Re: Miyamoto Explains Why Illumination Was Chosen For The Upcoming Mario Movie

dumedum

@dkxcalibur exactly. As long as Disney thinks it will make the movies better, I'm sure nothing prevents it. Everything is possible with money and incentives. For example, right now because of the old contracts you have Incredible Hulk and Spiderman rides in Universal Studios. Which is pretty insane considering they are so good too. Their whole island of adventures is dedicated to Marvel characters.. also going back, you had BUGS BUNNY appear in Roger Rabbit Disney movie (Touchstone) together with Mickey Mouse.

Re: Soapbox: The Super Mario Movie Might Not Be All That Great

dumedum

That's ridiculous. Mario is too one dimensional? Are you kidding me? Compares to the stuff DreamWorks put out there?

What is this, Shakespeare in Love? Seriously you must be joking. This could be a fantastic film with a fun adventure that kids everywhere would love. No you don't want Mario to go through some emotional gut wrecking arc. You want to have a crazy fun adventure with Luigi, Yoshi...seas, deserts, jungles. This movie is long overdue and can be brilliant.

Re: Review: Celeste (Switch eShop)

"brutally challenging" is a huge of YMMV. For example, I thought Mutant Mudds is basically unplayable because it is so hard, but Shovel Knight wasn't that challenging at all. And I hear different reactions to this game too.

Re: Video: We Made Our Own Nintendo Labo Toy-Con

dumedum

@Yorumi The Switch will be a sunk cost. Nintendo's idea is that Switch will obviously be extremely prevalent, universal. So it is irrelevant. it's already going to be there like your old Wii, DS or iPhone (in Nintendo's utopia).
People buy things that cost more than 5X the times of this cardboard stuff and never open it, or use it once, or never get it to work. RC cars or planes or robots often cost much more, and rarely do they keep working for a long time. All it takes is for them to crush onto a car, fall from a table etc, not to mention the batterly leaks, water and a million of other issues. People buy expensive crap all the time if they think the crap is fun even if short lived.

Re: Video: We Made Our Own Nintendo Labo Toy-Con

dumedum

@Yorumi if it flops, it flops because it will be stupid. That's the tes t-
whether it's any fun. Cardboard has nothing to do with it. They sell toys from anything, including crappy strings and cheap goo passed as playdough. It's completely irrelevant to the success of the product.

Re: Feature: The Most Exciting Indie Games Coming to Nintendo Switch In 2018

dumedum

@SLIGEACH_EIRE if King of Cards is anything like Specter of Torment, then it's basically a whole new game. The mechanics completely different, even the tower is different, the magic/curios, the characters, the challenges, even the story.

As for "third party", it doesn't look that amazing and will never look amazing, but at least we know the problem is probably just the power of the machine, not the sales. For someone who likes Wii U, I'd keep my mouth shut on 3rd parties for now. Wii U had its share of third parties then died horribly, and Switch right now has a great time too, a better run, which will probably last longer. Playing LA Noire and loving it. Doom, Skyrim,, Wolfenstein, Dark Souls, PayDay2, the situation is really pretty good, considering.

P.S: Third party are always "ports." That's why they're third parties. Unless they're exclusive like Bayonetta 3.

Re: Sorry Netflix Fans, You Won't Be Watching Stranger Things On Your Switch Anytime Soon

dumedum

@electrolite77 just the way things work. They have to reprogram the OS to support it, things like that. You know they do stuff to make sure things work smoothly and are compatible, right? Sometimes they call it making things stable 😁

The one thing I like about this demand for Netflix etc is that at least people shut up about the "need" for a CD or DVD or Blu-ray. At least now it's just apps. Spotify could be useful btw only if you can play music while playing games , that could be fun and at least game related, otherwise it's again a useless app.

Re: Sorry Netflix Fans, You Won't Be Watching Stranger Things On Your Switch Anytime Soon

dumedum

@Folkloner wrong. You keep hearing this stupid retort. It's not about us not WANTING it, it's about potentially slowing the system down (even if optional, some adjustments would be made), wasting Nintendo's time to develop it or at least review it and approve it, make it compatible, marketing etc and even wasting Netflix time. We're just prioritizing what's important for us. Everything has a price.

Re: Nintendo Reiterates That It's Not Interested In Virtual Reality Or 4K Support

dumedum

@quinnbad Market Cap is just a market cap - exactly that. It goes up and down. It's true that Nintendo has a larger market cap than Sony. That means that if you buy all the outstanding shares of Nintendo on the market you'd get more money because the stock is more valuable - it's a better investment. But it's not the only factor to determine what is larger and what is smaller.

