Mario Kart success in the chart is usually linked to a fresh batch of Switch consoles hitting the UK. As per the last couple of lockdowns here demand for the Switch absolutely sky rockets.
As of right now the Switch is unavailable through key retailers (Amazon, Game, Currys PC World, Argos). Pretty incredible nearly 4 years after release! CEX are selling used consoles above RRP.
As a 2 Switch household, they might want to make managing digital games across 2 devices a little easier for a start.
I consider myself fairly intelligent but getting my head around the whole primary console thing and the best way to set everything up with the least amount of issues was a major undertaking. I think I got the clearest answer from a forum comment!
This makes no sense. Unless Netflix were working on a Zelda series with Nintendos knowledge (i.e. in the hope of them agreeing to it once they'd seen test footage), why would Nintendo 'freak' out over something they'd have full knowledge of?!
My favourite thing about this is that the arrow actually keeps going on a realistic trajectory. It doesn't just disappear as it would in so many games.
The game world is insanely detailed and well realised.
Been playing this with my 6 year old during lockdown and wow, what a game. We've defeated Ganon twice now (once before getting all the memories, once after) and reached 113 shrines completed yesterday.
Comfortably the greatest game I've ever played, and playing with a 6 year old is a delight as he tries things I would never, ever think of. It's a credit to the game design that 99% of the time, if he has an idea, the game will let him do it.
It does feel like hard work early on, but with the divine beast powers, master sword and some nice armor it's great to just explore everywhere, so many details hidden away.
He defated a white lynel on his own yesterday, he was running around the house for joy after!
Is there anything to stop Nintendo re-running many of these old Amiibos? Thousands of people are picking up games like BOTW for the first time at the moment but the actual range of available Amiibos is incredibly slim now.
It's potential profit that is going straight into the hands of scalpers and second hand sellers. My son desperately wanted the Zelda Guardian Amiibo but the cost is eye-watering now. I'm almost ashamed to say we bought a pack of cards on Amazon just to get hold of a few that we wanted to use in the game.
Customers are ALWAYS responsible for the goods they import. Blaming the company you bought the item from is just trying to deflect the blame for your own lack of research.
Arrived today with a lovely notebook, postcards, poster etc. Safely tucked away for my sons Christmas present. He's sunk a good 10-15 hours into the demo, loves it!
@frabbit I'd not tried it until I read your post (so after the update), but maybe this is something they've fixed, as when you go to 1-2 and warp to 1-2, it only lets you do that once. The next time you try it you get a different selection of levels.
@Silly_G Gemini Man, shot at 120fps but plenty of 3D 60fps screenings in the UK at the time, we typically have fairly modern projection here, most if not all Odeons are kitted out for it, for example.
The difficulty is definitely ramping up now, I don't know whether that's because I'm levelling up (I'm at 40) or because players are figuring out the tactics.
Put nearly 2 hours into this already, it's so good.
Finally won after an absurdly tense 20 minute round. Just two of us left for a good 5 minutes. I'm a terrible 2D Mario gamer, but there are tactics that work really well if you can literally just learn the basics of timing basic jumps.
Tips:
Start with a mushroom, don't waste coins on fire flower as you can get one almost immediately anyway.
Don't use the fire flower if you don't need it. Bop enemies instead and stack up as much time as possible. I can have 200-300 on the timer within a couple of levels now, which all but guarantees a top 3 finish even if you play it very safe from then on.
Don't rush through levels, there really isn't any benefit to doing so.
Never pass up on an opportunity to jump on an enemy. Having time in the bank makes everything so much easier.
You actually want enemies being thrown at you as much as possible, I don't entirely understand the logic but going with 'Attackers' seems to be the best for that.
It's undeniably cool, but space, flooring and cost will be massive factors in the success of this.
Our living room has space and we could afford it, but our living room is fully carpeted (fairly standard in the UK, at least) so this is a no go, sadly.
Came third after finally figuring out what the hell was going on. There is no handholding whatsoever, as far as I could tell, so I had to figure out what coins and the 4 options at the top of the screen meant.
Between this, Rollercoaster Tycoon and Two Point Hospital the Switch is becoming quite the little home for portable management goodness.
Free to play mechanics absolutely destroyed the genre on mobiles (were they'd work so, so well if done properly) so I'm thrilled that a few have found homes on a portable system.
Amazon UK (automatically?) link their prices to other well known retailers here in the UK. If Argos or Currys (for example) lower the price of something on their website, the Amazon UK price will instantaneously drop to the same price. That's certainly true of many games, toys and other products.
I'm guessing they have some sort of algorithm that sets certain thresholds, but there have been some pretty crazy prices because of that system in the past. My son wanted a particular Playmobil set for Christmas, somewhere like Smyths dropped their last few from £60 down to £15, Amazon UK immediately matched it.
These are exactly the sort of 'mid-tier' games that could do with a review. The eShop is so full of stuff it's hard to pick the vaguely competent stuff from the lazy mobile ports.
There is no way I'm taking a risk on it, is what I'm saying.
Ours started drifting after 4 months (UK). Thankfully the repair service was quick (and free) and it came back as good as new.
I won't hesitate to go through the repair service if it starts to go again.
It is worth noting that this isn't exactly 'little guy takes on Nintendo and wins' as you might see for class actions in the US. Small claims really is just that, most companies will just pay up as it's cheaper than actually getting involved legally.
@MS7000 if you're not interested in decorating, fishing, bug catching, fossils or village life it's kinda understandable that the game isn't holding your attention...those things pretty much are the game!
That would be like saying you got bored of Minecraft because you don't like surviving or building or exploring.
I make heavy use of the Wishlist feature to make it manageable, although announced games are really slow to get added (Hotshot Racing still isn't there, for example).
Even that doesn't always work though. Street Fighter 30th Anniversary has been on my wish list for ages. They dropped the price from £44.99 to £24.99 in the UK this week, but it's not a sale price, it's a permanent price drop, so it didn't flag up in any way.
And they still literally can't get consoles out quickly enough to meet demand. It's essentially been sold out (in terms of regularly finding units on sale in shops) in the UK since late December.
Stock arrives, stock goes. Same for Ring Fit Adventure, even Animal Crossing can be tricky to buy sometimes.
It's easy to forget that at most, 1 in 4 Switch owners owned a Wii U. That leaves around 40m people who never owned a Wii U.
I'm not sure what lifetime Pikmin 3 sales were, but I'm assuming it's significantly under 50% of Wii U ownership, so you're probably looking at 50m+ Switch owners who have never played this.
@fadedcolors you've had a game which has given you, on average, nearly 2 hours per day (every single day) from release until today. I imagine for most people, that's significantly more than they are able to play games for.
Also, I can't be the only one with a huge backlog of excellent indie titles to play, right?!
@Benhop07 In the UK they are great if you're a digital gamer, in fact they are now the only way to get a discount on first party digital games since Nintendo withdrew codes from retailers like ShopTo.
For £168 I got Animal Crossing, Breath of the Wild, Super Smash Bros and Super Mario Maker 2, that would be £219.96 if purchased separately, so it was essentially like getting one game free (and lots of points, obviously)
It's a worry that Hidden Side is apparently being abandoned this summer, that doesn't exactly bode well for digital integration of Lego.
I can't help but feel this would have been far more successful (with both kids and AFOLs) if they had gone down the route of traditional minifigures and sets. A mix of sets, minifigure blind bags and some very cool AFOL sets (like the NES) just feels like a much better approach to this than what is essentially a gimmick with figures that cannot really be integrated into the masses of regular Lego that kids already have (I know for a fact my son would have built a minifig scale Mario Kart, had they released traditional minifigures).

