@StevenH actually the game runs super smooth and by keeping the look the way it is, you directly feel home (if you played the Wii). Sure it's an upgrade in resolution and if you make a 1to1 comparison it will be clear how much it advanced. But on the other hand, after playing roughly 5 hours, it still feels like the original XC, and that's a good thing! Improvement without killing the original feeling.
What I try to say is, a super polished 1080p or even 4k and 60fps might have killed a little of the soul of the original. Sure, we never will know (until the re-remaster in 10 years )
@Tharsman @nessisonett just some additional information for you guys on the topic: Out of the box the game has Version 1.0.0 My guess would be, that they already applied patches between production start and sale (maybe already some feedback from testers, who knows?).
@Traykov540 I guess I know what you mean. It's like this car from Beijing Automotive (BAIC) which clearly is copying the design from Mercedes G-Class : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/BAIC_BJ80
Beside the fact that these companies are even JV Partners, the design should be protected by IP Laws and give Mercedes the right to sue them or stop the sale, right?
@Iulis84 I just played it for 5 hours and I can tell you, it's beautiful. Why do you care about the numbers before you actually saw the game or played it by yourself? Do it, then judge!
@Mince I played 2 at release, so it's more than 2 years now DHL just rang the door bell and I'm holding the Collectors Edition in my hands right now!!! Enjoy your day, too
@carlos82 Not really, it depends on the task. If the task was to say, what's the minimum number of cartridges you need to save all N64 games, then they are completely right. It was an estimation and they did it right by using the quickest way making a worst case calculation. You method is completely right for an analysis, but not an estimation. There is no point in arguing because the outcome is the same
@Zeldafan79 unfortunately not on a modern TV. I have an upscaler for HDMI, but the picture is still not nice. Composite is ok, unfortunately my current TV does not have composite. It's just not fun to play beside Wii Sports Resort or similar game. Also, my nunchuks are not working properly for some strange reason. Looks like they don't like retirement...
@AlienX I could just reply the same people are stubborn to call this game or the graphics ***** because of numbers but not waiting for the final product. So sad
In the end, they focus on clear rip-offs that even use the brand name. So this one here is clearly not a Switch, it doesn't put Nintendo's Name on it nor is it advertised as a Nintendo Switch. Therefore the damage done by this device is clearly much less then making a 100% rip off of a Luis viton back or something. I'm not trying to defend what's happening over there, but looking from where they came 10 years ago it's clearly a big step forward.
Another thing to mention is, that the demand for fake products outside of China is actually quite high. If you ever visited one of the fake markets in Beijing or Shanghai, you will notice that actually the foreigners make the biggest purchases. But when they are at home and see something like this on the news, they will say how terrible China and their fake industry is. Double Standard at it's best!
@arnoldlayne83 have you played the final product or would you mind lending me your glass ball? Beside the numbers, what's your opinion about the gameplay videos and the comparison to Wii?
@arnoldlayne83 you can call it whatever you want. But it only shows that you have no idea what pixel art means. Or you just want to exaggerate to show how upset you are that the game looks better then on Wii and 3ds, but on paper it's not 4k (See, I can also exaggerate!)
@AlienX you were crying for higher resolution. I mean the devs usually have two options when they develope for low power hardware: keep the resolution high and make the performance a mess or use dynamic frame rates to keep the performance high. Ok, three options: make the game ugly and empty so no power is needed. The devs went with option 2.
It actually doesn't matter which option they choose, someone will always cry. Wrong platform for people who want everything (portability, power, cheap games, good games, good cheap games, cheap console bla bla bla). Criticism is ok, but it needs to be reasonable.
@Razer btw which JRPGs are you talking about? I'm always looking for a good JRPG! So far have Tails of..., DQ, FF10, FE, XC2, Battle Chasers, collection of Mana. What else is good?
@mangowuvvr69 I don't need to Google, I played the game and know what you are talking about. Just for me it was not a real breaker as my on the go sessions usually where only 1-2 hours long or for farming purpose while I was in bed. Sure, the game looks much better on TV, but it was far away from ugly in handheld mode and the performance was nice! I also want to tell you that we should wait for the final result instead of just looking at numbers. This is an I'll part of the whole internet community. Someone post something and every one takes it for granted just because it's on the internet. Let's talk again on Friday when we see the final result
@Razer actually, the resolution in docked mode is the same like Switcher, as Switcher runs 720p with dropping down to 504p due to the dynamic resolution, so exactly the same range like XC DE. As for handheld, Switcher runs in 540p, not 720p and has no dynamic resolution. That's why you also have frame drops in handheld. We can continue this discussion when XC actually arrived, because then we will see if dynamic resolution for handheld was a good idea or not. Until then, please don't spread false information when comparing Witcher to XC and let's wait for the final result!
