During Nintendo's latest Nintendo Direct it emerged that we won't be able to visit Yoshi's Woolly World until at least June in Europe and a vague 'Fall' in North America. It's been over 2 years since the game was first announced and we can't wait to play it, but hopefully this selection of real-life Yarn Yoshi photos will keep you smiling until the release later this year.

Aww, I just want to reach out and hug him.
Fuzzy fuzzy, cute cute, fuzzy fuzzy, cute!
even though i am not really a fan of yohsi...yarn yoshi is super cute!!!
I thought this was going to be about the Amiibo at first…
Tempted to make myself a Yarn Yoshi, they're just so cuddly.
@ChessboardMan Speaking of amiibo, who else thinks its awesome that they're actually made of yarn!? That alone might sell me on getting one.
I don't think these are photos at all, but super-realistic renders! You can tell by the "fake-ish" plastic bead eyes that these are not real!
Thought those a were plushies for a minute!
Oh my sweet gosh, that woolly Koopa is far too cute. Need.
I thought this game was accidental leaked by Nintendo, then they had to do an update on miiverse so no one could see the list of games being made.
Either way I love Yoshi his games are fun.
Don't you mean just too yarn cute Oh god I just had to say that, apologies to everyone who had to see that pun
I want these. I'd buy a winged Yoshy yarn amiibo in a heartbeat.
Would be nice if Nintendo released a pattern book
I will definitely be getting one of these if Nintendo doesn't limit their stock of them to a ridiculous proportion, but they probably will. Can't blame them for not wanting to have unsold stock I guess.
@TheJebou I saw it haha, and now I can't get it out of my head!
and.... my Super Mario wave Yoshi amiibo is redundant already!
They look well-crafted.
I really want the yarn Yoshi amiibo but I expect nothing else than preorders selling out in a few minutes and scalpers preventing me from getting them.
Oh my gosh darn..SO CUTE!!
Those are beautifully designed.
@WiiChuck103 it's the first amiibo I actually want,It's just so adorable,and believe me when something makes a 24 year old man say adorable it's damn adorable.😄
@Captain_Gonru - $299.99. The eBay price is the only price that matters.
Haven't been collecting amiibo - which is a real good thing too b/c I would have died from stress by now - but will buy these. And yes I know this isn't an amiibo article, but you all know what I mean.
And I'll play the entire game in Mellow mode and relish the experience.
And it's really smart for Ntinedo to release the Splatoon amiibo 1 month before the Yoshi amiibo in the EU. That's back to back months of rather interesting amiibo games rather than the run of the mill plastic Mario and Luigi. I think if they promote it they can even garner some Wii U sales over the summer: 2 exclusive games! 2 cute set of amiibos!
Meanwhile in the US somehow Reggie continues to have a job.
Oh my GOSH this issue ADORABLE!
Want.
To: Nintendo:
Please. Please. PLEASE do not make ANY of the Yarn Yoshi Amiibo exclusive to any one retailer. And make a metric ton of the things. I promise you will sell every one. (The fact that they have a key loop means they'll be fun both there and hanging from Christmas trees in the years to come.)
I love these super-detailed renders! (At least I think they're renders) the attention to detail in these yarn models makes me extremely excited to see all that is game has to offer.
@rjejr The only sensible reason I can come up with for the justification of Yoshi's Woolly World being in fall for the US compared with June 26th in EU is possibly Xenoblade X is coming out over the summer in the US.
Yarn yoshi amiibo ebay exclusive and can be yours for 599 us dollars
@shaneoh YES!
I need to learn how to crochet.
@Grumblevolcano - But wouldn't it be even more sensible to release Yoshi at the same time in the west and XCX the same time in all places? I don't get what looks like switching up Kirby and Yoshi. I know EU has more languages to translate into but US version usually still gets English and Spanish, and occasionally French. And games like Kirby and Yoshi really don't have that much translation to do, hardly any VO work at all.
And if XCX in summer is their plan wouldn't they have shown XCX during the US ND? Showing Mario in September, Yoshi in "FALL", in the spring ND makes me think XCX will be after those 2. After all 3 including Splatoon in May. I'd bet Nov for XCX.
I understand in the 80's and 90's we didn't spend so much time on the internet so nobody cared when games released in each region, but its 2015, we have the internet, Nintendo should try to act accordingly.
