The 3DS eshop update really encapsulates the state of the 3DS is 2018. One epic but somewhat niche JRPG from Atlas and one dirt-cheap puzzle(?) game whose name sounds like it was made up by a 4-year-old.
@Moroboshi876 I get what you're saying, but I really don't think it's that people in general feel owed a VC. It's more that Nintendo has done it well before, so it's disappointing to hear they may not bring a huge library to their most popular system.
People do want GC games, but also SNES, GBA, N64, etc. Buying all of those and all the cartridges you want would get massively expensive and take up tons of space. Some people are into that kind of collecting, but most would rather play $10 to get a classic game on the sleek new system they already own
It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. If they do add games from more systems early and often, who cares whether they use the VC banner? If not, they're leaving a bunch of money on the table. The Switch is so many people's preferred way to play cross-platform games already, I imagine a lot of folks relying on emulation would be willing to spend a few bucks a year to get official copies on their portable machine.
If classic Nintendo fans' only options are to either buy a Wii U in 2018 or download a bunch of free roms, I think I know which way they'll go...
Yikes. Was an easy Switch purchase for me, now it'll have to be PS4. This is pretty much the worst-case scenario for a delay - losing sales it had in the bag for good.
I don't get why they feel they don't have to compete with other consoles. On PS4, I can get Bloodborne or Witcher 3 for $20 during a sale, which happens on nearly a monthly basis. Then I check the eshop and see Captain Toad for like $47.50 when the rare sale happens. I also got a bunch of gold points from digital purchases which...I can use to save 30% on one 25-year-old game of Nintendo's choosing?
Plus PS+ gives as many as 6 games per month if you have all their consoles. The discussion around Nintendo's service is that maybe you'll get one NES or SNES game that you borrow for a month and lose? Are they not paying attention or do they not care? The presentation last week was a great chance to show that Nintendo was giving a good value along with a good product. With no pack-in titles, why not include some virtual console items? Give up some copies of Super Mario World or something to buy yourself some much needed good will.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Details Of Nintendo Switch Online
If this is how they do VC, and they support it like they did on Wii U, I'm on board.
