Re: Random: Epic Goes To War With Apple, Asks Players To "Join The Fight" And "Free Fortnite"

@Rohanrocks88 we still don't know if this is a respectful act from epic... I mean, if you want to sell your product in a supermarket, for sure the supermarket takes it share to do this for you. But you have the benefit to display it to a lot of customers all over the country/world. Sure, in my example the customer pays this service, but the same here. I the end, epics share will not be much higher, but they got a lot of attention again...

@Expa0 it's actually just like anything else that you like and spend money on... It's so popular with young people, they really want to be special in the game, so they spend money for the extra items. On top, you have seasons which cost in game money. I think it's possible to play it completely for free, but needs a lot is skill and time.

I mean, every one had something useless they spend money on when they were young. Today's grown ups will say "at least I bought physical things! I own them!" Time change

Beside that, I never paid for a f2p game but sometimes was really tempted...

@Slitth What about Google, then? Google has no App Store monopoly, as you can either install apps completely by yourself, or by using a third party market. Still, they are also sueing Google.
Same goes for Consoles. Is there a way to get around the stores to make in game purchases? My guess is yes, as I can buy stuff for Warframe on their website, no need to use Nintendo's store. But that's just my guess...

Re: Random: Epic Goes To War With Apple, Asks Players To "Join The Fight" And "Free Fortnite"

mazzel

@Octane You got it wrong! What @BulkSlash meant was, that epic also gave players on console a 20% discount and he was wondering why they did, because his understanding is, that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo also charge 30%.

The whole story is not uncovered, yet, and players should really careful with support either side. It's not reasonable to only attack the mobile companies, but leaving the consoles untouched...

Re: Random: Epic Goes To War With Apple, Asks Players To "Join The Fight" And "Free Fortnite"

mazzel

@patbacknitro18 it looks like that, but that's not exactly true.
According to epic, Apple takes a 30% share/charge of payments made in apps, like in-game purchases DLC and so on.
Means, if you buy $9.99 V-Bucks, roughly $3 go into Apples pockets and only $7 to epic.

Now you would suggest that, by using the epic direct payment, the price for the customer would reduce to $7, as they can circle around the 30% fee of Apple. But if you check Screenshots of the store when it was still available, epic was actually charging $7.99, which is only 20% lower.
So they definitely would benefit from their new direct payment and it's not about passing all the savings to the consumer as they want you to believe.

Re: Random: Epic Goes To War With Apple, Asks Players To "Join The Fight" And "Free Fortnite"

mazzel

I really like this fight! I'm just 100% sure that epic is not the liberation angel it wants us to believe. In the end, it's all about having the profit for themselves and not sharing Fort it's success with anyone. The whole "passing savings to consumers" is almost always "fake". Companies only do this if it means no loss or more profit, which is reasonable and crucial for a company to survive.

So let's see where this will go

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel #55 - Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

@KingMike beside the fact that they overdid it with this one, I really would love to have games with strategy guides again... At that time I had Zelda, Donkey Kong Country 2, Illusion of Time, Secret of Mana an Super Metroid Strategy Guides. No idea were they are now, probably sold them super cheap on a flea market to buy a PSX Game

Re: Talking Point: So, Where Does Switch Fit Into Sony And Microsoft's Next Gen Landscape?

mazzel

@Agriculture Backwards should be standard for the next generation, I'm thinking about frontwards... The devolepers still would need to develope for Switch, Switch Lite and Pro/2. Not sure if this is practical. If there will be dedicated Games for the Pro/2 you have the split... And a completely new Generation after 4-5 years will be bitter pill to swallow for the customer. Sony and Microsoft are 7-8 years, Nintendo usually 5-6 years. So following that logic, 2022 or 2023 should be realistic, I guess?

