I never played the original though the good praise did make me want to invest in a wii u. but its too late in the consoles life to bother now with the NX around the corner. If the itch gets me bad ill get it for my N3DS
I used to be hard pressed for physical copies because of the lucrative trade in business but trading in games has become much less enticing because im not buying as many games as I used to. Now when i buy games im doing so with the intent to keep since theyre expensive and im much more selective.
As long as i have the game to play im fine and digital means i can own scores of them without taking up space. The only way im getting physical copies these days is with special editions.
Just because you CAN run a marathon with a broken leg doesnt mean you SHOULD.
The o3ds just cant run SNES games at a quality worth paying for. Its why people use homebrew to do so. It costs nothing, and when something is free you have more leeway to give on opinions on quality. Like it aint perfect but hey its free right?
But if I'm paying 7.99? SMW better work as best as it can. And Im pretty sure being choppy, framerate dipping, and no access to the OS/home menu for the sake of selling it on the o3ds would invite more scorn than praise
Waiting to see what the next games bring. Not much can be done to change the online, can't add any new pokemon this gen so I'm thinking Z or whatever 3rd game will be much like BW2 with an interesting battle facility or something.
They already had their bases covered by the time they released the N3DS. 2ds came out right around the time the old 3ds systems were loosing steam and breaking down. Anyone with a launch 3ds will know those things were built like single sheet toilet paper. When a cheap $120 replacement came around it was a done deal, with the 3DS XL being billed as a 3ds but bigger, the 2DS was the 3ds but cheaper. It was doing everything the old system could for less and what people preferred if they weren't geting the XL, which was cheaper than the OG 3ds was at launch.
By the time n3ds came out there wasn't much else they could grab out of the 3ds lovers. Anyone whose 3ds breaks down now will either settle for a 2ds or wait for what's coming next rather than spend 200 on aging hardware. And I love my n3ds. I'll never be able to go back to the older model systems because of how snappy the UI is and how much better the screens and processing is but even I know that will be rendered mute point if the NX is portable and has a backwards compatibility feature.
Honestly, looking over all that the n3ds is, it seems more like a proof of concept for what their next device could be capable of more than anything else. Much like the DSi line was proof they could make a multimedia handheld with digital games, the n3ds is proof they can make a system with two analog sticks and NFC functionality without substantially sacrificing form factor or battery life.
While a lot of AAA games today turn out to be lukewarm, there are a few good ones that really do get me thinking about a ps4 or xbone purchase (I own neither) and if more third parties can latch onto the NX that'd be great. Stuff like Fallout, Kingdom Hearts, GTA, Mortal Kombat, I'd like to play them on the NX console. First party titles are alright but Nintendo alone will never make enough games to satisfy my interests. Not that I'm a "hardcore mature gamer" its just that I don't feel like waiting for Nintendo to make their own answer to Fallout or their own GTA because Bethesda and Rockstar won't bring their games over
If the NX isn't backwards compatible, or not quite the handheld hybrid of talk and rumor, I can see a lot of interesting stuff being done on the N3DS well into the next couple of years.
The news would be a bit more palletable if they hadn't asked for more money to do more things, had some less than great community management, and if that fiasco of a kickstarter Red Ash hadn't happened. But still, only a bit because even without those, a year and a half wait beyond the original projected release date is a little testing. As it stands, I can only feel sympathy for anyone who backed this. Let's pray Inafune won't just disappear into the shadows like he did after that pirate game
I don't think it was worth it to NOT make it new 3ds exclusive. Along with the amount of people who say they wont pick it up just because of the lower graphics, I don't think anyone with an original 3ds will want to play this game at sub 15 fps with no option for 3d either.
You either see amiibos as collectables with something extra to offer or you see them as content gatekeepers. I'm with the former, since I like them as little toy figures of my favorite characters. So far, from what I've seen, they've only had a pretty negligible impact on games in terms of the content they unlock. I guess I can see where people are coming from with the whole "matter of principle, I should have everything on the disc" but I've never seen like, game altering stuff to the point where you just GOTTA have amiibos or your gaming experience just isnt complete without amiibo. But then again, I'm collecting them already so I'm speaking from a point of view where I've already jumped into the pool, and can afford to do so. Amiibos arent the cheapest toys.
