Re: PlatinumGames Addresses Wonderful 101 Kickstarter Custom Fees, And Backers Aren't Happy

mazzel

@ROBLOGNICK You are completely right in your argumentation. Nevertheless, here comes the BUT:
Taking KS terms into consideration, PG should, no, needed to add at least a reminder like "please be aware that this item will be shipped from US/Japan. Ant additional VAT needs to be covered by the backers. To know the details about VAT in your country, please click HERE".
Not so hard, not so difficult.
Not adding this hint actually shows that PG does not know how the business world works and, even worse, blames this customers for that. Sure, they will not apologize because they might get sued if they confess.
To sum it up: it didn't go well...

Re: PlatinumGames Addresses Wonderful 101 Kickstarter Custom Fees, And Backers Aren't Happy

@Fath Dude, If you have no idea about the whole story, please don't comment.

Platinum games stated several weeks after the Kickstarter that they actually didn't need the money. So they basically turned it into a pre-order store. I for myself thought I help a company I like to bring back a game I never enjoyed with the benefit of getting a physical copy and getting it earlier.

Guess what? They didn't need my help at all, physical was released for everyone, not just backers and I still don't have my copy (though I don't blame them for the last point).

In total it was poorly planned PR gig that clearly got out of hands and was just not thought through to the end.

Re: Wonderful 101 Kickstarter Backers Hit With Customs Charges And Handling Fees

mazzel

@SuperKMx for me, the thing is, that they not mentioned it during the campaign. They had a function to calculate the shipping fees and this would be the perfect opportunity to remind customers outside of Japan about potential custom fees.
Also, blinded by the campaign, I thought backing it would be the only way to get a physical copy and I happily paid the extra sending fee. Now knowing it is available physical beside the campaign makes me feel cheated (either by myself because I didn't read carefully enough or by Platinum, doesn't really matter).

Re: Looks Like Apple Arcade's Zelda-Style Exclusive Oceanhorn 2 Is Jumping Ship To Switch

mazzel

Looks like a huge improvement to the first one. Was one of my early switch games and I had to push myself to finish it. The story and controlls were meeeh. To be honest, this is the game that made think twice before buying a game that's praised as "Zelda like" because it was nothing like Zelda. It's like saying a Dacia Car is a Loveletter to a Ferrari, just because it has for wheels and can drive...

Re: Guide: How To Fit An IPS Screen To Your Game Boy Advance SP

mazzel

Nice guide! Last year, I found my old classic Gameboy in my parents basement and pimped with backlight and a new case. It's awesome!

For this guide here, I would actually suggest to buy a new case for the GBA instead of destroying the original one. It may be just me, but I like to have the option to go back to the original hardware if I want to, so I try to keep original components intact. The new cases are also quite cheap and you can go crazy on the colors

I loved my Super Gameboy. Links Awakening or Tetris on the big Screen was awesome! In my memory, the picture quality was really great! So I will not try to get one again, because I know I will be disappointed but very fond memories indeed!

Re: Ubisoft's Gods & Monsters Really Does Look Like Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

@TimboSlice ok Mr. adult: plagiarism is copying something one-to-one and not mentioning the source it comes from, selling it as your own work. Drawing inspiration on the other hand is building your own creative work based on the ground work of other people, not hiding the source. This is what you should tell your kids!
It's not a bad thing to take other people's work and build your own creative work on it, letting it coexist without harming the other or even give benefits to the source.
The only thing that you could call a "rip off" here is the stamina wheel and the art style. For the stamina wheel, I'm sure we will find other games that made use of it before way before BotW and art style is nothing that can be copyrighted. So is Warcraft a plagiat of dune or command and conquer, because both are RTS and the health is shown above the unit? Come on!

Re: Hacker Group Not Happy About Nintendo's "Censorship" And "Legal Scare Tactics"

mazzel

@shaneoh for me personally it depends on the availability of the game. If it is like many SNES or N64 games, that they are only available as a rom or overpriced cartridge on eBay, I somehow agree that piracy is ok. If the game is still available and reasonably priced, then piracy is a no-go. So I wouldn't put an age-tag on it, more something like an availability tag.

Re: Hacker Group Not Happy About Nintendo's "Censorship" And "Legal Scare Tactics"

mazzel

@shaneoh I don't think it is that easy. To make trades less complicated, at least in Germany the terms only need to accessible for the buying person easily. For example in a super market, they hang on the wall so you can read them. Buying online you have to click the check box and therefore agree to them.
Coming back to the hardware, maybe you read my comment I made to heavy arms above, then I don't need to type again
In short, I agree your hardware and you are free to do what you want. But everything that will touch the Nintendo Ecosystem like online services or games will give Nintendo the right to exclude you from, because a modified hardware is a potential risk to the ecosystem. And pirating games is not legal in any regard, I think we agree on that. By enabling easy back ups, Nintendo would open the door for that, so from a companies point of view it's clear to not do that.

