@Stocksy I did not mean to necessarily blame the EU. I said these appear to be Nintendo's reaction to new EU regulations.
Given the status of these systems, it probably did not make sense for Nintendo to upgrade the systems to accept credit cards directly and meet the new payment safeguard regulations. There are still ways to purchase games. It just the payment options are more limited.
The problem is not the optional microtransactions. The problem is making the grinding so difficult that people decide to go for the optional microtransactions.
@liveswired Actually, the problem for EA is that Nintendo gamers can see through them. They tend to see that there is no need to buy annual versions of a sports game (see Tiger Woods PGA golf on the Wii which sold gangbusters one year and less so the second).
For some reason, my Piranha Plant pre-order is still processing at Best Buy. I am wondering if my store didn't get its shipment yet. (Last time, Ridley was in store but my pre-order was still processing.)
Ironically, that amiibo was available on Best Buy just before 3 a.m., so I ordered a back-up.
Why would Nintendo be a gate? I know you have to be accepted as a developer before you can put a game on the system — but how many applications has Nintendo denied?
I am in favor of as many things coming to the Switch (or any platform) as can — and then let the market take it from there.
This is interesting ... if for no other reasons than previous Nintendo consoles have tended to fare poorly in this survey, even when they were selling well.
I don't want to think about how much I paid for a physical version of Stern Pinball when it first came out in the United States. I think I could get this entire collection of "games" for how much I paid ($40 USD).
There should have been better communication from Facebook to Devolver as to why the advertisement was rejected.
Facebook was certainly within its rights. But it should also not have double-standards (its ok for a post but not an advertisement) that can be confusing — if it is not going to explain its stance.
I have this collection — but then again, I remember the games. So it is as much nostalgia value as anything else. Many of them are barely playable today. But some are still quite enjoyable — at least for me. I do respect others' opinions and realize why you might not like these. But I am glad it exists.
The console to which I compared it (the Atari Flashback portable) has 60-70-80 (depending upon the version) of games built-in (which I meant when I said loaded) — and they are licensed.
My thought was that if there were no licensed games included and it could not play original hardware (like a clone system), it really is not much different than a copy cart (like an R4) to place in an original system.
I agreed that the use of others' IP without a license that causes the real trouble. The issue is whether a complainant can show that there is no real legal use for the item. (We know about the non-legality of running most ROMs.)
The link in the story does not work. And when I go to the website, I only get an option for a free print issue (which I don't wish to pay for international shipping).
@TreonsRealm I was thinking along those lines — especially since I still have the Gamer Club discount for another 10 months. But then again, it could put the games at BestBuy at a higher price point, making things better for those who bought the games directly.
Here is a key point: Correction: This story originally said that WarioWare gold launched July 27. It actually debuted in North America on August 3. That gave it two days of sales on the July NPD chart.
The writer had the NA release date wrong. So I wonder if he thought it didn't chart in 9 days — which would be a much larger story.
If it does not allow (virtually) everyone to publish on the eShop — it gets accused of playing favorites and the discussion goes back to when Nintendo used to limit third party publishing.

This is one I had no interest in ... until I played the demo.
Now my question is Switch, 3DS — or both.
The only problem I had with the demo is that if I pressed the screen too hard, I could not link plates. I had to use less pressure to be able to make matches. (And no, I wasn't trying to press the TV screen).
Some sites have attributed these to GameMill-- because the distributor (Solutions 2 Go) is also the same for all five announced offerings.. But the higher price and lack of box art may be reason to hope that this is THQ-Nordic.
I would think that Nintendo has shared information, even if it is just at an abstract level, with its prominent retail partners. And while there are plenty of reasons to not be critical of Gamestop as a corporate entity, it is one of those partners. It is also interesting that store clerks at its stores that talked down the WiiU and even the Wii are now enthralled by the Switch and are even pushing it.
@Galenmereth
There is group think and there is being considerate.
This is something that would be difficult for me to play if my wife is around. So hopefully, the display of the pictures can be turned off (or at least is not automatic).

Re: Review: GRID Autosport - Finally, Switch Gets The Serious Racing Game It Deserves
It seems incomplete right now.
I also wish it was physical.
I don't like spending that much on a download title.

I have the physical version pre-ordered.
Re: Pre-Orders Appear For That Lovely Golden Shovel Knight amiibo
I pre-ordered in store at GameStop when it first went live — and everyone thought it was a NA exclusive to that retailer.

Re: Nintendo Removing Credit Card Support From 3DS And Wii U eShop In Europe
This does NOT appear to be the case in the Americas right now: https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1286/p/994/c/536
It does appear to be caused by changes in EC banking/credit card regulations.

Re: Nintendo, Sony And Microsoft All Under Investigation Over Online Gaming Services
Probably have to just switch to an opt-in rather than an opt-out model for auto-renewal.
My experience is satellite radio is the worst. You can't use the website to cancel (only to order, change, add). You have to call to stop service.
Re: Video: Hmm, This Nintendo Direct Presentation Sure Is Suspicious
I wonder how many of the games in the semi-serious first part of the video may actually make it to Switch.

Re: The New BittBoy Can Play NES, Game Boy And Game Boy Color (Ahem) Games
@roadrunner343 I expressed that very poorly.

Re: The New BittBoy Can Play NES, Game Boy And Game Boy Color (Ahem) Games
Does it come with any games pre-loaded?
If so, then it is no different than some of the other retro consoles (such as the Atari Flashback portable).
If not, it is in a very gray legal area.
I also wonder how good the product is.

Re: New Study Suggests That Playing Violent Video Games Leads To Increased Physical Aggression
When I see a researcher consistently find something where no one else has, that person is either a genius or using a different method.

Re: Zen Studios Acquires Bally And Williams Pinball Licence, Tables Headed To Pinball FX3
@holygeez03 I figured as much. What I fear is that it will take a lot of time for the older tables (which I prefer to play) appear — if ever.
Re: Zen Studios Acquires Bally And Williams Pinball Licence, Tables Headed To Pinball FX3
Will they have to rebuild new sims or do they get to release what was done before?
If they have to rebuild, it may take a LONG LONG time to see some of the older tables.
Re: Nintendo Grabbed Every Top Ten Spot In Japanese Charts Last Week, Minecraft On Top

Re: Nintendo Didn’t Want Yakuza Series, According To Sega’s Toshihiro Nagoshi
One point that is missed (or at least I have not seen) is that this refers to actions from about 15 years ago.
[The first game was released almost 13 years ago on PS2 in Japan.]
That was three Nintendo consoles and just shortly after Iwata took over as head of the company.
It was a very different world. The way the headline reads, it sounds as if this was a recent development. It was not.
Re: Nindies Respond To Nintendo Releasing High Volume Of Games On Switch eShop
Nintendo is between a rock and a hard place here.

If it lets (virtually) everyone publish, then people complain the eShop is over crowded.

Re: Praise The Sun, We're Getting A Dark Souls Solaire Amiibo
@JTMnM I use the same tools. But it is tough when you are off Twitter for the evening and an exclusive item releases and sells out within two hours.
This is also a bit of a cautionary tale as had I been able to order the amiibo, I would have certainly bought the game. Now I am not so sure.
