Despite the initial confusion earlier in the month, it has now been confirmed that Burnout Paradise Remastered is indeed racing onto Nintendo Switch this June. It's set to launch on the 19th, but it'll come at quite a price.
The game's release date briefly appeared on the US Switch eShop a few weeks back, before quickly being replaced with a suspicious 'TBD' instead. Thankfully, the date was correct, and we won't have long to wait before we can get stuck in.
It's set to cost $49.99 / £44.99 when it arrives in June, which is pretty steep considering it launched for significantly less on other systems a couple of years ago.
Here's an official description taken straight from the press release:
Burnout Paradise Remastered is the definitive Burnout Paradise experience, delivering the complete original game and eight high-octane DLC packs including Cops and Robbers pack, Legendary Cars, Burnout Bikes, and Big Surf Island. Racers can smash through traffic and rule the roads in adrenaline-fuelled online multiplayer with up to eight other players, or pass the controller (or console!) in local party play. Optimized for the Nintendo Switch with a range of technological enhancements, players will race and rampage through the open world in 60 glorious frames per second, along with high-resolution textures, and pinch-and-pull map controls.
Are you looking forward to it anyway, despite the cost? Let us know if you're planning on grabbing a copy with a comment below.

Looking forward to this, last played Burnout on gamecube and it was the only game my GF (now my wife) would play. Really hope it runs well, please don't break my rose tinted glasses.
Nice that it's 60 fps, already played the game so I won't buy it but man all the online footage looks bad if we are talking about graphic fidelity...
Substitute ‘Paradise’ for ‘Legends’ or ‘2’ and I’d be so excited right now 😔
After that Stadia crap they just pulled, they can keep their stuff. For anyone who wants this game, by all means, buy it if you like it. Doubt it will influence them to bring anything else to the platform.
I’m just fed up with EA and their excuses with the Switch. I hope the company falls on the sword of their decisions very soon.
Yeah for £50. No thanks. Especially after their deal with Stadia. Like trying to throw us left overs, EA can do one.
Really wish it were 2, Takedown or Revenge instead. Paradise was a deviation from the established formula that ruined the series for me. That formula being:
1: pick a place
2: pick a race
3: pick a car
4: GO!!
Simple direct arcade goodness. Sorry, gotta pass on this one.
Not for €49.99 are they kidding themselves, like seriously are they.
@progx you do realize that just like google paid ea under the table nintendo could pay ea the same way. No different than sony paid capcom for street fighter. or how microsoft paid activision during the 360 era for first dibs on COD DLC. Or how nintendo paid platinum for bayonetta. This is how things work and nintendo has participated in it as well.
@Realness I too wish it were a more linear burnout.
I will defintley be getting this eventually. Price is literally 10 times what it is most of the time on other platforms so I will probably wait for a sale on it. Should be a blast to play on the switch!
@BrintaPap
I haven’t actually seen any footage yet, but to be fair, it doesn’t look that great on PS4 either. This is what I would call the definition of a bare bones remaster.
I originally played it on 360, and it’s my favorite racing game ever, I bought it dirt cheap on a PSN sale for PS4 too. The difference isn’t that much. My guess is they just took the PC version and ported that.
@sixrings
EA should be more concerned with going where the money is but instead of that they treat Switch even worse than they did Wii and go to the latest steaming abomination.
It's a great game, but stop charging these ridiculous prices
Pretty sure I've seen this go for almost nothing during Steam sales. I think it was an older version, but still. I think I'm good.
I might pay that much for a Burnout 3 remaster, though...
I’d pay $60 for a Burnout Collection, $20 for Paradise, or $60 for a brand new Burnout.
I guess my only option is to wait for a sale for now.
@progx
Please, show us on the dolly where EA touched you
Is there a physical release all on the cart? If yes, we'll talk; if no, do one.
No wallet room for pre-purchasing it in May, but credit to the option for the filesize data it comes with. And barely 4 Gb at that? Yes, please. Also, not counting GTA games, it will be my first open world racer with bikes in it.
Last time burnout game came to Nintendo was on GameCube.. if you don't want to buy or have played it before no need saying for the price you're not buying.. you can buy from other systems if it suits you well. However, don't poison the mind of newcomers to the game not to consider. Because this game was one of the best racing games on last gen machines that wasn't released for the wii or even the wii U.
Asphalt 9 is free and runs very well.
