Not so long ago it was announced that there'll be a new Mega Man cartoon in 2017, which is something to look forward to, but Keiji Inafune and his Comcept team evidently don't want their spiritual successor to Capcom's IP - Mighty No. 9 - to be outshone. In an announcement that sent our collective eyebrows skyrocketing it's been confirmed that there'll be a live-action movie. Not a cartoon, live-action.
It's looking likely that it'll be a digital-only movie, as Legendary Digital and Contradiction Films are signed up for the project; they previously published and produced the game-related Dead Rising: Watchtower, which was released on the Crackle download service and starred some recognisable - albeit second-tier - actors. Based on the trailer below it's not that bad.
Coming back to Mighty No. 9's movie, Keiji Inafune had this to say.
The announcement that Legendary Digital is collaborating with Contradiction and comcept on creating a live action project based on Mighty No. 9 is really amazing, not only for myself and the rest of the team at Comcept who worked on the game, but also for all the fans who have supported the project. This collaboration will give our creation the ability to reach people all over the world. Thanks to all of your support, we have fulfilled another one of our dreams.
Are you excited about this, horrified or a bit of both? Let us know.

Am I missing something, isn't Mno.9 just a Kickstarter that began recently, why does it deserve a film?! Let alone live action!
...Ya wanna wait until the game's released first? See if it's actually successful? That's sure as hell what I'd do!
Comcept has been starting Kickstarters left and right. I mean, the started one for another Mega Man inspired game before the first one even launched. It's pretty distasteful if you ask me. But after the customer relations disaster that happened with this game I won't be buying it anyway.
@EverythingAmiibo Comcast is already planning to launch another Kickstarter based on Mega Man Legends.
Im just utterly confused. Its always conserning to see a live adaption of a video game, let alone a cartoony indie game that's not even out yet...just weird.
The shark has officially been jumped.
Didn't they already announce a MN9 cartoon?
this is ridiculous.
I hope this is a joke.
@thatguyEZ I guess that statement can technically be true, since there are 3 total Kickstarters that I know of. So one on the left, one on the right and one behind them?
I don't understand why video game movies have to be live action. We have two PlayStation properties that resemble proper movies.
Can we get the game first? Also this should be animated.
Im telling the truth, but they failed it.
If they waited AFTER the game released and see if was good maybe, but just maybe, it could be a good movie
I'm going to laugh so hard if this game turns out to be just a crappy boring rehash of platforming games of old. This love action movie idea is like making a movie for super meat boy, if super meat boy wasn't released yet!
Why in the name of hell does Mighty No. 9 needs a live-action movie? The game isn't even out yet! Inafune needs to be put on a leash because he true don't know how to handle money. Why the flying f*** does Mighty No. 9 needs a movie now? The game isn't even out yet, and nobody f***ing ask for this! Nobody, nobody in there right mind asked. Why would Inafune waste time and money on something that nobody will watch instead of developing his already bad looking game? And I won't be surprise if this in up being a flop because nobody wanted this. At this point Capcom is performing better than Inafune, at least they won't make a f***ing movie for something that don't needs one, at least they are slowly trying to redeem there selves. Inafune is doing nothing but wasting money on something that is not needed, when he should be adding more to Mighty No. 9. I losted all respect for the man, there is only so many times you can make a mistake, and this was the last straw.
Keiji Inafune is disappointing everyone...
Does the series even have any fans that would want to watch this already?
Does it have any games yet, for that matter?
@Tops
Fully agree.
Granted there's no concrete evidence for this but I get the feeling that Inafune is being driven more by spite for Capcom than anything else. If so, it will be the end of him. It's one thing to show Capcom that there is a market for it's beloved IPs but this nonsense is something else entirely.
Did somebody say "Sharks"?
Oh noo...a live-action movie spin-off about a game that's a spin-off of the Mega Man series...that just can't end good... I mean, look at most popular live-action movies that try to emulate media that's animated: The Last Airbender? Transformers? That DBZ movie? That live-action Street Fighter movie back in the day? Even King of Fighters had one, amazingly...
@Yorumi Nice. that made me laugh
It's surprising to see them make a film before the game is released.
@WaveBoy This just in, a new kickstarter has launched for a Mighty No. 9 theme park! Finally! I was begining to think I'd have to play the game first!
Maybe I'm just not being a good sport, but I... just want to play Mightly No. 9. That's all, nothing else. With all this hype and propaganda, the game must be stupid amazing. Guess we'll see soon enough.
1:it's not nice to classify this as "weirdness"
2:this doesn't qualify as Nintendo News
3:this might be a good movie, we'll have to wait and see
Welcome to Comcept, we make games I think??
Definitely putting the cart before the horse with this and the Red Ash kickstarter. MN9 isn't even out yet.
@Ninstarkof 1. How is it not nice to put this as weirdness.
2. Yes it is Nintendo News, Mighty No. 9 is a Wii U and 3DS game.
3. People are giving negative reaction because of Inafunes past thingz.
also it's live action
Yeah, overblown PR campaigns like that never hurt a product ever. Let alone a product that isnt even out yet and already attracts negativ press in regards to its blandness.
Whats next ? A new boardgame, 2 sequels, one of them being a crossover with angry birds, the other one with sonic runners ? A TV Sitcom, a book series and a theme park ?
@Thatguywhoeats LOL
1:it's not nice because it's an official thing which people are working hard on. How would you like it if someone called a movie you were working on "weird"?
2:not only is this a 3rd party game, but this is MOVIE news
"Comcept has been starting Kickstarters left and right. I mean, the started one for another Mega Man inspired game before the first one even launched"
I agree! Comcept/Inafune have to slow down. If not people will lose their interest very soon. Its a bit like the situation with that French guy (forgot his name). He had hundreds of ideas, but almost nothing came to fruition.
On a side-note: This is a family site, hence no swearing allowed. However, recently the guys from this site just post violent video's in the article's, for everyone to see. Morals, gotta love them!
Yeesh, the game isn't even out, yet, and they're already putting together both an animated series and a live-action movie? This hardly feels like an indie effort, in truth.
Mighty No. 9 is the Sonic Boom of Mega Man. Hell, the game really doesn't look all that great. That initial concept image looked leagues better than anything they've shown since.
Gunvolt was cool, at least.
