E3 may be skipping 2020, but other bodies are stepping up to fill the summer video game vacuum. There's Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest, which will be delivering news and announcements throughout a four-month window, but there's also a new Expo in town, and it's got some big names attached.
NGPX, or New Game+ Expo is a digital presentation that will showcase "dozens" of games, including "new title announcements and live gameplay demos" according to the press release. It's coming on 23rd June with a 7-hour-long livestream broadcast exclusively on Twitch (trailers, highlights and the full stream up on YouTube after the livestream finishes).
NGPX is a collaboration of 14 publishers from Japan and North America, including AKSYS Games, Inti Creates, KOEI TECMO, Natsume, NIS America, SEGA, WayForward and more - see the full lineup below:
Here's a little more flavour from the official blurb, including quotes from the Sega of America's president and Grasshopper Manufacture's SUDA51:
"New Game+ Expo is a grassroots coalition of publishers and developers,” said Adam Johnson, producer of NGPX. “Organizing together for the first time, we hope fans have fun as we take a look at the combined upcoming lineup of games for 2020 and beyond!"
“COVID-19 has brought with it many challenges, but also an opportunity to come together as a bold collective of publishers. SEGA is delighted to announce its participation in New Game+ Expo, a new digital tentpole summer event of 14 publishers, joining forces to create a one-of-a-kind showcase event that unifies a special slice of the video game industry,” said Ian Curran, COO and President of Sega of America.
“Congratulations to NGPX! As a gamer myself, I’m incredibly excited to see what will be on display,” said SUDA51, CEO of GRASSHOPPER MANUFACTURE. “We must never doubt the power that video games bring to gamers offering us vitality and energy for tomorrow. Let’s get charged up while staying at home!”
The event starts at 8 AM PDT (so that's 4 PM in the UK, or 5 PM in Central Europe) with a live broadcast running from 9 AM to 4 PM PDT (5 PM - 12 AM BST / 6 PM - 1 AM CEST) and will feature "first looks, Q&A, and more".

I expect the floodgates for the visual novel genre to break open.
I actually thought this was a Japanese event at first.
Hopefully we get persona 4 gold on switch!
IntiCreates?! Oh man I hope this is going to bring some new Blaster Master news!
The here’s lots of gaming events this year replacing E3 but they all have 1 problem... Nintendo hasn’t been included in any of them yet!
That's a solid line-up of devs!
I wonder if Squaresoft regret not trademarking the term New Game Plus?
Pass. Solid lineup, but I don't support Amazon (who own Twitch) and REFUSE to sit through 7 hours of visual novels, pervy fighting games and weird JRPGs all just for one Sonic trailer, a Yakuza 7 date and maybe a Persona 5 port.
Persona 5 Switch. Persona 5 Switch! PERSONA 5 SWITCH! Please Atlus, please
Hopefully Sega got something by that time. So far they are announcing announcement and nothing else.
So how about that Shin Megami Tensei 5? Hmm, Atlus? That game better be there or I will write an angry comment, maybe even two.
I want a Sonic 30th anniversary game with an adventure-style gameplay, time travel, two new hedgehogs, maybe male and female siblings (which will be Sonic’s future children) and A new male echidna (Which will be Knuckles’ future son)
That’s a really great lineup of devs. Will definitely keep an eye out for this one.
Nintendo pls f buy Grasshopper manufacturers already from whoever owning them....
Blue & orange looks like a US pharmaceutical ad. Still, bring on cool game announcements!
@mesome713 Please stop being so negative. Just because Nintendo isn't at the event doesn't mean it will be a bad event. Furthermore, Nintendo have no hand whatsoever in the development of SMT5, so Atlus can reveal it whenever they want.
I'll take literally any Switch announcement from Atlus. Phantom Strikers localization, Persona 3/4/5 port, SMT5, an SMT spin-off, Etrian Odyssey, Trauma Center. It's crazy how little they're done on Switch after supporting 3DS so heavily for years. Here's hoping Catherine was the first of many games incoming.
Atlus will announce Shin Megami Tensei 6.
@Matthew010 I know they can, but Nintendo has a way bigger platform to announce games on. And I just don't play any games from any of these companies, so I have no interest. These companies aren't very popular other than Sonic, which isn't too big anymore.
And thanks for removing the person's comment who insulted me. It's about time people get in trouble for insulting users.
Atlus is most likely just an official announcement of P5 Scramble coming west though I would really really like an update on SMT V
@mesome713 Can I just ask, why are you commenting here if you have no interest at all? That would be the reason people are insulting you - you sometimes come across as a troll.
@Matthew010 I wanted to see who was doing the event and let the event know my opinion on its lineup. I know I may come off as a troll, but that's no reason for people to insult others, I have never insulted anyone nor violated the sites ToS. Yet users still attack me all the time with insults.
@mesome713 I doubt the event organisers check Nintendo Life.
@Kreko Some comments were linked to a potentially argumentative post which was deleted, so it didn't make sense to keep the other posts up as well.
@Matthew010 They should, all companies should listen to feedback.
I hope Sega reveal the next Ages Lineup, featuring Daytona, Sega Rally, Golden Axe, Power Drift, Super Monaco GP, Turbo Outrun, Afterburner 2, Virtua Fighter 2, Shenmue, Chu Chu Rocket, Ferrari F355,
For the love of demons, pray there's an update about SMT V!
Considering both Atlus and Koei Tecmo are here, we may be getting an anouncment for a western release of Persona 5 Scramble. Also a port of Persona 4 Golden for the Switch would be nice too.
Loving how Japanese centric it is! If Bandai Namco, Capcom, & Square Enix signed on I probably wouldn't need any other events.