Great arcade style racer with lots of options. No need to spend $50 in my mind...
ea can go shove the over priced game up their bums this is the reason why i stop buying their crap because of how greedy they are and treating switch gamers like crap by releasing broken/inferior games.
Sale or no sale.
Not even first-party ports like Donkey Kong TF will get £50 out of me - not being tight as I was happy paying that and more for stuff like BoTW and Mario O. But I waited a long time for DK TF to go on sale – so I can wait for this too (but I do want it).
@sixrings Well, good for Google. Their solution to everything is pay for content that would otherwise get released without financial incentive to bring them to the table. They could’ve used it elsewhere since EA is pretty damaged goods at this paint
Yes. I realize Nintendo could do the same thing, but why pay for their current shovelware? I’m sure early on, they may have approached EA. They invested money with decent partners instead, such as Platinum, Square Enix, KOEI Temco, Bandai Namco, Bethesda and 2K; clearly EA would have just taken their money and paid the same lip service they’re doing now. I’m happy Nintendo didn’t waste their money on them.
Also, it wouldn’t take much at all to bring their stuff to Stadia. That’s another reason they did it, plus free money. It’s just Linux based machines running their software, which has the same x86 architecture as Sony and Microsoft, plus any PC manufacturer.
My gripe is they were saying, “we’ll see how their install base grows.“ The Switch owns Japan, it has outsold the Xbox One worldwide and could eclipse the Wii... or the DS in lifetime sales. In the latter, the Switch name is going to be around for a long time, so it’s not if, but when. All I’m saying is, they can keep their stuff. My opinion, just like everyone else.
@hakjie11 Totally agree with you. I will pick this up when it hits 20. Take care my friend.
Reminds me of when they put Mass Effect 3 on the Wii U for $60 when other systems had the trilogy for the same price.
Regardless of how one feels about EA themselves, they clearly don't like Nintendo because they sabotage everything they release. FIFA legacy edition full price with almost none of the new content, ME 3 for Wii U, Unravel 2 but not the original, now this. They want an excuse to not do business with Nintendo, it seems.
@DinnerAndWine dude stop defending ea horrible behavior towards switch base.
@DinnerAndWine haha. Have they touched me with their games...? Meh. Not in real long time.
Clearly this is not a console to buy games when released lol. These prices are sick...!
Lol of course we won't be buying this. It'll probably sell to the bird brains that buy Fifa every year, but to anyone with any standards EA really goes out of their way to convince not to respect them.
I'll just replay Burnout 2 on gamecube and have a better time. And better performance even. 😂
@Rpg-lover no one denies that man but its the pricing is the problem ea is known to jack prices up on switch version of their games which is plain greedy.
Why EA? Please. Talk to us. We can help you.
Might wait to see if it gets a price drop
@RiasGremory true.. EA has a bad habit doing that. This will be the first time for some people playing this game and also 60fps & remastered for the switch will be a bonus for newcomers.. i have it on steam though.
How much was this game when it first launched on other consoles?
Why the extra $10?
@HeyItsFlapjack $39.99 ps4 and Xbox. $20 on PC
Heck yeah I plan on buying a copy! Sounds like great fun!
@OscarHTX
Every old ass game that gets released on Switch is anywhere from 50-100% more expensive then the same game is on PSN, Steam, Xbox, ect.
This is nothing new, nor is it an "EA thing" as a lot of the babies in the comments would like you to believe.
They for sure did an effort on the port as it's 60 fps, but the price should have been max 30 bucks.
Still refuse to buy anything from EA.
LMAO I think I got this for $7 on ps4 ages ago. It's not even that great. The old Burnouts are way better
@Rpg-lover absolutely 100% correct this is one of the best racing games ever dont ruin it for newcomers that have never played it !! 60 fps and with all the DLC they are adding its really not that over priced for again for newcomers and gamers that just absolutely love
the remastered version maybe $39.99 might attract more gamers i dont know but its a alltime classic in my opinion!!!
At that price I will probably wait for a sale
@DinnerAndWine you can keep pretending that's the case while we get the Bioshock collection AND the Borderland 1 and 2 for the same price these jokers want to charge for a game that was released at the same time as the first titles from those other games.
Also I believe Borderlands will be cheaper than the dribble EA are planning to throw up on us.
Then you have a brand new game from the generation in The Outer worlds, which will also be coming out at around the same time. At the same prices these clowns want to charge us.
Then I can also point to Assassin's creed 2 games in 1 (rebel collection) for less than what EA want to charge for 1 game that's 12 years old.
