Re: New Study Says External Issues Are More Likely To Blame For Gaming Addiction, Not Gaming Itself

Daaaamn that was a long read. But here's the kicker:

Quote:
In other words, daily psychological-need experiences robustly predicted psychosocial functioning, holding variability relating to gaming and control variables constant, though the opposite was not supported.

And if you look at the actual results, 0.3 percent over 6 percent, you're looking at pretty impressive and solid observations.

If I mirror my take on it, which is mostly on the cognitive psychology side (by virtue of profession) I'd say the blame game towards games is driven by the social structures that surround it, causing gaming to be perceived as an outlier activity. It's tangible enough to picture, so it sticks in the mind too.

Anyone else find some nuggets in this study they like? I'm quite impressed with how succinct these hypotheses were laid bare to be honest.

Re: Miyamoto Wanted Mario Maker Gameplay In Zelda, So Aonuma Created The Chamber Dungeon

He's right though.

People struggle to understand how revolutionary Mario maker really is. Infinite mario, just by the power of players. It needs better filtering, better facilitating - but that concept? Dang, that's how gaming scales up beyond the stars.

Zelda is the game that requires the finesse in that concept though. It needs guided play, stacks of levels, filtering through the quirky and bold and insane, to provide you with a great Zelda experience.

Conceptually, though, it's there.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch Lite - Half A Switch, But That's More Than Enough For Some

Great article.

I fault nintendo with not having proper family sharing. On my apple stuff I have a parent account, and family accounts with it. They are limited in number. I can now share purchases with them.

Basically, nintendo needs to facilitate the digital version of "handing my kid my cartridge". They are a great gaming company, but are idiots when it comes to making user friendly services.

Re: There Are Now More Than 5 Million Courses In Super Mario Maker 2

The first one? I made a lot of levels in it. Some were very popular, I even got my own cult following so to speak.

Right now, though, I fire up the game to play some levels. I might start building, yet daily life is just a bit different these months.

It's great to see there is enough to enjoy. I'll create when I get to, inevitably, spend some more time in longer hauls behind my switch.
