As you may recall, back in July, Australian-based developer Team Cherry announced the final, and entirely free, Hollow Knight expansion - Gods & Glory - would be released on 23rd August.
Today, the developer has revealed the game will receive an "11th hour change" due to a name clash with a certain mobile game. As a result of this, the snazzy new title is now Hollow Knight: Godmaster.
Here's the full explanation:
So why the 11th hour change? Well not only is the new name 100 times cooler, more distinct, more ‘Hollow Knight’, it also doesn’t conflict with the title of a certain mobile game, made by a very large, very powerful video game company! It’s a win win all-round! Now, let’s all take a moment to enjoy this stylish upgrade.
Nothing about the upcoming fourth and final content pack has changed other than the title. This new DLC will apparently be the largest yet, with a whole bunch of new bosses, music, NPCs, and quests.
What do you think about the new name? Will you be playing Hollow Knight's final content pack when it arrives on the Switch later this month? Tell us below.

I have never even heard of that mobile game until just now. I still prefer the old title, but what can ya do?
Eh, doesn't bother me. But Godmaster sounds a bit snappier than Gods & Glory. Just a tad though, it's no biggie.
Can't say I've heard of it but who cares about a mobile game anyway? Ubisoft don't seem too concerned about naming Assassin's Creed after Mario games
Did someone say GODMASTERS?!

(I've been waiting years to make a Transformers joke on this website. That's another one off the bucket list.)
@carlos82 odyssey is a very common reference for Greek/roman culture's because of certain stories and makes since.
on a side not come on physical so I can play all this together in one no download package.
@carlos82 Homer beat Nintendo to the name by a few thousand years.
@Branovices The same old story that Butters faced in South Park: “Simpsons did it first”
Stop! Hollow Knight already has enough content! You're killing all the other indie developers! Show some mercy, Team Cherry!
Unfortunately I have moved on to what is IMO the far superior Dead Cells. Loving every minute of it, whereas Hollow Knight was a slog. Disappointing considering how long I waited for release. Anywho, most others seemed to love it.
@RailX Hollow Knight is hands down a better game than Dead Cells lmao
It is cooler!
@RailX I haven’t played dead cells but can agree about hollow Knight. I found it awesome at the start but then slowly got bored of it I’ve put in over 20 hours and can’t bring myself to finish it 😴
I love Haolow Knight! And I can't wait to play more of it! I haven't even beat the regular things, the world is just fun to explore and find hidden treasures!
@Switch_will_fail
From the perspective of someone who loves both of them, they're honestly too different for one to be 'better' than the other. They scratch different itches.
I'm about 3 hours into Hollow Knight and I'm frustrated by the lack of fast travel and a general feeling that my character is super weak. Collecting Geo seems to take forever. I'm guessing this will get better but as of now, I'm a little disappointed.
As this was a free expansion how was there a copyright issue?
The new name is awful.
@sandman89 got bad ending of Hollow Knight at 27hrs, have since deleted it from SD card with no intention of playing again.
My 6hrs or so in Dead Cells have been thrillingly addictive so far.
They missed a perfect opportunity to call it 'Lylat Wars'
@carlos82 clutches A Level Classics qualification and twitches incessantly
@RailX Looking forward to Trying Dead Cells, but I'm of the same opinion on Hollow Knight. I was so excited for it, loved it for hours, but soon just found it a boring slog, despite the obvious effort that has gone into it.
I kind of wish there was a version I could get through in 5 hrs.
@FarkyValentine bear with it my friend, I've 90+ hours put in to it but I felt exactly how you feel at one point. Amazing game I love it.
I've beat the game at 100% complete but boy, I cannot beat The Radiance or the Nightmare King Grimm... any help, tips or advice would be much appreciated? I have all the charms.
It's nice of them to be open about it, but in my opinion, in the end of the day, what's in a name?
@DrLockdown I was about to bring up transformers too, you beat me to it lol.
@big_bad_bob Ba Wip Grana Weep Ninny Bon
@Fake-E-Lee Completely agree. Nothing has gripped me like Dead Cells in years.
