@Donutman Well to be fair, nowadays buying a game boy would be way out of touch since they stopped making them 15 years ago and buying one device that can play games and do other stuff is an easier sell.
That Pokemon edition of the switch lite is definitely sweet, I'd get one eventually, but I don't wanna have to buy another satisfye grip for the lite model.
@rxchrisg It's not actually about Bayonetta though, if platinum and Microsoft had actually gotten scalebound out and it was good, instead of trying to clown Microsoft with the no games thing (as I'm told it's because all their games are on PC which Sony is looking like they'll also be doing in the future), they'd have review bombed that as well because they're childish as hell.
Basically these people just want every game ever made to be on the Playstation, but not any of the 3rd party titles only on the Playstation to be available anywhere else so they'll make their feelings known.
@rxchrisg I mean to be fair, Bayonetta 2 was a pretty good game, so I can imagine the salt. Some still haven't recovered from rise of the tomb raider and that was only for 1 year. Nevermind the fact they have street fighter 5 even if it is/was bad.
The only complaints I have with the game (minor ones really) are the mouths not lining up sometimes with what the characters are saying, the fact you have the option to change outfit colors but actually can't at least 5 cases in, and the lack of a jump button without the legion.
The last bit is particularly hard for me to get used to because it's the only platinum game I've ever played so far without one so it just feels weird, the game is great though, so these reviews shouldn't even be taken with a grain of salt
Heh... I think the real thing to take away from this, is that the smash logo is so generic we could also say hibari from senran kagura and Nia from gurren lagann are also possible candidates.
@Yorumi Is Animal crossing really going to be that though? I've never played a game in the series so I'm legitimately asking. As of right now Mario kart has that title and the Pokemon games everybody wanted last year are kicking off the holiday season this year and even those games that did come out in these new ones place did well.
All I really want from this thing is battletoads and double dragons, TMNT turtles in time, Yoshi's island, that Incredible hulk game, final fight 2 last round, Saturday night slam master, and maybe marvel super heroes war of the gems.
All of those are Snes games though and for anybody that doesn't have nostalgia for the nes, the wait for every other Nintendo system will probably last longer than this console's lifespan.
@ThanosReXXX Ha, I saw a comment on push square that was pretty much exactly like you've said. Saying the switch's hardware was garbage and people were waiting on the one good Nintendo game to come out, while going on to talk about the ps4s total sales. Another one said Japan is becoming less relevant (all of a sudden) because of this.
@JaxonH I mean, it is still an indie game after all, and it has outsold hollow knight which was available on more platforms for longer. The fact that either of these games managed to sell over 2 million is impressive on its own though.
Ha "platform of choice" no Xbox option though. That aside, there's a real missed opportunity to have each platform color coded, I think there was even a green background for the non-existent Xbox version.
@DavidMac Considering a hypothetical switch xl would already cost more than a 300 dollar version, and you're comparing a dedicated gaming device to a phone, I don't think it's that much of a stretch to still be cheaper than a note. It'll be more expensive than it is now sure, but definitely not 1k considering Samsung has 10 inch tablets fitted with amoled and they're cheaper than the iPad pros.
I get what you're saying though, I just like oled screens, so the cost of manufacturing can't drop fast enough for me.
@Simonmoskovits I wouldn't mind having the screen be bigger myself, but I kind of want an oled screen on it more, the color vibrancy can really help some games out (like xenobalde or Bayonetta) and it could help with viewing things on Hulu, YouTube and that comic app (and Netflix whenever they pick up the ball they dropped).
@FX102A Heh, don't forget pubg also launched day and date with smash Bros... I'm not saying it had anything to do with the sales, but jokingly it very well could have.
@gaby_gabito @OorWullie If you guys haven't played the first one but really enjoyed Bayonetta 2 I don't know if it's be a good idea to play the first one. I had it when it was new on ps3 and I enjoyed it, but I got the 2nd one for the switch and tried to play it again since it was a game with gold, it's something about the combat and the dodging specifically that is off if you play the first one in retrospect. All I can say is Nintendo did a really good job helping with the sequel.
