Re: Corpse Party Tetralogy Pack Switch Western Release Cancelled

@calbeau You're defending Nintendo banning all these games and claiming that anyone against it is not a "decent person," so yes, I'll challenge you on that.

The problem with "saving the children," is you can brand anything in the name of that to claim moral high ground to ban whatever you want, even if it has nothing to do with saving any actual children.

I gave you a very short video of an entire game that Nintendo banned in the name of "saving the children." So I ask you yet again, can you kindly point me to the specific content in that game that is so morally reprehensible, more so than full frontal nudity in Cyberpunk, that it is worthy of being banned from sale in the US?

Has it ever occurred to you that such broad policies can result in games being incorrectly banned?

I think as long as a game gets rated by the ESRB (and doesn't get an AO rating), it should have no problem releasing on consoles. We don't need an extra layer of Karens at NoA to police the games we play.

Re: Corpse Party Tetralogy Pack Switch Western Release Cancelled

@calbeau I was really looking forward to a bullet hell shmup called Redneg Allstars that got banned due to Nintendo's stupid new policy.

Here's a 1cc of Redneg Allstars (in case you're unfamiliar with shmup terminology, a 1cc is a complete play through of the game with no continues). The run is only 28 minutes. Since you're so pro-censorship in the name of "saving the children," can you please point me to the ban-worthy content?

The most "questionable" thing I could find is one of the bosses has absurdly large boobs and shows some cleavage. Though she definitely looks like a woman over the age of 18. Sure, you could say her design looks kinda dumb with the proportions being that outta whack, but is that really ban-worthy? Is this really more offensive than genital customization in Cyberpunk? Personally, I find the latter significantly more offensive.

Re: Corpse Party Tetralogy Pack Switch Western Release Cancelled

@Kawaiipikachu Mugen Souls was released in April 2023. The first occurrence of Nintendo banning a game due to their new content guidelines that I'm aware of is Redneg Allstars, which came to light in December 2024 (Nintendo Life article). What this means is Nintendo changed their content guidelines sometime between 2023 and 2024. Fortunately, it appears that older games are grandfathered in, so Nintendo isn't removing games that previously passed certification under the old rules.

And check this out, someone on X posted a screenshot from a Discord conversation with an EastAsiaSoft employee flat-out confirming that Nintendo's content guidelines changed and their old releases like Mugen Souls would almost certainly not be approved if they were released today.

NoA has been invaded by activist Karens within the last year that feel compelled to police what games we're allowed to play. Just let the damn ratings boards do their jobs!

Off the top of my head, this new policy from Nintendo has resulted in the following games being banned in the US:

*Redneg Allstars
*Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1, 2, and 3
*Death end re:Quest: Code Z
*Tokyo Clanpool
*Maiden Cops
*Brave x Junction

Several of these games are already available on PlayStation and rated T for Teen! Yet the morons at NoA think these games are too "problematic" for their audience! And at the same time, they turn a blind eye to all the AI "hentai" garbage polluting the eShop.

I pray for layoffs at NoA. The current leadership needs to be purged.

@Pillowpants LMAO, that's the 2nd time I've been accused of having a connection to Anti-Matter. 1st accusation was that I was his alt, but I like your theory better. 🤣

Ngl, I totally copied the Q&A format from him. Mostly because people would get on my case for being off-topic, so the Q&A format makes it abundantly clear that I'm, in fact, on-topic. Honestly, it's a really clever trick that I have to give him full credit for.

Unfortunately, I don't like Bluey enough to be Anti-Matter's little brother. And I also play some M-rated games. But I'm glad you got the little reference to his posting style!

Re: Pokémon Pokopia Is Seemingly Nintendo's First Game-Key Card Release

topsekret

@Bats1234 Two points:

1. Silksong was a $20 game. Pokopia is a $70 game. A $20 digital-only game is a much easier pill to swallow than a $70 digital-only game. If you're gonna charge AAA prices, then you damn well better make sure the data is on the physical cartridge.

2. The physical fans know that Silksong will eventually get a physical release, just like the original Hollow Knight. In fact, the hardcore collectors are happy that the physical release is later, that way you guys can beta test the game for us, and then we'll have a more polished version of the game preserved in physical form.