I'm optimistic, and kind of glad I skipped the Wii U. Its a good system but I can wait to get one used some other time. I'm really excited about the coming NX platform since all signs are pointing to no backwards compatibility (all the ports, HD remakes coming to Wii U, the Wii U basically has become the 1 stop shop for all Nintendo games past and present save for 3DS ) so all focus of the system will be straight forward.
Its a hard sell when games are still able to be played on older models, but the complete system reset and lockout of system apps from games like Smash Bros and MH4U made me want to upgrade. Theres also the brightness, the snappier OS, better internet and ability to use WiFi to wirelessly swap files from system to PC that make me happy with my purchase.
I'm thinking we'll get maybe one last exclusive (metroid prime port? Could dream) and new games like MHX, Hyrule Legends etc will take advantage of the CPU the same way smash and 4u do
@Retro_on_theGo Capcom Jp released a few videos displaying the different "Hunting Arts" and hunting styles that give you an idea of whats going on with all the flashy moves they show in the first trailer. Gaijinhunter, Kogath, and Arekkz have the game and are playing it, lots of updates on their twitters and respective YouTube channels (all in English too) https://youtu.be/DJTXegRjAGA
If its small bits of dialogue and/or a few outfit changes I don't really care. When core gameplay features are changed or removed THEN I care. At that point why even localise it if you're going to remove chunks of the game? But this is just a costume, an edit. At most, if there weren't the current storm about Nintendo's love of changing things, it'd show up in a Did You Know Gaming video or a Japanese/English comparison video by someone with more time than I have to care.
Wish they didn't put sailor schoolgirl Isabelle and inkling badges at the bottom load screen if they weren't available yet. iirc none of the badges on the load screen not even the Mario kart ones were up the first day. Guess I gotta wait. My wallets shut til then.
I wonder if they'll bring back physical rewards, though if they don't I hope they'll give out some decent downloadable rewards (no Metroid 2 included I've seen that game enough times)
I can understand why TPCi wanted to put a stop to this. Using the official name, images, and charging for entry into the event/making a profit with the name seems pretty open and shut for a copyright claim. The function being at a bar and with alcohol is probably why they were quick to move, not wanting their brand associated with adult activities.
And yeah, I'm sure there's hundreds of places that are doing the exact same things and promoting their own Pokémon themed events using copyright materials. Doesn't make them right in doing so, or make TPCi petty for not turning a blind eye in this case when they saw their IP being used sans permission.
this was a pretty nice option during this console's lifespan. cheaper, but offers the same core 3ds experience, the price going down further but the quality still there. like, I purchased a 2DS for 48 bucks used off of ebay. I'm sure by the time the NX is announced next year these things will be going for 20-25 bucks. a pretty attractive option if the NX isn't backwards compatible, and a good enough option now for people not trying to drop 200 on a N3DS.
Legend of Legacy looks interesting. Other than that...not much for me. Which is great for catching up with some games I missed. I've got more than enough Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate to plow through and restarting ACNL will give me something to do until 2016 which is looking like Monster Hunter X, a new Pokemon, Bravely Second, etc
I like them as toys moreso than content unlockers but I dont have any because the ones I've had eyes for are gone in a flash while there always seems to be stock of Mario and Luigi. If other characters were more readily available I'd be more inclined to collect some. But as it stands with stocks low and scalping high, I honestly can't bring myself to give too much of a hoot. Too much disappointment to be had trying to get the one you want and someone selling it at 3x the market value is a real turn off so in the end I might spend like 60 bucks on a fully articulated figure before that same price for an amiibo.
I honestly think Nintendo had a decent idea but the high demand and not properly sating said demand has pretty much ensured that whenever more come out the first in line are resellers and not the people who actually want to useuse and or collect these things.
