Re: Epic's Apple Lawsuit Could Have "Significant And Serious Ramifications" For Platform Holders Like Nintendo

tkdboy1889

Not a fan of Apple in the slightest (I find their products to be overhyped and overpriced), but I tilt my head at anyone trying to support Epic. It's a simple case really: Epic wanted to circumvent the Apple TOS so that they kept 100% of the profits while using Apple's platforms. Tim Sweeny isn't doing this for the benefit of the gaming community, he's doing it because he wants to make Epic more cash.

Tim Sweeney is scum because he tries to cover up unethical business practices as a moral cause for the good of the industry. Epic exclusives don't add value to the Epic Store, they DEVALUE other platforms because most of the time they are titles that were going to come to all digital storefronts until Epic through cash their way. Same thing here; Tim Sweeny is basically arguing that he should be able to utilize the ios app freely and not pay Apple anything, and trying to spin that as some sort of white-knight motive. Epic is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Re: Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase To Air Tomorrow

I honestly feel like these 3rd party Directs are a good thing because it prevents potentially good 3rd party support from being overshadowed by any 1st party announcements. If you put something like Bravely Default 2 in the same video as a MP4 update, it'd be completely overlooked.

Hopefully the more entitled side of the Nintendo fanbase, including some people here, will just keep expectations in check and not expect 5 new AAA-budget releases to be announced.

Re: Soapbox: There's No Shame In Playing On Easy, Even If You're A Pro

tkdboy1889

People arguing that those who like easy mode are better served by mediums like film/books/television are missing a very crucial point: interaction.

To paraphrase Rob from Playstation Access. "With other forms of media, you get to see what you otherwise couldn't. With games, you get to BE what you otherwise couldn't."

A key aspect of gaming is that it gives you control, and you influence what happens. That boss didn't fall over because the game was prerendered to have the hero defeat him, you controlled the hero and caused that to happen. You don't get that from movies or books.

As for the author's point, I concur. As someone who switches between normal and hard depending on genre and how much time I've got, I can't stand those who look down about those that play on lower difficulty settings. Play the way you want, let others play how they want. It has no effect on you. Developers are not obligated to put an easy mode in their game, but if they decide to then it all comes down to the experience you want. Want to feel the thrill of challenge? Go for it. Want to feel like an unstoppable God on easy? Have at it.

Re: PlatinumGames Addresses Wonderful 101 Kickstarter Custom Fees, And Backers Aren't Happy

tkdboy1889

And to think that any issues would've been avoided if people had common sense and said "No, I don't need to kickstart a company that just took a boatload of cash from Tencent."

Platinum deliver high-quality, amazing games but they have gotten a bit full of themselves lately. Even their big reveals for 2020 that were supposed to massive didn't really do much. The biggest pops were "Hey, we're working on a new game in addition to the several projects we are already working on and can't show any details on."

Re: Burnout Paradise Remastered Speeds Onto Switch This June, But It's Pretty Pricey

tkdboy1889

Reminds me of when they put Mass Effect 3 on the Wii U for $60 when other systems had the trilogy for the same price.

Regardless of how one feels about EA themselves, they clearly don't like Nintendo because they sabotage everything they release. FIFA legacy edition full price with almost none of the new content, ME 3 for Wii U, Unravel 2 but not the original, now this. They want an excuse to not do business with Nintendo, it seems.

Re: Street Fighter Producer Says He's Open To More Entries On Nintendo Switch

tkdboy1889

"If there is another opportunity that makes sense for us, we would consider the Switch again."

Lines like this are basically fluffy ways of saying "nope." Kind of how like EA would always say the "liked the Switch" but put almost nothing on it for years. I don't miss EA games on the Switch, but I would say Capcom needs to step up their game a bit.

Re: PlatinumGames Announces Project GG, A Brand New Game From Hideki Kamiya

tkdboy1889

I'll be the pessimistic one and say I'm a little concerned at how gung-ho Platinum suddenly is. Bayonetta 3 was announced in 2017 and has nothing concrete. Babylon's Fall is a Square-Enix game by Platinum that, again, has nothing shown after years. They just announced The Wonderful 101 (although this one is apparently done already), they just announced yet another project that has nothing but a concept trailer, and then they say the next two announcements are also new things.

Can they finishing something before announcing a bunch of new concept projects? I feel like Platinum's getting a little too big for their britches after getting an investment from Tencent.

Re: Shuntaro Furukawa Wants You To Know Nintendo Is "Constantly" Embracing New Technologies

tkdboy1889

The people who think Nintendo doesn't embrace new technology, or is slow to do so, are only thinking about power horsepower. Since the Wii, Nintendo has let themselves fall behind the pure graphical power of their. However, they have also spent every generation trying out new things and making new ideas mainstream. The Wii was a massive hit with motion controls, something Microsoft tried (and failed) to mimic with Kinect. The Switch is the first hybrid console that has enough power to handle mainstream games while also being suitable for portable gaming.
The DS was a massive success thanks to its touchscreen and dual-screen layout. Gaming is more than just squeezing out 4K and framerate.
