Re: Acclaimed Arcade Racer 'Horizon Chase Turbo' Being Delisted From Switch eShop

demacho

I hate hate hate Epic so ***** much. They're rotting this industry from the inside out.

It was bad enough when they unceremoniously shut down the online component of the game (which i think required very little maintenance, it was just record and ghost sharing and some asynchronous challenge races) without any announcement to relegate Aquiris to fortnite cosmetic development duty.

Aquiris was a studio that made actual passion projects, and was celebrated in its home country of Brazil. This development is crass and infuriating.

Re: Limited Edition Resident Evil Requiem Watches Launch Next Month

Are these RE merch or is it just a product placement tie in?

In any case, Hamilton is a legit brand so you likely will be getting an actually nice fancy watch. Not that I could afford to drop money on it lol. And the "limited edition" markup I'm certain is pumping things up unnecessarily. But these will be good watches.

@JimNorman So i was about to apply and then i realized the deadline was probably in Britain's timezone, and now I'm on a plane without wifi and might not make it in..... Plus I'm in the US..... I recorded a nice video and everything, feel pretty solid about it, I hope I land in time to get this in, and that I'm even eligible 😭

Re: PokéPark Kanto Includes A Major Area Those With Limited Mobility Can't Access

demacho

@KayFiOS I work with disabled people for a living and definitely understand that this is a major negative, but I don't think it necessarily reflects poorly on TPC. When it comes to a place for the public to use and enjoy, everything possible should be done to make it as accessible to all. But a lot of experiences involving nature and heavy physical activity are inherently impossible to be made accessible to people with serious mobility needs. It's a major bummer, but I don't think it's anybody's fault.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

demacho

@Ghosti if you genuinely think it's among the bottom percentage of all games you've ever played (of course i don't know what your ranking scale is but most people i think wouldn't rate a game they've bought 5/10 very often), that's fine, it seems like you've played enough to form your opinion about it

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

demacho

Anybody who gave this a 1 (or really anything lower than a 6) is just trying to make a point, and also probably hasn't even played it.

Yall, think about the true scale of what a terrible game can be, and understand this isnt that even though the graphics are a bit janky and there's no voice acting.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Forsaken (N64)

demacho

The NA one is one of the most memorable covers I've ever seen, since i first saw it wayyyy back in the day. There are games that i truly adore whose covers i remember far less distinctly than this one. And i never even knew what kind of game it was, even remotely, until a few months ago. I just knew it was rated M and had a pretty lady's face on it.

So, there's that

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Super Adventure Island (SNES)

demacho

Ah yes, the good old American approach of looking at the original Japanese box art, thinking to oneself, "We can do better. What if we just made this so, so much uglier?" and then executing

Ironically the Japanese art looks like it was going for an American cartoon style, and imo succeeds. The European version is arguably even worse than the American one bc it literally just takes the Japanese art, cuts it down, and puts it on a box with incredibly clumsy placement of logos and stuff. At least the American one is original.

Re: Fortnite Devs Hit With Unfair Labour Practice Filing Following AI Darth Vader Fiasco

@Edu23XWiiU if you understand how unions work, then you will understand how this actually makes the JEJ estate accepting this situation wrong ethically. First of all, it is very likely neither JEJ nor his estate fully understood the terms by which Llama, Epic, and Disney are using as permission to do this chaotic thing with his likeness, especially considering again there may be some shady liberties and deception being taken with the signed agreements. (The unethicalness in this regard would lie in the hands of Disney, Llama, Epic, et. al and not necessarily the JEJ estate.)

Secondly, if you are a member of a union, you must abide by the policies and principles of the union. That's the whole point, acting together and collectively to ensure the well being of the careers of everyone in the union. This is why scabs are detested. If JEJ's estate is willing to knowingly take money for something that the union stands against (and, standing against this kind of AI use is something we voted for and passed with a massive majority), then they are essentially acting as scabs on JEJ's behalf and undermining the solidarity, agency, and protections that the union provides its members, who are in an industry rife with exploitation of all sorts. Allowing this stuff to be done with JEJ's voice can set a precedent that opens the door for all sorts of stuff to be done with the likenesses of all actors, union or otherwise, hired for anything made by people with unsavory AI intentions.

I appreciate the concern but I don't need your pity, I need you to understand the nature of unions, and just generally why any time you hear actual artists standing against a specific use of AI, you should take them very seriously.
