Despite launching back in 2017, players continue to find news tricks, exploits and otherwise fun ways to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It's built up a major community and since the new year alone, we've seen one modder restore an unused shrine, as well as the truly fantastic Bread% speedruns. Now though, a new method has emerged that lets you duplicate special items like Spirit Orbs, which could be a real game-changer.
This particular exploit requires you to have successfully activated the "Memory Storage" glitch, the same tricky method used to keep the Bow of Light outside the final battle. Once you're on a new save file, you'll need to place the travel medallion on Eventide Island, find a shrine you've not yet beaten, get the spirit orb and quit the game.
You'll then need to reload your save file, start the Eventide Island quest and immediately give up. You'll find your spirit orbs are still there, but the shrine you obtained it from will not be marked as completed.
It works on any item obtained via a cutscene, meaning you can also duplicate armour and, thankfully, Korok Seeds too. You can find the full details on how to perform this below, thanks to GamingReinvented:
For those who'd rather read how to do this, a step-by-step guide is also available on their website. Like before, this isn't an easy exploit to pull off, but if you've successfully done it, let us know in the comments.

As where getting closer to BOTW 2 more and more people keep finding new stuff, must be a pain in the ass to patch it, I need to finish this game I havent beaten it yet.
@Snatcher
Why haven't you beaten it yet? It's the best game of the last 10 years.
@Snatcher I'm the same, it's the only zelda game that I haven't bothered to finish.
The story is lacklustre and I found the open world barren and boring once the novelty of messing around with the game physics wore off. It wouldn't have been so bad if you got decent loot but breakable weapons meant most side quest weren't worth the effort.
@Sandro89 I just got other games I needed to finish like okami paper mario enter the gungeon (Finished) risk of rain hades, and so on.
Been playing this with my 6 year old during lockdown and wow, what a game. We've defeated Ganon twice now (once before getting all the memories, once after) and reached 113 shrines completed yesterday.
Comfortably the greatest game I've ever played, and playing with a 6 year old is a delight as he tries things I would never, ever think of. It's a credit to the game design that 99% of the time, if he has an idea, the game will let him do it.
It does feel like hard work early on, but with the divine beast powers, master sword and some nice armor it's great to just explore everywhere, so many details hidden away.
He defated a white lynel on his own yesterday, he was running around the house for joy after!
The Switch is in essence a 'breath of the wild player' to me. Best game on the platform. Nothing else stands close. In a way I wish I hadn't played it at launch because nothing matches the scale and polish and the fact it isn't a simple unity game or Wii u port
@Moistnado correction- it is a Wii u port.
@Moistnado Mario Odyssey is also one of the best games ever
@Moistnado The irony is: it is actually a Wii U port. It was developed for Wii U, it was released on Wii U. Only because it was furthest down the line on Wii U, the remastering part became the part of the development process. The first game on Switch was also a sign of things to come: more remasters of any good Wii U game.
@Snatcher I still couldn't find one shrine so haven't completed it yet either.
I wonder if you can get more than 30 hearts this way.
@Mr-Fuggles777 take your meds, you’ve clearly lost your mind. Lol
@Hrimfaksi the only thing more annoying than Wii u ports is people who bring it up constantly. Nobody owned a Wii u.
I got all the normal shrines and all the DLC shrines but that got me to full stamina and 28 hearts and I couldn't have that so I did a glitch that got me two more hearts haha
@Snatcher They might not need to. Unless there's an Eventide island counterpart in that game, most of these kinds of glitches aren't performable.
@Snakesglowcaps Grrrrr! (As I shed a single tear and firmly hug my Wii U.)
seems tedious to all hell lol
All of these exploits seem like more trouble than they're worth.
@Moistnado Don't get in the habit of talking down Unity games, you'd be surprised at the kind of gold which is made in Unity. Yooka-Laylee, Horace, Descenders, Manifold Garden... And that's just off the top of my head.
@Mr-Fuggles777 I've got to agree with you there. I DID finish the game... But I really don't get all the unanimous praise it gets. I mean - don't get me wrong - it is a good game. I just didn't really think it was a 10 out of 10. I mean, the loading times alone are a bit of a downer on the game... But like you said, the loot to find was made less exciting by the fact that it would break, so I'd end up not even using most of it, saving it for when I really might need it. Anyway, it was a good game but not flawless and 10 out of 10. I tend to wonder if it was not branded a Zelda game if it would have gotten as high of reviews.
@N64-ROX I wrote 'simple unity game'.
@Snakesglowcaps I did. Feels really bad now, that everything that was on Wii U is now on Switch. I do feel like a *****
@Mr-Fuggles777 I always found the breakable weapons as a cheap jab. To me it presents a challenge of not indulging on over reliance on a single strategy. Pick and choose who you want to go down faster whereas expect a duel with everything else or run. If ur a good enough player u don't even care about the durability after a certain point since u can either get more really good weapons or beat ass with anything. It's a great way of improving player skill and preparation instead of a Stat beat down like rpga would have.
@Ocaz I just farmed the major test of strength shrines after a blood moon and hoarded the guardian weapons - however, it felt like a needless chore.
Same with climbing and the stamina system, having to keep running for a few seconds halfway up a cliff because you're running out of stamina just dragged everything out and these little things took the fun out of exploration and combat for me.
@Mr-Fuggles777 I think it was the fact that you are presented with a fair bit of challenge in the game that I was intrigued. The systems that work against you are well thought out and propose a greater bond between game and player than any other game I've experienced. I enjoy the challenges presented in the game because I wanted to overcome everything. And I did 100% the game in its entirety. I've never done that for a game of this scale.
@Ocaz I think I'm on the minority but I found the game held little challenge outside of the manufactured limitations - even Lynel's could just be frozen with ice arrows or Stasis if you were no good at timing a parry and smacked around.
I love open world games, but half the fun is finding loot that is better than what you have that let's you grind more difficult areas for better loot. BotW pretty much gave you everything you need to beat the game at the Plateau and exploration didn't yield anything new or lasting.
I did enjoy the game and have played it on both Wii-U and Switch sinking around 400 hours in between saves and systems - mostly messing about and exploiting the physics, but it ultimately felt empty.
@Mr-Fuggles777 oh well. I really enjoy its barebones approach and it's difficulty. It was an experience for me and I'll never forget it.
@Ocaz agreed, once you get used to it, the high durability items and exapnded inventory really make it an easy thing to deal with.