@RailX @Fake-E-Lee Let me just clarify, I LOVE Metroidvanias, but Hollow Knight just frustrates the hell out of me. Dying in the game feels awful, because if the last bench you sat down at was far away, you have to go ALLLLLL the way back to pick up your Geos. I played the game for around 10-15 hours or so and had people give me advice in chat (I was streaming it)
Even though I had all that though, it still frustrated me beyond everything. I think the game is fantastic, music is beautiful and the art style is great, but I just can’t bring myself to play it.
Dead Cells, on the other hand. I’ve gotten to the boss after the clock tower and I’ve died quite a few times already, but do I care? No. I really can’t explain how roguelites are so much fun, but Dead Cells is an AMAZING game. Not to say Hollow Knight isn’t. It just feels like Dead Cells resonates with me more.
Also, on the talks of Metroidvanias, I think Axiom Verge was absolutely incredible.
@C3Mush Axiom was brilliant, but it stumped me in a couple of spots but saw it to the end. I redownloaded it for another playthrough the day before Dead Cells came out...needless to say I haven't touched it yet.
@RailX Axiom is great, as is Xeodrifter. I think the main issues for me with Hollow Knight is that the map’s too big, most of the areas look the same so it’s easy to get lost and it’s just a slog to actually traverse the overworld.
Dead Cells is just incredible, honestly. I can’t say I’ve had any performance issues either. Nothing major at least. But yeah, I’ve been loving that so far, even if I’ve only got to the boss after the Clocktower. It’s just addictive.
@C3Mush at some point you can get your soul back without having to travel, keep those rancid eggs...
@carlos82 Are you kidding me here? AC Odyssey is set in Classical Greece. You know, the people who wrote The Iliad and Odyssey?
You have to be a troll
what phone game has that name?
@Mando44646 I'd imagine they're just kidding
just wait for the water-area expansion "CLASH OF CLAMS"
I’m itching to try this game but I’m holding my breath for a physical edition. The developer hinted at one but nothing has been said since. I’m going to wait patiently.
I just beat the main game, so I’m totally ready for more! I’ve played for nearly 30 hours and I’m only at 68%, so I guess I still have plenty to do anyways.
This game is something special. I have a feeling I’m gonna be comparing every game to Hollow Knight for a very very long time.
@thesilverbrick Same here. A game this well received surely has one on the way?
Finally beat the final boss last night with 87% completion with the worse ending. I'll probably jump back in after a bit since I dropped 45 hours into Hollow Knight. I really enjoyed the game and for all of those that couldn't get into it, I understand. I would recommend using a guide a bit which is what I did to keep from getting off the rails. I only used it to point me in the right direction which kept me from going made after wandering around for a couple of hours. Also some of the charm load outs make the bosses a lot easier. I failed at the final boss several times until I got Quick Slash and learned about the Tank Load out. Pretty much walked right through him without a problem.
I'm going through Bomb Chicken right now which is a nice palette cleanser.
@thesilverbrick @MeloMan I believe there will be one in the not too distant future. They obviously had to release all DLC before they could package up the complete edition.
56 hrs in, 102%. Hollow Knight for the win! I can understand that some people got discouraged, but personally, I can't wait for the expansion. This game is so rewarding. I started Dead Cells, seems like an awesome game, but I feel like I need to complete HK before I can really jump in DC. I don't want to mess up my muscle memory in HK!
I'm 90% in & at the end now. However I've put so many hours into it that I got tired & haven't picked it up in days to finish it. I want to get Dead Cells but I feel like another style of game beforehand. I don't want to dive into another Metroidvania game yet. I'm thinking of picking up maybe Doom or fire up Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze (picked it up recently but haven't played it yet). Then, I can see myself going through another Metroidvania style game - thinking either Dead Cells, Madeleine or maybe Owl Boy. I'm liking what I'm seeing on those 3 games.
Not sure if I'll be playing Hollow Knight once the new DLC comes out.
@FarkyValentine I felt the same as you did for the first few hours of hollow knight. I persisted and ended up enjoying it for the most part, but yeah, the game can feel like a tough slog at times. I think the game world is maybe a little too big. If you miss something or forget something you can end up wandering around aimlessly for hours.
