Re: Review: Samurai Defender (3DS eShop)

Anybody else think that the character in green with his sword above his head looks like Toon Link from Wind Waker? That was my first thought when I saw this review on the home page. Those eyes...

Re: Exclusive: Slightly Mad Studio Head Ian Bell Sets The Record Straight On Project CARS Wii U

larry_koopa

I know it's been stated by members prior to my two cents, but people should not be at all shocked by this. The Wii U cannot be expected to run a PS4 or X1 game. Nintendo's console is simply not powerful enough, period. Nintendo wonders why they have pathetic third party support - maybe stop creating underpowered consoles that can't run the games that the rival consoles can.

I'm not a hater as I enjoy my Wii U, but I'm sorry, I'm smart enough to not expect third party games to appear on the system, and I'm not outraged when they don't. That's why I also have Sony consoles.

Re: Rumour: Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 Teased For Nintendo Release

larry_koopa

I don't get this. Nintendo-only gamers don't care about this series as proven by the fact that Black Ops 2 and Ghosts did not sell well on the Wii U. If Nintendo-only gamers did care about the series they'd own either a PlayStation or Xbox where they could actually play the games, but then they obviously wouldn't be Nintendo-only gamers.

Anyways, we'll have to see I guess. I'm perfectly happy with Ghosts on my PS3. I don't really see the need to buy such a similar game every November; having just one in the series is good enough for me.

Re: Head Teachers in the UK Issue Warning to Parents on 18-Rated Games Being Played by Children

larry_koopa

Tricky issue for sure. I have been an elementary teacher for close to 4 years now and all I will say is that I do not think that kids should be playing GTA or CoD. That said, I think it's up to the parents to give a damn about what their kids are experiencing and what they have access to. Students are my responsibility in the classroom; when the bell rings and they leave they are no longer my responsibility.

Re: Review: Mario Party 10 (Wii U)

larry_koopa

I love how people complained for years about how every Mario Party was essentially the exact same. Then, when they finally changed-up the formula with Mario Part 9, people then claimed that this change was utterly horrible. Now they're saying that they'll never buy a new Mario Party game until it goes back to the old formula.

Anyways, great review @MegaWatts . I look forward to picking this up on Friday.

Re: Harmonix Explains Why Rock Band 4 Isn’t Coming to Wii U, But Doesn't Rule it Out

larry_koopa

I think this game will be a success. It's smart to keep it a stand alone release with a DLC focus as opposed to releasing a sequel every year. That's what killed the market 5 years ago: having a new Guitar Hero and Rock Band coming out every 6 weeks.

Anyways, I had too much with these games back in my university days; there's no way I'm not interested in getting this for PS4 some day.

Re: Poll: Do Video Game Reviews Need To Have A Score?

larry_koopa

As I said earlier in the day over at Push Square:

Generally speaking I will look at the score first, but I always immediately read the review after I look at the score. Numbers don't mean anything unless you read why that number is there.

Ultimately though if it's a game that I know I'm going to enjoy I don't put much stock in the review. For example, growing up every Tales game that I played was generally scored in the 7 range, but yet they're some of my favourite games I've ever played. It's why I've never understood why fanboys get upset when a game like Smash Bros. only gets a 9.5 instead of a 10. If you love the game and enjoy it then why does the review score matter to you?

The main thing I look for in a review is the following: is the game broken. Is it buggy, glitch, does it have performance issues, and is it just generally unfinished (in other words, does it have an Ubisoft-level of polish). There have been times when I was looking forward to a game, read numerous reviews that all agreed on the fact that the game wasn't done yet, and decided to not waste my money.