Also don't bother at pointing at Capcom, at least they don't charge nearly as much.
Your comment is just totally wrong. Other companies try much harder.
@brainsofsteel exactly. That was my point all along.. well since it's the first time on switch the price will be high due to Nintendo tax. However, it will drop at some point. So newcomers will really enjoy this. How i wished I'm one of them.
Cut the price and then we'll talk, EA.
Forget it!
I was really looking forward to this. I haven't played the series since Burnout3. They can go to heck and back I will not pay this price!
Lost sale +1
I like the look of this but the price puts me off quite a bit, I’ve just picked up God of war on PS4 for £12 brand new which is 2 years old this month. EA have majorly misjudged this one
@Benji80 I keep forgetting about Hotshot Racing! Its name pops up every so often, like now, and I’m like OOOHHHH YEEEAAAAHHHH...Still has a Spring 2020 release from what I see?
@progx "Stadia crap", as in... releasing a game on Stadia? How is that a bad thing?
@Razer
Oh really? Off the top of my head, Alien Isolation, Doom, all of the Resident Evil Games, and the vast majority of third party multiplatform games released on Switch (that have come several years after they were released on other consoles) have ALL been more expensive then they are on other consoles 🤡
Doom was released on the Switch for like $50-60 when it could be purchased on PSN, Steam, etc for $8-10.
Wouldn't be EA without ripping people off. I'd rather this EA stink didn't permeate the Switch tbh
I was mad when it did not release with the PS4 and XBOX One as BURNOUT is my second favorite racing franchise (F-ZERO!). Now they finally release it, on my birthday no less, and it's $50?? To heck with you EA, I'll wait for DANGEROUS DRIVING 2.
@SuperNintendoMii
I agree. It reminds me of how Nintendo charged full price for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with no discounts for those who already bought Mario Kart 8 and the DLC on Wii-U a couple years earlier. Talk about a rip-off!
Of course it's pretty pricey - it's made by EA. No doubt they will do mega discounts in the sales. Will wait until then.
This was $40 when I bought it on PS4 2 years ago. So it's only launching for $10 more on Switch. That said, it's now permanently only $20 on PS4 and currently on sale for $8.
@KoopaTheGamer The “Stadia crap” I was referring to the user base. It’s barely 1/64th of the Switch’s base, but EA will bring their titles to its tiny base; according to @sixrings was paid for by El Goog anyhow. EA had a “wait and see” on the Switch’s user base before they committed any resources to the system.
Nintendo Switch (52 million plus users)
Google Stadia (less than 2 million users), this is being generous.
My complaint is directed at EA, not Stadia. It’s just a ruse to get Switch owners to pay higher prices for their garbage, while doing significantly less in return. They are the worst Switch developer out them all. Activision has released more titles, decent ones too, than EA. The reason they keep playing lip service is due to their exclusive agreements, they have to claim they’re researching it or they could lose them.
LOL... You must be bloody mental to blow £50 on this old game.
I paid £4.99 for it on Xbox One last week.
@OscarHTX Unfortunately, that’s a true statement. Some catch on, but EA is banking on people not paying attention. I guarantee all their Switch titles make pure profit since they throw so little at the platform.
Don't know how they can justify this when this game often goes on sale on Xbox for about $5 US
@Tedikuma burnout 3 (Takedown) was ‘my’ Burnout! I remember playing this game as my first online experience on the Xbox with headset! Blew my mind! And absolutely loved the racing.
On sale for 7.99 on PSN and $2.99 on Origin right now 🙄
Extra $42-$47 to play it on the GO is not worth it. At Home is good enough.
@progx To be fair, Stadia is pretty new platform anyway. Especially since it had a somewhat rough launch, only lately starting to be a viable option for gaming (if you have fast connection etc).
And honestly, platform exclusives are not a new phenomenon. Heck, these aren't even platform exclusives, but instead games that are already on PC. It's a no-brainer for EA to release these games on Stadia, while porting new games to Switch requires a lot more effort.
Of course, I'd hope that EA did put more effort in their Switch support. However, that has nothing to do with their support on Stadia. In my opinion that's a completely unrelated issue.
Nothing else on the horizon so might as well get it (I love Burnout).
49.99?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That’s unbelievable!