Re: These Adorable Pikmin Plush Are Being Restocked In Japan
Nintendo could make so much more money if they could actually be bothered, bringing these to the rest of the world would be a start.
Also see: restocking old Amiibos (and many other things).
Re: Random: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 Trends On Social Media Ahead Of Nintendo's Direct Broadcast
I'm calling a new Ring Fit accessory game or something else entirely leftfield.
I'd actually like a new experience with the excellent Ring Fit kit.
Re: Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, Wednesday 17th February
This'll be my first 'full fat' Direct as a Switch owner (bought mine Christmas 2019).
I've put up with 15 months of people moaning about the lack of these, I hope it's good!
Re: Random: Breath Of The Wild's Secret Debug Room Is Full Of Weapons, Frogs, And A Bull In A Box
@OorWullie I won't spoil it, but finishing the game actually makes no difference to your potential for continued enjoyment from it.
My son has put significantly longer into the game since 'completing it' than he did before facing Ganon!

Re: Super Mario 3D World Trailer Shows Off Two Minutes Of Bowser's Fury Gameplay
Worth remembering this site is essentially an echo chamber for Wii U owners.
95% of Switch owners (quite possibly even more than that) will never have played this, so the entire game will be brand new to them.

Re: Poll: Have You Won A Game Of Super Mario Bros. 35?
Won shortly after it came out but it's getting harder now.
From 5 left to around 3 left is probably the most fun part of the game, top 2 can be pretty painful as it's basically just a war of attrition.

@Scrubicius I've seen a 60fps film in the cinema, horrible. It's like watching a TV movie.

Re: Review: The Long Dark - Just Like Real Life, Nature Is Your Enemy Here
I wouldn't worry too much about the graphical downgrade, I've had it since launch and it looks absolutely fine.
Worth it to be play at night in bed with headphones on, really immersive experience.
Worth noting that this goes through battery life like nothing else, averaging 1% per minute on my Switch Lite.

Insta-buy.

Re: Poll: Did You Know That Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit Supports Up To Four Players?