I'm sure I could come up w several reasons to release games at different times in different regions, but that doesn't change the fact that releasing games around the same time in each region would still be the best course of action. (I don't want to quibble over a week or 2 or 3, but Kirby and Yoshi are at least months apart.)
Oh well, US didn't get the regular new 3DS after Nitneod spent all that time creating faceplates, nothing should surprise any of us anymore I guess. (I get Japan not getting 2DS, its a piece of junk. I wonder if Japan got Wii Mini? I need to go Google that. Nope, looks like Japan had sense there too.)
Disclaimer - all opinions expressed in the above post are directed at Ntinedo management and are not meant as an attack on any members or employees of the Ntinedo Life community.
@rjejr Yoshi being delayed to fall in the US is probably to avoid there being too many games close to each other (see Captain Toad delay in EU for example). I was thinking XCX around July for US given that English translation is much faster than English + other languages translation so in EU it could October (remember that XCX has lots of voice acting so it'll be much longer for multiple languages).
As for why not in the Spring Direct, there's a Japanese XCX Direct in 6 days (like the ones in the last few months) so they probably want to give Japan a huge amount of details instead given it launches in a few weeks. I could see a lot of details appearing for the west at E3 or a May Direct if that happens.
@Grumblevolcano - I didn't really understand that Captain Toad delay, since it seemed like all the EU retailers broke the street date anyway, meaning the game was gold and shipped and sitting around in stores and released before New Years.
If, big if, XCX is July in the US - I think there is way way way too much translation for a big JRPG to make it over that quick, some games like White Night Chronciles on PS3 have taken literally years - then I'll agree w/ the Yoshi delay to fall, but then I think Ntneod made a big mistake by not having a July game in this ND, b/c by not announcing XCX in July it leaves the Wii U US line-up looking like this:
March - MP10
April - SSB and MK8 DLC, but no new games
May 29, Splatoon
June - nothing
July - nothing
August - nothing
September - Mario Maker
Oct - Yoshi, maybe even Fatal Frame or Devil's Third
Nov - XCX
Dec - something they'll announce at E3 like an HD remaster
So I'm not sure where you get "to avoid there being too many games close to each other" from based on that. If XCX is July they should really have announced it b/c 3 months is too long w/o a game. Hope you're right.
Wow, the Nintendo charm strikes again. I'm probably going to pass on Yoshi's WW but the art style looks terrific nonetheless and the yarn Yoshi's are cute.
My sister in law knits, I'll have to ask if she could make something similar.
@rjejr What I was meaning about avoiding there being too many games together is if Yoshi was same as EU date and XCX was July then XCX may suffer in sales because of Yoshi. It's like that having the MK8 and Smash DLC in mid April enables Splatoon not to be affected.
That said, if XCX isn't July then I see another huge summer game drought like last year (maybe NoA is expecting more amiibo scalping to wreck everyone's wallets and hence people wouldn't have the money to buy new Wii U games)
@Grumblevolcano - "maybe NoA is expecting more amiibo scalping"
Or maybe they're just afraid people will burn out on amiibo in regular stores w/ Splatoon $35 3-pack May 29 and adorably cute yarn Yoshi amiibo June 26?
I'd prefer marketing the 2 of them together, along w/ the waves of SSB amiibo, that could potentially push the Wii U, but that's just me, and Ntinedo and I have always been at odds. Doesn't explain why the EU can handle all those amiibo at one time, but oh well.
Leave it to Nintendo to make something cuter than Kirby.
I'm getting this Amiibo just to cuddle with it, I'm not even buying the game first.
@rjejr
Awesome disclaimer lol.
It just boils down to the fact different games have different levels of popularity in different regions. And different months are statistically known for better sales. So each region takes into account which games they think will sell most, and design a release schedule accordingly. We're not Europe, so we shouldn't expect the same release schedule. The only time a worldwide release makes sense is when it's a game that will be universally popular (or unpopular) across the board.
You look at Metroid. Metroid always sells more in NA than the rest of the world combined. So that's a game that would make sense to release in the fall in NA, but maybe not so much in Europe, because that slot might should be given to something that's a little more popular over there. See what I'm sayin? It's not rational to expect all regions to have identical release schedules. Like it or not. It's why some games release in certain regions but not in others. If entire games can be dropped from a lineup do to the disparity in regional popularity, why wouldn't release timing also be affected? Not only that, but factor in that some regions have games not releasing in others (and visa versa) and you have different gaps needing to be filled. It's just not the best strategy for Nintendo to mandate each region release a game simultaneously even though it might not necessarily be advantageous for them to do so.
