There are some moments in gaming that are so memorable that they deserve to be celebrated in some meaningful way, and that's exactly what Pixel Frames is offering.
The company produces officially-licenced shadow boxes that are "snapshots that perfectly convey your love for retro gaming" and cover franchises such as Mega Man, Street Fighter, Sonic and Battletoads.
In each one, the foreground, midground, and background are "layered and distanced" in order to add a sense of depth which makes the image come alive. "Each layer is laser cut, then inserted into a foam backing that holds each popular scene at a different point of depth to add a 3D feel to 2D retro games," Pixel Frames says.
We were lucky enough to be sent a selection of these products, and the quality is impressive; the build quality and materials are both excellent, and the 3D effect is seriously striking – especially when hung on your office or bedroom wall in just the right place. And because they're quite compact frames, there's the temptation to arrange them in groups, which looks even more appealing.
Of particular note in the new range is a Pixel Frame based on the iconic 2004 Street Fighter III: Third Strike battle in which 9-time EVO champion Justin Wong was beaten at the last moment by the legendary Daigo Umehara – an event which has become known as "EVO Moment 37".
Are you tempted to pick any of these up to hang on your wall? Let us know with a comment.
Thanks to Pixel Frames for sending us the products seen in this article.

These look really cool, looks similar to some of the pixel art dioramas I've seen on etsy!
Video Game Shadow Box did this years ago. I also saw an official Castlevania version of this same concept years ago. This is not the first time it's been done.
Thus is easy to replicate unfortunately so will not be a success.
I think I'm going to get creative and make some of these myself. What an absolutely great idea!
This is a nice product, but at circa 30 quid and a limited selection, I think I'd much rather make one myself - which is really not too difficult to do.
Printer, quality paper, high res images, knife and mat, glue and a steady hand! The frame would cost a fiver tops - or buy a much nicer one. You wouldn't want to make many of them yourself... but the one or two you'd actually display are definitely achievable.
I wonder if they would be willing to do GBA games under this because it would definitely be really cool to have something like a Gen 3 Shiny Pokemon hung up in this 3D-esque effect.
I've seen these for years on sites like Etsy, so it's surprising there haven't been more officially licensed ones out there. They're the kind of thing that would do well on actual shelves where they can catch your eye and you can really see how the layering makes them pop.
Physical NFT's.
Looks like a great idea and should be popular.
Neat idea. They look very easy to make yourself, so I might just do that!
Those are pretty rad!
Nintendo Life once showcased this exact same idea a few years back.
Guess that's cool for something anyone could print out and assemble in a couple of minutes.
Yeah definitely something I’d rather make by myself. The quality would suffer but I’m not opposed to dropping $30 at Michael’s and trying my hand at something new.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail I shouted DAIGO!
I dont understand the other moments. Third strike makes sense, but the others are just scene.
They’re ok. I thought about buying one, but then realized I could make one myself. On top of that, I was highly disappointed that they wouldn’t add LEDs to these. Why not make the shine in the night too?
