This is a lot of games ... but way too high of a initial price for me. I looked into the Strictly Limited physical version — but USD$70 plus international shipping made it too much. Plus, I have the Space Invader Extreme 1 and 2 and Revolution on DS and I have Space Invaders 91 and 95 on Taito Legends 2 (both PS2 and Xbox versions). I may buy at a discount sometime later.
It would be interesting to know how decisions are made as to whether or not a game gets a standard physical release or has to go to the specialty/boutique market.
Space Invaders only received a physical release in the West through Strictly Limited Games. It still has 3% of the 3500 regular edition ($71, E60); 36% of the 2500 collectors edition ($118, E100); and 15% of the 999 ultra collectors edition ($177, E150). The games are (finally) available digitally next week — at least in North America — for $60. [Prior to this, only a three-game set could be bought in NA for $30 — both digitally or physically).
I would love to know the price point on the combined cartridge (and make sure both games are on the cartridge rather than having to download one).
@CactusMan I doubt they are underreporting sales. They are still double what they were two years ago and because that could cause legal trouble (depending upon the rules for publicly traded companies in Japan). Remember, the chart shown is stock value. In other words, people bought up the stock expecting the Switch Pro and then sold it after only the Switch OLED was announced.
1. Nintendo stock was over-valued, so it was due for a correction. 2. Sony stock is also down. 3. Microsoft and Sony both have larger/other businesses. 4. Nintendo in Q1 2021 double same time period two years before. 5. Nintendo is not going away. 6. Investors (and analysts) are not always rationale/intelligent actors.
I will put this on my wish list — hoping for a sale to drop it to more like $40 (which is still high but something I am willing to pay).
For fans of physical, it appears Strictly Limited has about 100 remaining for USD $72/ UKP £60.
I used to take it when travelling. I didn't last week. And when I logged into the hotel Wi-Fi, I noticed it was "attwifi" — to which 3DS units automatically connected and stored Street Pass hits. I wondered if there were any residual Street Pass hits on there. I figure the answer is the same one that was found in NYC — that they are no longer around.
Specs are one thing. How well something works in reality. And it something very different well something is supported once it is released. Those later two will be deciding factors on the long-term viability of the Steam Deck.
@LinktotheFuture I wonder if the delay is intentional to get the scalpers in trouble with eBay — though given how quickly they post them with respect to the delivery date, they are probably already violating eBay's Terms of Service (which I believe requires delivery/availability within 30 days).
@bluesun I had not thought of that. As I said, I admitted when I wrote that comment that I may not know what I was talking about. That has now been confirmed.
@KateGray That's my point. They are supposed to be Switch games — aren't they. I wonder how well they will run on PC just posting up the code. (I am perfectly willing to accept that I may be off-base on that assertion. But it is an interesting conundrum).
Watched the whole clip. First, I am glad I don't stay up to watch SNL. Second, most of it is probably not actionable by Nintendo based on parody fair use laws. Third, the only exception may be the clip of Wario at the end.
@BlueOcean True. And those that are great are great. This one plays like one on the Jaguar, however. I probably should have been a bit more specific in my comparison. Still, for $20 it would be a fun play for me.
I just played the demo. It looks great but plays like a 1990s platformer — which puts it a quarter-century behind in game-play.
I do plan to buy it ... when it is 67% (or more) off.
It does appear to be a PR letter. But even at that, someone had to take the time to process it and respond to it in detail and send it — to someplace not served by that part of the company. (Remember, the requestor is from New Zealand and the response came from Nintendo of America).
Not surprising. But at the same time, it is leaving cash on the table for all the future Switch sales. So I imagine there is something more to come (separate sales).
@Ryu_Niiyama I think the answer to your parenthetical question is is in the post directly below you. There have been rumors of a GamePass app for Switch for some time. So it is something that could come to the system. Also, there have been Bethesda games/ports on the Switch this generation, so that is also related to this. Generally though you have a point. For the most part, this has not been a lot by Bethesda on Nintendo systems.
The first two RPGs that I played were Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG. Then I finally acquired FF 2 and FF 3 (NA numbering) — and found that I could not enjoy them because of the random battles.
@Silly_G Since we last posted, Nintendo announced a restock in Australia. And while the US is large, the area where I live has a population roughly equal to Wagga Wagga (NSW).
@Pojos98 People like to be upset at Nintendo. The three-pack — which people complained about its price when it came out --- has sold over 8 million copies, so I don't know how much more of a market there is for it. And many guess that the games will be available as separate downloads in the future. If that is the case, the only thing that is really going away is Mario 35 (which personally is not my cup of tea and which ironically is the only Special Theme for Tetris 99 that I failed to grab). It may be that Nintendo plans to use that space and bandwidth to rotate special games. Or it may be that there is a cost associated with operating a free game forever.
1. Nintendo of the time was not into working with other companies the way Nintendo of today appears to be.
2. Microsoft wasn't always the best at making sure it had all the rights at the time. There is a story that it thought it had bought the rights to Donkey Kong when it bought Rare.
One final comment — something that happened 15 years ago involving people who are no longer in decision-making positions has very little connection to what is occurring today. In other words, you can condemn the action of blocking this by Nintendo, but it is unfair to condemn Nintendo of today for this particular action.
Were there other ways to handle this — probably. I read in another thread the typical reaction to Star Trek-based fundraisers is a "don't do this again" letter after the fact.
That being said, Nintendo has always taken a hard-approach to individuals using its IPs without license where there is an exchange of money or where Nintendo feels it can still make money.
People may not like it — but it really has never changed. And its legal decisions are all made from that perspective. So the company is generally consistent.
Whether or not (or when or not) it should take this approach is another matter. And I can certainly see people being upset. But I can't see them being surprised.
This game sounds perfect for a lot of us who have Switches but don't have the time to figure out everything open world. For some of us, linearity was was part of the beauty of older games.
I love how everyone is looking at one week of incomplete data and making their statement on how Nintendo should be run.
I will agree that it would have been nice if it had been cheaper. But a big reason for these ports is that the install base of the Wii U was so small that new players may want to pick these up. It just may take time, given how many solid Switch offerings are available presently.
Also, the global physical sales for Pikmin 3 weren't exactly stellar. It MAY have sold 1 million (the most I could find was 1.27 million).

@arnoldfranklin And I believe the IP is now owned by EA — which is why the game disappeared from the Virtual Console.

Re: Random: Sorry, Mario Kart Live - Sega Beat You To The Punch Over 30 Years Ago
Interesting. Typical Sega. Invent something. Forget about it. Never bring it home.
Also, did you mean similar or not dissimilar here — rather than not similar. They do look a lot like the racing arcade cabinets.
Players would park themselves in a sit-down arcade cabinet not similar to those used in titles like OutRun and Daytona USA,
