To my first point all I'm saying is that this game looks fantastic and it'd be a shame if its performance took away from the experience. Need for Speed Most Wanted is borderline un-playable on the Wii U... it once froze on me 4 times within 5 minutes.
I just hope that this game doesn't freeze constantly like every other third party game that I've ever played on the Wii U. Hopefully the fact that this is a Wii U exclusive and was built from the ground up on the platform will eliminate that problem.
Don't even get me started on the Wii U versions of Need for Speed Most Wanted or Assassin's Creed III...
Does anybody know if you'll be able to play as any character on any stage, or will there be "Link stages" and "Ganon stages" where you have to use a certain character. No trailer or anything that I've read has ever addressed this as far as I know.
Agreed. I love all things Mario but I couldn't imagine limiting myself to just a Nintendo console. There's just so many other games out there that will never grace a Nintendo platform.
I admit that I am not too excited about these things, however, my girlfriend is going to absolutely love them, so I know what I'm getting her for Christmas
Every SNES classic that I want I already have downloaded on my Wii. Don't get me wrong I love this idea for people who aren't in my boat, but Nintendo loves to sell us the same game 10 times over, and I don't buy into that on principle.
Out of all the trailers for this game that NL has posted in recent weeks this is the only one that failed to get me excited. That's just not my fighting style I guess.
Still, can't wait for this game!! And I'm really looking forward to trying Lana out.
It's not a tablet. It's a clunky controller that can only be used with the Wii U and for nothing else. A tablet can go anywhere with you and can do countless things that the GamePad can not. The GamePad is just a Pro Controller with a screen slapped in the middle of it.
I don't mean to sound like a hater here. I enjoy my Wii U and it's got some fantastic games, but all of those games I play with a Pro Controller unless I have to use the GamePad (Nintendo Land, about 3 levels in Mario 3D World, etc.)
The best game on the system (in my opinion) is Tropical Freeze. What exactly does that game do with the GamePad? Oh that's right - nothing.
"this isn't your typical Zelda title and anyone expecting a similar experience to that seen in Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword is going to come away sorely disappointed."
Wonderful!! I couldn't stand either of those games. I can't wait to play this game this fall. I've always loved the Zelda characters and lore, but hated the puzzles and gameplay of the series. I don't care how repetitive this game is - it looks fun and not everything out there needs to be incredibly deep and involving. Sometimes it's fun to just mindlessly kill 1000s of enemies. Those who want something different are welcome to go replay Wind Waker HD again or else wait for the proper Zelda title next year.
With games such as Tropical Freeze, 3D World, and Mario Kart 8 it's your own fault if you weren't already wooed.
To me it's all about the games. I will not be part-taking in the amiibo craze and my girlfriend and I will be playing Smash Bros. with our Pro Controllers, however, if all this extra stuff helps Nintendo's profits then all the power to them.
Can I just say that out of everything that Nintendo had to show at E3 this year that this title is the one that I am looking forward to the most. I've always loved the Zelda universe (love their characters and stages in Smash Bros. for example) but never actually enjoyed the Zelda games due to the fact that I hate puzzles. Well, this game seems to be absolutely perfect for me: being able to play as Zelda and Midna, fast-paced combat without the hint of a puzzle, and a graphical style that I prefer to the open-world Zelda Wii U? This game seems to be everything I've always wanted. Can't wait!
Oh, and the timeline stuff doesn't really bother me.
I really don't think that this game is my cup of tea, but I love that Nintendo has got a new IP on its hands. That it's an online shooter (as cute as it is) proves that they are branching out and trying new things. I hope this game is successful for them.
No, just no. I've grown up with Nintendo, I'm turning 27 at the end of June, and I will never buy into this. I don't care how popular these figures become. I will have no part of this. I'll continue to play my games the way I always have - without the need of additional plastic toys for "bonus content."
Gaming is expensive enough as it is. I know that it can be very tempting, but try to not waste your money on this stuff that you don't really need, folks. Smash Bros. will be just fine without this.
Nintendo should make a patch which actually balances the item system in Grand Prix mode. You don't need coins when you're in first - you need something that you can actually defend yourself with.
I'm sick of being hit with a boomerang, then a lightning bolt, then a green shell. This is by far the most unfair Grand Prix mode in any Mario Kart game. Being able to defend against a blue shell doesn't really matter when you can't defend against red or green shells half the time.
