Re: Sakurai Can't Imagine Future Super Smash Bros. Games Without His Involvement

jedisquidward

Sakurai is not being unreasonable with this statement. Of course, when you take a single line and make an article out of it, even if you elaborate, people are only going to read that and not actually watch the full video. Never mind this statement wasn't actually said; this was translated from another language where the form and tone can be very different.

Re: Miyamoto Talks About Other Nintendo Movies, Says There's "Probably Nothing To Announce In The Near Future"

jedisquidward

OMG WE TOTALLY NEED A NINTENDO CINEMATIC UNIVERSE!!! SMASH BROS IS LIKE THE AVENGERS OF VIDEO GAMES!!!

No. Things take time to be done well. The first movie came out TODAY and already people are asking about a sequel. It's like a child writing their list for next year an hour after opening their Christmas gifts. If a movie is good, it should have its own time to breathe and be appreciated, and if you want a series to be good, you have to give it time to develop.

Re: Creatures Inc. Undertakes A Significant Change In Leadership

When something like this occurs seemingly out of the blue, there is probably a lot more going on than just a (in the grand scheme of things) small number of people complaining about the quality of the newest entries, especially when they have performed about on par financially with the others and there has not been a downward trend. It makes me wonder what has been going on behind the scenes that would cause this to happen.

Re: Nintendo Minute Videos Are Being Set To Private On Nintendo's YouTube Channel

Wow, great rationalization from the comments here. "Good riddance" "Nothing of value was lost". Jesus Christ, you people come off as so petty. I didn't watch the videos but it's pretty forced to take them all down like that. It's like when there were articles about Reggie Fils-Aime's book being published on this site; lots of "Who cares" and "Good riddance" comments as if you people weren't sharing the gif of the train in space with Reggie's face on it every time there was a Nintendo Direct announcement.

Re: Smash World Tour Announces Cancellation After Notice From Nintendo

As someone who is a die-hard Smash Bros fan who does play competitively, though not in tournaments, it always makes me sigh when there are articles like this. I can see a little bit of everybody's perspective and I also think that everyone involved is mischaracterizing the situation, and that isn't even taking into account how reporting on a topic will inevitably leave out certain details and create a "biased" report in one way or another.

It seems pretty clear that the CEO of PandaGlobal has been guilty of shady activity, though Nintendo continues to be perpetually Nintendo, so there's blame on both sides up top. On the bottom, the people talking about it are both likely to be wrong as well.

On one side, you have the hardcore competitive r/smashbros people who insist they are the "true" fans while only playing one mode and like 5 stages, often caring more about the people who play the game rather than the game itself. They will inevitably take this story to further their own narrative of "big, evil Nintendo hating the fans".

On the other side, you have a lot of people, a lot of them on this website, who view players who genuinely enjoy the game competitively as a rogue agent somehow "ruining" was what was "originally just a fun party game" (which I will stand firm in saying has always been a misunderstanding of the series).

Re: Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! 'Let's Sing ABBA' Brings Band's Biggest Hits To Switch

jedisquidward

Never did I think a game could eclipse Smash Ultimate...

UNTIL TODAY

To those who are ABBA-haters, what is it like to not understand love, joy, and freedom? Underneath the veil of "cheese" lies a band full of unexpected maturity. To those who think it is nothing but Facebook-Mom soft listening, have you heard their songs about political prisoners during the fall of the Soviet Union, or the tale of the mythical Cassandra, or the final fading moments of consciousness before we die?

Surely, this will go down as one of the greatest games in history.

Re: Tetsuya Nomura Reveals He Was "Picky" About Sora In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

jedisquidward

@Kage_M The idea that characters need to be chosen based off of how "faithful" they are to Nintendo hardware has always been a fan rule. Going on about how Square or Kingdom Hearts doesn't "deserve it" in some way is trying to moralize it in a way that doesn't really pertain to the mindset of the developers. I don't have any personal connection to Sora and of course I would have loved Doomslayer or someone like that as well, but to come to an article made 8 months later about this character that was a bonus and that extra time and effort and exceptional negotiation went into and the ONLY response is "who cares about this, it should have been MY favorite character" is just so immature.

Re: NoA President Responds To Alleged Working Conditions At Nintendo, Finds Reports "Troubling"

jedisquidward

@Andy_Witmyer Some people have watched so much Ben Shapiro / Matt Walsh / Jordan Peterson that it infects their minds to the point that they're convinced EVERY negative thing that happens in the world is actually "fake news" or "blown out of proportion" or "taken out of context" by the EEEEVILLLL SINISTER LIBERALS with their victim complexes. If YouTube existed 100 years ago, we would see "Anti Child Labor Cringe Compilation" and a bunch of people talking about how "kids today are too pampered because they aren't dying in textile factories and how _____ group of people is trying to DESTROY AMERICA!"

We could see things as they are, recognizing both the good and bad of something we love, like Nintendo, but that's too hard. It's much easier to create a social boogeyman to blame everyone's problems on.

Re: Review: Disrupting The Game: From The Bronx To The Top Of Nintendo - Reggie Fils-Aimé

jedisquidward

As someone who is about 60% through the book, I think it's a worthwhile purchase. I also think it would be a missed opportunity to view the book simply as a way to extract a few more pieces of gaming trivia to add to your probably giant collection of gaming trivia already while disregarding everything else said. The term "executive" has become pretty nebulous in its actual definition so it's great to see detailed examples of these spaces, what they actually do, and how someone may personally navigate these spaces. Well, the good executives, anyway. The ones who don't harass employees and then leave with hundreds of millions in severance as a reward. Reggie very clearly has a desire and passion for this kind of problem solving and based on what I've read, it's interesting to see his way of thinking, even if it is sprinkled in with a slight tone of self-congration.
