Disney's lovely, magical take on the life sim genre, Disney Dreamlight Valley, hits Early Access at the beginning of September. And while the upcoming game is going free to play in 2023, if you want to get in early, you'll have to pay the price of admission from one of three Founder's Packs.
All three Founder's Packs are available to pre-order now on the Switch eShop, and if you adopt and join Early Access in the first week of release, you'll get two bonus cosmetics — a Donut Headband and a frankly adorable Choco Crocodile animal companion.
Why it's not called a Chocodile though, is beyond us!
If you want to get started on the game while it's in Early Access, here's what each Founder's Pack will get you.
Standard Edition
- $29.99
- Early Access
- Two wearable items
- Nine decoration items
- Three design motifs (usable with The Touch of Magic, an in-game tool to create clothes)
Deluxe Edition
- $49.99
- Early Access
- All cosmetics in the Standard Edition
- Celestial Sea Turtle companion
- Seven wearable items
- Ten decoration items
- Three design motifs
- Deluxe Jersey and Mickey Mouse Donut Headband
Ultimate Edition
- $69.99
- Early Access
- All cosmetics in the Standard and Deluxe Editions
- Regal Fox companion
- Four wearable items
- 14 decoration items
- Three design motifs
- Ultimate Jersey and Mickey Mouse Donut Headband
We don't know exactly when Disney Dreamlight Valley is going free-to-play next year, but Gameloft has promised that all in-game purchases will simply be cosmetic, so there should be no need to worry about grinding to progress through the game.
The game is also available on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox — as well as Game Pass, where you can also try out the Early Access.
Will you be dipping your toes in Dreamlight Valley? Wave your wand and let us know!

Man I seriously can't wait for this I will get the early access
Question : Will you be dipping your toes in Dreamlight Valley?
Me : Still same answer, NO !!!
I'm against free 2 play practice.
This link is only for the US, I suppose?
Paying to get early access to a free to pay game, yeah.. I'll PASS.
Pay for early access to a F2P game... all microtransactions are purely "cosmetic"... in a life sim game where the only point is to have the cosmetically nicest town or home or what have you.
Ka-ching?
it looks like a next-generation Sims.
i can't help but compare the graphics to zuckerberg's infamous metaverse pic from twitter a few days ago... I bet he'd love meta's version to look as good as disney's
F2P games aren't all bad. Warframe, Path of Exile, Dauntless, Genshin Impact, Destiny 2...are all really great. But I think this sim-life game will be strictly for the Disney fans.
Do people really pay 70$ for a f2p game?
Shame
Sounds like more free 2 play get your kids addicted to gamling bs that all parents seems to be okay with since the appstore was invented..
Speaking of free-to-play, does Disney's other free-to-play game, the racer "Disney Speedstorm", which is due out in - checks calendar - Summer 2022 - have a release date yet? Maybe they're still trying to figure out how much money to charge people to play that free-to-play game?🤑
that buzz lightyear outfit is very nice
In Australia it is:
$44.95 for the Standard Edition
$74.95 for the Deluxe Edition
$104.95 for the Ultimate Edition
Yep, keep dreaming… 😆
Wait.. the paid Early Access content is coming to Game Pass? So it's free access to paid for content on a F2P game?
@rjejr
I'm sure they'll figure it out.
Disney Animal Crossing
It's a trap. Do not pay for this. Buy a real game instead.
I’m confused, if I have game pass I automatically get the founder pack? I just let mine lapse, so does anyone know? I’d definitely renew it if so.
That is it. No more Disney. So much what ketrac wrote.
Like ... I know in my heart there is about a 90% chance this game is going to suck, a 9% chance it's going to be offensively awful, and about a 1% chance that it will be any good ... but damn if it doesn't LOOK like it could be something.
Free on gamepass, so I guess I'll fire it up and see.
Yeah I am holding off until I get a full list of who will be in it. Need at least Mulan, Moana and Tiana. Would do nearly anything for Elisa Maza.
Only Disney adults would fall for this.
Why would I pay 30 dollars when it’s going to be free to play later?
At least it’s cosmetics only and not P2W.
@Magician you forgot cookie run ovenbreak!
(Seriously that game is beyond generous with its gems along with its mileage system allowing you to get whatever cookie you want)
@k8sMum Hey mum!! I'm sure they'll figure it out, but in the meantime my calendar driven brain is breaking. 😂 I'm still looking forward to it though as we only own MK8 on the Wii U so we haven't been able to play any of the DLC tracks. I'm not double dipping for a kart game. 😝
As a Disney fan and someone who’s stopped playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons, this should definitely be something to consider, though I think I’ll still wait for reviews and I would just get the Standard Edition. This game should be better than the atrocious Switch port of Disney Magical World 2 at least.
Free-to-Play doesn’t really bother me, especially since this game doesn’t seem to have gacha mechanics that I truly dislike, such as paying for just the random chance to get what I want. There’s none of that here.
A little peeved that they would lock that regal fox behind a $70 paywall for a f2p game. Guess I should have expected this kind of thing from a monopoly like Disney.
