@Heavyarms55 I wouldn't worry too much honestly. Companies have seemed to settle more and more about paid transactions, with only the greediest of companies and series still trying. I don't think we'll have a Shadow of War situation just because of Fortnite.
It seems that companies have only gathered one thing about Fortnites success... Battle Royale modes guarentee money. Gaming executives are pretty damn dumb haha.
@Equinox Key word is "marketed". You can believe whatever you want about whichever franchise (personally, I believe that James Bond is suited for kids though the marketing would label it the opposite). If you wanted to bring up a video game series that does not market to kids and is popular, then you could easily bring up GTA (Im sure you have some key words about that series as well).
@Equinox Have you ever looked at the best selling franchises of all time? Almost ALL of them are marketed towards children. To say it is only a fad is rubbish. Do you call Mario, Star Wars, Hello Kitty, Pokemon and Minecraft a fad even though they have lasted decades? I can't particularly say you are wrong, but your expectation reeks of "Its not suited for me, it will die soon."
And I don't get what is so wrong about its success. Epic is now funding more and more capital into the Unreal Engine. Better games that are NOT Fortnite will come your way, seems irrational to keep barking at a cloud that provides you rain
Who cares if someone cheats in pokemon go lol. Thing is a battery drain so I would do this just to save it. It really cant be morally wrong, especially now that pokemon go actually has connectivity to Lets Go. I really dont want to play it, and this mod would be perfect for me.
@Moroboshi876 They had a pretty in depth discussion about the changes they made in Donkey Kong Arcade, though you can pick which version you play there. Its all SUPER minor stuff, but I think they arent refering to changing the source code, just how you can play the different releases. Which would constitute a "change".
@Balladeer Hollow Knight released last year in reality, and won zero GOTY awards from my knowledge. It sucks but Cuphead just stormed all the indie awards (and you know they never make it to the triple A rewards becuz $$$). I doubt it will be able to run for awards again, but would be nice
Honestly, I'd go one step further and say many of modern games look identical, especially when you keep in the same genre. People can bring in all the examples they want against the mold, but there's too many that feel the same.
Not even saying thats a bad thing. Red Dead Redemption looks just like any other open world Rockstar game, but it is the standout one because of story and character. At this points visuals are second fiddle, but is that so wrong? I do appreciate companies like Nintendo that do change it up, but in the end, visuals don't make the game.
Alright! This game is the definition of Free to Play done right. There is incentive to purchase the micro-transactions but nothing manipulative and with a good base game package.
Isn't for everyone, but I implore anyone and everyone to try it.
I will never play, nor buy this game. But that header picture has given me a new epoch of joy that I will appreciate for years to come. Thank you Discovery!
Man, this is the most depressing comment section I've seen in a while. And I was here during the Wii U days!
Good idea of a game, never pulled me in as much as Sonic but the no touch damage feature legit made the game 100 times more fun than Sonic clones. Same with Spark the Electric Jester. I did really enjoy the sequels test demo on PC, so that's the one I'll be waiting for.
@Nintendofan83 ? Mario Kart is well past 8 million. Even on Wii U, it is at 8.42 million sold, easy to remember because it is the best selling game on the system, and its past 8 million for the 8th game.
If you're talking Switch its well past 8 million, passing nine million and still going.
The game doesn't really need to be a competitor, as long as it delivers a fun and interesting experience. I know many people who prefer Racing Transformed to Mario Kart, and while I disagree, I love that there's even an option, however niche it may be.
Thankfully Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed did in fact "crack a million". It deserved it, it had much less brand power than Mario but still was a success and a good game. I am not sure how well this one will sell, but if its as good or close to Transformed, I hope it's a lot.
M2 is a good developer, but what is the POINT of not using the Christian Whitehead Sonic 1 mobile port? It is legitimately the definitive version, but SEGA REFUSES to port it to pc or console. It's baffling, this whole SEGA AGES thing is pretty baffling. Would rather have the collection the other consoles are getting.
To be honest, Sonic CD feels more of the true successor to Sonic 1. Higher emphasis on platforming, dreamy aesthetics, and a darker motif. It isn't as highly regarded as Sonic 2, but it deserves some credit for really "feeling" like a sequel.
Though Sonic 2 was definitely the way to go. More accessible, more colorful, and more fun. STI NA definitely heralded the torch well for Classic Sonic.
Really slow week in japan eh? If the top game is less than 25k, guess it is kind of a lull. Especially considering Hyrule Warriors already released last month for them.
Though, I am real happy for DKTF. Deserves every sale it gets port or not. Wonder how Captain Toad will do.