Re: Talking Point: So, Where Does Switch Fit Into Sony And Microsoft's Next Gen Landscape?

mazzel

@Agriculture Yeah, I hope they keep this kind of Hybrid design for some years and release more powerful systems. However I don't think we will see a Switch 2, soon, as they would split the install base... Probably they want to keep the One-System-One-Software approach a little longer.
Nevertheless, I can't wait for the next generation of Switch, as I already bought a new Laptop to keep playing, I'm a little tired of JRPGs right now and need some Mafia, Darksiders 3, Red Dead Redemption, which all have not been released on Switch

Re: Talking Point: So, Where Does Switch Fit Into Sony And Microsoft's Next Gen Landscape?

mazzel

@TheFrenchiestFry nah, that's not true. There are lots of people who buy a Switch but no PS or Xbox but are not Nintendo loyalist. I'm talking about young generations for example. Switch is a good first console, like Gameboy was in the past. Or actually girls and women, who are no casual players but somehow really react to the Switch. It's just my experience and for sure unrepresentative. Some female coworkers, who never were into gaming bought the Switch, my two cousins, both girls age 18 and 21, never into gaming, both bought a Switch. I don't know what it is, maybe games like animal crossing or ring fit really have this kind of impact. But it works, great for Nintendo, great for every Switch owner

Re: Talking Point: So, Where Does Switch Fit Into Sony And Microsoft's Next Gen Landscape?

mazzel

@Agriculture yeah exactly, Nintendo was not the first but so far the most successful. My guess is it's because it's their only platform, so customers really get to play EVERY game on one system, regardless of Switch or Switch Lite (ok, almost every game, except a few which do not run on the Lite). This makes the system a safe choice and does not give this B-System feeling that the PSP had...

Re: Talking Point: So, Where Does Switch Fit Into Sony And Microsoft's Next Gen Landscape?

mazzel

@Agriculture I agree that it's not as blue ocean as the Wii was, yet it's the first time this kind of Hybrid has such a huge install base and also having a handheld that plays AAA titles, which are not stripped down completely for handheld.

I don't agree that it's the same consumer base as Sony or Microsoft. They have some in common, but I'm sure there are plenty of consumers who react to Nintendo's console but never considered buying a PS or Xbox.

Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Surpass 61 Million, Equalling The Mighty NES

mazzel

99% are happy that Nintendo is doing great!

@Kabloop and then there is this 1% or less who need to leave their poo lying around and downplay every success. Sure, the framework of the 1980s is different from 2020. So what's your suggestion how to compare console generations? How to take your "social media inflation" into consideration?

Re: Hideki Kamiya Insists Bayonetta 3's Development Is "Going Fine"

mazzel

@diwdiws you are right for the name. No one can use the name, assets etc. without SEGAs permission. As long as Nintendo is pouring money in the game development, I'm sure they have actually power to decide some things on the games itself (Bayo 2 and now 3).
That was my point. So Nintendo has some right over Bayo 2 and Bayo 3 and therefore own parts of it. Maybe not the name, but the game. Holding the publishing rights is light owning the certain game, it just prevents you from doing any sequels without the Trademarks holders approval.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Insists Bayonetta 3's Development Is "Going Fine"

mazzel

@diwdiws Nintendo has the publishing rights since Bayo 2

https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/02/platinumgames_wants_to_bring_the_complete_bayonetta_series_to_other_platforms

"The original game was published by Sega on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and was later ported to the Wii U and Switch. For the sequel, Nintendo stepped in to provide funding and therefore owns half of the IP. The third Bayonetta game is currently in development for Switch, and Nintendo is again funding development."

Re: Hideki Kamiya Insists Bayonetta 3's Development Is "Going Fine"

mazzel

@graysoncharles actually it was a smart move to announce Bayo 3 at that time. I personally never played 1 & 2, so I was curious and bought them on Switch. I guess a lot of people did. So it's not comparable to the time of Bayo 1 or 2.
Also, because Nintendo should have some right on Bayo 3, it could be they Pushed Platinum to tease Bayo 3 to fire up Switch sales. That's also why I don't think The vents money will go into this project, because it's Nintendo owned now, why would Nintendo share the cake with Tencent?

Re: Let's Sing Queen Brings 30 Of The Band's Greatest Hits To Switch

@NotTelevision define "a lot of"!
Compared to their compilation of songs, I doubt that a lot of them are played in Stadiums. Maybe the "famous" ones, like we are the champions, bicycle, bohemian Rhapsody and maybe some parts of under pressure...

Will this version come with Mics? Or how does it work on Switch?

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 'Clone' Genshin Impact Gets New Beta Footage Trailer

mazzel

@Zeldafan79 so now the originality of a game is just the looks? Nintendo didn't invent cell shading, burning grass or goblins.
The fighting mechanics are different, you can choose 4 characters on the fly and use lots of magic. Nintendo also didn't invent the glider, here they use wings. No need for you to support it, but not every car with 4 wheels is a rip off from the first Mercedes
