.
...This is beyond being ridiculous .....imagine Final Fantasy VIII with GFs sold in DLCs....
I'm sorry, what? We wait a year for the game, don't even get the English voice actors in it, I'm buying the special edition, and Atlus still has the balls to charge for so much DLC?
Eh. None of the DLC in the first game was needed to enjoy the game more, and nothing in the way of substantive content was locked away as DLC (like it was SMTIV/SMTIV:A, for example). Their Persona DLC practices are unfortunate, but you're getting a complete game here, aside from a few OP additions that you probably wouldn't want anyway.
If you want to see a deeply incomplete Persona game without the DLC, try P3/P5 dancing on PS4.
Looking at the list of DLC, you'd be thinking that this is a "freemium" game, giving you the basics for free and asking you to pay for add-ons... but nope. This is a full-blown, full price title...
In a sense, if people are so dumb to pay full price for the game and pay for day-one DLC, then I guess a company would be dumb to not take advantage of that, no? It's almost like "free money". The day people STOP buying this crap is the day developpers will stop acting like this. If developpers are doing it, it's because there are TONS of people forking out precious cash for this.
I'm not really angry towards developpers doing this (ok, maybe a little). My anger is more directed towards all the people who buy into this, which is the sole reason so many developpers resort to these scummy tactics nowadays.
Does the bgm set give you tracks from those games? Cause I’d love to use Mass Destruction
@Anri02 You can actually check the list online. Basically, all the random battle theme of P3,4,5 are included
Wow with people on here claiming the game isn’t “complete” because of optional dlc.
@yamato2706 Nice
Where's the English voice acting DLC?
As much as I dislike DLC like this in general I'll still bite for some of it. I don't care anymore.
@Realnoize @Heavyarms55 @nintendolie Y'all, this game is coming west over 6 months after it launched in Japan. There's no day 1 DLC - it's day 180 DLC.
As it turns out, it takes less time to upload kaguya.jpg than it does to translate all the dialogue in a 40+ hour game. The DLC was finished long before the localization - would it make you feel better if they had sat on it for a few weeks so it wasn't "day one"? Or should we be entitled to get it for free even though Japanese players didn't?
As others have pointed out, most of this stuff is designed to make the game easier (even though these games are well-balanced without them) - they're not essential content! If anything, they have potential to screw up the original intended experience. Just don't buy them. There's already around 225 personas in the game not counting dlc, about 40 more than PQ1. And let's be real - nobody would have complained that the base game needed 15 more to be a "complete game" if not for this announcement. Just don't buy. Problem solved.
I only complete 100% compendium in Persona Q because the 'glitch sub-personas DLC'. I wonder if this game would have glitches like that
Pre-ordered the game, but won't be touching the dlc. Not that I'm angry about though, it's no big deal.
Keep it up and someone will need to steal Atlus's heart
It's the lack of English dub that put me off the game -bc I'm already familiar with those voices on P5-, this I don't think is a big deal.
Is this really day one dlc when the game has been out in Japan for several months? It isn’t like the game just went gold or something.
I don't even care about Persona, yet even I know that the game has been out for a while in Japan and these DLC will have been released in that period. It's not content they just decided to cut out of the Western release.
Some of y'all need to turn your friggin' brains on.
Ridiculous amounts of DLC at ridiculous prices have been Atlus' bread and butter for quite some time, they adopted that business practice heavily around the time Sega bought them. Also friendly reminder the P5 milking has just begun!!
Oh Atlus how the mighy has fallen to the greed of DLC and for a system that usually doesn't welcome this practice too. I guess there's no dev I would trust anymore.
Atlus sure love their DLC ....
Although I will get the P4 music tracks and Izanagi Picaro DLC’s 🤷🏼♂️
@Tao I completely agree with you, but at the same time the fact your avatar is Tao makes this funny.
@Ralizah -and watch most people completely ignore what you're saying cause they wanna bag on the company.
@PBandSmelly Because nearly everything has dlc these days.
Eh, I would be more mad about this, but in a year or 2 this game will be more than 25% off at several intervals. Then the dlc will exist to entice people to spend more because they already got a good deal. Might not be completely true, but that seems to be the trend. I know several games that do this on purpose to have an artificial big discount, but I think Persona Q2 falls more in line with the gradual discounts group.
Awesome, now where's Shin Megami Tensei V gameplay that we've been waiting two years for?
It was the same with Persona 5. Don’t buy it. Just silly stuff for fan boys.
