They held out longer than I thought they would, even if it was only a little under five years, they held out longer than some games with bigger backing over that same timeframe.
I don't really see how the announcement would impact the steam deck, it was never going to do numbers like the switch lineup. That said, aside from the actual Nintendo games, most of the games are going to be cheaper on the deck than the switch down the line.
I'm still waiting for Metroid prime 4 and now that amazon cancelled my preorder fron 2018 (the year I got the switch), I guess I don't have to worry about any possible double dip scenario.
The PlayStation and the Xbox having different games for a good portion of the time 2 was out is a weird choice, but I guess it worked out for aquire in the end. I got 2 earlier this year but still haven't played more than the 30 mins I spent on the demo last year. Seeing this at closing time, really does solidify the fact I believe 2024 was one of the best years for RPGs I've ever personally experienced.
@SuperBloodborneMaker I'm not sure anybody is jealous over Sony's "dominance", their former president did claim decades later that the PS2 sold more than reported simply because the switch was gaining on it.... Sounds pretty petty and ridiculous to most people.
As a lifelong Zelda fan I hate to say... I actually haven't beaten this ganandorf and I don't even care enough to try. I was looking forward to the game since I didn't really like breath of the wild so I figured the sequel would at least be better (I mean I liked Majora's mask more than ocarina so I had an example), I hate these particular Zelda games though.
@Crono1973 I mean, just me myself I had 4 ps2s alone and my brother got one. My original and his both broke, I got another one when they dropped the newer sku and then I bought a black and finally a silver ps2 slim, I know I'm not the only person that had a household with multiple... Especially since it doubled as a DVD player.
I pre-ordered the monarch edition once the game went up for preorder.... For the Xbox. I have no clue why I got it on the Xbox since I know it will sell the least on it (although the people that do own the game have played the hell out of it going by achievement %).
I've been having a much better time with it than FF7 Rebirth that's for sure... Something about being free of questionable minigames and final segments holding you hostage really is a breath of fresh air.
I hate them both, I fully went into 2018 buying a switch expecting to enjoy the new Zelda games (link's awakening did achieve that and even skyward sword), but now all of my hope is on Samus' shoulders because Link's latest adventures have let me down thoroughly.
@Grail_Quest I'd be lying if I said I was surprised by that number. The Xbox hasn't been great for Japanese games pretty much ever and this is the very first vanillaware game on the platform... I got the collector's edition for it, but I really don't know why I bothered, my purchase won't convince anybody people actually buy games on it.
I kind of hate this comes out after the persona 4 special edition one, I'd have gladly gotten one if they were announced around the same time.... I also still kind of hate these swappable thumb sticks on handhelds, the things fly off the joystick with minimal interaction and have you looking for them more than using them sometimes.
@DiamondJim It was made during what many would considers square's best days, but personally I didn't like it back then and while I'm currently enjoying it a little I do wish this was a full on remake to bring it up to modern standards so I agree with you on those 2 (well I haven't played octopath 2 but I liked the first one).
@calbeau I've both the split pad pro and the split pad mini, I loved the pro but I think the mini is even better (partly to do with the fact my pro pads don't lock into place anymore so the slightest bump sends them out of place), I definitely feel the same way about them as you, even though I did order the nitrodeck.
@JayJ The steam decks placement is great... however if people are playing like overwatch or any shooters I wouldn't really recommend it. It could just be what I was playing, but I recently played the first descendant beta on it and I was having all kinds of problems with aiming (I also have borderlands 3 which I didn't have much problems with and Tina's wonderland that I just started so the jury's still out).
Nah fam the next Nintendo console has to have backwards compatibility, they've stopped selling the de/3ds so you already can't play half the game from the previous console gen so if you stop the switch as well that's pretty much every single game they've made in the last 11 years up in smoke.... that people purchased.
Digital purchases at least if not the physical ones, I kind of hope Metroid prime 4 hasn't switched which console it's coming to, the thing that made me pull the trigger on the switch was Metroid and if all I have to look forward to is a surprise Metroid game and not the one I was actually waiting on (I loved dread to be clear though) Nintendo might be joining Sony and Microsoft as me not being with them moving forward.
