Re: Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aimé Hits Back At Analysts After Recent Share Price Drop

starman292

Yeah the thing is we already know they are working on stuff the haven't shown. There was no mention of Pokémon 2019 (which I don't blame them it would have drowned out Pokémon lets go), metroid or Yoshi. We also can be pretty sure that they are working on another animal crossing, Zelda and Mario.
For me personally I have lots to be excited about from e3. Today the Splatoon dlc comes out. October we have Mario party, November we have Pokémon and December we have smash Bros! hopefully they will sort out the Fortnite crap soon so I can use my account on my switch too. With all the other stuff like indie games coming out in between this more than enough for this year IMO. People forget that most the stuff announced at E3 hardly has dates or is next year. Nintendo seems to be the only ones that aren't just talking about the same games every year because they have been discussing it at E3 since the start of development.

Great game, enjoyed it on pc a few weeks ago when it was in a humble bundle. Just don't forget to keep some tissues! Took me about 4 hours getting every achievement.

I personally didn't see the issue with the replaying the story, but then again I didn't find the game difficult and I was pretty thorough so I didn't have to do it that many times. As a side note if you have found an ending to one of the characters stories then you can normally skip right to the ending cutscene by walking up to the thing that triggers it. I think the only cutscene that was a bit monotonous was the little boy, the others kind of fast forwarded themselves anyway.

If you can get it for a tenner or you really love emotional story games then grab it. I really enjoyed it personally and thought the way the game made you think and the mechanics of it were really good. The ending wasn't expected either and it made my eyes well up. I would probably give it an 8 as yes it was a bit short. (But better a quality short game than a long monotonous bad game eh?)

In my honest opinion we have a long way to go before 4k is the normality. I have a PC that is miles higher spec than an Xbox one X and that still struggles to play 4k at 60 frames. It will take next gen to be able to handle native 4k, most of what they are saying is 4k at the moment is either upscaling or they have to make sacrifices for it (ie frame rate). The switch will be fine for a good 3-4 years yet. 1080p is going to be hard to push past purely because of the current tech vs how demanding 4k is compared to 1080p. It's either going to be slow progress or it's going to get expensive! I'm not even looking at 4k monitors yet, I would much rather have a really nice 1080p monitor.

Re: Indie Smash Undertale Is Coming To Switch "Eventually"

starman292

Fantastic game, ignore the Internet and decide for yourself on whether you like it though. Some of the fanbase are horrendous and it's very hard to avoid spoilers. I might double dip so I can play the other playthrough in handheld. If they bring the collectors edition to switch I'm definitely buying!

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Year One: A Review

starman292

@WiltonRoots

Yeah you're right. In all fairness I could sit on the ps4 forums (I do own a ps4 as well) and say how my pc runs Destiny 2 at max settings at 60fps. Ps4 owners will never get to play destiny 2 at 60fps lol. Yet at the same time ps4 owners know that they have made that sacrifice for the convenience and cost of playing it on a console.
I bought a switch not so I could sit and play the latest 3rd party games, but so I can play games handheld or enjoy the latest Nintendo games docked. But people need to understand the hardware CANNOT do what a ps4 can do. It's just not possible!
However most the third party releases we do have are running really well and the trade off is you can play them anywhere anytime! Which IMO is worth it.

Some games just are better on the switch anyway, I payed more for puyopuyo Tetris on the switch just because the local multiplayer plays better on it.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Year One: A Review

starman292

@noobish_hat

Yes but in the n64 era all consoles had their own exclusives and that's what made people buy them. These days there are hardly any exclusives and they just scrap over who gets dlc for 3rd party games first. If you compare Nintendo to Sony and especially Microsoft then they're doing pretty damn well for exclusives. N64 and psone area just doesn't make sense to compare it to IMO.

Re: Review: Outlast: Bundle Of Terror (Switch eShop)

starman292

@dleec8

Yeah I've done the same before. Circumstances change, games I never thought I would be able to play before run nicely on my PC that I built not long ago. So say 4 years ago all I had was an Xbox 360 and a Wii U there was loads I thought I would never be able to play. Now I have a ps4, switch and PC so I can play pretty much anything I want lol. But yeah I have watched a lot of playthroughs. Some games that I went on to play myself later on and enjoyed them far more playing them than I did watching. So yeah give it a go because it will probably feel very different playing it for yourself after all this time.

