It had to happen at some point. The Switch is selling well all over the world and that kind of commercial success logically leads to increased software support; while most of us are hoping for stuff like L.A. Noire, UIG Entertainment appears to be working at the opposite end of the spectrum.
The publisher has announced a slew of titles for Switch, none of which are likely to get your pulse racing unless you're a fan of obscure, bargain-basement titles developed on a shoestring budget.
Do any of these catch your eye? Do you think we're being unduly harsh on these titles? Let us know by digging deep into the comments section below.

No. Just no. Is this a spoof? It looks like a spoof. I choose spoof. Please be a spoof.
Take this as a sign of the system's success.
More games the better
i smell shovelware... 🤔
I'm a sucker for fantasy themes, so Realms of Arkania catches my eye. Not holding my breath for it to be anything worth my time, though...
And it begins...
Here's hoping they will be passable but forgettable
Wait, is those are Fake or Real ?
Because they have Cover with size as big as Official Switch games.
Aw yeah, Riding Stable is my JAM!!!!
Please let these be a joke... If not, I at least hope they're either surprisingly good, or don't get past Nintendo quality control, as these haven't been officially announced by them.
@ricklongo It looks fairly decent. If its the version I think it is, its a remake of an old top down RPG. Think PS4 already has it. Could be fun pending the price point of course.
Rest looks pretty mediocre and thats generous. But don't judge a book by its cover they say so who knows.
@Volks PS4 and Steam have already been graced by many of these gems.
Blade of Destiny remake is just awful. I have it on Steam and could not make it past 15 minutes.
Switch, the new dumping ground of shovelware and last gen ports.
@riChchestM Really? Thats a shame. Am a fan of this genre and Nintendo doesn't often get those Diablo-esc games.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Wii U have a lot of shovelware e-shop games.
Make it rain!
@Anti-Matter Ya, but read what I said. Switch is the "new" dumping ground.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Okay, you want AAA 3rd party for Switch but at the same time you said Switch = new dumping ground of shovelware, where is Your Logic ?
Now the shovelware era has begun.... Guess it should be a good sign about the Switch's future.
@Anti-Matter You make no sense. I want proper new 3rd party games but we're getting last gen shovelware instead.
Im just swimming with excitement.
The Switch e-Shop is already full of shovelware since day 1! /shrug
You act like this is the first shovelware to release on the Switch lol. Really?? o.0
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Okay, listen.
On the last post from different threads, you expressed your complaints about lack of 3rd party games (indicated you have some interest to play them on Switch)
But at the same you said Switch is the "New" dumping ground for Shovelware ( indicated you hate Switch existence because the beginning of "shovelware")
You want to play AAA 3rd party games on machine that oftenly you insult about due to shovelware beginning / quite expensive game price / 32 GB Internal storage / etc. What the heck are you thinking about ?!
@Anti-Matter these are real coming soon.
I bet your so excited. Finally the type of games you like are coming to the switch 😉
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
If you really cared about "proper new 3rd party games" you'd buy a machine to play them on. You clearly don't, you just want something to whine about on here for attention.
@MariOnline
Well...
I will take a look first.
Maybe there are some interesting games despite of Cheap cover.
Will Riding Stable receive a day 1 stability patch?
@Jeronan
Examples?
@ricklongo Gameplay looks awful
Shovelware can be entertaining when you're drunk if it's cheap.
http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/realms-of-arkania-blade-of-destiny-revised
18 on Metacritic
Why should we settle for mediocrity on Switch? Is the Switch cheaper than the competition? No! Are Switch games cheaper than the competition? No! For €500 to get set up properly on Switch, I expect better than shovelware and last gen games. But a lot of these add insult to injury by adding the obligatory Switch tax.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
"Switch, the new dumping ground of shovelware..."
Nobody's gonna take the crown from Steam in this regard... Not now, not ever. Long live the old and new King!
Only the first game blade of destiny would seem interested ,but from what I found in the form of review it does not seem worth my time.
@NinjaBadger
That sounds like my type of drunk weekend game tbh.
@electrolite77 You really need examples?
If you actually own a Switch, look in the Switch e-shop. Won't take long to find the first shovelware.
But if you really need an example: Vrroom in the night sky is a notorious one.
With only the box art, it's a bit unfair to judge. With the exception of the first, the rest do have bland covers.
