JRPG-starved Wii U fans were today given a further glimpse into the enormous open world of the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles X, the title currently in development for Wii U by Monolith Soft. Many of the Nintendo Life staff are huge fans of the Wii game, Xenoblade Chronicles, which is currently being ported to the New Nintendo 3DS as Xenoblade Chronicles 3D; that's scheduled for release in April.
Anyway, let's take a look:
The game is currently scheduled for a 2015 release.

Lets go!!!!!
Can't get enough of this epic scenery! I JUST CAN'T!!!!
Also, ELMA is already the coolest character in the game!
This game continues to look better and better... and more and more like it's never coming out. Honestly now, at this point, European audiences will be waiting until 2016 and US audiences until 2017, if it comes out in Japan this year at all.
It's like Nintendo took a look at the delays and debacle and teasing with The Last Guadian from Sony and said, "we can jerk people around for longer and more frequently." (I know it hasn't been longer... yet.)
FINISH THE GAME ALREADY.
BY FAR the best game of the direct and one of the only good parts really.
All negativity towards the direct aside, I cannot wait to explore all of this. I spent 140 hours absorbing the world of the original, and I would be surprised if I didn't spend 200+ hrs on this one!!
@triforcepower73 I play slowly and did 217, so I guess that puts me on pace for 300 hours. And I'm looking forward to every minute.
@Kroisos Jeez I wish I had that number haha! And I've never been this excited for a game in my life!
@Robotron2084
If true, and we extrapolate from what we know about the previous game, Europe will get it May 2016, Australia in June 2016, and the US will get it January 2017.
Well, that's depressing.
Yes I will get this game pre-order right after I get all the new 3DS stuff first.
So since the direct was about spring games I think this is going to get a "SURPRISE it is out now!" type release date.
I'm so glad I pre-ordered this. It's looks amazing.
so excited for this....
@Quorthon What the heck are you talking about?
It has a release date of April 29th in Japan, and the only delay for us in the US or Europe is for translation. It'll most likely be out by the end of the year, and they'll give us a release date at E3.
The environments look beautiful. But the music seems like a huge departure from the original game, hmm...
I can't wait till this comes out. i still wish it got a date though
@Ugslick
Uh, no. Translation and completely rerecording the audio, and the occasional weird censorship from region to region. Also, as I said, I "extrapolated based on the previous game" that released exactly to the timeline I stated for this.
I hope it comes out far sooner, but I no longer expect to be playing it in 2015. At least not unless I import everything from Japan.
@Quorthon If April Japan release than most probably Nov-Dec to west
@Kuhang
One would hope. But this is a sequel to a game that got a ridiculous run-around. Nintendo has been showing this off for two years already, and they've been working on it for 3~4 years at least (going by XC1's original 2010 release). A tentative date in Japan doesn't mean anything to me at this point.
In any other circumstance, I'd say your logic on this is quite reasonable. But this is Xenoblade, and the previous game took forever leaving Japan.
I'm skeptical of a 2015 release date at this point--outside of Japan, at any rate.
I swear I could feel the earth tremble just a little bit when this aired. It must've been the many jaws hitting the floor simultaneous.
@Quorthon I'd say this because I think Nintendo are better prepared this time.
No offense people, but while the game looks like it will be nice to play, the visuals are not really that impressive at all, those textures were horrible. Splatoon is still my most anticipated game for this year.
This looks awesome! Of course, I'll have to play Xenoblade 3D first, but I'll have to get this sometime.
My happiness... is ready.
That trailer literally sent a chill down my spine. Flying mechs around, huge monsters at every turn, so many different environments, and the thought of just how big that city at the end really is by itself. Yeah, plenty of hype there.
This looks fantastic. The art direction looks even better than in the first game.
@Tsurii897
I sincerely hope so, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Nintendo is still very slow at localization. I think I have a better chance of seeing Fallout 4 this year than Xenoblade Chronicles X.
But I hope to be playing both of them.
@Savino
I am also not a fan of the characters' faces. The enemy models look incredible.
I wish the camera was closer to the player, but minor nitpick. Dis game gonna be awesome...
All I need is a release date so I can plan the vacation days.
This receives all of my yes.
Still waiting for local places to start taking pre orders. Not buying online.
Exploration is the primary reason I'm buying this game. I'm a bit concerned about the story and characters, but nothing can be done about it at this point.
@rishisquid If it's anything like Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii, you'll have plenty of control over the camera's angle and distance.
I thought you had control over how the main character looked. Oh well.
I doubt I will ever play this as it just isn't my type of game, but this is one seriously impressive trailer. The scenery, creature design, and just overall sense of scale are fantastic.
@Quorthon The game is done. It's releasing in Japan on April 29th. The rest of us Americans and Europeans are getting sometime later this year, probably just after E3.
@Quorthon That's just it, it's not tentative. At all. Also, the first game barely got any mention outside of Japan before its release. The only info we had on it before it dropped in Japan and was heralded as the JRPG savior it is, was a trailer at E3 2008. That's it. This game has been shown off at every major press event that Nintendo has attended, or hosted (Nintendo directs), for the last 3 years. Not to mention the fact that the game was talked about worldwide before it was announced. I'm sorry, but in this situation, your logic does not hold. Due to the way Nintendo has handled this game's information and due to how widespread that info has been, I think it's a pretty safe bet to assume that this game is not getting the Xenoblade Chronicles treatment. It's getting released outside of Japan as soon as it is ready to release outside of Japan. They just need a little more time to finalize the localization.
@rishisquid That's customizable. They chose that viewpoint to show off the environments.
@Subie98 Probably won't start taking pre-orders until it gets an official release date.
@Subie98 You do, but only the main character. The model they showed is the generic male character for the game.
@JacketsNest101 amazon is, but i have hundreds of dollars in gift cards for gamestop. I keep waiting, but i guess im just getting impatient
@Subie98 Blame Nintendo for not giving us a release date yet. Although, honestly, I don't really care right now since college is about to start back up next week. I'll have more time to play this in the summer anyway. They can take as much time as they need to finalize the game, it is Monolith Soft after all. The longer they have the game, the better it will become.
@JacketsNest101
Ha, I broke a rule of the internet, and failed at sarcasm. My "logic" was based on the dates of Xenoblade 1. Nintendo is clearly marketing this one to a US audience, and it's hard to ignore the obvious American flag in the trailer.
I'm sure it'll be out far sooner than 2017, but I still have doubts about 2015 for the US. I'm also getting tired of seeing trailers and not release dates, for two years now. Remember, last time they gave a date, it was 2014.
Im not saying to rush the game. Id be happy with just a window for a release date.
@JacketsNest101 @edcomics Right, I should've remembered that considering how many times I've watched the e3 footage....
@Quorthon And they pushed it to 2015 at E3 last year. I highly doubt that it will take a year or more to localize this game.
Sorry, didn't realize that that was supposed to be sarcastic. My bad.
@Light If you don't like it, don't play it at all. Move on!
Anyways, Xenoblade Chronicles X is truly the best looking JRPG ever made. From Xenogears to the Xenosaga trilogy all the way to this, Monolith Soft have most definitely pushed the envelope. Not only the full HD graphics look even more beautiful than the first teaser, but the overall story, music (SAWANO ROCKS!), and game play mechanics are knock your pants out. After the English translation and dubbing, let's hope that Xenoblade Chronicles launches in your country and North America this Autumn.
Looks beautifull...with gigantic creatures!!