Re: Pokémon Pokopia Is Seemingly Nintendo's First Game-Key Card Release

topsekret

I have absolutely no interest in the garbage that is modern Pokemon. And this boring "cozy" game isn't gonna change my mind.

But even if I don't care about this specific game, I don't like the precedent this sets. Since it's Pokemon, it's guaranteed to sell no matter what. Then Nintendo will see that and think, "huh, we were able to sell a GKC for $70 and we made so much more money, let's keep pushing the boundaries to see what we can get away with."

It's a classic case of slowly increasing the temperature of the water to boil a frog alive. We're going to see more GKCs going forward, not less. If they put the new Fire Emblem on a GKC, I'm officially done with Nintendo.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 System Update 21.0.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

topsekret

As always, the most exciting thing for me will be any backwards compatibility fixes, but we'll probably have to wait a couple days for people to identify them.

Looks like this system update fixed the issue with Tokyo Xanadu as it is now listed as having consistent behavior on Switch 2 as of 11/11/2025. Interestingly, this is one of the games that many people online insist did not actually have any issues, but nonetheless, I'm thankful that Nintendo did fix whatever issue they discovered.

Xenoblade X is also now listed as fully supported as of 11/11/2025. I think that one had issues with voices getting out of sync?

Re: How Are You Finding Switch Game And App Compatibility On The Switch 2?

topsekret

I'm happy that a lot of games run better on Switch 2 than Switch 1.

But I'm disappointed with the games that have bugs unique to Switch 2 and with how Nintendo is handling that.

1. Nintendo does not publicly acknowledge games that are known to have issues on Switch 2. For example, several members on this site have documented how prerendered videos in the Crossbell duology (Trails series) don't play.

I've also personally noticed some minor graphical issues in a handful of games. For example, upside down textures on certain elements in Guilty Gear Strive and Enter the Gungeon. Or graphical artifacts when using the CRT filter in Super Hydorah. And this is in just the handful of Switch 1 games I've played on Switch 2 since launch. I'm sure there's more if you look for them. Which leads me to...

2. There's no official way for players to report bugs. Obviously it's gonna be difficult for Nintendo's QA to find all the issues with so many games to test. So why not rely on the passionate community to help you identity issues?

3. When they do acknowledge an issue, most of the time, the description on their site is incredibly vague, like just "progression issue," sometimes causing people to even question if there's an issue at all just cause they haven't personally encountered it.

4. There isn't a master list of every game with issues. For people with large collections, this would be easier to check than to type in each game one at a time. It also makes it difficult to know the full scope of games with issues. For example, someone mentioned in the comments on this article that Tales of Symphonia has issues. Looks like that was discovered on Nov. 4, but you'd never know to just randomly check an individual game's eShop page to see if there's been a new issue discovered. It would be easier if we could just get a list of games with issues and sort by date discovered.

Though to handle this last point, I'm working on my own app to scrub this info from Nintendo's website and display it in a table.

As for specific games, beyond the ones I mentioned earlier, I'm also still waiting for fixes for:
*Strania
*Raiden III
*Raiden IV
*Nier
*Chrono Cross

I'm sure there's more, but I'll get back with you after I've finish my app.

Re: Nintendo's Black Friday Offers Include Deals On Switch 1 Games, amiibo, And More

@shoeses Could also just be a bid to entice more people to subscribe to NSO for an online-centric game. Assuming Splatoon Raiders launches in 2026, I think that would preclude a Splatoon 4 from happening till 2027 at the earliest. If Splatoon 4 releases in 2027, that would make the wait between 3 and 4 about the same as the wait between Splatoon 2 and 3 (5 years).

Re: One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 - Switch 2 Edition Announced, Includes Free Upgrade For Switch Owners

@TerribleTerabytes Yeah man, Arlong Park is soooo good! It's the arc that really sold me on the show.

