10 years after its initial release on PS2, THQ Nordic revived and rezzed up martial arts platformer Legend Of Kay Anniversary for Wii U. Now, a good three years later, the publisher is bringing the game back yet again with a Nintendo Switch slated for sometime in 2018.
If you've never played or heard about it before, you play as Kay, a hot-headed young cat who must master the power of the sword, the hammer and the claws across 25 Eastern-styled levels. It's very PS2 in terms of gameplay, but THQ Nordic did a decent enough job of porting it before so we're looking forward to seeing how well it performs on Switch. There's even a new trailer. Huzzah!
Be sure to let us know what you think about Legend Of Kay Anniversary heading to Switch this year. Did you play it on Wii U? Will you try it for the first time on Switch? Discuss...

Given this is coming to Switch, I hope Darksiders 1 and 2 also comes to Switch. The more Wii U ports, the better!
@Grumblevolcano
There's zero relation between this janky, low budget looking game, and Darksiders.
I loved the original and the Wii u port was fun. If it's the right price I'll be glad to triple dip.
@Alcovitch THQ Nordic published both.
@Alcovitch THQ Nordic dude, the same people who own the rights to Darksiders now. It isn't like a clear indication or anything, but if they publish their not so hot games, maybe they will publish their hot games!
This is the longest anniversary I have seen a game have...
i've own this on PC already. i'll double dip some point.
i do hope they consider doing a sequel.
@Grumblevolcano I'd be down for them both. Shame we won't see the third, unless THQ change their tune about the Switch's capabilities.
Will there be literally nothing left in the Wii U library that isn't available on the Switch? Aye, let it die with some dignity.
@bluedogrulez We, you don't exist to developers.
I got this on deep discount on Wii U and never even booted it up. I should try it out there first, and if I like it I might get the Switch version...
@thesilverbrick Ya, it was €6 I think during the sales. It was a cheap budget title on Wii U(€30) so it shouldn't be expensive on Switch. I never bothered with it as the reviews were brilliant.
I was interested in getting it for Wii U but never got round to it. I'll wait to see how the port handles, and for the right price I'll dip.
@Grumblevolcano That's an interesting point. Could Darksiders 3 come to the Switch? Considering how much effort they put into porting Darksiders 1 for Wii U (despite the fish already being beaten dead and buried), that makes Darksiders 3 plausible.
@thesilverbrick I found it to be on the high end of mediocre.
Eh. These companies need to stop throwing all of their mediocre crap at Switch. THQ Nordic has better games than this strictly average game that nobody asked for, and nobody really wanted (or at least I couldn't imagine anybody wanting it).
"It's very PS2 in terms of gameplay [...]" Can someone translate that for me?
The game looks... very dated. And a bit cheap - but hey, that by itself doesn't mean much.
@faint That seems to be the general consensus. I only bought it because it was on sale for dirt cheap and I’m a sucker for any 3D platformer, regardless of quality, haha.
Who the hell keeps asking for this? I hope they took a look at past reviews and fixed some minor annoyances.....they probably didn't and won't, though.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Unfortunately I foresee them releasing some sort of $40 physical version on Switch and also charging a premium for the download, too. I can just play it on Wii U (I’m starting to sound like you, haha).
Never even heard about this game before... Now, where are Darksiders 1 and 2. The Warmasteted Edition should come to Switch. It just doesn’t make sense not to do it.
Oh I'm getting this. And I'd put in my vote for the Darksiders series to come to Switch as well. THQ should get a...qlue.
Ewww... this game is bad... I played it on PS4 and it was a horrible experience. Do not recommend it.
Started this on Wii U, but didn't get too far into it before moving on to other games. I'll probably pick it up on Switch when it's cheap enough, since my goal is to transfer all my Wii U games over to Switch as they become available.
I was never interested. The reviews weren't great and between Rayman, NSMBU, Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong I had enough to he getting on with in terms of platformers.