Re: A Hat In Time Developer Confirms The Time Travel Platformer Won't Leap Onto Switch

starman292

How does this run on ps4 by the way? The reason I ask is because I have this on pc and it runs okay but like some have said it isn't optimised brilliantly. The game looks great but I have everything pretty much on max with Ryzen 1700, 16gb 3200mhz ram, Vega 56 GPU and it still jutters in crowded parts of the game. I can play destiny 2 at a much more stable frame rate and let's face it the graphics between the two is a big jump (not that a hat in time has bad graphics). The game itself is great fun though, I would have happily double dipped for a handheld version. It has very very strong Nintendo influence that's pretty obvious when you play it!

Re: Review: Night In The Woods (Switch eShop)

starman292

I bought this on pc a few weeks ago, a bit gutted as I would definitely have got it on switch had I known it was going to be out on it this soon! I'm loving it so far anyway and yes I agree with its comparisons to life is strange (another game that is fantastic).

Re: Nintendo Reiterates That It's Not Interested In Virtual Reality Or 4K Support

starman292

I will eventually go 4k when I feel it is worth it. Let's face it though, even the xb1 and ps4 pro aren't even that comfortable with 4k. There is always a performance hit between resolution and FPS. Pc is the only way to experience 4k but even with my decent rig I would take a smooth 1080p experience over juddery 4k gaming. So yes I think if the switch lasts 4ish years then I definitely think they chose better out of hybrid over 4k.

Re: Nintendo Direct Mini Is Happening Right Now

starman292

Can't wait for the Mario dlc, lots of great surprises in there! I may consider getting hyrule warriors as it finally has all the dlc. I didn't get the world ends with you on ds and I heard that it was great, so I may get that!

Re: Aonuma Wants to Keep Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Freedom in Future Games

starman292

@Nincompoop

Yeah I would agree in respect to the final boss. Apart from Twilight Princess which hid that it was ganon and the games that feature Vaati or demise. However I do think that for many of them the story isn't just defeat ganon like it is in botw. It may end as defeat ganon, but the story has twists and turns throughout it that change the objective until it reaches the point where the path to the final boss becomes open. Whereas in botw that is literally it, no twists and turns apart from the tutorialy bit at the start then it is literally just kill ganon. It was just too anticlimactic for my liking. I get that making the journey yourself is the main point of botw and is what makes it what it is. But I think if they started the next game the same I would find it disappointing.

Re: Aonuma Wants to Keep Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Freedom in Future Games

starman292

@Nincompoop

Everyone is different I guess, for me Zelda games have never been about wanting to just finish. It's always been about the magical moments and new mechanics that made it different. All the way from a link to the past when you sneak into the castle and find your dying uncle. Down to that hilarious moment with the cannon in Twilight Princess, characters and story have always been a huge part of the Zelda series. I have always spent hours in them combing the maps for secrets and side-quests. I think it's one of the reasons majora's mask is one of my favourite in the series. It just had so much personality and it felt so so different. Don't get me wrong, there were some parts of botw I really enjoyed like the first time I met (without spoiling it) a member of a certain clan that attacked me when I wasn't expecting it. Also the quest to build a certain village was really fun. But I did find far too much of it lacking in comparison to some of the previous entries.

Also comparing it to Mario Odyssey doesn't make sense when Mario has never really had a big story. The Zelda series has been heavily story based from near the beginning. I did personally think they put so much life into odyssey though, in fact for me I played it almost from start to finish without taking the cartridge out (I'm at 890 moons).

I just don't want the Zelda series to lose that wow factor and personality it's always had so I can run across a huge overworked for hours basically. However no, I don't want it to necessary carbon copy it's old formula either. I think it needs something in between or something different again.

Just as a side point I might be coming across like I didn't like botw but that isn't true. I would still give it a solid 90% I just think they can improve it.

Re: Aonuma Wants to Keep Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Freedom in Future Games

starman292

@Kienda @BAN @Nincompoop

For me it wasn't that it needed to be cutscene heavy. It was that the exploration was great, the puzzles, combat etc were all really good. But I had very little to motivate me but my need to find everything. I understand the world was meant to be almost post apocalyptic but it felt a little too dead for me. That's just my opinion though, wind waker for me gave me the best combination of freedom to explore and a fantastic world full of life and character. I just felt as though the main story itself was far too short and lacked depth. I enjoyed the exploration and the game looked fantastic. But I want much more story, whether it's through lore, sidequests or whatever I don't mind. But there is plenty of ways of doing it without making as linear as say skyward sword (which was way too linear IMO).

