What's with anything looking even remotely similar being a clone or rip-off these days? It's kind of how anything that graphically resembles the art direction of BoTW is considered a clone, even if it's a completely different type of game. Things can have similarities, that's not a crime.
Notice that they have Ultra Street Fighter 6 planned before they even release Street Fighter 6? Something about that feels off-putting. I know it's to be expected in Street fighter but to have it planned before the game is even anywhere close to completion just feels wrong.
I guess the ultimate question now is, will Animal Crossing surpass MK8 Deluxe in the end? Animal Crossing's a best but MK8 has got legs aside from being a pack-in title.
I just hope they didn't push it back so positive reviews on other platforms would sucker people into a low quality port. That's what happened with Bloodstained's original release.
Almost always docked for me, but the option to take it on the go whether for some gaming during my lunch hour or work or a convenient option on vacation is a huge convenience for me.
Not a fan of Apple in the slightest (I find their products to be overhyped and overpriced), but I tilt my head at anyone trying to support Epic. It's a simple case really: Epic wanted to circumvent the Apple TOS so that they kept 100% of the profits while using Apple's platforms. Tim Sweeny isn't doing this for the benefit of the gaming community, he's doing it because he wants to make Epic more cash.
Tim Sweeney is scum because he tries to cover up unethical business practices as a moral cause for the good of the industry. Epic exclusives don't add value to the Epic Store, they DEVALUE other platforms because most of the time they are titles that were going to come to all digital storefronts until Epic through cash their way. Same thing here; Tim Sweeny is basically arguing that he should be able to utilize the ios app freely and not pay Apple anything, and trying to spin that as some sort of white-knight motive. Epic is a wolf in sheep's clothing.
While the lawsuit in itself has merit, that asking price of 5 million puts it down the garbage chute. Asking millions of dollars because an electronic gadget used for entertainment is faulty? That's absurd.
@doctorhino Modifying hardware/software you own isn't itself illegal, but it gets murky when you establish a means to profit off of it. Kind of like the rom sites that would require a monthly subscription fee before you could access their site.
A Direct is a Direct, whether it's 10 minutes or 40 minutes. I considered Mini Directs to be Directs, as long as a showcase gives 1 or 2 games to look forward to I consider it a success.
I honestly feel like these 3rd party Directs are a good thing because it prevents potentially good 3rd party support from being overshadowed by any 1st party announcements. If you put something like Bravely Default 2 in the same video as a MP4 update, it'd be completely overlooked.
Hopefully the more entitled side of the Nintendo fanbase, including some people here, will just keep expectations in check and not expect 5 new AAA-budget releases to be announced.
@Marxally That's journalism these days. Build articles based on hearsay and rumor instead o actually getting concrete evidence. Lots of leakers have "good track records" because if you predict something every other week, eventually you'll be right.
@Losermagnet Actually already happened on the Wii, which caused a big stir because the Wii was widely considered Nintendo's best digital storefront, particularly for retro games.
People arguing that those who like easy mode are better served by mediums like film/books/television are missing a very crucial point: interaction.
To paraphrase Rob from Playstation Access. "With other forms of media, you get to see what you otherwise couldn't. With games, you get to BE what you otherwise couldn't."
A key aspect of gaming is that it gives you control, and you influence what happens. That boss didn't fall over because the game was prerendered to have the hero defeat him, you controlled the hero and caused that to happen. You don't get that from movies or books.
As for the author's point, I concur. As someone who switches between normal and hard depending on genre and how much time I've got, I can't stand those who look down about those that play on lower difficulty settings. Play the way you want, let others play how they want. It has no effect on you. Developers are not obligated to put an easy mode in their game, but if they decide to then it all comes down to the experience you want. Want to feel the thrill of challenge? Go for it. Want to feel like an unstoppable God on easy? Have at it.
@Folkloner Some companies do seem to ignore Nintendo for some reason. I can only think of two reasons. Either they have a personal hatred for the brand and it's install base, or they see the profitability and go "That's a lot of money, but not ALL the money."
@Thorthegreat12 To be fair Wolfenstein Youngblood was a mediocre game whereas Doom Eternal is heralded as some by a GOTY candidate. Probably won't end up up winning, but yeah. Youngblood was disappointing on all platforms.