@KoopaTheGamer
Problem with Stadia is paying £10 a month, just for the privilege of being able to buy very old games like Tomb Raider for £50
.... You can't even call it "buying" games though, as you never own or download the thing you are paying for.
would you pay GameStop $10 a month just to be allowed to walk inside the store and look around?
@RavingWolfy How is that related to EA supporting the service? I'm not arguing about Stadia here, and whether it's a good platform for gaming. I'm just saying that it makes sense for EA to put their games on it.
I'm not into Stadia myself, mostly because my internet connection isn't very good, not to mention the pricing model is a bit too steep for me.
And it will be 40% off by Xmas
And when it doesn't sell, EA will declare that their games don't sell on Nintendo platforms. They never get get its half-arsed ports and this kind of rubbish which is the cause.
@j_whitfield8 Burnout Paradise is a new game to more people than New Super Mario Bros U and Mario Kart 8. Let's be real this port will probably be fine. Yes, it's overpriced, but people will just hate on this just because it's EA even though it's a good game.
Shouldnt be more than $15-20. This is a 12 year old game ffs!!
Only way I'd play this game again on Switch is if they added a way to show the route above my head with an arrow or path so I know where in the world to go in each race.
@TimboSlice asphalt 9 is my daily racer
Looks fun, I'm sure it will be worth it on sale, little iffy on the initial price though.
I bought the hori deluxe racing wheel just to play this game. I love arcade old school racers and this I hear will be great.
$49.99! What a STEAL!
I spent, what, $10 or less to get this on PC about five years ago? Sure, it wasn't the Remastered edition, but honestly, is the Switch version going to look much better than the original release?
@electrolite77 agreed. Burnout 2 was the peak imo
Burnout Paradise is excellent. Played it loads on ps3 when it launched, and bought it again on ps4 as the price was right. It's not a full-price title though. Should be £20-£25 max.
@DinnerAndWine oh really?
Because you should tell me how Doom and Alien Isolation were 12 year old games when they released on the Switch.
Also are you certain that you looked at the Resident Evil games on the Switch? Because despite the fact they were more expensive, they were also bundled with multiple games. Exactly the same as Assassin's Creed. You didn't get ONE old ass game for full price.
They didn't try and charge you full price for a single 12 year old game, at least they gave you a couple for that price.
The only thing you can compare this with is MHGU coming on the Switch at the price it did, and even that was a newer game than this is.
you can already tell it's not gonna sell well. with how many people outright refuse to buy it because it's $50... Good luck EA, you'll need it. I won't buy it unless it's $25 MAXIMUM. Plus, with my ps4 standing there, i have no reason to spend $50 on it.
$19.99 in 3 months or less. Thats what my psycic powers are telling me.....ommmmm....
At that price and no physical? Nah I'll pass. Besides I need to do my bit not to support ea.
@Razer
Point being, nearly all third party releases on the Switch which come to the system several years after the rest, are significantly more expensive than the same game on other systems.
And Resident Evil Remake is $39 on the Canadian eshop, and it's like $8 on PSN every other month 😂 No package deal bro
Was looking forward to this, but not for that price.
I can already hear it: “ well we tried our best but switch gamers really don’t want any of our games”
EA sports, we have no shame
£45, wow that’s expensive. I’m not surprised though ... good ol’ EA
I never could get into Burnout Paradise - I just wanted to race like in the earlier iterations, not drive around for ages looking for a race, and then getting lost mid-race...
But I bought it again recently for my PS4, as it was $10, and I wanted to see if I’d misjudged harshly ... but nope, it still sucks. And at close to fifty bucks, it certainly ain’t worth it
@PhilKenSebben saw your other post about wonderful101... I’ll sell you my steam code if the other guy doesn’t reply.... once I get it of course!
@TimboSlice Oh heck yes! If he doesnt respond, you got a deal in the making man. Thanks.
No, thanks. I'm still ok with my original version of this game for PS3 from 2007. I don't want support EA, who try make money on corpse of great series, which was killed by their own hands.
EA: "See, we put out a game on the Switch and it tanked, that is why we are pulling our weight behind Stadia instead!"
Best to wait for a sale at that price.
I thought the relatively high price may have been because they would have to use a 16GB or 32GB cartridge, but upon finding out that the game is only 4GB, I'm surprised that it isn't cheaper.
It won't dissuade me as I wanted to buy this game for years, and without any storage requirements, I'm quite happy to pay more for the Switch release.
Like most third-party games, the price will fall soon enough.