If you want a good horse game, get that 5 in 1 Mario Sports game on the 3DS. It's a much better stable game.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
You can't complain about the Switch getting ports, and then complain about new games coming out. What are you, a massive hypocrite?
@Volks right.. You obviously dont know what your talking about 😂
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
You don't want any ports (From Wii U / PS4 / PC)
You just want Fresh From Oven AAA 3rd party games just for Switch, not being ported to another consoles.
What the heck ??
@electrolite77 I shouldn't have to buy another console. Are PS4/XB1 owners told to buy a Switch if they want quality 3rd party games? The Switch isn't cheap, I'd expect more for my money. It's not right than we've to pay higher prices for years old games or watered-down experiences.
@RadioShadow No, I want quality new games, not shovelware.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/09/feature_what_we_expect_from_the_nintendo_direct_-_13th_september#comment4120547
See the words "quality" and "new"?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
You want cheap ? Buy ps4.
You want Fresh From Oven AAA 3rd party games ? Choose PC / ps4
You want Fresh From Oven AAA 3rd party games + not ports on Nintendo machines ? Dream On !!
Even Switch got some ported 3rd party games from ps4, I was SOOOO HAPPY and Relief when I knew one of my favorite ps4 games Portal Knights make a Physical retail on Switch due to March 2018.
I don't ask so much for Nintendo. At least we got some ports from ps4 / Wii U / Steam / PC / NEOGEO / etc for Switch, and why the heck you hate ports ? Is that because ports are NOT Fresh From Oven games ??
Learn to appreciate little efforts from Nintendo !
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
What do you mean "we"?
You don't even own a Switch, so how are you personally settling for mediocrity?
The last game is called 'Ski Racing' they don't even... oh man...
@GuruOfGreatness
He hates Not Fresh From Oven games.
He just want ALL NEW games.
What do you think ?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE sorry where do you get these 500 euro "to properly setup a switch"?
Damn ! That "airport fire department" thing made me think for a second it was some kind of "Air Traffic Chaos". Idk why but I love these.
Now all we're missing is Super Goat Simulator Switch!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Which 3rd party games are you craving for ?
I'm asking cause there's not many I'd really be looking forward to.
interestingly the realms of arkania one is also coming out on ps4 and the pre-order has it at £35. so that could hardly be seen as a budget game.....would seem odd for the game to be budget on switch and not ps4....has this 3rd party even confirmed they are budget games?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Sonic Mania
Sonic Forces
Mario Odyssey
Mario + Rabbids
ARMS
Splatoon 2
Bomberman R
Zelda: Breath of the Wild
That's what, 8 titles from the top of my that (or hopefully will be) fit under the "new" and "quality" category. Games UIG are making won't prevent good ones from coming out, plus you don't, oh I don't know... HAVE TO BUY THEM! <_<
Plus the PlayStation 2 will always be the shovel-ware king! It has like 800 PAL exclusive games (something to do with Sony Europe allowing cheap fees to manufacture games). I wonder how many of them are decent?
@Bunkerneath oh my god. And the music, too !
The stuff of legend.
EDIT : Also in this thread, lots of people who still don't know how to take ambivalent comments. You can mute people, guys.
@Nico85 €330 for the Switch, €60 for a game, €80 for a Pro Controller, €50 for a half decent sized Micro SD card. There's other things as well, you'd need a screen protector. Then if you're going out and about, you'd need a carry case and maybe a power bank battery.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Every single one of these games is already available or also announced on PC, 360, PS3, XB1, PS4 and Wii U. There's nothing specific to the Switch here, literally every system gets these.
@electrolite77 I couldn't have said it better myself. Anybody who is crying for AAA third-party support shouldn't be playing Nintendo Consoles. Nintendo has not received games like that since the 90s...
To be fair though, junk or not, that skiing game will for the time being be the only skiing game on the platform...
Haha.. I thought you got to be joking about this being Shovelware games. At first. I saw the first game cover, looked like it could be something good. After scrolling down noticing all the trashy games, I was like.. "yeah.. maybe not so good anymore." The first one was the only decent looking one, but it's probably going to end up something like a hidden object game or point and click adventure game. Although it isn't good to ridicule yet, they may end up being quite good.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE - I paid $300 for the Switch, $7 for a screen protector, $60 for a pro controller, and $40 for LoZBotW........and other then the game and system you don't need any of it......nor an SD card which I don't have but you can grab 64gb for $20.