@rjejr Captain Toad's delay in Europe was due to Nintendo of Europe moving their headquarters and offices in Germany from Großostheim to Frankfurt last year. They wanted to get Smash done, so other games were put on hold. It most likely caused the delay of Kirby as well. I expected the release dates to line up for the other 2015 games, as those wouldn't have been affected by the move. What is going on with Yoshi is a mystery for me as well.
@Octane - Thanks for that, didn't know anything about the HQ move, makes sense. Well except for the part about them managing to get Splatoon out on the same date but nothing else. So they can if they want to.
@JaxonH - If a weird niche Japanese Vita game gets delayed or not makes sense, but are Kirby and Yoshi really that different from each other that release dates should be months and months apart? We aren't talking about the difference between a blood splattered FPS and a platformer, Kirby and Yoshi are both kid friendly 2D plaformers.
So yes, sales by game type can vary by region, but these are the same types of games, regional seasonal sales shouldn't vary by that much, it would make more sense just to release them at the same time and be done w/ it. Well thats what I think anyway.
What's your thoughts on XCX in July? I know you don't care about release dates and are fine w/ the 3 gameless months of summer, but do you think XCX in July is feasible or is later in the year more likely?
RUN! THE CUTENESS WILL CONSUME US ALL!
@rjejr
And what you're saying would make sense when evaluating the game independently. But you forget that it's not just a Yoshi or Kirby game, it's all the others that might be more or less popular. So even assuming Yoshi is exactly the same in popularity across regions, in Europe there might be 5 other games that will sell more but only 2 in NA. Which bumps Yoshi back to summer in EU but is near the top fall spot in NA. See what I'm saying? It's a lot more complex than it might seem at first.
I don't think XCX in July will happen. It's feasible, but I wouldn't bet on it. My guess is XCX will be a Nov 21st release, with Yoshi's Wooly World in late October. Devil's Third in early October, Rhodea Sky Soldier and Mario Maker in September, and Fatal Frame coming in August or December (either the front or tail end of the lineup- personally I think it will be August). I also think Fast Racing NEO will drop this summer, and we'll get a surprise announcement at E3 that we don't know about yet.
EDIT: I forgot about Star Fox. That might be a December release, because they're already squeezing development into a one year cycle. So I think that's the soonest they will get it out. And if that's the case, that would almost guarantee Fatal Frame V comes at the front end of the lineup.
@JaxonH Do you think Star Fox will be 2016 then?
Don't you mean these photos are too YARN cute?
@Grumblevolcano
I think Nintendo is going to take extra measures to ensure Star Fox makes a December release. Reason being, I don't think they want to delay both Zelda and Star Fox. If it is by chance pushed into 2016, I don't think it'll be by much (more like a Captain Toad/DKC TF situation where it releases right away in January or at most, February)
The game is undoubtedly cute but its difficulty will surely cause plenty of rage.
Okay, I give in. I want a Yarn Yoshi plushie.
I think I'll preorder the game and a Yarn Yoshi amiibo. Also it pretty cool to know this game actually has seen beta elements Im sure beta64 will uncover.
None realized that those photos are directly from the gameplay.
@rjejr @Grumblevolcano It's pretty obvious that the Yoshi game was delayed (it was planned to arrive much earlier) for BOTH NoE and NoA because of the production of the yarn yoshi amiibos. The split release dates for NoE and NoA is to assure that the supply of yarn yoshi amiibos. Since the NoA market is the largest amiibo market, Yoshi releases there last. Regarding Splatoon, Nintendo has worked towards a world-wide simultaneous release (such as MK8) for a quite long time.
These are too cute!! I want some yarn Yoshi plushies XD especially the winged one :3
@thehoppypoppy
Me too, this would give me the incentive to learn.
Honestly this is the only time I've though Yoshi was cute.
Can't wait for those "yarn" Amiibos to debut.
@jariw - I was just thinking of you last night, my man w/ all the answers in the forums. I was actually wondering if you had a secret inside source. Your logic here makes me think you might.