It'd be nice if Nintendo & Sony signed on too, but since they host their own events (even if Directs are on hold at the moment) I don't expect it.
Persona 4 Golden
Persona 5 Scramble
Persona 5 Royal
Shin Megami Tensei V
Sonic Adventure 3
Nice, what about some news about SMTV at last, and a proper trailer (and release date?) of No More Heroes 3?
Really solid lineup of publishers and developers. Really digging how it's mostly Japanese focused too.
As always, hoping for the first full reveal for SMT V, not expecting it though.
@mesome713 Yes but the event organisers are more likely to check their official channels rather than external sites. Plus, the organisers might have approached other publishers, but the publishers themselves might have said no.
@Matthew010 That's fine if they don't check all peoples opinions. It's hard to do. But thankfully Nintendolife gives us an amazing platform to voice our opinions for encase they do.
Sad if others might have turned it down. Some heavy hitters would have been some big help for the event. Would have love to seen From Software, Capcom, EA, or Epic.
@mesome713 Sonic's still decently big, but the franchise has been quiet since the movie came out-a new game announcement and some spin-offs will get people talking. Otherwise, I agree, some of these companies have always been lesser known, or faded away after a while without big releases.
Spike and Atlus are the two I personally debate about. Spike had Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX recently, but... well, it was a while before I discovered Mystery Dungeon was its own series. Danganronpa was pretty much their flagship for a while and it's been finished for a few years. As for Atlus, people only know about Persona 5 right now, and I get the feeling Persona fans are going to see it as the Persona 4 of their day eventually.
@Matthew010 he comes into each article, checks how the ground lies in terms of comments then deliberately says something to the contrary hoping for a reaction. People take the bait, troll wins. Dude doesn’t give a damn about Nintendo. 2/10 level trolling. you should check his ip address as I wouldn’t be surprised if it was an existing poster.
@Andrew5678 Yeah, sorry about that, my comment stated that about Sonic being the only big one, but mod deleted my comment cause someone was trying to argue my opinion from me.
And as I stated in another deleted comment for same reason, I can't wait to see what games they announce by checking Nintendolife, just not interested enough to watch such a long event.
Hopefully Switch gets a bunch of new games announced for everyone. Would be sweet.
I love you atlus but if you don't give a update on any 5 I will probably throw a bigger tantrum than a 5 year old
@mesome713 I can understand that. Other than Nintendo Directs, it's rare for me to catch any livestreams for news. Assuming I do hear about it beforehand, I'm rarely interested in the offerings as a whole, and just hear about what I'm interested in later on.
Personally I'm hoping SNK show off the new King of Fighters. I'm hoping they take a stylised approach, like they did with Sam Sho. Oh and rollback Netcode and crossplay would be awesome
Great, this i the E3 replacement i'll pay attention to, all the great stuff in one place (well, and probably some VNs which i don't care about, but it's still bound to be a million times better then Geoff's event with the cookie cutter developers).
I hope we'll finally get some proper No More Heroes 3 gameplay from Grasshopper.
Also, i'm pretty sure SNK will show King of Fighters XV and maybe even a new Metal Slug.
@RPGamer Perhaps this is what we've been waiting for.
I am not really a Twitch fan but I was interested until I saw 7 hours.
Edit: But who knows this could become the next thing as E3 is becoming a sad shell of its former self. If I am not coding I will watch some of it.
Arc System Works?
Please be Nanostray/assault or Fast.
@HarryHyruleHero STFU and buy a PS4 instead of begging or complaining about a port
Can't wait for VVVTunia news though
I'm guessing it's wishful thinking to suppose that we might even get a quick peek at Shin Megami Tensei V.
Well, whatever. I'll watch with no expectations, as I usually try to do.
@RPGamer What news on Shantae are you hoping for? The new game will be out at the end of May. WayForward takes their time with these games, so I'd be surprised to see another new Shantae game on the Switch.
Sega, Atlus and KT would suggest we should get some new on something Persona related. P5S western release date has to be one of them!
@RPGamer Thanks, I tend to think of him as an enigmatic and fascinating character more so than a superfood.
Pretty much all my favourite 3rd party developers. This will be more exciting for me than a Nintendo presentation!
@RPGamer already expressed the hype better!
@BigGaeTristan Why should I pay >£200 to play a game? Why shouldn't I want to play said game wherever I go?
@RPGamer Let's assume for a second that mesome713 is a troll. By publically stating that you think they are a troll, you're giving them the attention they want. If you think someone is trolling, simply report them using the 'Report' button and we'll take a look.
This is pretty cool. We're getting a good amount of June gaming coverage anyway. It can't quite replace E3, but it certainly is going to fill part of that big void.
Hopefully @nintendolife will be helping us keep track of the schedule of this myriad of events as they do with E3, since it's a bit chaotic with a bunch of different events at different times with much less predictable schedules than E3!
Though I must say, I thought it was just so impossible during this time for companies to have Directs due to all that video work involved. So far it seems like Nintendo is the only one with that particular problem...let alone not collaborating with OTHER organizations during this time to do it. Sony is radio silent because they want to be. Nintendo is radio silent because they want to be. The rest of the industry seems to have no problem finding ways to communicate with their audience beyond posting to twitter in their pajamas.
Sega still does what Nintendon't.
@NEStalgia we've added a widget on the homepage with upcoming events we'll update it as new events get announced.
@PickledKong64 Atlus West is only in charge of localized games that has been released in Japan recently. I doubt they would able to announce an Switch port for Persona 4 or Persona 5 Royal.
@Joker1234 good to know. Shows what I know lol