I'll pass. I got Mewtwo and barely play him already and I'm not much of a completionist that I need to have every single character. I'll wait to see what other characters get revealed and save my meager 5 bucks for someone like Ryu lol
Downloads have gotten me. Its a space and convenience thing. I don't have a place to put a bunch of the games I've downloaded, and having them all in one place helps when I want to go from playing MH to SSB4 on the fly. I've never been much of a collector, and I'm not all that attached to the games I buy. There's very few I can honestly say I've played after a few years or a game I've wanted to continually go back to except like Shadow of the Colossus but, like the pokemon games, after like 600 hours I'm basically through and on to the next thing. The only thing I can say physical offers me over digital is trading in the games I'm done with. But by then I only get like 10 bucks , making my physical purchase cost me as much as the digital would have on an eshop sale, like about 30 bucks.
Its not much of a problem for me currently, BUT I can definitely see it being an issue in the next few years when the market is wholly digital and games come and go faster than I can keep up with, with gems disappearing before I can play them. There's like no assurance the catalog will be the same next week let alone next year, so if something came out today when I'm broke and it was the new hotness, then gone next week when I get money and I just can't play it, I'd be salty.
The amount of ad revenue Nintendo would get from this program would dwarf in comparison to the amount of sales they'd get for games and consoles if they just let content creators do whatever they wanted and sell their products for them with all manners of creative content. I'm guessing Nintendo is trying to do its best to safe-guard its image as a family friendly business, but after you promote yourself as a "big boy" game company and publish a game like Bayonetta 2 and get a spread in Playboy, that's out the window
A really "meh" kind of offering, especially since I own/have owned most of the 3DS retail download games like KI: U and SM3DL. I'm hoping that since these are up for grabs for coins, there'll be some different games available for Elite Status members.
holding out. hoping to get some cool physical thing and one of the games available to elite members. the physical rewards will probably end up being rare collectibles, with the added bonus of being harder for scalpers to get their hands on lol
I have a feeling they'll make the standard model an exclusive purchase at certain stores sometime in the future. It could see it going the way of the Gameboy Advance Micro (which also had interchangable plates) and be marketed to the "hip and cool" crowd, sold here and there and quietly fade into obscurity after the small amount of people who wanted it (like me) gets it. Then they can sell plates online or people can import them or whatever.
My only hope is that IF they do that, they don't publicly announce it as "limited run" or "special edition" because whenever that happens, people with more money than decency will buy up all the stock at once and scalp the living hell out of them.
one or two bucks isn't bad. because of tax, some games on the eshop have odd pricing and leave you with a measly number of dollars and cents you can't buy any worthwhile games with, so I can at least buy something interesting to go with my spare eshop balance
I have an ambassador 3ds and looking at all the upgrades the 3ds has had over the years, from the CPP to the XL, all the special edition consoles and the 2ds, I've definitely been tempted to upgrade and I'm glad I waited. while the N3ds definitely smells of "stop gap for the next handheld being announced at the end of 2015" I still want it, since its pretty much garunteed to be the last iteration of the system and I won't have to worry about any more revisions before the next handheld (like what more can they add to it without making it a whole new system?)
I probably won't get the next handheld as early as I did the 3ds so I'll have the N3ds to hold me over until the second revision of that new console comes along. there's a decent backlog for me to play through and I'd rather play it on this new improved best iteration of the system than my old, wobbly hinge, screen scratched ambassador.
I'd be invested if it had multiplayer. Even prime hunters had a multiplayer mode but I can see why they wouldn't have one because of server maintenance and upkeep and stuff required for that
The color of the Darknaught suggests its the Zelda-possesed one from Spirit Tracks so I think its an attack and not a trophy. Which would be pretty cool to see
Do they even want people to use Club Nintendo anymore because seriously the incentives aren't enticing at all. I hope they're planning on rolling in a new program by next year where you can trade in your coins to get eshop credits to buy something worhwhile on the shop. At least then I'd be more diligent in purchasing games if the potential reward could be a full retail one.