Nintendo is much smaller than Sony in other senses - less assets, less divisions, less employees, less revenues, less actual business. The problem of Sony is that it was mismanaged, right? Compared to Nintendo at least. It got too big so the risks outweigh the assets, the public stock is not increasing like Nintendo, and its total market capitalization is therefore smaller, but Nintendo is 100% right that Sony is in fact larger.

You are right about Microsoft - both its market cap and in other areas it's bigger. Bigger ,slower to adapt, dumber but bigger.

Re: Nintendo Reiterates That It's Not Interested In Virtual Reality Or 4K Support

dumedum

They're right on both .
VR is too awkward at the moment . Frankly works pretty well on smartphones (not well enough) but the whole setup for games is obviously ridiculous at this point .
4Ks is also ridiculous. Yeah people might be buying those now but when you can't watch TV channels in that resolution it means it is way behind. And is it even worth it. Internationally, some TV channels are actually still in SD. Millions of current TVs at houses everywhere are only 720p. Bull at the moment.

Re: Feature: Killer Apps We Really Want To See On Nintendo Switch

dumedum

No. Switch is selling really well and Nintendo knows what it is doing. If it feels that meaningless apps are a waste of time / resources / space on the Switch / will slow it down / will cause loading waiting times / introduce all sorts of bugs or security problems / a million other reasons , then they shouldn't. It's a game machine. That's why people like it.

Re: Video: The 21 Best GameCube Games Money Can Buy

dumedum

My time with the GameCube is through the Wii (at least 50% of the time I spent on Wii) love the games and the controller. Some games that I guess are not on the list that are really great
https://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/2010/02/incredible_hulk_ultimate_destruction_retro love the review too. The Buffy game 😁👍 , Prince of Persia the SoS ,Star Fox Adventures.

From the List (did not watch the video) I think I'd definitely leave out games that were done or ported better (Metroid Prime - see Wii), RE 4 (see amazing Wii version), Zelda : WW (Wii U I realize this may be debateable but it's a waste of space), Pikmin 2 (Wii.. if at all), . Now I realize that at the time if you're listing the best games they should be included but....it's just not helpful going forward. There are so many gems to track down it's just stupid to play RE4 on GC. When you got the Wii version. Beyond Good & Evil I'd keep because the GC controller is awesome, only a Wii Remote done right can take it (or possibly a good Wii U Control done right 😁 )

Re: Random: This Woman Loves Tetris So Much She's Going To Marry Her Copy

dumedum

What she describes sounds like real love or at least attraction. Is she mentally ill? Of course she is. But that's how you define the field. Someone with suicide tendencies is also mentally ill and someone who thinks the world is going to end with a robot nuclear attack ala Sarah in Terminator is also mentally ill....

The thing is and I don't share this view of course is that it's hard to explain to people why you have to marry only humans. And then why is it wrong under age? Why is it wrong with multiple partners? Animals ? and then you got objects. These are the arguments made against legalizing gay marriage.... and again it's not my belief. But the idea that there is a slippery slope can be a strong argument - is it because it has to be ONE human and human only? Why? Is it sentience? Is it real informed consent (probably a good argument but won't solve everything). It's like where you get insane about genderless bathrooms, then you could say these crazy liberals... The place you draw the line will seem arbitrary to the real crazy ones.

Re: Review: Guns, Gore & Cannoli (Switch eShop)

dumedum

Bad review. This is really a great side scroller shooter.

Very fun, and also challenging. One thing in particular stands out and that's the Boss fights - the bosses are very good but very fair, so you really improve each time after every attempt, and you become more skilled and learn how to brilliantly beat the bosses, especially the final one. It's a gem of a game.

Only downsides are that : (a) a little on the short side, but I hear the Sequel is coming; (b) controls could have been a bit more intuitive. The "y/x" button to change weapons kept confusing me, I kept pressing as if it was "reload".

Highlights include the variety of weapons - brilliant choices, and a wonderful soundtrack. Why would anyone want to mute this game.

Re: Nintendo Download: 21st December (North America)

dumedum

At this point there are too many eShop games coming out every week. I think they should just drop the Thursday update... Games will be uploaded at any time. We're talking a huge flood here. Switch's popularity is staggering . It's viral.