@mangowuvvr69 tell me which handheld console, that can handle this kind of games, ever had a higher resolution? Again, the 378p will be temporarily and most likely very seldom.
@AlienX probably the time when they need to drop the resolution, you will be so busy pushing buttons that you will have no time to sit back, relax and "enjoy" the resolution. Not sure why so many people start crying. If it's a no-go, then don't buy it. On top of that, it's a remaster in a new engine, so I don't think the comparison to the Wii performance is actually fair. It's like saying Link's Awakening need to have the exact same performance like the GB version, completely ignoring the new engine, music etc...
@neppan honest question: why didn't you wait until any of these ganes had a release date before buying the switch? Or are you just trolling because you are upset?
And there are lots of good games which are not Wii U ports on the switch. But if you don't want to see them, then sure, they are not there...
@Kirgo he mentions it several times that due to budget limitations not everything was made new, like not all songs re-recorded with an live orchestra or not all sprites taken care of the same way.
If this is a problem or not is up to what you read into it
@TowaHerschel7 You didn't read the part where it says that the people who they want to charge here sell that stuff? This is no classic homebrew but hacking consoles and making the exploit available via payment. This is a different level than some free software exploit for homebrew.
@CairiB Easy, take both! Personally, I don't like FPS on consoles, that's why I'm actually never really hyped for these games on Switch. Fallout would be an exception because it's more an FP-RPG. But Bioshocks story also is really cool, I really liked the first one. Second one never really sucked me in, so I never finished it...
@CairiB Yes you do run out of reasons 😂 When I started with RPGs I started with Action RPGs like Secret of Mana..When I played FF7 later on, I was really put of by the turn based fighting. But never regret to pull through! So Xenoblade was really refreshing because it's a really good mix of A room and classic RPG. The combat is not 100% real time as you have to engage in fighting mode, but it all happens on the same map, no extra fighting screen and you always can put away your weapon and run if you like with the enemies all on the map, the world is so full of life and crowded. Really cool!
@RogerFederer Same in Germany and according to Wikipedia in 38 other countries. I wonder how no one at NL evert heard about that franchise. Was quite big on TV and PC games...
@RazumikhinPG As far as I can count they made one mistake which were in their hands and that's the questionnaire. The codes were send out by a third party as someone mentioned here and Platinum probably just have out platform plu email addresses. And you really want to put anything related with Corona on Platinums account? Like someone said, cheer up!
@RazumikhinPG yes, depending on the situation, I am! Not only because I'm a very fair person and also like to think about others, but also because it's better for my mood and my heart. Look at your posts, you spend half the day complaining and complaining. What's the outcome? Nothing! You said your poem in an anonymous forum, which basically has zero impact. If it makes you feel better, go ahead, but nothing will change. Instead of complaining, people should try to start healthy discussions. You would be surprised to hear the story the other side has to tell. On top of that, if you ever find yourself in this situation, you also would like people to keep kicking your balls for something, you basically have zero controll over? Beside the shipping issue, all mistakes that happen are just human. Sure, it does not make them look very professional, but in the end, it all were small mistakes and very very human ones, too! Mistake or missing in a questionnaire? No big deal, it just got big because it's the most important question. Missing keys in an automated email? Probably an error in the software, which for sure is not made by Platinum. If needing unrelenting makes you sleep better at night, it's fine! Not trying to change you here, just hoping that this crisis can make people think a little more about others, as I personally think, that selfishness is one reason, this virus could spread to fast.
@RazumikhinPG Sure thing, but we also don't know the opposite. Needing critical is fine and right, but don't forget to be fair! Also try to take the position of the person/faction on the other side of the table and try to understand their actions. Sometimes a little less "I, me and myself" and a little more "we, us and ourself". It's not like because they missed a deadline (which was always mentioned as "estimated") the world will end or you have a real monetary loss or something. You agreed to their terms and conditions when you backed the Kickstarter. It probably mentions that Platinum has the right to change the delivery date if needed. If you don't like these terms, don't back.