107% it! Waiting patientally for the new expansion . Playing dead cells til’ then.
@MartyFlanMJFan I found all the gimmicky charms to be not useful at all in the really tough boss fights and the trial of the fool. For nightmare Grimm I loaded up on as much health as I could just so I could last longer than 10 seconds
Then I just memorized his moves, figured out how to counter them and then practiced, a lot . He is so fast that there is no margin for error. You can't go into it thinking you'll beat him on the 10th try or the 20th try or even the 100th try. If you're patient you should eventually get into a certain rhythm and you will be able to dodge all of his attacks and get in a few hits with the nail.
It took me several hours, not in one siting, but eventually I got into the zone and I knew I would beat him.
As for charms, all you need are sprintmaster, longnail and unbreakable strength, and as much health as possible.
Radiance is not nearly as hard as nightmare Grimm. My only suggestion is, once you get to the second phase, with the small platforms, don't chase him. Just stay on one platform. His attacks aren't very hard to dodge if you do that, and whenever he comes close to you get in as many hits as you can.
After beating nightmare Grimm, I went back and replayed Radiance and it felt very easy by comparison!
@MartyFlanMJFan I guess my entire comment could have been summed up with "git gud" If you need specific advice on countering specific moves, let me know, or just watch someone on YouTube beat them.
@Shufty @Branovices @edgedino @Mando44646 calm down guys I'm well aware of why Assassin's Creed is actually called Odyssey, just making the point that if Ubisoft and Nintendo are unconcerned over 2 very high profile games sharing a name then I don't see why there should have been an issue here
@chiptoon A 5 hour metroidvania? Lol I think you're playing the wrong genre m8
@tedko thanks very much for your reply!
Personally I loved Hollow Knight like crazy. The art, atmosphere, and gameplay kept me hooked the whole way through.
finding new areas always gave me a rush and i never felt like it was toooo difficult. I went into hollow knight having 100 percented metroid fusion and beating all the c-sides in Celeste so the exploration, trekking and difficulty never really bothered me. Honestly the Soul Sanctum was one of my favourite parts of the game since I loved how foreboding it felt and the difficulty took me back to being younger and worse at games in general. Getting through it was so gratifying and probably one of my favorite moments in a game in a long time.
If i ever got stuck (which happened a few times) i would just comb over the map and look for areas I hadnt been to yet that seemed to lead somewhere. I can see how that could be aggravating for some people though (especially when you travel all the way somewhere and find a roadblock you cant get past yet). But I loved the world so much I still had fun with those parts.
I definitely recommend Hollow Knight and can’t wait for more dlc (i havent even beaten the current dlc stuff yet haha)
I'm actually surprised, given the similar mechanics, Team Cherry didn't get any crap from From.
@FarkyValentine There is fast travel in the form of Stag Stations
In other news Hollow Knight's next content update titled "JesusLord" slated for fall 2019.
@Voldemort807 yeah just coming accross those now. Still, can't tell you how many times I've had a lot of geo and lost everything... An item to return you to the town would be nice. At this point, I can recognize the quality, but not sure it's for me. I felt like Salt and Sanctuary was difficult but not frustratingly so, as progress was rarely erased from dying. This game has already frustrated me and I'm only 4 hours in.
@FarkyValentine That does happen every so often in this game. But it does get less frustrating later on with more of the map unlocked. One strategy I’ve come up with is to try not to accumulate too much while exploring new areas. Backtrack and spend before you go. Then once you already know the area and have found a bench, or stag station, you could always go back again to get more geo before exploring too far ahead. Eventually, though, geo gets easier to obtain, and revealing new areas gets to be more interesting than worrying about lost geo. The more benches and stag stations you find, it gets easier to strategize how and when to approach new areas.
@FarkyValentine Fast travel? Where do you have to get to after 3 hours!?
There is fast travel available when you need it. Right now it seems your missing the point. Explore.
looks like another game on my backlog of purchased games is going to be updated before I even know whats there to begin with! new world problems
