Re: Random: Reggie Tells Fans He Would "Never" Time Travel In Animal Crossing

ch37

@PhilKenSebben It's a minor issue but it does disrupt the flow of enjoying the game on social media etc. It's very hard to follow discussions without bumping into images/videos of islands that have clearly had an immense amount of time travel required to progress it well beyond the point that would be physically possible 3/4 weeks into release.

Re: Angry Players Are Starting To Review-Bomb Animal Crossing: New Horizons

ch37

To be fair the completely hidden 'feature' that only the person who starts the game can trigger the vast majority of progress is bonkers and borderline game breaking for some. It relies on the original player sticking with the game long term so the other members of the household can continue to play.

If you're going to force us onto one island in our household, at least let us all contribute.

Like many others I set the game up but it's actually my son who is the regular player. Unless we nuke all of his hard work I have to put in at least as many hours to allow him to progress.

A simple 'switch island rep' feature would make a huge difference.

Unfortunately legitimate concerns such as this are being drowned out by people complaining about the (clearly advertised) fact that it's one island per console.

Just discovered a game breaking mechanic wherby whoever sets the game up has complete control of progress in the game. I set it up but it was always going to be my son that had control of the island on the main Switch.

We've now discovered that unless I put at least as many hours in, he can't trigger any events or progress at all unless we nuke his town and start all over again.

@Zebetite I'm in the UK. Our supermarkets are full of Avengers, Fortnite, Lego (and even Sonic) but no Nintendo, there are no official figures or anything currently available in the UK to my knowledge.

We recently went to Hamleys in London (presumably the biggest toy store in the UK) and apart from a lamp they had absolutely nothing. I don't believe Jakks have a UK distributor.

Considering the success of the Switch and the staggering number of Mario based software sales in the past 3 years I recently discovered that there is basically no Mario merchandise out there. My son is obsessed with the whole world of Mario, yet all we have is a terrible old animated show on Netflix and some incredibly hard to get and price inflated Knex figures on eBay to track down.

I'm literally ready to throw money at Nintendo but can't, instead some scalpers on eBay are making a tidy sum.

I hope the Illumination movie brings with it a raft of associated merchandise and hopefully a Lego licence.

Considering 30% of Switch owners also own a Lite it's a shame there is no way to play the game on the same account across systems, this game feels like it was made for that kinda flexibility.

The Switch Lite is currently for sale at not far off half of the price of the Switch in the UK at the moment so adding one was seriously tempting. The situation with AC was genuinely my reason for not pulling the trigger.

Re: Recovering Your Animal Crossing: New Horizons Save Data From Nintendo Is A One-Time-Only Deal

ch37

@Mallow it's more than just about losing a console...

  • changing to a Ltd Edition model
  • upgrading from V1 to V2
  • changing from Lite to the full Switch

My way in to Switch gaming was the Lite, as it will have been for lots of people over Christmas. After a few months I was enjoying it enough to upgrade to a full Switch.

As it happens we're now just about to buy a Lite to compliment the Switch, particularly as my son has also really got into the Switch now. That becomes unnecessarily complicated when it comes to AC. Nintendo reported themselves that 30% of Lite buyers are now dual Switch/Lite owners.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Games For Kids

My boy is 5 and we've just completed Yoshi's Crafted World in co-op. The last world is surprisingly dark but otherwise it was perfect for us as the mechanics meant that as long as I stayed alive he'd pop straight back in if he fell or took too many hits.

Mario Bros Deluxe is a significant step up in difficulty from the Wii version in our experience and even with Nabbit or Toadette is too frustrating for a 5 year old after the first few worlds.

Re: Talking Point: How Often Do You Make The 'Switch Sacrifice'?

ch37

I find the Switch actually creates time for gaming that simply wasn't there before (and yeah, I'm a father too).

10 minutes on Stardew Valley on the sofa before bed? Sure. There is no way I'm booting up the PS4 10 minutes before bed though.

If that's lazy then that's fine by me, I've even gone the extra mile and switched to full digital so i don't have to mess around with cartridges.

I'm guessing console bundle sales count for MK8, so the full price sales of LM3 is arguably more impressive.

In other news, we tried to buy another Switch in the UK yesterday, there are none left! Game want a £50 deposit to secure one of their next allocation expected in February. Argos, Currys, Tesco, Asda all sold out with no indication as to when new stock might arrive.
