Update (Thu 23rd Apr, 2020 03:30 BST): A Bandai Namco representative in the United States has confirmed to Gematsu that Digimon Survive is still on track for a 2020 release. It turns out the original source, Famitsu, actually made an error:
"the switch from 2020 to TBA is a typo on Famitsu’s side"
Original article (Wed 22nd Apr, 2020 17:30 BST): It's been quite a while since we last had a solid update on Digimon Survive, and sadly, it seems like we might be waiting an awful lot longer.
Japanese site ryokutya2089 reports that the game has been delayed from its previous 2020 release window to 'TBD'. The delay is reportedly down to a decision to completely overhaul development following the airing of the 2020 Digimon Adventure anime (thanks, Nintendo Everything).
The game was originally pushed back into 2020 following "a reorganisation" of the team's development structure, but this second delay sounds like an even bigger shake-up than before. It's a real shame, too, because we thought it was all looking rather lovely.
Were you looking forward to checking this one out? Do you hope it'll still make it to Switch in the future? Tell us below.

Perhaps this game is unfortunately dwelling in development hell, something I hate to witness. Let’s hope this “overhaul” is a catalyst for Bandai Namco to eventually deliver a quality product.
I hope it does deliver because it actually looked really intriguing.
That's really a shame because I've been following it for a while now.
Edit: Thank goodness, i was getting really bummed out there.
This looked more interesting than Cyber Sleuth, but I guess I'll just get Cyber Sleuth...:
That makes me sad, this game looked like it could've been very intriguing.
I've barely scratched the surface of Cyber Sleuth, so I don't mind the wait at all.
this game looked so promising (Pokémon is just LOL)....
To me, it appeared to be little more than just another strategy rpg game. We already have so many great entries in the genre on Switch. If it gets cancelled or vanishes outright it probably won't be missed.
It's final fantasy 7 remake and kingdom hearts 3 all over again
This is really unfortunate, as the game looks gorgeous, and it was one I was really looking forward to this year. I hope they aren't just overhauling it to remove the original characters and paste in the characters from the anime.
I figured we were close to a release date, since they've been releasing character profiles over the last several months. There has been a slowdown in information, but I attributed that to COVID.
Aka cancelled
Won't be surprised if this game is in development hell.
I hope that when it does release, it will be a great game. Digimon games are inconsistent. It'd be nice if this is one of the better ones.
@MsJubilee this news is an indicator that the game is deep in dev hell
Gematsu is reporting that a rep for Bandai Namco US has confirmed it is still on track for 2020, after this week's issue of Famitsu included TBA as the release date.
@Steven_the_2nd the cyber games are fun games
@Doofenshmirtz And Persona 5, and SMT5, basically just any new JRPG should be expected to get massive delays at this point, considering Square proper has put out 3 new games this gen, one of which being a reimagining, Enix proper has put out 1, and Atlus has put out 1 console game and a few 3DS games, and the only one of the console games that didn't get delayed was Dragon Quest 11.
NOOOOOOOO! 😱😭 Ive been looking forward to this one so much!
I wondered as soon as I read the article title if this would have something to do with the Digimon Adventure reboot. That's a shame, but this hopefully means that they're retooling the product to better meet fan expectations. I really hope this doesn't end up in development hell; footage of the game so far has been intriguing.
@Crockin I honestly doubt it's been canceled. Just put on hold.
Gonna bet COVID-19 has something to do with this.
This is a shame, it looked really good as well
The news to me is that there’s a Digimon game called Digimon Survive!
I'm often okay with delays for the purpose of quality control. What's disconcerting here is that they've delayed it twice and this time they are sort of implying that it's for a complete overhaul. Unless you start from scratch, overhauls rarely go well.
All major games, triple A or double A are being delayed because of the virus. Even Last of us 2 is delayed, which was supposed to be the super bomb for the end gen. Open Nintendo life, Ign, GameSpot or any other videogame websites, almost no updates. Because there's no news to write about. Everything is on hold. There's no point for a publisher to release a game if the retailer shops are closed. It's a bloody pandemic, no money to develop no money to buy, simple as it is.
And I preordered this game so I wouldn't miss it. Oh well as long as my PreOrder holds I will wait.

Apparently this was a mistake, the game is not delayed. Probably should update the article.
@link3710 YES!
That's a relief to hear! I was originally saddened when I read this, but hearing about it being a typo just reignited my excitement.
Yes I hope it could make it to the Fall of 2020.
I hope it runs better than pokemons headache-inducing 30 frames.
ehhh,...didnt look that great to me anyway.
Whew! We dodged a bullet with an extended release date on this one!
Ahem...Yaaaaaaaaayyyy
@sarethums pretty much all games on Switch are 30 fps. There are those special games that are more than that, but most are 30fps...
@Steven_the_2nd I have almost 200 games and the only ones I own/owned that runs at 30 are; Luigi's mansion, animal crossing and pokemon shield.
