Re: Nintendo Formally Acknowledges Same-Sex Marriage, Despite Japanese Law

@Dezzy70 i'm in the United States.

do you think that "beautiful equality" came about from people just not talking about homophobia and lgbtq issues? do you seriously think that is how such equality (which I'm sure you're overestimating) would spread outside London? or are you just satisfied with lgbtq people just being restricted to one safe city?

the more i read your responses the less I'm sure you're engaging in good faith, which is what i initially thought.

Re: Nintendo Formally Acknowledges Same-Sex Marriage, Despite Japanese Law

@Mortenb like..... banning same sex marriage, prosecuting trans people and their families, dropping hate crime protections from queer people (do you even know what the average lifespan of a trans Black woman in the states is? hint: it's not short because of diabetes), remember what happened to alan turing?......

was that a serious question? are you seriously just not familiar with the concept of homophobia?

Re: Review: Neon White - A Thrilling, Hilarious Genre Hybrid That You Simply Must Check Out

great gameplay, aesthetics, and somehow, machine girl music that doesn't make me want to stab my ears with pens. god i hate so much of what they do normally.

but the writing is full of ultra-cringey pseudo anime character tropes, exacerbated by truly insufferable voice performances. at least it helps me skip through the dialogue quicker instead of listening to the entire voiced lines like i usually do before advancing dialogue.

and it's still not enough to make the game not amazing. but that's more a function of how great everything else was. a lesser game would have been completely ruined by the writing and the acting here

@Mortenb "But Japan has a different concept and wants to keep reinforcing families procreating in traditional ways"

terrible justification for holding onto archaic and harmful practices and policies. how many lgbtq people from anywhere, but especially Japan and other countries with a "tradition" of discrimination against us (hint: that describes pretty much every country on earth today) have you actually talked to about what this stuff means for our lives?

Re: Nintendo Formally Acknowledges Same-Sex Marriage, Despite Japanese Law

demacho

@Dezzy70 you not being political is a function of your privilege to never have to be political to protect the lives of yourself, your loved ones, and people like you.

people like myself must be political else we take blow after blow to our own safety at the highest levels of lawmaking, and eventually end up with our very lives at risk from laws that prevent us from accessing Healthcare or facilitate persecution and violence from the government or other individuals. do you know who Alan turing is? we likely straight up wouldn't have video games period if it weren't for him.

if you actually care about a person in need, you would listen first to what they need, yes? if you actually do think it lgbtq people as equals, why would you not afford us the same when we're raising a stink about things that are harming us that we need support for, or express joy for things like this that may actually make a positive difference for us? if you don't, you don't actually treat us the same as you do cis straight people. you don't wilfully ignore others the way you do us.

Re: Nintendo Formally Acknowledges Same-Sex Marriage, Despite Japanese Law

@CANOEberry "disagreeing" on people's rights is not civil discourse. those who want people to shut up about our rights are being inherently disrespectful by even engaging from that direction regardless of how polite the phrasing. at best, you actually think you are doing good in the world by helping allow legitimately hateful bigots to engage in dialogue at a table they should simply not be permitted to sit at, as people who inherently do not respect others, and barring hurt and angry oppressed people from speaking out against that with emotional truthfulness, simply because you don't like the sound of people being upset. at worst, you may be one such bigot yourself. it is up to you to decide if you want to be either of those two, or if you want to be the kind of person who understands that "respectful dialogue" must be predicated on actual respect for other people, not just polite phrasing.

Re: Nintendo Formally Acknowledges Same-Sex Marriage, Despite Japanese Law

demacho

@Dezzy70 yeah you're way offbase on this

ignoring issues of identity based discrimination makes that stuff SIGNIFICANTLY worse, not perpetuate it. you don't put out a fire by pretending it doesn't exist.

plus this isn't just a statement, it's an announcement of actual company policy change with actual practical impact, and this kind of thing being implemented at a major company like this can push the needle in the right direction politically for lgbtq rights in a country that does not support them.

just because discussion of LGBTQ issues makes you uncomfortable does not mean the solution is for everybody to stop talking about them.

idk if you are queer yourself but i am and this kind of take infuriates me.

i love this. I'm a big combat sports fan and some of my favorite moments in those sports involve this kind of sportsmanship, in which one fighter recognizes and respects the meaninglessness of exploiting certain unearned advantages. like that one guy who re-set his opponent's arm after it dislocated in the middle of the fight so they could continue, or when Hall acknowledged his injury TKO over Weidman was not a meaningful victory.

this is a fighter's spirit, respect

Re: Fantasy-Action Battle Royale Spellbreak Shuts Down Early Next Year

Honestly it was a really fun game with a lot of interesting twists on the genre. i liked playing it way more than fortnite and aesthetically it was infinitely less obnoxious.

But as a f2p game it relied on cosmetics to generate revenue and frankly all of the cosmetics were resoundingly unexciting. they were not ugly by any means but in no way inspired purchases.

it sucks that the life of a game like that relies on something so frivolous.

Re: Random: Retro Studios Clashed With Metroid Producer On Halo Influences

demacho

it's a way the American film business often talks about new scripts ("Mad Max meets Gone With The Wind"), especially when pitching, and i ***** hate it (i work in that industry). it's so limiting to think that way and points to the very finite imagination of American entertainment execs.

so i sympathize with tanabe here, especially as they're talking about an IP retro didn't even create. and although i do love everything retro does including prime 3, i think the weakest parts of that game are the ones most derivative of other franchises like halo and COD.

Re: Video: We're Confused About Sonic Frontiers

@boxyguy yeah I'm unenthused about this game but if you told me it's in the early stages of development and they're just experimenting with ideas so far, i'd actually be kind of hyped for that spirit even if the results weren't working yet. at least intrigued by the question marks, rather than concerned.

but as it is this just looks like a messy game

Re: "What Do I Care?" - Nintendo Hacking Mastermind Defiant As Colleague Bowser Is Jailed

@TedGundy precisely. dude is full of himself and thinks he's doing a public good when he's literally become a millionaire himself from theft. theft from victims who aren't really hurting, but the point is he doesn't really have moral ground to be grandstanding, unless he's using those millions to actually fund the causes he's acting like he's advancing instead of his own luxurious lifestyle.

also, yeah, jail sucks. In fact as an American who sees how horrific the prison system can be at least in this country, I'm not a big fan of it altogether. but homie isn't gonna get any extra sympathy from me for this or that situation in his life. that's literally what every human being deals with when confronted with the possibility of imprisonment, and most of them aren't millionaires.

i will say this headline is a bit misleading, making it sound like he's callously leaving his teammate to rot, when "what do i care" was about the impact on Nintendo, and it was bowser who was trying to snitch on him.

Re: "Definitely No Legal Issues" Regarding Fei Long Appearing In Future Street Fighters, Says Capcom

demacho

i find it so obnoxious that that guy just made some ***** up, said it with very clear and definite terms, ("a character I know we won't see at all", "we won't see Fei Long. Ever"), then just walked it back saying it was"playful hypothetical thinking" when he was called on it. He was clearly just saying ***** for clout. Did he not think Lee's family wouldn't say anything? And I'm not coming from a neutral place with this but I generally am sick of white people putting words in Asians' mouths