@Cyrso I'm getting increasingly irritated by the amount of people who don't fully understand that these aren't actual articles reporting on anything but are opinion pieces meant to spark conversation.
They're called "Soapbox" as an indicator that they aren't to be taken as literal evidence and factual must-follow journalism but opinions that the editors and writers for the site have. It's their moment to show bias and back it up with their opinions and whether you agree or not you discuss in the comments. Its the point. The authors alway make it obviously clear in what they write that its from personal opinion and belief.
For the lord's holy sake there is even a pole at the bottom of the article in which you're meant to take and view and discuss differing opinions. There's no need for you or others to get your knickers in a twister over NintendoLife and act like they're throwing a wrench in your face with flagrent fanboyism that taints all reporting they do because they have opinions from time to time and write them and allow open discussion. Calm down.
I have a feeling they'll bring it to the west but rather than develop a Wii U version along side a localisation, I think they'll go the Ace Attorney Dual Destinies route and localize via eshop only to save as much money as possible
@AhabSpampurse I don't think anyone is upset to that degree, I mean I don't see any long crazy rants in the comments to justify "stop moaning and being an idiot".
It being free doesn't mean that people shouldn't or aren't allowed to voice their opinions about it. It may not cost anything but there's some standard of quality attributed to other free youtube apps that this one falls a fair bit below, so people are going to be a tad upset when the phone version that is also free is 5x better in comparison.
No one is going to keep using it if they find it janky and useless, but not without telling other people why they think it is or isn't worth their or anyone else's time.

My only hope is that IF they do that, they don't publicly announce it as "limited run" or "special edition" because whenever that happens, people with more money than decency will buy up all the stock at once and scalp the living hell out of them.
Re: First Impressions: Taking To The Skies In Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy+
Does it have online multiplayer?
Re: Almost 50 Different System Themes Revealed Prior To New 3DS Launch
one or two bucks isn't bad. because of tax, some games on the eshop have odd pricing and leave you with a measly number of dollars and cents you can't buy any worthwhile games with, so I can at least buy something interesting to go with my spare eshop balance
Re: Nintendo Confirms Development of Games That Will Have "Improved" Gameplay and "Enhanced" Graphics on New 3DS
Re: Renegade Kid's New 3DS FPS Is Moon Chronicles
I'd be invested if it had multiplayer. Even prime hunters had a multiplayer mode but I can see why they wouldn't have one because of server maintenance and upkeep and stuff required for that
Re: Zelda Unveiled as New Smash Bros. Challenger
The color of the Darknaught suggests its the Zelda-possesed one from Spirit Tracks so I think its an attack and not a trophy. Which would be pretty cool to see
Re: New System Update Is Winging Its Way To 3DS Consoles Right Now
I can launch youtube from miiverse on the 3ds. not sure if you could already do that
Re: Club Nintendo Rewards Are Updated for December
Do they even want people to use Club Nintendo anymore because seriously the incentives aren't enticing at all. I hope they're planning on rolling in a new program by next year where you can trade in your coins to get eshop credits to buy something worhwhile on the shop. At least then I'd be more diligent in purchasing games if the potential reward could be a full retail one.
Re: Soapbox: Even With The Arrival Of PS4 And Xbox One, I'd Still Pick The Wii U
Calm down.
Re: Monster Hunter 4 Has Shipped Over Four Million Units in Japan
I have a feeling they'll bring it to the west but rather than develop a Wii U version along side a localisation, I think they'll go the Ace Attorney Dual Destinies route and localize via eshop only to save as much money as possible
Re: The 3DS YouTube App Has Finally Gone Live
Re: Review: Mario Party: Island Tour (3DS)
I was hoping for an online mode but...oh well if it becomes a bargain bin thing I might pick it up.
Re: North American Club Nintendo Releases a Gorgeous Link Between Worlds Poster Set
I'm gonna be saving my coins. I have a deep feeling that Nintendo is going to offer a really good game for download in the coming months
