Remember that scrappy little kid in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, who won a podracing tournament against a bunch of weird-looking aliens? Well, that kid ended up accidentally setting off a chain of events that would span nine feature-length movies, countless books and video games, and a whole lot of memes about having the high ground. Who could have guessed!
And now, just to bring the whole thing full-circle, we're about to get a video game retelling of the "Skywalker Saga", the nine-movie plot arc that follows the Skywalker family from Shmi Skywalker all the way down to her great-grandson Ben — and it's told through LEGO.
If you were to build one of our capsule ships in real life, it would take millions and millions of bricks
Due for release on April 5th, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will include the whole story, as well as Yoda voice actor Tom Kane's final performance before his forced retirement. This behind-the-scenes trailer features a ton of insight into how TT Games and Lucasarts/Disney worked together to create a uniquely LEGO retelling of the iconic story, plus new mechanics, real-time voice processing, and the joys of working with LEGO.
There are a few Easter Eggs to find in the game, too — like being able to switch all the weapon sounds to mouth noises. You know the ones. Jzwing. Shoosh. Pew pew. There's even the option to turn on "Mumble Mode", which replaces all the dialogue with its old-school LEGO game equivalent where the characters just... mumble. They didn't have the money for full voice-acting back then!
Of course, the development has not been without its problems. Back in January 2022, some of TT's developers spoke out against a culture of crunch on the game, owing to the difficulty of TT's choice of game engine, multiple delays, and abusive management practices.
Barring any further delays, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will release on April 5th, 2022 on Switch, PC, and consoles.

Wasn’t this game supposed to come in 2019. I love lego games but with how much it has been delayed it needs to drastically improve on the classic lego formula.
I'm super hyped for this game. I'm absolutely turning on mumble mode for that classic Lego experience.
Wonder if there’s going to be online multiplayer!? Looks to be a super fun way to experience all 9 episodes in a row!
@neogyo No online multiplayer, unfortunately. Apparently, they mainly focused on couch co-op for the multiplayer aspect.
This will undoubtedly be the best star wars game on switch! Still need to get Kotor but I'm holding out for the physical version.
This is probably day one if it is all on the cartridge!
That scrappy kid turns out to be one of the most fearsome and famous villains of all in Star Wars and in cinema in general
Kinda I had this now - kinda wish they delay launch 'til 4th May.
@blindsquarel
It does look massive to be fair, and the gunfights and character roster looks like it does a much better job at capturing the spirit of the movies.
@JakedaArbok
I am super exited, and it does look like they will make changes. But trailers can be deceiving so I will wait until reviews come out. I do like the new camera angle though.
Tom Kane's last reprisal as Yoda?? wow...that should be the real story here. He did a great job after Frank Oz....will miss him.
@blindsquarel
I don’t blame you for being wary. This game’s production history and the vagueness of the trailers does make me a bit suspicious, but on the other hand, I’m really hyped, so I don’t know.
This game sounds and looks amazing, if they really deliver it could be one of the best star wars games. My birthday is on April 14th so you can guess what will be my auto present.
Please please please Switch version don't be utterly gimped compared to the PS and XBox versions. It looks like such an ambitious game, and a lot to fit on a cartridge.
I preordered but hopefully won't regret it!
"...and a whole lot of memes about having the high ground." I feel seen.
Can not wait for this game, looks great and the humour is the best.
Definitely changing the weapon sounds to "pew pew!"
Still think they should of waited until the 4 May to release it
Man I hope this game is good on the switch. Also I wonder if this video is a semi response to the negative developer report a month ago.