@JR150 Yeah that one will likely be a 2020. Apparently it just went into development when that trailer released in 2017.
@NotTelevision
What?? How do you know that??
@turntSNACO
Woah, woah, woah.... calm down. Have some dip.
The problem I have with this is one of perception. ANY game coming out with a sh!t-ton on DLC on day one LOOKS like a developper trying to cash in on their fans. And even if that's not the case, it still kind of gives the impression that you're paying great money for a game that is sold to you as incomplete, again, even if that's not the case.
Many games nowadays ship in at least two editions. A regular one, priced like the full games we're used to, and a "deluxe" type edition with some bonus DLC, sold for much more (often near or over $100 over here in Canada). Granted, said DLC is often accessory to the main game and completely optional, but what used to be unlocakble in the main game is now paid DLC. Let's not fool ourselves and pretend otherwise. Videgames is big business now, and businesses usually seize any opportunity they can to make more money. This is such an opportunity.
AGAIN, I'm not saying this game fall into the same category. Just that with current trends in gaming, this may look to many as just another example. Even if it's not, this being the norm with so many other publishers now, it'll always strike me (and many others I'm sure) as suspect when it happens with ANY game released.
@JR150 Yeah it was teased in January when the Switch was first announced. That is when development just started. Sorry I had remembered that wrong. When the trailer was revealed in Oct. 2017 it was a bit futher in the development, but not much. It is in an IGN article.
@NotTelevision
Aw man. Some gameplay at the very least would be nice. I'm tired of hearing about Persona when it's just a spin-off of the actual SMT games.
I didn't see anyone complaining when Smash Ultimate had day 1 DLC.
@Realnoize Haha forgive the tone. I was just surprised how many people were pushing the day one thing. I agree that it's annoying how many editions come out and it sucks when important pieces of the game are held back to be sold separately.
That said, I don't think the guilt by association thing is fair either. Whenever something like this is announced, the go-to response (not yours so much, but you see it a lot in the comments) is to call the devs greedy scum and the game incomplete, regardless of whether either is true. That rush to judgment is what I find frustrating - just because the shady practice exists doesn't mean it applies to all games with dlc.
I bet most of the people complaining never tried PQ1's DLC, because if they did, they'd know this is literally nothing to complain about. These are just balance destroying cheats.
This doesn’t make me any less excited for the game.
I’m not really tempted by the DLC. I’d love a good 3DS theme though. The Persona Q one is a little disappointing in my opinion.
Gotta recoup the costs of the western localization in some way...
"Navi: Justine & Caroline - $2.99"
Well that's too bad, i was hoping at least this one would be included in the game since Q2 is more centered around P5.
Since i'm in a tight budget will just settle with the base game.
@Tokiwa All that is, is having their voices during exploration and battle. Pretty sure they are in the game.
Edit: I confirmed they are in the game
@Anri02 Yeah i know, i actually wanted the navi voices
I know Q1 had the same type DLC but i was still hoping wouldn't be the case for the twins in Q2.
Damn.. it's like $50 for all that dlc.. same
Cost as the game. I love that these days when you buy a game you don't get all of it
@turntSNACO
Well, one of the thing I see which is still frustrating these days, is that even if the content sold as DLC is entirely optional, most of that optional stuff, in the past, was available in games simply through unlocking. Which, in a sense, make the current devs and/or publisher look bad by repurposing stuff that traditionnaly was provided as freebies, into paid add-ons.
Now, that being said, I can understand things are complicated when ports and localizations of previously released games are concerned. Most of the additionnal content could've very well been made after the initial release, and this raises the question of what do you do as a company with all of that DLC in light of a re-release in another territory... Personnaly, I'm more enclined to say a company should wait a bit, even if the content is already done, because like I mentionned previoulsy, this gives a bad IMPRESSION having all of this available on day 1.
It is not as much "guilt by association" than exposure to the fact that if this stuff is "optional or inconsequential" to the main game, selling it for a price says it has value, which kinds of contradict (slightly) the idea. And having so much of it available on Day 1, even if we know the reason why, is still contributing to the idea that there are elements of the game you feel you'll be missing out on.
It's mostly, to me, a question of timing. As with anything, the first impression you give is often the most important. I remember many games with horrible cover art that were very good (if sometimes not stellar) and ended up not selling well. Anything that contributes to giving a bad first impression should be avoided, IMO.
Thats a no buy for me
