Re: Nintendo's Patent On 'Sub Characters' Could Have Some Dire Ramifications

gabrigoes

@Jujuman no it doesn't, that's 100% bs. It hinders people from being able to use previous ideas to iterate upon them, it's technically and by all means stopping people from being creative. It's, moreover, barring people from using an IDEA, which should never be protected by law as it's inexhaustible and non-scarce by definition. Yeah yeah small creators should be protected by IP protection laws or whatever but that's absolutely not the way the system works and there's no sign it will. It's flawed in its theory and even more so in its practical application, as it just serves as a means for huge corporations to smother creativity and the mere possibility of creation by whoever wants to do it. Defending it and Nintendo is outright evil behavior.

@Vyacheslav333 interestingly, there are roguelikes of at least a few of those genres, when you think about roguelike more of a structure than an actual genre. But yeah, in general it's cheaper and easier to make that kind of game, so many smaller publishers and developers kinda default to it, even more so after Hades and, in the case of metroidvanias, Hollow Knight

Re: Nintendo Direct: Mario Kart World: Every Announcement - How Would You Rate It?

What the hell was this Direct, man. Everything about this console is really making me feeling meh. It will probably the first time since the Game Cube that I don't buy a Nintendo console at launch (yes, I bought the Wii U at launch).

Specifically about MK, I don't like that the costumes are just, well, cosmetic, and also seem to make a mess of the character selection screen. I also don't feel good about them not disclosing if you can just play a normal GP without having to traverse the world from track to track.
And of course I haven't played it and Bandy has said it looks great, but from the videos it just looks like MK8 to me.

ALL OF THAT SAID, the penguin is playable so I've already pre-ordered the console with the game

@-wc- I couldn't express myself properly (apparently still can't lol), but I meant that it seemed to me that, on that hardware overview section of the Direct, they were talking about the main problems with the OG Switch (the stand, small joycons, small shoulder buttons on the joycons etc) without actually acknowledging or directly mentioning them

They probably fixed it, it would be incredibly dumb to not do it, but I find it very strange how they're approaching the subject. Nobody has said "it's driftless" or "drift-proof" so far and yes, that's worrisome. Imagine if they didn't address this problem at all, it would probably the worst thing Nintendo has ever done hardware wise.