@RazumikhinPG I know it's sucks, I also backed the physical version, therefore we are in the same boat. Taking the current Situation into consideration, ai didn't develope such a hatred and grief towards Platinum like you did. Here are my thoughts: With the physical backer Editions, they kind of want to give people a limited edition. Therefore they will be packed and distributed through a different channel. Also, during the Kickstarter they added lots of stuff because the fans were reaching targets. Maybe the production of these extras is also delayed due to Corona, we don't know but it's likely. I don't think anyone at Platinum is happy about the current situation. The whole Kickstarter was some kind of service to the fans and it went great until the outbreak. The people were paying attention and keep fulfilling the tasks from Platinum. Without this situation, it probably would be a bright and shining example how to run a Kickstarter fulfilling fans requests and adding more and more content (also physical content).
Long story short: it's sucks, but that's life. We can cry or make the best out of it. I personally working on my backlog Don't let this f***ing Virus ruin your mood!
Seriously, what are the people complaining about? You think cannibalism shown in a funny way is bad, but look how successful "real" war simulations like CoD, BF and so on are. That's crazy! War killed so many people, yet gamers enjoy replaying it over and over again. So chill out, it's a game!
@NoTinderLife Fair point, then let's keep discussing on SNES, Wii and Switch: SNES was really early in the age of consoles. Many games and IPs were invented in that time and also the choice for the consumer and devs was much less. Therefore I don't think SNES is a fair comparison. For Wii it's a different story and probably it is one also one of the reasons, why Switch gets less original games and more ports. A pure amount of software, like you already mentioned by yourself, does not guarantee quality. So looking at the pure numbers of original games of the Wii is only one side of the medal. You should also take the quality into consideration. I, for myself, cannot say, that all Wii original games were superior to Switch, as I only own a handful out of the big list. Also, the more choice the consumer has the less profit the developing companies will make. I don't think that every original game on Wii performed well, don't even speak of Wii U. This can be a reason, why 3rd Party Devs still avoid Switch, regardless of the install base.
For hacking: I don't think there is any scientific proof how piracy really impacts sales. When I was young and could only buy a selected number of games, I actually used piracy to try the games before I throw 50-60 bucks away. Today I buy the games directly.or try a demo, but that's because I don't need to count every penny. For modding, it's not true that you need a mod chip for the Wii, at least later in the lifespan. There are easy ways to soft mod it or use something like Wode (which was basically an external mod chip). Just my point of view!
@Late You should really try to pull through this time. I also took roughly anyone year break for the Wii version due to going abroad for studying. In the end I regret not spending more time and play it in one playthrough. The story is just awesome and mind-blowing
I also ordered the collectors edition. It was 89.90€ in Germany... Couldn't resist that vinyl!
@NoTinderLife according to Wikipedia, Switch has 58 games which has never been released on any other console, therefore you could call it "exclusives". PS4, at the end of it's lifespan, has 74 games. Xbox1, now hold your breath, has 12.
@TheWingedAvenger Are there more than 2 versions, standard and deluxe with the standard version being the same as retail and deluxe has all characters, weapons and ships included? I bought the deluxe version a year ago and never had to look up any YouTube video?!
@charlieonholiday Ah I see! I´m glad I just bought the Wii version at release I even got the beautiful red classic controller, so it was the small "limited" edition
I actually didn´t want to double dip, because I have a huge backlog, but guess what? Collectors edition pre-ordered...

@Traykov540 that's actually not completely true. There are quite strict IP laws in China and especially Alibaba is fighting against counterfeit product's:

Re: Video: Nintendo Shares 'All About Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition' Trailer
Re: Nintendo Switch Has Now Sold 55.77 Million Units Worldwide
@NoTinderLife according to Wikipedia, Switch has 58 games which has never been released on any other console, therefore you could call it "exclusives".
PS4, at the end of it's lifespan, has 74 games.
Xbox1, now hold your breath, has 12.
Go troll somewhere else!
Re: Ubisoft Kicks Off Another Huge Switch Sale, Up To 75% Off Action-Adventure Games (North America)
@TheWingedAvenger Are there more than 2 versions, standard and deluxe with the standard version being the same as retail and deluxe has all characters, weapons and ships included?
I bought the deluxe version a year ago and never had to look up any YouTube video?!
Re: Video: New Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Trailer Invites You To Meet The Cast
@charlieonholiday Just wait for a sale and if the price is ok for you, dip in
Re: Video: New Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Trailer Invites You To Meet The Cast
@charlieonholiday Ah I see! I´m glad I just bought the Wii version at release I even got the beautiful red classic controller, so it was the small "limited" edition
I actually didn´t want to double dip, because I have a huge backlog, but guess what? Collectors edition pre-ordered...