So $427 for a system with a game and the ability to play 3 player games......not sure what other "new" system you can purchase for that price? XB1 was $499? PS4 was $399......even 3DS and Wii started at $250. You don't have to like Switch or ever buy one but your complaints are meaningless and apply to just about every system. If you want 3rd party games buy a Sony......if you want Nintendo games, then buy a Switch. It's pretty simple.
And there it is... the flood is coming. All we also need is TempleRun and a Mobile Casino Game.
Also, nobody was "hoping" for a 6 year old overpriced ports. They were hoping for things like Dragon Quest. 3rd party big NEW release with a Switch version.
@Zeargo Realms of Arkania is a top down rpg that got moderate to good reviews on steam, so good call there. World Racing and Pineview Drive (announced but not listed in the article) also got semi decent reviews, so not everything they put out will be crap. I might even get one or two if they come in at a decent price point. (or once they're on clearance)
@Gerbwmu 64GB's is nothing. A bigger card is needed, I won't be swapping memory cards out like back on the Gamecube. The Switch will likely have 64 GB game cartridges before too long. BOTW is €60 here and that's on a good day. The Pro Controller is €80. You seem to be quoting low prices and anyway, I quoted € 500.
No point mentioning what previous consoles launched at. Nintendo are competing in the here and now. Nobody's going to say when buying a PS4, 'well it actually cost more at launch'. Nobody cares.
Can we get all of these Shovel Squires to work together to make decent games, please? Some of the games have a little chance of selling 5,000 units, but unless the games are under $3.00, I don't see too many sales.
It begins- world racing has me curious though I admit! 😊
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
You have to buy another Console. You've needed to for 20+ years. You've been told many times that what your sense of entitlement thinks "should" be or is "right" is irrelevant. That you don't buy another Console leads to the unavoidable conclusion you don't actually care about those games and are just whining for attention.
You've also been told many times that you don't need all the things you list to enjoy the Switch. Again, it must just be for attention.
@Jeronan
You said "The Switch e-Shop is already full of shovelware since day 1". One example goes nowhere. In reality the ratio of good game to shovelware on Switch is very good.
@thesilverbrick
"Nintendo has not received games like that since the 90s..."
Exactly. You'd think those complaining about lack of Western AAA's are new to video games or something. They must have a terrible grasp of history anyway.
Realms of Arkania has mixed reviews, but it's an existing thing on Steam and elsewhere and it looks like some Diablo/DnD isometric type game which could be an alright title.
The horse one is perfect for anyone with an interest if it's not just slapped together garbage. My wife probably would dig it if not my little girl if I let them use the Switch.
Sligeach Eire is getting really tiresome, annoying, perhaps even infuriating with his demented hell bent quest to crap all over anything and nearly everything Switch based.
Fine you hate it, we get it, shut up already and find somewhere else to go you'll be happy.
Just a tip to the rest...if you can't stand his crap ramblings you can block seeing he ever made a post using your account control panel. Just go to blocked users and add his account game and you can enjoy the site whiner free (unless someone quotes him.)
Another option every post this gets done on, bombard the admins with the report button complaining repeatedly about the endless harassment in the message area here on most threads. They'll get tired of the complaining if enough people do it. Censorship sucks but this really has to stop.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Is switch the only console that can play these games on TV and on the go? YES
case closed.
@Ensemen You mean I can play "Riding Stable: My Life" anywhere!!!!
Just throwing it out there I looked up that horse game, steam has a 9/10 rating on it. It may look like shovelware but the game play on it is solid as is the all around game if you're into that kind of stuff. Just because people here would rather shoot, race, or platform something doesn't make it garbage.
@Shellcore
Yeah.
Anywhere, even inside Toilet.
@tanookisuit
So, those games above from Steam ports ?
Hm... I will take a look first.
@tanookisuit That horse game on Steam has a different title. How do you know if it's the same one?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE - I bought all of my items off of Amazon.......coupons and specials help......I seldom pay full price when a quick Internet search usually saves you a few dollars.
But since we are in the here and now and not worrying about anything but cost now.....
A PS4 Pro is $399
XBox One X is $499
Add in the extras you need.....you know ether net cables, a game, XBox Live
I'm not entirely certain it is, but what little I can mine so far it looks like it has a possibility. The other though that DnD style one is definitely a Steam title.
I didn't look the others up yet, not really all that curious about them. From the looks I think we're getting a mix of PC(Steam) and Android ports here.