I had a buddy that had been trying to convince me to watch One Piece, but the length deterred me from giving it a chance. About 2 years later, my brother started watching it, but he watches a lot of stuff off and on so it didn't really register. Then one day I overhead while he was watching the Baratie arc, and it sounded interesting (I think it was the episode with Gin and the poisonous gas), so I figured I'd sit in and watch for a bit since my buddy recommended it. Even without all the proper context, it managed to hook me just on the tail end of that arc. But then that cliffhanger with Nami really intrigued us, and we ended up binge watching the entire Arlong Park arc that weekend. After experiencing all the twists and emotions in that arc, that's when I knew I was in it for the long haul, so I went back and watched the beginning. Since then, I've been watching it regularly with my brother.

We even managed to get our sister and mom to watch One Piece as well! It a wonderful story that I think can resonate with a lot of people. Due to rewatches with family members, I've now seen most of the show 3 times lol. But even rewatches are fun cause there's a lot of subtle detail and foreshadowing that you don't really pick up on your first watch.

But you got the right mindset: it's the journey that matters, not the destination. Just savor your time with the world and its characters!

Re: Nintendo Launches Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility Search Page

topsekret

Tested the website a bit. It's a little bit faster than searching the store pages on Nintendo.com.

But what I really want is just central, dynamic list of each game with issues.

Since Nintendo's not doing this, I decided to make an app to scrub their website and get this info myself. I haven't had much time to work on it, but I got the basic functionality working: I can pass in a URL for a game, and the app will download the webpage and parse the HTML & JSON to extract the backwards compatibility info for the given game. Now I just gotta do it in bulk. I'll probably start with just the list of games in my collection (from Deku Deals, which can export as a CSV or JSON).

Re: Nintendo Launches Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility Search Page

topsekret

@NicolausCamp I'm really surprised they didn't prioritize fixing Strania considering how new it is (released last January). I'm hoping that gets fixed soon along with Raiden III & IV.

I'd also say I hope they fix the issues causing pre-rendered videos to not play in the Crossbell duology (Trails series), but I doubt that'll ever happen since Nintendo is unaware of the issue.

Oh, pro-tip. I'm not sure how much you've been able to stay spoiler-free (probably pretty hard nowadays for certain things) but, uh, don't watch the 3rd intro until after you finish the story arc where they start using it!

Re: Switch 2 Has The Largest Third-Party Software Lineup Ever For New Nintendo Hardware

topsekret

@MonsterMike Depends on what you value in physical games. If all you want is a box to put on your shelf, then yeah, it's a non-issue.

For me, and many other physical fans, the most import thing is having the actual game on the physical storage medium so we are not dependent on an external server (which is bound to shut down in the future) to play our games.

And another perk with Nintendo's physical games is you can actually run the game directly from the physical storage medium (unlike PS5, where you need to install games to a secondary storage medium). This makes it so you don't need to worry nearly as much about managing digital storage space. And when you wanna play a new game, you can just pop it in and play (though some games may still have some small patches to download, but it's a far cry from having to wait to install a 50 GB game).

Re: Switch 2 Has The Largest Third-Party Software Lineup Ever For New Nintendo Hardware

topsekret

@SillyG Yeah, I think you made the right call to wait.

I knew what we were in for the moment Nintendo announced the existence of GKCs, but I kinda let myself get swept up in the hype and FOMO anyways. And I allowed myself to believe some of the copium floating around at the time that maybe all the GKCs at launch were just due to a timing thing with devs not having builds ready to be printed on cartridges. Or maybe full priced $70 games will at least be on real cartridges. Or maybe Nintendo will help subsidize cartridge costs for prestigious 3rd party games like FFVII Remake, or Persona 3 Reload, or Elden Ring (some people were theorizing they did this with Cyberpunk). But the last two Directs made it abundantly clear that nearly every 3rd party game will be on a GKC. GKCs/digital are the future for Nintendo's ecosystem.

I'm not necessarily disappointed I got a Switch 2, it is nice that it fixes a lot of performance issues in Switch 1 games (like you said, that's probably the best feature). But considering most of the games I've been playing on it recently are Switch 1 games (that actually ran fine on Switch 1), I think I probably could have waited.

The one silver lining is that Nintendo basically cured my game purchasing addiction with GKCs. Well, maybe not "cured," but put a cap on it. I'm still buying Switch 1 physical games, but eventually those will stop being made, and then the only games to buy on Switch 2 will be first party games, with maybe the odd 3rd party true physical here and there. So I'll save a lot of money, and now I can focus on enjoying my massive Switch 1 backlog.