And to think that any issues would've been avoided if people had common sense and said "No, I don't need to kickstart a company that just took a boatload of cash from Tencent."
Platinum deliver high-quality, amazing games but they have gotten a bit full of themselves lately. Even their big reveals for 2020 that were supposed to massive didn't really do much. The biggest pops were "Hey, we're working on a new game in addition to the several projects we are already working on and can't show any details on."
Exclusivity should always be told at the outset, at first reveal. Promising the game for multiple platforms and THEN pulling off a timed exclusivity is just a dishonest bait and switch tactic.
@Yorumi All reviews are biased, no matter who writes them or who they publish for. A review is simply one person's thoughts and opinions. There is no scientific formula for what makes a game good or bad. That's why games like Death Stranding can be so divisive.
@sanderev A game can be playable but still boring and complete crap. Those deserve below a five. I'm honestly getting tired of the "If it's playable then don't rate it low" mentality. That basically cuts the score ratings in half since 95% of games are technically playable.
Would you rather they be announced way before they even have any details like Bayonetta 3, Shin Megami Tensei 5, or Elder Scrolls 6? I prefer to have a game announced when it's already got a solid foundation and just about ready to release. It means you'll most likely get what you see.
@MrDannyB I don't like it when Nintendo does it to others, and I also don't like it when others do it to Nintendo. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, and in general I'd say the whole world needs to stop being so lawsuit-happy. Both corporations and individuals will sue or file infringements over ANYTHING these days.
Reminds me of when they put Mass Effect 3 on the Wii U for $60 when other systems had the trilogy for the same price.
Regardless of how one feels about EA themselves, they clearly don't like Nintendo because they sabotage everything they release. FIFA legacy edition full price with almost none of the new content, ME 3 for Wii U, Unravel 2 but not the original, now this. They want an excuse to not do business with Nintendo, it seems.
"If there is another opportunity that makes sense for us, we would consider the Switch again."
Lines like this are basically fluffy ways of saying "nope." Kind of how like EA would always say the "liked the Switch" but put almost nothing on it for years. I don't miss EA games on the Switch, but I would say Capcom needs to step up their game a bit.
I'm often okay with delays for the purpose of quality control. What's disconcerting here is that they've delayed it twice and this time they are sort of implying that it's for a complete overhaul. Unless you start from scratch, overhauls rarely go well.
I'll never understand how sports games, especially yearly ones that don't change, manage to outsell hotly anticipated new releases. Fifa for the UK, Madden and NBA for the US.
I'll be the pessimistic one and say I'm a little concerned at how gung-ho Platinum suddenly is. Bayonetta 3 was announced in 2017 and has nothing concrete. Babylon's Fall is a Square-Enix game by Platinum that, again, has nothing shown after years. They just announced The Wonderful 101 (although this one is apparently done already), they just announced yet another project that has nothing but a concept trailer, and then they say the next two announcements are also new things.
Can they finishing something before announcing a bunch of new concept projects? I feel like Platinum's getting a little too big for their britches after getting an investment from Tencent.
It's weird now hearing any developer say they'd love to see a character in Smash, mainly because it's officially confirmed that all six characters in wave two have already been picked and there are no current plans for any more.
@Moto-Roto Was it even official that they were originally working on the game? There were some rumors but I never remember an official source confirming that Bandai Namco were the original developers.
The people who think Nintendo doesn't embrace new technology, or is slow to do so, are only thinking about power horsepower. Since the Wii, Nintendo has let themselves fall behind the pure graphical power of their. However, they have also spent every generation trying out new things and making new ideas mainstream. The Wii was a massive hit with motion controls, something Microsoft tried (and failed) to mimic with Kinect. The Switch is the first hybrid console that has enough power to handle mainstream games while also being suitable for portable gaming. The DS was a massive success thanks to its touchscreen and dual-screen layout. Gaming is more than just squeezing out 4K and framerate.

Sega has had management problems since the Saturn days. Hell, a lot of their IP's are treated better when outsourced by Sega themselves.
Re: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Isn't Coming To Switch After All
One of the few games under EA I'd actually consider buying and they give the middle finger once again.
I've said this before and I'll say it again; EA has had some personal hatred for Nintendo ever since the Wii U days.