I have to admit Yarn Yoshi amiibo makes sense for the timing ... but ... Splatoon amiibo have a simultaneous release. I know there are different packages between the EU and US, but doesn't Splatoon have a worldwide release - US, EU and Japan - and they all have Splatoon amiibo?
So as much as you make sense, as always, I still say if Splatoon could have a simultaneous western release, so can Yoshi. They aren't doing their jobs properly if they can't. Maybe they should watch some of those FedEx and UPS logistics commercials, they need all the help they can get.
So you're probably right, but Ntinedo should get it's act together.
@JaxonH - For a guy who doesn't care about release dates you sure have the last 6 months of 2015 down pat. I must be rubbing off on ya.
" it's all the others " but that's the problem, there ARE NO OTHERS. PS4 and X1 may have a lot of 3rd party support to spread their own games around, but there are NO OTHER GAMES in June, July and August in the US. That's the whole summer, 3 months, no games. I have no idea what you mean by " it's all the others ". your fall/holiday line-up looks so crowded they should be happy to get another game out over the summer, which is why XCX makes sense in July, I just don't think it's feasible.
Thanks for playing along though, I know you hate the date debating, you'd rather just talk about the games. So would I, if we were getting some
@Captain_Gonru - "cause the moon to cry or something"
Or will come crashing down on the Earth and destroy life as we know it. Like Lord Beerus.
@rjejr
I think you're missing the point. "All the others" has nothing to do with June and July. I'm talking about all the others of the entire year. The point is different games sell different amounts in different regions, and place differently on a list of which games will sell most. That is why games do not release at the same time.
Besides, saying "there's nothing in June or July" is an incomplete thought, because we never truly know the release date of more than the immediate game in front of us. It may turn out 5 games release this summer. We just won't know until Splatoon is out and E3 arrives. And do keep in mind the summer is the absolute worst time of the entire year for games saleswise. Most companies try not to release games during the summer except when certain circumstances allow for it. Which is why we might see 10 games in fall/winter and none in summer.
But ya, I was not referring to the summer months. I was referring to the broader picture of release lineups in general and all the other games that will release in the year 2015.
No Japanese release date?
this is so Cute I buy one even I only have the 3ds xl (Old) these things are too cute I want all three of the yarn Yoshis also bring us the yarn Yoshi stuff figure they will sell fast
@JaxonH @rjejr @Grumblevolcano
I have a feeling Mario Maker will see the same model as NSLU did - $20 eShop release, $30 retail release. Releasing any game in late August to mid September is suicide due to Phantom Pain's release on September 1st, even though that's on a different platform. So Mario Maker is probably mid September, just when it becomes safe enough for anyone to release a game.
I think Devil's Third will lead the pack in August, while Yoshi and Fatal Frame come in October. XCX I think will be the big holiday title on Nov. 20th (the 21st is a Saturday this year), while Star Fox takes Captain Toad's spot in December as a budget title.
@IceClimbers
I'm not sure Phantom Pain will impact Nintendo that much. Western AAA on other consoles, sure, but I think most Wii U owners are more excited for games like Mario Maker and Yoshi than Metal Gear Solid. Maybe I'm wrong, but usually those games don't really make much of an impact. Even myself, I have it pre ordered but it's gonna take a seat in backlog if pretty much any other Nintendo game drops within a month of its release.
@JaxonH Fair enough. For me, Phantom Pain is top priority that month. I think it's definitely dependent on the person when it comes to Wii U owners who own one of the other systems. I do think that Nintendo fans take more kindly to Metal Gear Solid than most other AAA 3rd party games though.
@IceClimbers
Probably right about that.
@IceClimbers - Of all the games that you think should not come out near Phantom Pain like Yoshi and Mario you thinks Devils Third should release late August? Thsts practically the ONLY game on Wii U that should stay far away from MGSV, too similar in tone.
And I doubt Mario Maker is less than $50 on disc, its Mario and they know people want it. Tipping Stars was $20, MM will be $50 both disc or download. And it will sell b/c Wii U doesnt have Minecraft. Thats sort of a joke, but only sort of.
Same goes for Starfox, at least $50, Its the holidays.
Happy Eazter, well past midnight.
@MrWood Nintendo's standard.
