Re: Anniversary: The Legend Of Zelda Turns 40 Today - How Did You First Play It?

themightyant

I never had a NES, in fact very few people I knew in the UK had one, so my first Zelda was A Link to the Past on SNES and I was immediately a fan, it’s a timeless game that still holds up.

Then Links Awakening on GBA followed by Ocarina of Time which I bought a N64 specifically for. At the time that felt like the greatest game ever made and it still holds a special place in my heart. I’ve bought every major Zelda game day one since, getting excited over things like the Spaceword 2000 trailer, and now BotW and TotK are such masterpieces that I keep returning to.

I did play the original (and Zelda II) in the middle somewhere, I’m pretty sure it was on PC via emulation, but while the first is still good, by the time I played it it was showing its age and without nostalgia it never quite captured me in the same way.

I can’t wait to see what’s next for the series.

The writer makes it sound fun, but personally I would find someone nattering at me while I’m playing about as enjoyable as noisy people at the cinema. Maybe it’s a cultural or age thing but I want to focus on the game.

And as @MarioLinkSamus said I wouldn’t want the game spoiled for me. It’s a wonderful feeling discovering the game yourself.

But glad they had a blast, just not for me.

Yeh I like the style, albeit the length of development time still fascinates me.... I'd love to be a fly on the wall 'behind the scenes' just to understand what took so long? I'm delighted it’s finally here, and it will be a day 1 for me - but my mind is blown that the development years are pretty much the same as Baldurs 3!

it’s a core dev team of just 4 people. Roughly 2 artists, 1 programmer and a musician, though the roles will blur and not be as clear cut as that. They will wear many hats.

Comparatively Baldurs Gate 3 had around 470 core staff at Larian plus support staff. They had over a hundred times more staff on the dev team. Personally I think it’s more surprising that Silksong could be made in the same time as BG3 with so few staff, not the other way around! But why compare, just enjoy both.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch 2 Cases To Carry And Protect Your Console

@riChchestM I have the ProCase slim and it’s pretty good imo, suits my needs perfectly. Who’s giving it bad reviews? It’s 4.3 on Amazon.

What I wanted was a very slim case that will protect the Switch 2, carry some games but nothing else. It’s not a hard shell case, but it doesn’t need to be, it’s tough enough to offer enough protection while still being lightweight, which a hard shell isn’t.

One additional thing I like is that the elasticated pockets for the games are not as tall as other cases I tried so you can actually see just enough of the carts below the switch logo to identify them without having to take all the games out one by one to read the label. (I hated this on my Switch 1 case, and was a must for switch 2)

One small thing I don’t like is it fits very snugly in the padded case (which is good) but the pull tab to get it out is a bit short and you have to pinch your fingers a bit to grab it. But all in all very happy for what I paid.

@PJOReilly Small question. For Switch 1 I had a similar case with elastic pockets for the games. But one super-annoying aspect to this was that the elastic covered most of the game cartridge and you couldn’t see which game was which without removing them one by one. Is this the same? Or does enough of the game show to identify them.

It’s the small things sometimes!

Re: Feature: 11 Games With 'Secret' Performance Bumps You Should Revisit On Switch 2

themightyant

Every game I tried that performed badly got a boost. I’ve yet to see a Switch 1 game have any issues, though I only have around 50 games.

Most noticeable for me were Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom / Links Awakening (there was something about the tilt shift graphical style and stuttering that made this feel awful to me before)

Bayonetta 3, Zelda: TotK in ultrahand, and a few other were also pretty big, though I tended not to but the third party games that performed even worse. Xenoblade 2 & 3 also feel much smoother.

Re: Capcom Is Recording Switch 2 Game-Key Card Purchases As "Digital Sales"

themightyant

@Duncanballs nobody is saying Digital isn’t here. We’re just saying we ALSO want physical because CHOICE is good.

And frankly we give up so many consumer rights with Digital that it’s a pretty bleak future of Nintendo like pricing - games that rarely go on sale - no refunds, no sales, limited sharing. Digital is convenient, it’s got that going for it, but it’s worse in almost every other regard apart from that.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Order A Nintendo Switch 2?

themightyant

Ordered 2 of them. Both apparently being delivered tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing how Switch 1 games run on Switch 2 as I’ve been saving many of those releases hoping for 30fps and better resolution. (E.g. Zelda EoW, Xenoblade X etc.)

Plus getting lost in Zelda BotW & TotK at 60fps. Will mostly just use Switch 1 pro controller. I don’t need the C button.

Re: Best MicroSD Express Cards For Nintendo Switch 2

themightyant

They are expensive right now, but they are the latest tech. However storage prices usually tumble over time, the smart decision is to hold out as long as you can. It’s likely most don’t need one day 1. Hopefully by Black Friday / Christmas prices should have come down... hopefully I can last till then. Most of my Switch 1 games are carts.

Re: Zelda Fans Are Concerned About The Free Switch 2 Updates, But Don't Worry

themightyant

@larryisaman This is exactly the concern I have that they don't seem too concerned if games will run better or worse, it's just how they turn out.

When Xbox One first did Backwards compatibility some games like Halo: Reach ran much worse (around 15fps on XBO vs 30fps on XB360) but Microsoft pulled their finger out and put in the hard graft to get it right. Will Nintendo do the same?

Re: Zelda Fans Are Concerned About The Free Switch 2 Updates, But Don't Worry

themightyant

I’m more worried about the games NOT receiving Switch 2 patches. We have no idea how these will run except a long list of games that have issues right now.

In theory the significantly better hardware SHOULD run games at smoother framerates and higher resolutions if Dynamic Resolution Scaling is used. But as they are using a compatibility layer there is a chance games could run worse. The fact that Nintendo have shown NOTHING about this is concerning.

E.g. How are XC1, 2 & 3 going to run?