Re: Switch 2 Has The Largest Third-Party Software Lineup Ever For New Nintendo Hardware

topsekret

@kmtrain83 Hey, thanks for the question! I have yet to buy any GKCs and I don't see that ever changing.

It's funny, cause I did buy a couple partial physical releases back on Switch. For example, I bought the Resident Evil Revelations Collection, which had Revelations 1 on the cartridge and a download code for 2. Didn't get it at full price, though (I think I got it for $25 - $30?). But since it at least came with 1 game on the cartridge, it was a bit more palatable since I could view it as I'm paying the price to get 1 game on the cartridge and it comes with a free download for the other. And also on Switch 1, these sorts of partial physical releases were the exception, not the rule, so it didn't feel as bad to get one every now and then. And for some of them, we even had the option to import a true physical version from another region (like the Southeast Asia version of FFX/X-2).

But with GKCs on Switch 2, they are just 100% download. There's no saving grace of, "oh, well at least I get 1 of the games in the collection on the cartridge." And now they are way more prevalent: like 90% of 3rd party "physical" games are on GKCs. So it feels like Nintendo and 3rd parties are trying to strong-arm everyone to digital, which emboldens me to draw a hard line in the sand to refuse to support it at all.

Re: Switch 2 Has The Largest Third-Party Software Lineup Ever For New Nintendo Hardware

topsekret

While it may be the biggest 3rd party lineup for Nintendo ever, it sure doesn't feel like it to me with how few of the games actually have real physical releases.

I was an absolute whale when it came to buying 3rd party games on Switch 1. Back before that April Switch 2 blowout Direct, I was getting hyped to go all in on Switch 2. But GKCs really killed all desire I have to buy 3rd party games on Switch 2, and lowered my enthusiasm for the console in general. Now it just feels like a Switch Pro that has some new exclusive Nintendo games and the occasional 3rd party game here and there (like Wii U).

But I'm sure it's a great generation for all the digital players out there.

Re: Raidou Remastered Is Getting A Free Demo On Switch & Switch 2

topsekret

@Solid_Python You're looking at it the wrong way. As a Switch 2 owner, you can purchase either the Switch 1 or Switch 2 version. By not offering a demo for the Switch 1 version, they are gently nudging you towards the Switch 2 version (especially when the save data for the demo will only transfer over to the Switch 2 version).

The sooner they can get people to switch over to buying Switch 2 versions instead of the Switch 1 versions, the sooner they can stop making Switch 1 versions entirely. This saves them money since they no longer have to make a dedicated Switch 1 port, and GKCs are likely cheaper than the larger Switch 1 cartridges (this game is on a 16 GB Switch 1 cartridge).

Re: Raidou Remastered Is Getting A Free Demo On Switch & Switch 2

topsekret

I still haven't picked this up cause I'm waiting for the physical Switch 1 version to go down to at least $25. I want to minimize my support of Sega/Atlus since they cheaped out with a GKC for the Switch 2 version and don't even have an upgrade path for the Switch 1 version.

@TheExile285 I'm curious about this as well. If true, it seems like an intentional play to steer people in the direction of the digital/GKC Switch 2 version.

No, since they are on GKCs, I will not purchase them. The very large download sizes further reinforce my choice.

How many times do you think we can say Kiwami?

Answer
As many times as you want.

Re: Resident Evil Pro Controller Is Available To Pre-Order, But Its Price Is Terrifying

topsekret

@DTFaux One thing to keep in mind is that during the Switch days, special edition Pro Controllers were only $5 more than the normal one. Now they're apparently $10 more. Nintendo's really trying to squeeze every bit of cash they can from us.

I get the price for the Switch 2 Pro Controller being higher than the Switch 1 Pro Controller, cause it's a better controller with more features. But why are they charging twice as much for a decal on the plastic?

As others have said, this design looks particularly bad with how the Switch 2 logo masks out the middle of the Resident Evil logo.

Re: Opinion: Animal Crossing On Switch 2 Has Me Equal Parts Buzzing And Baffled

topsekret

@SpaceboyScreams Yeah, I think that would make sense if the limiting factor was just number of players. They've been doing that for split screen in Mario Kart games for years (60 FPS for 1-2 players, and 30 FPS for 3-4 players)!

