Re: Former Criterion Boss Alex Ward Laments Issues With Releasing Need For Speed On Wii U

Maybe this explains why Most Wanted U froze/crashed about a dozen times on my console before I finally decided to get rid of it. My failed experience with Most Wanted U is what finally convinced me to buy a PS3 where I can actually play racing/third-party games that don't freeze every 5 minutes.

Also, 2010's Hot Pursuit is a much better game than Most Wanted, but I'm just not a fan of Most Wanted's open world style.

I agree with you. I thought that they disrupted the flow and pace of the game, even on the PS3 where Murphy is controlled with the circle button as opposed to the GamePad... the levels where you don't have to micro-manage more than one character are simply more enjoyable. The only reason the Murphy levels were even in the game was so Ubisoft could do something unique with the GamePad (in my opinion, anyways... not like they were in Rayman Origins).

I don't think you need to worry. I think most people have taken notice to Gamespot and their ways. I know I certainly tend to ignore their reviews. At the end of the day you and I are both going to love Tropical Freeze, so who cares what score Gamespot gave it.

To be fair, I did enjoy the checkpoints mid-boss battle in Rayman Legends, but I would never ding a platformer for not including those. Like you said, for 30 years platformers have had you re-start a boss battle from the beginning if you die, so why should that be held against this one.

Typical Gamespot. When the majority of respected game-sites are in general agreement I know I can always count on them to be the outlier and say "hey now, this game is exactly average." I love how everybody seems to think that the level design is top-notch in Tropical Freeze, while they said it was "unimaginative."

Great review, Thomas. Can’t wait for this one! I certainly understand and respect your few complaints, but as somebody who is not a real fan of the GamePad and who had planned to play this as a solely single-player experience I am really happy if those are the only real drawbacks that you see.

Re: Just 2% of Ubisoft's Q3 Sales Were for Wii U

larry_koopa

I know the fanboys hate Ubisoft for what they're doing, but purely from a business standpoint the numbers simply and clearly are not there. If Ubisoft's games don't sell on Nintendo's hardware then you really can't blame them for not focusing on the platform. It's not Ubisoft's job to try and keep Nintendo afloat; they're only concerned with their own bottom line.

It's really an unfortunate reality. I've supported Nintendo my whole life and enjoy my Wii U. Tough times though.

Re: A Sonic Boom Game is Dashing Towards Wii U and 3DS

I have never been a Sonic fan and am proud of the fact that I have never even owned a Sonic game, but still, I love the fact that Sega is redesigning the characters and is at least trying something new.

I'll still never buy the game, but hopefully people who are actually fans of the series will get behind this and support it.

I really like how Nintendo is constantly trickling out info on this game with screen shots every couple of days. I think it's a neat way to hype up the game and to sustain interest. I much prefer this to getting info on a game once and then not hearing about it for months on end (Yarn Yoshi anybody??)

I kind of wish that Nintendo would give Mario Kart 8 the same type of treatment that they're giving Smash Bros.