Weird idea. The gameplay looks alright, but animation like this seems kinda unneeded? Very odd feeling to this game, seems more like they had the licenses for Blade Strangers and just plopped them into a easy to make crossover.
It is cool to see Astroboy... although I have no clue what it even amounts to haha.
Oh good you finally combined the PS4 numbers with the Pro. Smart, no real extra information can be learned from that (other than the advance of 4k which ehhhhh).
Sad to see Labo drop off but what can you do. I understand the critics and the fans but in the end, it's the sales that count.
"Arguably the Switch's lead title at Christmas, Super Mario Odyssey joins the console's "million seller" club, which now stands at an impressive 12 titles."
...Wait twelve? Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Splatoon, 1,2 Switch, ARMS, Xenoblade 2, Kirby, and Pokken. What's the other three? I mean maybe Sonic Mania but that's multi-plat (although undoubtedly it sold best on Switch).
@PhilKenSebben People said that? Jeez how ignorant can you be, Kirby is pretty popular in Japan and almost always guarantees a million seller worldwide (or more) for a mainline. Just because you don't want the game doesn't mean it will fail
Just waiting for the cancellation news anyday now, expecting it to be after the PS4 and PC release don't do so well. If they do well then I'll bite my tounge.
@Anti-Matter You can change the voice to Japanese with subtitles in the game if you really want. But Detective Pikachu sounds gruff no matter the language
@DTFaux It would definitely been cool if the development team would have the time/resources/reason to develop it for the Switch as well. However the game has been in development for a long time considering it was episodic.
Plus I don't think people are complaining simply because every "other" 1st party titles are coming to the Switch. When Sushi Striker was first revealed people had the same "Why isn't this on Switch?" reaction. Now that its on Switch you don't hear anyone singing the developers praises, because they never had interest to begin with.
@Paraka People want what they can't have. Some people actually called me a Nintendrone for defending the games on the 3DS haha.
More creativity than the last six pokemon games combined, means I will buy into it. Although I seriously cannot understand the nondesire to play a game just cause its on 3DS. It's not like its a hundred hours long lol.
Nothing wrong with that, they helped bolster the day one lineup and thats appreciated. Now that their mission is done they can move elsewhere. Although I doubt it will sell as much on a non launch day, no 8 player Bomberman.
Me personally, I got it for twenty bucks on Black Friday. Definitely worth twenty with the patches and the simple multiplayer fun. I suck at it though
Man what a weird game... people seem fond of it so I might as well try it, but why is it always finding its way back to my feeds more than other olden games?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm one of those people who aren't buying the dlc, just kinda forget tbh. Still haven't gotten Zelda, Mario Rabbids, or Xenoblade dlc even though I love all three games.
I don't hate digital games, but physical is what I desire. Its not even the wiiware being lost that annoys me, it annoyed me since I heard the Sattelaview and Sega Channel had upgrades to games like the original Zelda and Megaman the Wily Wars.
Problem mainly for me is that one whole dollar is expiring this month, I don't have time to accumulate much more and don't know if I can even get anything I want ever. Maybe the discounts will be better with the online will be better ¯(ツ)/¯
@retro_player_22 "Princess Elise" Haha imagine if SEGA actually brought back something from 06 without retconning it. Theres definitely plenty of characters they could go for, but I imagine it will be more compact like Forces (aka no Omega or Nack Bean Bark).
So Bayonetta isn't gonna be a guaranteed conclusion to the series, that's good. Would be interesting if it was a different witch (but then again it would still be called "Bayonetta").

@link3710 Cars 3: Driven to Win, Party Planet, Ben 10, RBI Baseball 17, Touhou Kabuto V: Burst Battle, WWE 2K18, Troll and I, Monster Jam:Crush It and Cartoon Network Battle Crashers. The moto racing games I didn't even think about because I'm not in the Pal region.
Sorry outnumber may have been hyperbolic, but I also know that the UIG is going to making a lot of shovelware. Along with this game I'm just a bit worried is all
Why does it seem like all the shovelware is getting physical releases? It's true for every console but, for the Switch, its starting to outnumber the good titles.

Where'd you get that twelve million seller titles number? I can't find it in the financial report whatsoever.
Re: Super Mario Odyssey Passes The 10 Million Sold Marker
@Yasume Thinking back, it may be Mario Rabbids. I say maybe because Ubisoft keeps it sales close to their chest.
Although I can't find any source to that Doom million claim. I thought Skyrim sold more than it?
Thats still only ten or maybe eleven, really whats that last one? Bomberman? Snipperclips? Or was I right with them counting Sonic Mania?