This was the only star ocean game I've ever played fully (I do have the one that shouldn't be mentioned, the last hope and first departure, but haven't spent much time with any of them), so I was definitely ready for this remaster since I missed it on the psp. Really hoping vagrant story and maybe brave fencer musashi can also get some love.
@Bl4ckb100d You cant tell a guy that it's a great show and then forget about... perhaps one of the worst arcs in the history of media that wasted 8 weeks of people's real time... Ah I hated endless 8 so much I thought I was going crazy
I'm not really playing much of anything, I did start ghostwire Tokyo and was enjoying it for a while, but now I just really wanna wrap it up but don't feel like actually playing it.
After a few recommendations around here about 13 sentinel aegis I had a great time with that and just really haven't been able to commit to anything Ive tried to play since, I was also playing persona 3 along with that so I'm probably just really in need of a game I can turn off my brain for.
@Farts_Ahoy If you're on that ski trip, that means you're probably on path for perhaps the sorriest dungeon ever made.... And then after that one last attempt to fight the actual final final final boss of the game.
@Serpenterror There was also the terrible original design for sonic... And covid to deal with. All in all I'd say both sonic films over-performed given his status at the time.
@Axecon It's a collection of nearly 30 year old 2d games that as far I know weren't even advertised much since it keep being delayed, even selling half a mil would have been a feat.
I've had the FF4 collection (the one that came with Chrono trigger) collecting dust for decades, maybe now that I can play 6 and 3 again along with all the ones I actually haven't played, I may get around to actually experiencing cecil's story.
As much as I loved BoF 3 and 4 I would rather have a new game. The last new one I had to play was that terrible dragon quarter (FF13 copied the worst aspect of that game). Need to see Ryu and Nina in a new adventure before I get back to the old ones.
@Kimyonaakuma Lol it's a bit wild one of those games costs more than both persona games whether you buy them in the bundle or apart. I'm actually interested in these because I've really been trying to play all the RPGs I missed that were released on handhelds that skipped under my radar while I had them, but this is just goofy.
@steely_pete If Microsoft were the reason these types of cameos stopped to match platform parity, we wouldn't still be getting things like the same 100 dollars for red dead 2 getting you less on the Xbox than the PlayStation or years of destiny content also only on the PlayStation before they bought Bungie. There's also been no actual stop to cameos in soul calibur, Link hasn't appeared again probably because of Nintendo. Star wars, nier and Witcher characters have all been in since and link was the only one that was actually a first party character in that situation when the game originally came out.
I'd rather just have a new soul calibur, than play 2 again, the link cameo was nice especially when you consider some genius thought spawn was both a good fit for the Xbox and that his kit wasn't pure garbage. I liked Heihachi the most though, because throwing hands against fools with a sword was just satisfying to me, but that's because I was always a bigger Tekken fan and played with him and kazuya the most so I was right at home.
@Samalik What do you mean he didn't become his own character until the 4th game? You referring to story or gameplay, because nothing had changed much for him in the 3games I'd played until then (never played 3 or 5 but know he wound up with soul calibur in 3).
@Nanami_Ataraxia I can't speak to the ryza games since I still haven't gotten far in them, but you really don't need to wait for replicant to play automata, they're not so intertwined you'd miss anything playing it first (since you'd already be missing some since drakengard 3 isn't available). If the switch ever does get replicant you'll be able to appreciate the story that much more, at least that's how it was for me.
I mean I'm all for trying new things... But I really just need a good Zelda game, I don't need it to change the gaming world, Breath of the wild tried that and I actually hate it for that since it felt like such an empty game. I shouldn't even be looking forward to this game because of the previous one, but as long as the ammo clips have been done away with or at least making the weapons repairable, I can still enjoy it.
I keep hearing how great the game is, I checked it out back when it was first released... And I didn't have a damn clue what the hell I was doing. I'll probably eventually get back to it when I'm out of I just needed a new game to fill the void of spending so much time finishing another mode.
It's kind of funny I actually bought the first ryza when it went on sale for like 35 dollars for the deluxe, have no clue why either, then got the ultimate version of ryza 2 also on sale... I hadn't even actually started the first one at the time so that was even weirder, now here I am considering the 3rd and both Sophie games and I'm just now actually starting the first ryza... That's the main reason I really didn't care for the game.
