Great week for Nintendo in the UK. It's great that Nintendo is selling so well in a market that hasn't been very profitable for them historically.

great job nintendo. once again no ps5 games in the top 10. In Japan, they released their top 100 selling games of 2020. Nintendo everything posted the list. Not one PS5 game or x box x/s game. Switch had the most.
I would like to get an x box series s one day, but why not now? as IGN , RGT 85 DREAM CAST GUY AND other video game youtubers and websites are saying, "So what there is a shortage of PS5s and Series x/s svstems, there is NOTHING TO PLAY ON THEM RIGHT NOW!".
OUCH! what a burn. sorry Demon souls and spiderman. When the Switch was launched, there was ZELDA Breath of the wild and a month later , there was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. You know AAA Must have games?
we got our switch as a gift back in then and even though there were shortages. we still got the games! and when our system came, we had games to play on our switch. we did not want to take the chance of zelda and kart being sold out, once we got our system.
And sony needs to stop with the excuses. the svstem sold 4.5 million in 2020. AND NOT 1 SINGLE GAME IN THE US, UK OR JAPAN made it into the top 10. can you say that about zelda or mk8 deluxe? no you cannot .
Sony and Microsoft have nothing to play on their systems right now. They should have delayed the machines until they had AAA quality titles like BOTW AND MK8D. now all people have is a 500 dollar door stop. both companies have stumbled. and it is costing them both in game sales.

I know what you mean. I bought it on Wii U and the DLC. So it's been, what, 6-7 years of it for me so I'd love a new game or at least some more DLC. But the bad thing is that virtually every time there is a new household that gets a Switch, MK8 Deluxe is also one of the obligatory games they buy for it.

Just takes a quick look at all three's finaincial reports to see Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are all flying high right now which is great for us consumers as competition is required as it keeps them all honest and we reap the benefits.

I am a Nintendo man first and foremost but I will own a PS5 and Series X(when the new Killer Instinct comes out) along with my Switch in the future.

Mario Kart success in the chart is usually linked to a fresh batch of Switch consoles hitting the UK. As per the last couple of lockdowns here demand for the Switch absolutely sky rockets.

As of right now the Switch is unavailable through key retailers (Amazon, Game, Currys PC World, Argos). Pretty incredible nearly 4 years after release! CEX are selling used consoles above RRP.

@michellelynn0976 ps5 sales are dwarfed by ps4 sales, any ps4 exclusive went straight to number one, Where for Nintendo switch I believe only 3 games have done that.

Also on launch the switch had a poor line up, zelda was a wiiu port and so was mario kart deluxe, infact most of the switch first party exclusives so far have been ports/remasters.

I already explained when the console comes back into stock the sales of PS5 games go up, just look up the last couple of weeks charts to see that. The new Hitman had more UK sales on PS5 than any other console.

PS5 had the biggest console launch of all time and people buy their games when they buy the console and then there is a lull, perfectly natural for the launch of a console, Switch had it too.

Don't get me wrong all those games are excellent and I enjoy my switch exclusives more than ps4 exclusives but I owned a wiiu and bought every new game they released (1st party) and since I don't like animal crossing there's not a lot for me to play on the switch lately thats "new"

The ps5 is struggling to get units made and covid has pushed games back and in Japan handheld gaming is the main way to play, just wait til monster hunter rise comes out! Then the sales of the switch will go further up, but right now the switch and ps5 are not competitors in my eyes, the ps5 is about raw power, graphics and atm those big third party games whilst the switch relies on its first party games.

Once the ps5 gets stock readily available and games like ratchet and clank, God of war, horizon and final fantasy 16 come out im sure they will be in the charts

You realise it is a weekly chart yes? Therefore it can fluctuate from week to week based upon, you guesed it, when the the PS5 comes back into stock.

Just look up previous articles of the UK charts.

Xbox is less of a factor because of Gamepass so it doesn't impact the charts as much when there is a re-stock. Series S/X were the best selling consoles in the UK January but you couldn't tell from the charts.

