Well, this is nice. Moon Studios' dream-like Ori And The Blind Forest is coming to the Nintendo Switch, and it's being published by Xbox Game Studios.
Set in the Forest of Nibel, this award-winning action-platformer boasts gorgeous artwork, a fully-orchestrated score and tight, rewarding gameplay. It's already been a hit on the Xbox One, and should be right at home on the Nintendo Switch.
Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch on September 27th, and is set to include "numerous new features". Will you be giving it a spin?

TAKE MY MONEY!!!
In all seriousness though, I never played this game before and am so excited to try this game out for the first time
My favourite game of this generation, no doubt about it. Enjoy to anyone who hasn't played it yet! In roughly 30 years of gaming (I'm not counting my baby years ) it's the only game that has made me cry. Incredible game.
Looks lovely. Penance for Rare perhaps?
Game is beautiful!
I wonder if this means Dr.M64 (of AM2R fame) is working with the porting process? If so, that'd be so cathartic
It seemed inevitable that it was heading for Switch with how much it's been rumoured over the months. Good to have it finally official.
Is it getting a physical release?
Why did they have to pick the same day as Dragon Quest XI S? Why do publishers keep doing this to me?!
@ieatdragonz
I think he works as a level designer with Moon Studios, I might be mistaken.
But Milton Guasti already has special thanks in The Mummy Demastered's credits, for whatever reason that might. Maybe because of his expertise in Metroidvanias?
Hopefully the port is just as good as Cuphead's
Really excited for this one. The graphical style reminds me of hollow knight. The gameplay seems tight and fast. Can't wait to get my hands on this. It'll be tough with links awakening though so close in release though
Yes. Just yes. This is what the Microsoft-Nintendo tie-up was for!
Microsoft/Xbox Game Studios is releasing more on the Switch than EA. What does that tell you?
Can’t wait. This game is on my must try list. And now I can play it because I don’t have an Xbox One. Day 1 purchase.
Kudos to Microsoft for doing this. This arrangement has to be doing decently for them, I think Cuphead’s Switch sales in Japan were more than they could ever hope to muster with just the Xbox. Looking forward to playing this.
Ori on my Bday too, happy day!
Hell yes! One of the best Metroidvania's of all time! Easy double-dip for me!
I never bought it on Steam, but I will buy it on the Switch.
Now what about Will of the Wisps...? This is great and stuff - don't get me wrong. I'm a bit sad I spoiled it for myself by watching a Lets Play of it instead of getting to try it for myself now its coming to Switch. But hopefully this means we'll get the second game too at some point.
GIVE ME PHYSICAL!!
Edit: Just found this:
Glad I ignored this on Steam for so long. This will be a beautiful match for the Switch's hardware.
I only got an hour or two into Ori, but liked what I played so far. I'm much more likely to play it on a handheld, so I'll keep an eye out for a sale down the line to double dip if I haven't had a chance to get back to it before then.
Day 1 purchase for me.
I bought it already, not going to double dip this time
YES!! I will absolutely purchase and play through this a third time!
1080p 60fps confirmed
"Nice"? Ha. This is more than nice. This is FREAKING FANTASTIC! Ori is one of the best Metroidvanias I've played in my entire life. The precision gameplay mechanics are on par with Nintendo's best, even DKC Tropical Freeze, the level design is as good as any Metroid game, the music is on par with both of them, and the gorgeous artstyle is second to none.
This game is the full package. Best exclusive on the Xbox One- in fact, it's the one game I'd say if you have to buy a console to play it, then buy a console to play it.
Ori + Cuphead = best 2 X1 exclusives this gen ---> both on Nintendo Switch.
It looks amazing! Glad that Microsoft supports the Switch.
Sweet! Loved this one and will definitely get it on switch. With this Microsoft/ Nintendo partnership working well, maybe there will be a banjo kazooie remaster in the future?
@RupeeClock You're right this wouldn't be his field. But the reason I said maybe is because we aren't sure what definitive edition means. Having a new bonus level in made by Dr.M would be legendary.
Even if not, I just want to see him in the credits. AM2R was too great for him to never have his name on a Nintendo platform
Excellent! This game is the only game I would of ever considered buying an Xbox One for...glad I waited!
Definitely been wanting to check this out, will have to get it at some point at least.
@Bunkerneath
It's getting a physical? Oh thank goodness that's exactly what I wanted.
September is going to be a very expensive month!
@Aeleron0X Me too! Can’t wait to see what all the fuss is about.
On a separate note, was anyone else hoping for a Silksong update? I could cry...
I've been waiting for this for a while. Looking forward to trying it for the first time! Who would've thought one of the Switch's strongest supporters would be Microsoft?
@ThatNyteDaez
Ori is technically a Microsoft franchise so Windows and XBox One will get the sequel first. I do hope a Switch port will be coming in the future otherwise there would be no point bringing the original game to the Switch. Anyways, day one buy for me despite I already own the game twice but it is so good, I am willing to triple dip. Although, I think Ori and the Blind Forest looks so gorgeous, it should be played on a large television with highest resolution possible, preferably 4K. Really, Ori and the Blind does not need to be on the Switch but great games are always welcome on it.
Nice news! I always wanted to play this!
That’s by far the best Xbox exclusive
Please let this get a physical release as well. I need this and Cuphead in my collection.
Loved this game. First game I downloaded on the PC Xbox Game Pass Beta.