I kind of agree about Zelda, but not Mario. Especially after the last guardian thing, that is a funny example when he could have used one of a number of PS4 games that hit the ground running. Klunky controls may be his thing though, considering they said nothing about katamari's control scheme has been updated.
Assuming all of that ad money really was to curb attention for Spider-Man (I highly doubt it though), Nintendo instead could have probably spent that on a game releasing within that time frame... Ha, a paper Mario or something (although it'd have to be another 3rd party exclusives instead of a Nintendo game since they're mostly spent for now).
I knew this game was in the eShop for pre-purcalhase for a while but it really doesn't look like my thing, so that's partially on them.
However there are some things Nintendo needs to do to the eShop that would help alleviate this problem, and that's a ratings and a recommendation system based on purchased games.
@NewAdvent I'd start this one first, octopath can be long as hell, so it could probably hold you over until the next big release you're looking forward to.
@ShadJV Amazon doesn't even appear to have the bundle listed at all right now, would have been nice if they had announced the bundles earlier so there would be placeholders for them.
@Spudworthy There are already some games with achievements/trophies on the switch, hollow Knight, disgaea 5, and ice for example.
Since Nintendo is finally getting into the online arena, maybe they'll turn those in-game achievements into some kind of milestone tracking system. Sony didn't add the trophy system to the ps3 until around 08-09 so I guess it's possible.
Hopefully one of these Nintendo directs includes an overhaul to the store that brings them current with the rest of the digital storefronts with a ratings system. Kind of sucks having to check steam, the PlayStation and Xbox store for some game reviews of something I'm buying on a switch
@Rohanrocks88 This comment is kind of weird to me. Looking at the numbers from the DS and the Wii Nintendo definitely already played their cards right after the GameCube, the only real reason the Wii u did so bad compared to all their other systems is because they didn't do a good job of making it known this was a successor instead of what the PS4 pro or one x are now.
@nintendoPLAYROOM Is it any stranger than seeing Sonic appearing on almost every platform? Crash was only the PlayStation mascot for about 4 or 5 years, sonic was sega's mascot for console generations and now he's basically Mario's occasional gym buddy and an overall nomad.
I notice every time one of these articles about Nintendo's stock being low pops up, there's always mention of the Wii u for comparison. Problem with those Wii u comparisons are, there was no Zelda game for the system wind waker hd does not count as a system seller and there werent many available until well after launch and the name was just terrible and probably did the most harm since many probably didn't see it as a brand new system but an extension of the Wii, like the ps3 or Xbox 360 slim versions, with a game pad that made the price go up.
The Wii u did start them back down a path of getting more 3rd parties on board and we can see that with the current lineup of switch titles and how well some Indie games are doing, I was debating buying dead cells on my Xbox but Ithink I'm going to be playing all of those on the switch from now on, really just waiting on moonlighter and if pyre will make its way into the eShop along with freedom planet 2 before year's end.
I'm waiting for dead cells honestly, I'm getting the X collections (but not for the switch). Jopefully hyper light drifter, moonlighter, and pyre make their way into the eShop over the next couple months
@magnumc500 It's funny you mention golden sun, because while I was playing it yesterday, I also was reminded of golden sun (though I couldn't quite remember the first part of the name at the time), I'm hoping to see a golden sun collection and with Capcom bringing out these mega mans, hopefully a breath of fire collection (3 specifically) and a power Stone remake (a pipe dream).
@BlueOcean I have it and so far it's been techinally sound battles are smooth, no drop offs in visuals or performance. Only thing off about the game really is how the story is told, it's really weird having to stick with whoever you started out with for all the other 7 characters chapter ones and them not being present during that character's cutscenes.
If squareenix ever decided to remake final fantasy 6 and keep its artstyle similar to the original, I hope they make it like octopath, it's a good looking game and the attention to detail for some things is great, like the water effects and how the world map has little boats sailing across bodies of water.
@CCore28 That's not entirely true there, you do have the option to cancel a preorder on the psn or Xbox store, but they don't charge you for whatever game you pre-ordered until 7 days ahead of release, so if someone where to preorder shadow of the tomb raider today, they wouldn't be charged until September 7th. Best buy and Amazon also do it that way, Nintendo as far as I know (haven't done any from steam) is unique with the purchase being made the same day.