When PS5 reaches something approaching sustainable stock here in the UK the charts will be much more balanaced between Sony and Nintendo, guaranteed.

Nintendo did it the other way around. They released all their old games at full price on their new console.

PS5 and Series S/X do that for free woth backwards compat and usually with better performance. I would rather pay full price for a brand new game also released on old hardware than full price for an old game funnily enough. To be clear though I have bought a number of the Wii U ports on my Switch.

Splatoon 2 was fully of splatoon 1 stages and weapons so its not classed as a fresh new game and smash bros ultimate was just all of the previous levels and music from other smash games

I wish people would stop buying mario kart 8 deluxe as at this rate they will never make number 9, I've had to go play some mario kart tour just to try some new courses and characters and tbh I want number 9 to have different costumes and character abilities like tour does.

Also how the hell is GTA V not on the switch yet? How is it on ps3, 360, ps4, xbone, ps5, series S/X, epic store and steam but not on any Nintendo consoles? Is this Rockstar's laziness or maybe Nintendo blocking the game?

I love my switch as much as the next person(my massive games list shows that) but I also love my series x and ps5, because I just love playing the best games.
You say the ps5 is a door stop, I wonder what I've been playing the 200 hours I've played on it so far? Sack boy was great fun with my kids, spiderman looked amazing and was a great time, astros playroom really showed how amazing the dual sense is, same with COD and the different trigger pulls for the weapons, borderlands 3 is great at 120fps, and cyberpunk ran brilliantly on it, 67 hours to be correct. Oh and Dirt 5 and Wrc9 both run great and make great use of the dualsense.
You say they should have delayed it? Why? They just had the biggest console launch in history, they can't make them fast enough, same with the series x. And don't forget 87% of ps5 buyers subscribed to psplus giving them 20 of the best games of last gen. Plus 6 great games to play in the last 2 months. I'm struggling to play all my games. And that's not counting the games coming this year I want - GT7, horizon 2, Kena Bridge of spirits, deathloop, ff16, God of War 2, Returnal and of course Ratchet and Clank. And that's just the exclusives, never mind the 3rd party games coming.
Personally I'm very happy both released last year, loving both consoles. Microsoft lineup has been light but gamepass makes up for that. There is room for all 3 systems and I reckon they are all going to do great, it's a brilliant time to be a gamer.

@Serialsid What? No, when the Wii U had its horrible E3 and bad advertising, I criticized Nintendo. I am criticizing Sony and Microsoft because having a lot of cross-gen games isn't a good way to get customers to buy your new system.

Is it a great time to be a gamer? Yes and I never said it wasn't. People get too defensive. I wasn't saying the PS5 will fail, but right now, it has nothing. Zero! They need to get some exclusive games that are only for the PS5 out. I am thinking of the long run.

Having cross green games isn't hurting Sony at all, the demand for their system is mental. There were riots at a store in Japan the other week when they had stock, and the police had to be called. They don't NEED to get customers to buy the system, they can not make them fast enough.
We will have to agree to disagree about the ps5 having nothing, Demon Souls though not my type of game got a 92 on metacritic and is loved by the fans. Spiderman MM is a great game and well worth the money, and though Sackboy is not as good as Odyssey is still a very very good platformer with a great sense of humour. 3 great launch games.
Anyway it's great to see Nintendo doing so well in the UK and the rest of the world, I'm hoping for some big games from them this year to keep the momentum going.

@johnvboy For some, sure. Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing the devices. But neither machine has much to warrant the purchase just yet. Not in terms of exclusive releases. They have some, sure. But many games are still being released on the preceeding machines. Giving many people little reason to upgrade, yet.

It'll come. I have no doubt it'll come, but it's just not there yet.

Well, there are Overcooked All You Can Eat, Planet Coaster, Spirit of the North, Override, etc. I can assure you they are great games for casual gamers, i think you will like them. I will try to buy them on this year. ☺
Also, PS5 is able to play PS4 games so definitely PS5 is something.

Btw, i have both PS4 and Switch, they are two completely different machines that complementing each other.
Nothing wrong to support both Nintendo and Sony because they have different games with different experiences.