I only play Vs. Mode now with all the items turned off. It's the only way for the races to be decided with skill. The items seriously take away from my enjoyment of this otherwise fantastic game.
It's funny, I haven't played the game once since I reached 1 million coins. That grind, and with essentially ZERO reward for actually reaching that milestone, completely killed my desire to ever play the game again.
But anyways that's just me. As a pre-installed game on a handheld that is marketed towards children I think this is a good idea.
But I thought the Wii U GamePad was the way of the future?? I love how one of Nintendo's biggest Wii U games is now being marketed with a controller from two generations ago.
I rather like my Pro Controller and will use that for Smash Bros., thank you very much. People act like Smash Bros. is unplayable with anything but a GameCube controller.
I beat Wind Waker HD with my Pro Controller. I can adjust for Smash Bros. as well. I'm not spending any more money on Nintendo controllers this generation. My Wii U already has the pointless GamePad, three Wii-motes, and two Pro Controllers. Enough is enough.
The Pro Controller is great, comfortable, and perfectly suitable for Smash Bros.
I'd certainly prefer a 'Nintendo Kart' to a Mario Kart/Sonic racing game crossover.
I agree that there is potential here, and I'm sure that Nintendo would be smart about it. Kirby or Link appearing in Mario Kart certainly seems better than Baby Rosalina and Pink Gold Peach...
I've been on the record before saying that I am not generally a big fan of DLC. That said, if any Nintendo title could/should benefit from DLC it is Mario Kart in my opinion. I would like retro courses to be provided as DLC, and while I'm disappointed that it did not receive more votes, my second choice would be the return of Challenge mode a la Mario Kart DS.
No I agree with you. It's not exactly a 'shocking reveal' when all they're doing every few weeks is confirming that people from Brawl are returning. I eagerly await the stunning reveal of Falco next time around.
That said, 6 newcomers have been confirmed, all 6 of which are perfectly unique, so there is that.
If this means that the game will be ANYTHING like Skylanders than count me out. I'm turning 27 in June and I am not buying toys in order to access content that is already on the disc.
If these toys are merely optional than that's entirely different. I will simply ignore that optional content, much like I ignore the GamePad when the Pro Controller is an option.
I think I'll actually enjoy this more than a core 3D Zelda game. I hate puzzles and just want to fight bad guys, so this could get some serious mileage on my Wii U.
I'm not really a Zelda fan, but I am still keeping an open mind about this one. I like that Nintendo is trying something new with one of their biggest IPs. Looking forward to some new info on the game at E3.
It really is too bad that Mario Kart DS is the only entry in the series with that wonderful Challenge Mode. I had a lot of fun with that back in the day. Obviously I'm still super excited for Mario Kart 8, but the inclusion of that mode really would have put the package over the top in my opinion.
Nintendo needs to stop trying to redefine everything about the video game industry. Just make great games with a normal controller like you did for the first 20 years before the Wii came along.
The reason I now own a PS3 and spend nearly all my gaming time on that console is because Nintendo turned me off their own products through their insistence that everything is better with motion control or a GamePad.
You've obviously done your homework and you're absolutely right about that attach right being a huge issue for Nintendo. Mario Kart 8 is going to be wonderful, but I think that one title can only go so far. Hopefully the one-two punch of Mario Kart and Smash Bros. finally being on the market by the end of the year will help.
That GamePad is still the biggest problem for me. Nintendo's own games hardly use it, and if they can't be bothered to think of unique ideas than why should third-parties? Three stages requiring it in Mario 3D World and using it as a map display in Mario Kart aren't really selling points or even necessary. And who is going to want to play Smash Bros. with that controller? Regardless, part of the major appeal of Smash Bros. is playing with three of your buddies on the couch. Only one person can use the GamePad at a time... do you put in some GamePad specific stuff and leave the other three players at a dis-advantage? I certainly hope not. I know when I play it with my friends we'll all have Pro Controllers in our hands, just like we all played Brawl with GameCube pads.
I'm surprised they're not releasing this on the Wii U Virtual Console... apparently releasing old games through that service is their big master plan for saving that system.
Edited by user: Seriously though, I'm not a Pokémon fan, but I am happy for everybody who's excited about this news and I hope they enjoy it this fall.

It is interesting that this might happen given the Rayman Legends debacle, but I think he'd be a nice addition to the roster.