Re: Hacker Group Not Happy About Nintendo's "Censorship" And "Legal Scare Tactics"

mazzel

@Heavyarms55 yeah I was also thinking about the same comparison (not necessarily Ford, but I love the Mustang, too ).
Difference is, that you will not really be able to upgrade your Mustang "for free", like download a software and get +100hp more or something. This might be possible in the future but not by now.
But it's hitting the same corner. I mean, you own the hardware, so it's yours to decide what to do. If the hardware is connected to an ecosystem like Switch, with online and eshop services, they are completely right to lock you out of this ecosystem by reasoning, that you have modified hardware which can harm the ecosystem.
During the end of the Switchs lifecycle, I will also check for a way to back up all my content, especially because the data on the sd-card can be backed up on PC easily, but is bound to one Switch only. I don't expect my Switch to stay with me forever, therefore I will look for a way to access the data on other Switches, too!
I mean, I buy as much physical as possible, but these days we have basically zero games which are finished, so I also need to back up those patches...

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Verdict On The Switch Version Of BioShock: The Collection

mazzel

@AndreaF96 that's totally ok for you as a consumer! In the end, we shouldn't really care about how much effort goes into the product, because we as a consumer just care about the outcome/final product. I would love to have higher fps and better resolution for Switcher and XCDE. But I also realize it's not possible with this hardware. In terms of fun and joy, these two games are still brilliant, therefore I'm happy to overlook the cons.

This is also something, which makes a good game for me. As a long time PC gamer, I have seen my share of tech demos which were sold as full price games. They set a standard with their water, weather and what so on effects, but never delivered story or fun wise. Because my gaming time is limited with a full time job and marriage, I would rather spend my time in a good story then in a dull, but beautiful environment.
But I know that preferences are different (thank God, how boring would the world be if everyone likes the same stuff? Beside beer, everyone likes beer!)

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Verdict On The Switch Version Of BioShock: The Collection

mazzel

@JasmineDragon the only thing I actually would criticize about the NL review is the fact that they said the game runs stable 30fps and they didn't notice any fps drops. Citation:
In terms of this Switch port, Virtuos has done an excellent job of keeping to its target 30fps for the majority of the experience. We didn't notice any real bumps in the framerate in portable, although in docked mode there is the odd stutter which seems to occur when the game is autosaving or loading into a new area. In combat, amazingly, no matter how heated things get, we didn't notice any slowdown at all in handheld; the game feels smooth and compares favourably to other versions in this respect.

And:
there are virtually no framerate issues even in the most chaotic battles or wide-open spaces and, even though the graphics have been hugely dialled down, there's still plenty of detail in environments and NPCs look almost as good here as they do on other platforms.

To be honest, if you take these sentences and then watch some YouTube videos, you actually wonder what version they were playing. Then it's hard to take the rest of the review seriously. Also not pointing out things like loading times and not a single time mentioning the sudden pop up of enemies or groups of people is strange. I really want to believe the game is like NL says, but there is too much evidence that it's not...

Re: Japanese Charts: Animal Crossing Denies Xenoblade Chronicles A Debut Week At Number One

mazzel

@Razer Dude, chill. I'm still not sure why you are so obsessed with making this game bad. You haven't played the DE and your opinion is solely based on the fact, that they developed/optimized this game fast. Do you have any internal knowledge that you would like to share with us? Do you know how much resources actually went into these remake? No? Neither do I.
So, if you don't like it, user your wallet as a voice and just don't buy it. But please stop making bitter and negative comments UNDER.EACH.ARTICLE.
Sure, it's your right and no one can stop you and God behold I'm not trying to change your opinion. But if you argue like this then don't wonder why people disagree.
Remember the outer worlds thread? And what you wrote there? Now look at some videos of the game. I bet you wouldn't admit that you were wrong about Monolith in comparison with outer worlds. But you are.
P.s.: why do you think that everyone who likes the XCDE for this price would "slaughter" any other dev/publisher for the same thing? We got a great port/remake here and every other studio that pulls this off got praised here. Switcher, Warframe, Doom, Wolfenstein. All full price (beside Warframe), all great!

Re: The Outer Worlds Publisher Reveals Performance And Resolution Of The Switch Version

mazzel

@Razer So you tried XC DE? I'm 1& hours in now. In handheld it looks like XC2, from the resolution it's close to Witcher. People who say Witcher looks better might say it because of the graphics style. Compared to BotW in handheld, BotW has a more comic looks, so it's either less demanding or you don't notice the downgrade.
In docked mode, it looks really good, I can't see anything that full 1080p would make it look better, but I "only" have 49 inch TV.
The reflection effects of weather and water are awesome!
And it's a game that is really full, many hours content and all on catridge. I will check out Outer World, but I doubt it can deliver so many hours of game play. I said it in the other thread before, but graphics not everything. Let's also wait for the amount of detail this game here delivers. You can always pump up the resolution but making the game look plain.
The discussion on the internet regarding numbers and unreleased content became very toxic.