Though if island complexity is a key limiting factor as well, it would be less straightforward as that is a dynamic unpredictable factor.

Though it also kinda begs the question why not at least have a 40 FPS option? Theoretically possible now that the Switch 2 has a 120 Hz screen, though for docked play, you'd need a 120 Hz TV. VRR would have also been an option, but that would only work for handheld (still upset Switch 2 doesn't support VRR in docked mode). Maybe they just figured since VRR doesn't work for docked, and they can't guarantee users will have a 120 Hz TV, they'd just aim for a rock solid 30 FPS in all modes of play? Could also be the case that even 40 FPS at 4K was too taxing for Switch 2 for this game in the worst-case scenarios.

Re: PSA: Don't Expect Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition To Include The DLC

topsekret

@Aki77 I mean, after them not including the DLC for BotW and now this, I think it's clear that going forward, Nintendo will not be including the DLC in these Switch 1 to Switch 2 ports. So while we probably shouldn't expect it, I don't think that means we can't complain about it when they did offer the DLC as part of the package for their Wii U to Switch ports.

But see my comment to the other user regarding the impact this has on new players and physical collectors. I agree that it's not an issue for people outside of those groups.

Re: PSA: Don't Expect Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition To Include The DLC

topsekret

@Res462 It comes across as arrogant to me since in the Switch generation when they we're trying to win back good will after the bomb of the Wii U they'd do a lot more generous things for consumers, like including all the old DLC in their Wii U ports.

So it feels like arrogance to me since they think that coming off the success of Switch, they cannot fail and can get away with whatever they want.

If you don't get that vibe from them, that's fine, I don't really feel the need to change your opinion. Just wanna explain where I was coming from a little better for mine.

Re: PSA: Don't Expect Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition To Include The DLC

topsekret

@FernandoMachado I'm looking at this from the perspective of new players and physical collectors. Yes, the Wii U ports were full price ports on Switch, but Nintendo at least included the DLC on the cartridge. So new players could get the full experience from Wii U for cheaper on Switch. And collectors could have the DLC preserved on a physical medium.

Now the DLC is not preserved on a physical medium. And new players are expected to pay extrafor the old DLC making it more expensive for newcomers to get the complete package for these Switch 2 Switch 1 ports compared to the Switch 1 Wii U ports.

But I acknowledge that it is nice that returning players who already own the base game and DLC and who don't mind digital can simply purchase a Switch 2 Upgrade Pack. (Though IMO, technical upgrades should be free, but that's a bit of a separate conversation.)

Re: Opinion: Animal Crossing On Switch 2 Has Me Equal Parts Buzzing And Baffled

topsekret

@GetontheStiix I feel like you should at least have an informed opinion if you're going to write a comment calling out other people for uninformed opinions.

"Doubling the frame rate based on Animal Crossings code would effectively double the speed of the day/night cycle basically destroying the game."

Depends on how it was coded. If it was coded by idiots, yes, there could be issues. However, the industry as a whole has moved past this issue. Everyone knows not to tie game logic to frame rate now. In fact, this same development team recently bumped the frame rate in the Splatoon 3 hub areas up from 30 FPS to 60 FPS on Switch 2. I think they know what they're doing.

And even if they did tie game logic to the frame rate, it is a solvable problem, and one we could reasonably expect them to invest in solving if they are charging us money for a technical upgrade.

Also, in the case of the day-night cycle specifically, I doubt that has anything to do with frames or even delta time. They probably just poll the system time directly each frame. This is something that would literally be harder to code the wrong way than the right way lol.

"it would also make crossplay between the platforms(switch 1/2) impossible."

Umm...no? Plenty of cross play games have lower frame rate on Switch 1 compared to other platforms and the cross play works just fine. (Fortnite, Overwatch, Apex Legends, etc...)

Probably the real reason for this update not adding 60 FPS is that the Switch 2 isn't powerful enough to run this at 4k and 60 FPS consistently in all scenarios (ex: 12 players online on a very dense island). So given that this isn't an action game, they chose to prioritize resolution over frame rate (which makes sense).