It's a pretty decent game, but the environments look very sparse by today's standards. I think more could have been done with this.
@thesilverbrick I bet it'll be a long time before it's at €6 again on Wii U. I've noticed games that used to be heavily discounted on Wii U during sales now don't be because of their ports onto Switch.
The original creator of this game must still be championing its course.
So many other 3D action adventures from the PS2 era have been lost to the tides of time and the shifting tastes of the players.
Looks janky as hell. Love how the boat produces zero waves or ripples on the water.
Bring Darksiders 1 & 2 please THQ Nordic!
Also why do they keep peddling this game lol... Can it really be that good?
It's not a bad game, but it's not a great game. It wasn't that amazing on PS2 either. I'm kind of surprised they still keep porting it forward. Kind of nice, but surprising.
I hope they fixed the Crocodile temple glitch. It forced me to delete the save and start the game over in the Wii U version.
Enjoy this so much on PS2 and Wii U so hopefully it runs well on Switch too.
You'd think this game was brilliant or something, finding it's way as it has to numerous platforms. Very ordinary.
Depends on price. Was ok on the Wii U but I wouldn’t double dip unless it was $19.99 or less
I was considering this at one point for the Wii U, but my interest was subverted by other games. I'll keep half an eye on this port and see how it fares.
I was also considering the Wii U port of this game, having played the PS2 original at a friend's house way back in the day. But other games took priority. If it's not too expensive, I might consider getting it for Switch!
Great news! As many have said hopefully this leads to the Darksiders franchise coming over. Bought the 1st 2 on PS3 then PS4 wouldn't mind both and 3 also coming to the switch. Love that franchise!
As far as this game goes I remember playing it when back on the ps2 and wasn't a fan. Great for those who like it though!
I played it on WiiU but didn't complete it. It was okay but I lost interest pretty quickly.
Forgot to buy it on wiiu so I might give it a try. I miss the old animal heroes and martial arts games.
Meh. It was alright but nothing I wanna buy again.
What's legendary is how many times this game gets rereleased.
Also bought on wii u in sale. It's actually not bad. I know that sounds like a backhanded compliment but it does everything right it's just not spectacular. Kay, indeed all the cast are cool and fun. And while it is sparse it looks kinda gorgeous. It also kinda sedate and that,s the killer. It's serene take your time vibe is gonna make it ideal in handheld mode. Just so long as they don't charge more than 20 quid. Be awesome if, and I don't even know if this is possible, charge a fiver for those who already own it on wii u.
Er....woo?
Just bought it on the Wii U eshop for $5. Wonder how much the Switch copy will be. All these ports are way way cheaper on the Wii U and have dual screen capability there. With backwards compatibility and the dropping price for the counsel itself, the Wii U seems like a better bargain than the Switch right now.
Hmm
Meh, bought on PC for €5 because it looked fun, but it just felt too dated for me, so I lost interest pretty quick.
Played this through on Wii U, good game but nothing special. Definitely not a game I'd play through again!
@bluedogrulez hope everything from the Wii U makes the Switch. The good games anyway.
As is said over and over, these are junior devs doing the ports. These aren’t devs working on the big games. This is like making money training before they move to new games.
The more ports, the more experienced devs they have, and the more games (both old and new) you get.
If you don’t like ports filling out the library nicely like this, shun it. Don’t spend your money. Let those who do want them spend their money. It is quite simple, actually.
I have the wii u version already and I’m not sure if I will double dip. If it was the darksiders games I would.
@Dysnomia : thats fine, but I just think it is a shame that my beloved wii U library will be diminished to being a collection of games that are not the definitive editions.
So THQ Nordic will port this over, but not the De Blob duology from the Wii?
It was okay on WiiU. A very dated experience, however.
I got it for $5 on one of those Wii U eShop discounts. Haven't really messed with it.
eh...
Why do they keep re-releasing this turd over and over again like it's some kind of classic? This game wasn't even good on the PS2
I had this on Wii U and stopped playing not long into the game.