@sixrings Nintendo didn't "pay" Platinum for Bayonetta, they fully funded and published it since nobody else would. There's a huge difference with that and someone throwing a blank check at EA for a partnership deal. And besides, this isn't new for EA to intentionally screw Nintendo fans over, they've been holding a grudge since Wii U after Nintendo refused to give them complete control of their online systems which in hindsight, was a good thing. Anyone who is a Nintendo fan and owns another platform should never buy an EA title because you are further perpetuating the notion that it's okay for them to treat Nintendo fans this way.
@Realness totally agree. I play it and race around for 15 minutes thinking this is so much fun and then I am literally burnt out and bored. Burnout 3 and Revenge were awesome!
I'll consider picking it up at $20 or less.
@Rpg-lover Well the last time we got a Burnout game on a Nintendo platform was Need For Speed Most Wanted on the Wii U. I'm happy its prequel is headed for Switch though~
I’ll get it since that is the only way I will buy it. But i still don’t expect much from EA. At the very least they should give bioware something to do and have them port their rpgs.
EA gives us an overpriced remaster of a twelve year old game and when no one buys it will no doubt use that to justify not being serious about putting games on Switch. Ah well, Nintendo has never needed EA and I for one don't need them either. I can get EA games on PS4 or Xbox if I really want to, but can hardly think of any EA games lately that I actually want. Ah well.
@Rubbercookie need for speed isn't a burnout game.. it's different.
@Donutman Good luck carrying that thing on the bus.
Rented this way back on ps3 from lovefilm (remember that?) anyway after getting it and downloading the awful update patch which took hours gear in mind me and my fiancée were very excited as we had Butnout 1-3 we loaded it up and we hated it! I liked it when you chose your car, chose your mode, done. I didn’t care for driving around a map for everything. In fact this felt more like a NFS game, which not terrible clearly isn’t burnout
I'm so sick of Nintendo and the prices they charge just you have to download the game anyways.
@Rpg-lover Usually true, except that one.
Most Wanted is made by the Burnout devs to the exact same recipe as Paradise. The only real difference between the two games being licensed cars traded for vehicle deformation
Oh, and the text on the title screen.
Free on Gold. £30 and i would of bought it. This is actually more than some brand new 2020 premium games.
Pre-Order price on this is in FACT £37.87., Not 50 at all.
I have this in 4K on X1X.
I like literally any other Burnout better than this one.
But I'll still probably gonna buy this when it'll be around 10 Euros, like on the other consoles.
As much as i love burnout paradise I'll wait for it to go sell
But yeah am still hyped about it releasing on switch
@Rubbercookie yea! The same studio EA but different series/ developers! The team that was handling the need for speed series were ghost games before it was rebranded to support studio by EA, then EA gave it over to Criterion games to oversea the development of their racing series. Now support studio aids in other various projects under EA studio.
Criterion Games is best known for creating the Burnout series rather than need for speed series... Need for speed isn't a direct sequel to burnout series..
The new Need for Speed,NO
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order,NO
Battlefield V,NO
At least a crysis or Mass effect collection,NO
What they gives for nintendo instead of a PS3/X360 version of fifa is just the first crysis(yeah ,i don't trust that they will really give to us a remastered edition on switch) and a more expensive version of Burnout Paridise,okay, now i'm upset with the EA.
The price comparisons to other platforms are meangliness to me considering those versions are older(of course they would be cheaper), carts are more expensive AND, more importantly, the other versions aren't portable.
The launch price is a disgrace.
It was a great game in its day , but that was in its day.
Its often on sale for £5-10 on the XBONE and PS Digital stores.
Give it a year, it will be much much cheaper on Switch.
@Rpg-lover I'll repeat, Criterion did Most Wanted. In particular, the same Criterion people who did Burnout Paradise. And when they did they made a near exact replica of Paradise.
The rest of the NFS series is unrelated sure, but not Most Wanted.
@Rubbercookie ohh!! Okay cool pal... I do like NFS any way!!...
@Rpg-lover yepp yepp perfectly said !@!
I'm not paying 50$ for a 10 yo games
To people who never played the game before, this is an absolute masterpiece, however the game is open world so people might differ on that. I do love the older Burnout games thou.
I honestly wouldn't buy this one on the Switch. I have it on the Xbox One because I can use my Spotify account and listen to music while playing. Also, I can use 5.1 channel audio on both music and game sound, something I can't do on the Switch. In hardware, the Switch gives me less reasons to buy third party games honestly.