I am sold on this game - Cant wait for Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Day 1 buy.
This just looks incredible, Day 1 Purchase
@coxy100
Interesting. I will buy it Day 1. I love playing games that challenge me emotionally. Have you played Rime? That game wrecked me.
@RupeeClock This is just a picture I found on Twitter, but as it looks very similar to the Xbox box art, I am hopeful.
But after Cuphead and now this. I'm even more hopeful for Rare Replay!!
All ready have this beautiful gem on xbox one x but I'll gladly double dip if the game gets a physical release for switch.
I will deffinley check this one out,
Got my interest not the best announce for me but yes im glad and day 1!
Omg yes I’ve been so keen to play this and it’s coming to Switch!!!!
I got a pirated PC version, played only for an hour. Thank god for that, now I can continue playing handheld.
Microsoft is gifting Nintendo with Cupheads and Ori, what did Nintendo gave them in return? I wonder about the deals they do under the table.
Glad for the people who now will be able to enjoy this masterpiece, but that's another Xbox One exclusive that isn't exclusive anymore. And there weren't many to begin with.
@mike_intv That Microsoft actually values our money.
Brilliant work, Phil!
This. Made. My. Day. I finally jumped into Game Pass/ Xbox live because of the Nintendo support MS is giving. I love it when companies work together. Makes it easier to throw money at them. Here is hoping we get the new ori after a timed exclusive period on xbox.
Edit: Also WHY is everything in September?! Squeenix can fall down a well for not releasing the DQ switch worldwide (I know both PS4s, and nintendo 2ds also didn't come west but the mark up is insane...still I must have it).
Excellent metriodvania game. I'll gladly double dip for this
So awesome! And coming pretty soon too! I will definitely be picking this up around release. Hopefully we’ll get the second one later on too! Still crossing my fingers for game pass!
Anyone else hopeful for a Banjo Kazooie HD Remaster now?
This is still sitting on my dashboard from last year, I really need to start it now. Good to hear Microsoft is still bringing goodies over to Switch
Just a thought... If this is really getting some brand new features then why not call it the "Switch Edition"? I already own the Definitive Edition on Steam so Microsoft's choice to stick to the old name is puzzling.
@nintendolie An audience of 35 million gamers
A bit recently, I went ahead for the Game Pass Ultimate deal after getting an XB1. I did all of that because I wanted to thank MS for all that they are doing with Ninty. For what MS folk are planning to do, Im happy to help them out and make this Ninty/MS partnership blossom. I have no problems with MS trying to extend their services as a brand to Nintendo than a competitor, especially if it helps make a good impression over at Japan, which sales in the past there are problematic.
@Moroboshi876 That's old fashioned thinking. Microsoft's 'platform' is not physical. Or at least, it's more than physical.
MS is a better third party publisher on the Switch than Ubisoft or EA. How times have changed.
I wonder if Sony would want to push some games to the Switch as well... I wouldn't complain if they did
@Dringo Well, I like for my systems to have games that drive new people to buy them. But anyway, I am old fashioned myself.
I have heard so many great things about this one! It's definitely hitting the Switchlist. The only negative is that it's already releasing in a crowded month.
This was rumoured back in January - great to finally have it confirmed! Will get this day one.
There were a ton of great games rumoured at the turn of the year... I wonder how many others will be announced in the inevitable September Direct?
Anyone who hasn’t played this-get it. What a welcome port. Fantastic game.
September is getting a bit too crowded now...
I've already played it on my PC a couple of years ago. I'm gonna wait for the Digital Foundries comparison before I decide to buy this one again. It's a brilliant game though.
I want to buy it, but my track record keeps confirming that Metroid type games just aren't for me. I seem to enjoy them for a few hours and then I never go back
@Viken I saw Rime is on sale for $10 on Switch right now. Does it run well? I’ve been thinking of picking it up
@Moroboshi876 But they’re not trying to sell systems. That’s my point.
Or at least, not in the traditional sense.
@Dringo No, of course, but I love my Xbox systems and like the fact that some exclusives make them worth it.
@SimplyCinnamon53 I played Rime on PS4 before it was announced for Switch. I saw that performance was buggy at first on Switch but improved after a patch but I do not know how good it runs now. It is a must play game though.
Yay! This looks so good.
It's one of my favorite games ever. I'm definitely buying it again for Switch, assuming the visuals and frame rate don't take a hit.
Totally getting this, looks gorgeous!
You know, I think Microsoft treats Nintendo as their handheld devision, as they don’t have one themselves.
Xbox is no doubt making a number of partnerships with Nintendo Switch in order to help fund their upcoming console. It's a conflict for me, as getting this would support both my favorite game company and their direct competition.
This is awesome. This game is great, and this may also mean we'll see the sequel on Switch, as well.
@Moroboshi876 Well, the new studios means there will definitely be some more!
Thank you Microsoft/Xbox!! Glad to see this being confirmed.
Never played this game, but wow it looks beautiful. Will buy this one for sure.
Instant buy. Hilarious that we have more Microsoft games than EA games on the switch.
@Bunkerneath Weird to see the Xbox logo on a Switch case, but whatever, I'd get it! I kind of like seeing it even, as it is a good thing for Switch gamers like myself.
Looks amazing! With this and cuphead I'm loving life!! If ori is as good as people say, hopefully the sequel will follow
Already have it on PC, but I will probably get it again because it is a masterpiece.
Xbox? I thought Ori was a PC game?