Take for instance that Farmer one, like the horse game seems 'NTower' is the developer. A quick google hunt shows a German developer and that the farm game has a slightly differing name (dated 2017) and offered up on the PS4 too and with the same Switch name as a PC release. They're ports of generic PC games basically to console/handheld.
As someone who has played and actually enjoyed titles like Titanic Mystery, I'd be a hypocrite to complain about what some call "shovelware". The lineup here presents a good diversity of genres, that much is certain. Only Realms and Arkania and World Racing have caught my attention so far, but in the end, I'll be making decisions on a game-by-game basis, using gameplay videos and other info and... my own wallet state and wishlist priorities at any given time, naturally. That's about it. Although many of these games do look like they'll have to compete with bigger titles in their respective niches on Switch.
That Professional Farmer game (and Firefighters game for that matter) shamelessly uses the same font for its logo as Farming Simulator. Haha!
@Ensemen You mean bin closed.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I've got to know. All this butthurt trolling of yours, looking at that avatar of yours. Are you just a bitter WiiU owner that can't get over it?
I got rid of mine years ago when the ship started to sink. Switch has proven it's no WiiU so I jumped in on one and I have no regrets. Perhaps if you put the amount of time you put into whining about it instead of trying to own and use one having fun with it you'd find a far better response here.
If you think the Switch is flooded with shovelware, then you haven't been on Steam before...
I really don't understand why people still reply to @SLIGEACH_EIRE. He's not even a real troll. He's a Nintendo Fanboy who like to annoy people. No one who spends that much time on Nintendo Life and Submits that many leads for publication doesn't own and love a Nintendo Switch.
As for the Shovelware, Realms of Arkania probably should have been a good game. Tactical RPG with First Person Exploration should have been a home run on the tactical scene, they failed. World Racing could be fine. The rest of them are well outside of my wheel house. I hate Pure Simulation games.
@KcebEnyaw
Um...
Because most of Sligeach eire comments were just ridiculous.
That made some of us wonder.
WELL....
I have absolutely nothing to say.
@Bunkerneath Welp, there goes that.
I choked on my drink once I saw the airport cover art
Some of these are good! professional farmer for example.
What does UIG stand for? Ugly Irrelevant Garbage?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Unrepentant Irish Grouse >:]
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
How dare you called UIG such a garbage company !!
Lool, more Retail titles (trolololol)!
@thesilverbrick - Early to mid 90's at that. I think the most insane bit of bait someone can throw out around here is, "B-b-but, where are all the major AAA games?" I don't eat fast food, but if I did; I wouldn't go to Burger King to get a Big Mac. Mind boggling.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE @Anti-Matter You guys entertain me to no end, I needed a good laugh today lol
As far as shovelware, it's purpose is it is cheap to produce and stands a dart throw of a chance of making a "little" bit of money due to sizable install-bases, to which, Switch's growing day by day. The unfortunate reality is, like trash in the street, is that it is simply going to be somewhere and anywhere in the videogame community, not just Nintendo. System publishers these days are not going to spend resources to critique every game that lands on a system, just more or less a "best effort quality check", but nothing much more than that. While shovelware cannot be stopped (and btw, SOMEONE will buy it), the only other response a gamer can simply give is to not buy shovelware. Simple as that.
Fun. Probably not the games, but the chatter on here.
@Anti-Matter
I don't really know because I don't understand what you mean 🙁
Lol
@Malcrash
Yeah... I think the fire fighters are in a bit of trouble there!!!
I am flying long haul in a few days and that firefighter game has just made me abit edgy.
Not because of the potential for crashing, but because i cant fill the time with these amazing looking titles.
Hopefully they get some gameplay during tonights direct. /s
There are already ShovelWare titles in the Eshop so why not join in. World racing would have been interesting to me since we can't seem to get a proper racer on any Nintendo Platform. The last racer we got was F1 2009. Of course MarioKart is a proper racer but I'm talking F1 or Rally. Heck even the old Naamco racers would be welcome. But I've sold my Switch because of what I see over the next year just not being for me. So I'm back to 3DS as my main system and that is definitely not bad cause there is always something good to play
@Ooyah It is clear everyone is alright in that airplane. Surely
Meh, just leave them be, don't buy them, and people will stop porting them.
Guess the Switch must be doing well if its getting this load of trash.
I may try the firefighter game.
@Malcrash
They will be okay... and don't call me Shirley.
high five
