Original Article (Thu 9th Jul, 2020 14:15 BST): Nintendo of Europe has kickstarted a new initiative which will let fans earn double the normal amount of Gold Points on qualifying purchases this summer.
As you may know, buying games from the Nintendo Switch eShop earns you Gold Points which can then be spent on future purchases. You'd usually earn 5% of your purchase back in Gold Points, but from now until 12th August, select games will grant you a lovely 10%.
The campaign has started today, with the following three games now granting you double Gold Points as long as you buy them before the promotion ends.
- Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition
- Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy Deluxe Edition
- Snipperclips – Cut it out, together!
Each week, another three games will be added to the promotion, stacking on top of the offers revealed in previous weeks. New games will be added each Thursday up until 30th July.
If you regularly buy games digitally and have had your eye on any of the games above, now wouldn't be a bad time to strike. Let us know if you take advantage of this new offer with a comment below.

This is an interesting idea, but I can't help but think that what we are getting are a list of games that won't be on sale for a while as opposed to extra gold points.
Wow, now I can get twice as many slightly discounted 3DS/Wii U games that I already own.
@HeroponRiki You are confused my man. Platinum points are for 3DS and Wii U games. Gold points are for spending on the Switch eshop.
@MS7000 You nailed it. Pretty sure DQXI S has already been on sale at a bigger discount than we’d get with double gold points.
Are there any (good) games which never go on sale? Off the top of my head, the only one I can think of is Obra Dinn.
Savvy shoppers will save more by simply waiting for a sale, rather buying at full price for a few extra gold points.
10% return in coins is not as good as a flat 20% off.
@Krull I'm still waiting patiently for Night in the Woods to go on sale. I just know if I buy it then the next week it'll be 50% off.
@ViewtifulJotun ...uhhhh...it was 40% off two weeks ago... https://www.dekudeals.com/items/night-in-the-woods
I was going to buy Catherine this week but I will wait and see if it ends up in this offer. I know it will get a sale at some point but I want to show support so we can finally get some Persona games!
@RupeeClock very good point. It's probably a sign of the times and the popularity of the system, but it seems we get so much better sales than we did on the WiiU and 3ds. I miss the points we got for taking surveys tho.
@shazbot D'oh! Lucky I've got so much in my backlog then (crying on the inside)
How does this work alongside the European voucher promotion?
Bad deal considering you save way more on sale.
Should have been 10% on all games.
Double gold points is the kind of offer that should be on the whole eshop, not a measly 3 games.
they're really making a big deal out of a additional 5% cash back?
There should have just done the 10% but for all games, not the ones they chose, and for physical titles too, which grant only 1% of the cost. Nintendo isn't particularly generous with rewards.
@Benji80 yes and buy eShop vouchers for less than their worth on CD keys to save a little more. This is how I do it with first party games in the voucher scheme. CD keys were selling eShop vouchers for up to 20% lower than eShop price. That’s like free money in my view!!
It seems at the moment there aren’t great discounts on eShop vouchers on CDkeys. It does change regularly though.
5% discount. That's what this is. Which is like £2.50 off of a £50 game.
Gold points are really underappreciated. Using Gold points, I got $5 off Breath of the Wild and Three Houses DLC and got Manticore GoF for absolutely free after using gold points on the sale price. Currently saving enough to get Doom 64 for free too. 😁
Hopefully a similar deal like this comes to NA.
My Wish List probably has about 50 games on my Switch and I check it daily. I have a rule that unless it’s 50% or more off, I don’t buy it. I used to be very impatient and buy games when they were released but there’s so much now and I’m so behind on my games that even when I buy them, I probably still won’t get around to playing them anytime soon. There’s exceptions of course but those are rare. It just makes sense since there’s so many games out there - FOMO aside of course, but I can wait.
@Benji80 I wonder if you will also get the double gold points too! I ask because I got some extra gold points when preordering Link's Awakening despite using a NSO game voucher to purchase... I'm thinking you would. I've been tempted by DQ for a while and I've got one voucher left.
When the game that look decent are the ones you already own...
I wonder when Nintendo will do a player select range for the switch. There are a number of games that could get a new lease of life with a cut price range.
Been a little while since we had a proper sale with a couple of first party titles with 33% off, got to be due one soon, surely?
They're going to have to do more than this to entice me to buy games at £50 a pop.
Perhaps it is time to get Dragon quest, quite enjoyed the demo, but was caught up in other games when it released.
I hope when DQXIS releases in the other platforms, it will get a huge sale on Swith, to match the price of the other platforms... Right?
Wait i just bought DQXIS 3 days before. So i get double gold?
Very bad deal considering you barely get any discount at all.
Extra 5% discount is almost nothing at all.
These so called discounts are laughable at best.
I am working my way through Xenoblade 2, after years in my backlog. Despite the gameplay not standing up to the original, the story is quite good. Give it a try if navigating lots of JRPG menus does not intimidate you.
This have to be some of the worst promotions ever.
The only two games of interest which I didn't already own can be bought in physical form for loads cheaper than buying digitally on the eshop, so even considering the additional 5% in gold points it's really not worth it. Shame.