Re: Super Mario Maker Updates Are Now Live

starman292

I hope Nintendo does something similar through Nintendo account. I never want to upload gameplay or screenshots onto my social media, but I did regularly on Miiverse. It was a great way to find tips and get help without having to leave your console. For me it also made me feel like I was constantly part of a multiplayer game even in single player games. Like for wind waker I would regularly post things like tingle statue hints or funny photos with the pictograph, it was great! It could be even better on the switch with a much faster os and the video/snapshot function so easily accessible.

Re: Some Retail Nintendo Switch Games Will Require You To Own A MicroSD Card

starman292

On a side note I think any game that is first party Nintendo will probably never require this. Nintendo are VERY good at making their games low memory. If Nintendo ever does release a first party game that requires an SD card I would be very surprised if they don't bundle one with it. They did that with animal crossing and Pokémon on the GameCube.

Re: Editorial: Is This a Golden Era of Gaming? Absolutely

starman292

Meh idk because I never bought any of my games as a kid new lol. They were always used and I payed often £5-10 for them (mega drive and original GB games). Now compare that to cex/GAME prices and... Lol. But yes I tend to buy games new probably 95% of the time now. So in that respect they have become cheaper.

I think the ratio of crap games to good games was much better on consoles as a kid. PC has always had a mixed bag due to it being easier to make games for. But from mega drive/SNES - N64/PS1 - GameCube/ps2/Xbox you could see a massive increase in poorly made games each generation. Particularly more so on the non Nintendo markets (probably because disks were easier to push games out on). But Nintendo definately made up for that in the Wii era lol.

I will say though that this year has been awesome. Is it the best gaming has ever been? Definately subject to opinion. I think obviously if graphics are your thing then a lot of people will think it is. But for me that's not necessarily a deal-breaker. I think gaming is way more accessible now which is great. But I feel gamers have to be way more choosey and end up paying way more than the original RRP which is bad.

I think golden era is often based off nostalgia for people. I had the most fun playing GameCube games with my friends and jumping online with them on the original Xbox in my teens during that era. But there was still a load of crap during it lol.

So in short I personally don't feel like it's a golden era for gaming but for others it might well be. If it is then that's great for you For the rest of us there's still lots of great stuff to play this year and that's what matters!

Re: Oceanhorn Devs See "Bright Future" For Switch, Despite Smartphones Already Overtaking It In Raw Power

starman292

Oceanhorn 2 looks great. Anything Zeldary I will happy have a go on. I've been meaning to buy the first one after I really enjoyed the demo. But I already have a backlog of games :/. I hate playing games on mobile/tablet unless they use the touchscreen well. Platformers and games that require joystick style controls are a no no for me on a touchscreen. I will probably have a go when it comes to switch though!

Re: Editorial: Nintendo Went Its Own Way at E3 2017, and It Mostly Worked

starman292

I think it was a decent e3 not amazing but decent. Definitely above passable lol so yeah a b- is probably fine. I thought Nintendo had some great surprises with metroid 3DS and the reveal that they are making metroid prime and Pokémon for switch. The new Kirby game looks fun and Japan will eat that Yoshi game up too lol. Mario looks absolutely fantastic as expected and it was nice to see rocket league is coming to switch too. The announcement that Nintendo are supporting cross play was actually a biggie for me (annoyed with sony about this) let's hope we see more games on switch that support it!

Sony had some nice games too, like many others I thought shadow of the Colossus looks awesome! But there was a heck of a lot of stuff already announced.

Not gonna lie I haven't watched xbox's stream because they just haven't had any exclusives I actually want for a long time. But if there were any announcements anyone recommends let me know.

The biggest YAY...wut?! Moment for me was beyond good and evil 2. I absolutely adored the first game and literally played the crap out of it. So from what I have seen so far I didn't like at all :/. Let's hope the gameplay is better and less foul mouthed.

But yeah over all the good news is there is going to be LOADS to play this year! (And next too by the looks of it)