@rjejr There are quite a few difference between Splatoon and Yoshi and their amiibos:
1. Different amiibo manufacturing methods (yarn instead of plastic) and probably different factories. I bet the Yoshi amiibos are more complicated to do. At any rate, the Yoshi amiibo manufacturing is a "first" for Nintendo.
2. It's more cruical that Splatoon gets a simultaneous release, since it has online and the Ranked Battles are not opened until enough players have reached a certain level. Yoshi is a game with just levels to play locally.
3. Yoshi is a game that will probably mostly be played until the player has solved the levels, and I don't think there will be much interest to buy the yarn amiibos after that period. Splatoon is designed to be played over a long period of time, like MK8.
4. The main thing that can sell a out-of-stock Yoshi amiibo later (after the player has solved the game) is the cuteness. It's important that the supply mistakes of the initial Smash U amiibos aren't repeated with Yoshi.
5. A Splatoon amiibo that goes out of stock can still be bought and used for the game at a later date, just like in MK8 and Smash U. Actually, with the way the Splatoon amiibo works in the game, it makes sense to buy them after the player is familiar with the base game.
@rjejr I think that has to do with priorities. If I was Nintendo I would've wanted to make sure that the big titles arrive on schedule: Mario Kart 8, Smash, Splatoon, or at least simultaneous in all regions.
And now I think about what @jariw said, it's indeed quite likely that they want to create enough Yarn Yoshi amiibo supply. Kirby isn't that popular in Europe, perhaps they expect the same for a cute Yoshi game? Therefore less amiibo are needed to supply Europe, and thus it releases earlier over here.
@Octane Sadly that strategy won't work as US scalpers will just import from Europe on June 26th and sell them in the US for like 599 US Dollars each.
@jariw - "I bet the Yoshi amiibos are more complicated to do"
Judging from the initial amiibo unviel, the ones that looked really good, and the actual amiibo w/ the big ugly colored stands, I'd bet the plastic amiibo are much harder to manufacture. Yoshi are stuffed animals, they don't even have stands, the NFC is just stuffed inside them. Probably 2 cents a piece in India.
And the rest all sound more like "excuses" than "reasons". I think I can come up w/ just as good excuses if Splatoon were staggered and Yoshi all at once.
Is Splatoon really going to have a worldwide online? If that's the case then yes thats a valid reason, but I've always assumed it would be local online only. Guess I can go google that one myself.
Definitely will be buying the Yarn Yoshi amiibos. These pics are so cute. I love Yoshi
@Captain_Gonru - I don't know about disc manufacturing, but I'm pretty sure each and every amiibo contains 1 G-cell and this is how they make them:
@Octane - Yeah, time required to make enough Yoshi amiibo for the US was the reason that made the most sense of all I've read.
Though I'd prefer they find away around it
They released Captain Toad and Hyrule Warriros months before the Link and Toad amiibo. Or they could hold Yoshi until fall in EU and release Kirby June 29. Kirby amiibo are out, but I think the supply of Metakinght and King Dedede is sorely lacking.
Just feels like no matter what the "reason", even if it's a valid one, it's something they should find a work around. They seem to have so many issues these days.
No normal New 3DS in US
lack of amiibo stock
staggered release dates
months w/o ANY Wii U games
I'm not counting the Zelda U delay as every worthwhile game either gets delayed these days - Batman, Uncharted 4 - or comes out on time broken and requires a huge patch - Assassins Creed, Sonic Boom. But they still seem to have had too many issues of late. At least Sony can sit on it's 20mil PS4 sales, Wii U needs thoughtful help, not avoidable hindrances.
I'm looking forward to this game. I hope the soundtrack matches the one from Epic Yarn.
I don't even like Yoshi and this is cuteness overload for me. I guess I better get ready to knock down some scalper when the amiibo release.
@Captain_Gonru - I downloaded the Godzilla demo on my PS3 last year (Tokyo sub-account). G controls like a busted tank, but the music makes up for it. I don't think I can bring myself to buy a PS4 for a Godzilla game I can get on PS3. Or any PS3 game.
OK, we may be a bit far off topic now. But throw a little H-bomb radiation Yoshi's way and who knows
@WiiChuck103 That alone did sell me on wanting one. I like this clever idea of having Amiibo be more than figures (much as I love the figures.) Cards are nice, but stuff like this is really clever in my eyes.
